A Life of Miracles: What One Ordinary Family Gained When They Gave Up Everything to Follow God

Rate this book
At first, Don Schulze wasn’t sure he was really hearing from God . . . because what he was hearing didn’t make sense. Could God really be calling him to leave a good career and a stable life to take his family on a journey of ministry across the country and around the world? And could Don trust God to take care of his loved ones on that journey? Would they trust and understand God’s call as well?

With a deep breath and a lot of faith, Don and his family took the leap and said yes —stepping forward into what would become a lifelong quest to follow God’s calling. In A Life of Miracles , you’ll travel with this ordinary family across the years as you witness inspiring encounters with God—dramatic rescues, just-in-time provisions, amazing miracles of healing, and God’s surprising answers to “everyday” prayers. As you read, you’ll see evidence of just how closely God sticks by us, even in our most uncomfortable moments.

This modern-day spiritual odyssey takes you on a heartwarming, soul-stirring exploration of faith. Join Don and his family on their unexpected adventures . . . and discover how your own daily walk with God can add up to a life of miracles.

I chose this book based strictly on the cover and the title. A Life of Miracles by Don Schulze looked and sounded good.

I was about to put the book down after the first few chapters. Something about it disgusted me. I'm glad I decided to finish it as there is a message within it, but the book still doesn't sit right for me.

The writing is good. The storyline is compelling and I like how each miracle throughout Don's life is a different chapter. That makes for easy reading.

I couldn't get past the "ask and you shall receive" mentality. Don't get me wrong, I've experienced many miracles in life that most people wouldn't believe or just shake their head and mutter "coincidence" at. I KNOW that God provides for us and have experienced it time and time again.

With that said, several times throughout this book the attitude was "I told God he would need to do it this way or tell my wife the same thing". Told was a reoccurring theme. As was healing - Don only needs to lay his hands upon someone, pray, and they are usually healed. He goes so far to basically say that if your faith is strong enough God will do whatever you pray for. This is the part of the book that disgusted me - he even healed his dog after a car accident by "Sheba, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, put that leg down and walk!" Does anyone else just get a creepy feeling from this? That feeling continued throughout the whole book.

The mentality of God loves me better because I have strong faith is what I took away from the book. It makes me sad, really, because if everything that happened in the book is true it really is a life of miracles but came across as high and mighty and not able to happen to the average person. The message will be lost on most people who had to suffer when God's will doesn't turn out to be their own.

Inspiring Pointer of God’s Hand

Our lives are a con as for God’s brush strokes & Don’s life is proof.

I was deeply challenged by Don’s wife’s submission to follow her husband as God repeatedly directs them to up & go to the next strange & often difficult adventure that is missionary and ministry service.

The book is quite heavy on supernatural healing & that can be a stumbling block to Christians of certain stripes.

If you’re looking for inspiration & hope in how God leads a family in His service while taking care of them, this one will be worth your time.

Life of Miracles by Don Schulze tells the incredible story of the work God has done in and through the Schulze family over the decades. The book starts with Don's life right before he accepted Christ, and it then continues to convey the majority of his ministries over the years and how God has shown up in big ways for him, his family, and his ministries. The miracles that the Schulze family experience are incredible, and it really humbled and challenged me to take a new perspective on how I view prayer, miracles, and the work that God can do. I liked how Gospel oriented Don was both in his book and in his ministry. I also appreciated how each chapter ended with a biblical application related to miracles, faith, and prayer, and then a passage of Scripture that was related to the application and chapter. This book also really challenged me to listen to God and His leading in my life. Oftentimes we pray but we do not stop to listen to what God is telling us in response. Another application I got from reading Life of Miracles is to pray specific prayers and to then trust in faith that God will answer, especially when praying for others. I often will pray very general prayers instead of trusting God to be able to answer the specific ones as well. Overall, I found this book to be a very interesting and certainly convicting read, and I pray that we all live our lives glorifying God and spreading His truth to every nation and people group.

A Life of Miracles starts out by showing God was already working in the life of Don Schulze from an early age. Each chapter covers a specific era of time where God’s direction, influence, and power were experienced in Don’s life. These experiences were not only experienced by Don alone, but other members in the family as well. It also demonstrates the different ways in which God communicates with us. Don has also incorporated scripture into the ending of each chapter meditation, found at the end of all chapters.

I found A Life of Miracles to be exactly what the title claims it to be, a life full of various miracles. Each experience, trial, and victory gave me encouragement in my own faith and ways to pray for God’s direction in my own life. It also shows how we, who believe in Jesus, are all equipped with the same power that has been given to all believers and we do not have to hold a specific title to obtain and utilize this power.

I highly recommend A Life of Miracles for all to read and experience!

All I can say is "Wow". Reading "A Life of Miracles" by Don Schulze is an inspirational, thought-provoking experience. Don tells how he and his wife Leia made a decision to obey God however and wherever He led. By making this commitment they kissed their middle-class existence good-bye and followed God's leading. The result was years of evangelism and church planting in the U.S. and several countries around the world. These were not easy times, but their faith in God remained strong. Through them many people were healed physically and spiritually by God.

Once you starting reading this book you'll find it difficult to put it down. Page after page reveals what faith in God can do. If God is calling you to do something out of your comfort zone this book is a must read. If you are obeying God's call and your faith is wavering this book is for you. "A Life of Miracles" will renew your faith in God and provide encouragement to carry on His work no matter what God has called you to do.

A Life of Miracles is summed up by Don himself, " on our own, our resources were utterly insufficient. yet when we had nowhere else to turn, God always showed up, pouring His power and grace into one desperate situation after another. I can think of no more adventure and faith-building approach to life than to walk in step with Him!" Don and his family are true witnesses to who God is and God love and faithfulness. Don trusted in God to a point that most of us are unable to do. we can all be inspired to walk the walk Don took, to act the way that Don acted and to trust like he did. this book shows you how God works; God never shows you the full picture but asks in faith to take ONE step, and until we take that step and fulfil the 'requirements of that step, then and only then with God tell you the next step to take. and so on and so forth. I thank God that there are people out there that have the faith and convictions that Don and his family have and I thank God for all the great work that they are doing for Him! praise God!

A Life of Miracles by Don Schulze is a book full of inspirational stories from almost every part of the world. The book starts out in Vietnam where the author hears God speak to him. God wanted the author to trust Him that He will take care of him and his family and show his faith by leaving a successful job and his home to serve God by traveling to various parts of the world to make His Name known. Don and his family said yes to God and amazing things begun to happen and they grew closer in their walk with Him. The family got to experience how God provides at the last minute as well as His ability to rescue and heal people in desperate situations. This book was full of stories that will make you laugh or take your breath away because it is full of stories that show us how great God is and what can happen if we really serve Him wholeheartedly.

I received an ARC of this book via the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you

Don Schulze has written an easy to read and enjoyable book outlining everything from how he became a Christian through to seeing God's miracles happen in people's lives.

The book uses real life example of where God's guidance, healing miracles and faithfulness were seen in Don's life and that of those around them. It shares their journey in travelling to different parts of the world, where God had called them to.

A lot of the true tales are backed up by scripture references and it's a very readable book that truly outlines the great things that God can do. Both Christians and non-Christians could gain a lot of positive things from the book.

The title of this book so perfect! Don Schulze has seen miracle after miracle in his life – from the healing of the sick to the arrival of money just as it was needed to even the resurrection of a destroyed electrical appliance. I completely loved this book as he told of God’s faithfulness. And it was done in such a humble way, sharing his difficulties in following at times. Don and his wife Leia follow God from church to church, sometimes wondering why God has lead them to certain places, and from country to country. They have not always been in “safe” places but have trusted God to care for them. What an amazing story!

A Life of Miracles by Jon Schulze is a decent but, but there are parts that have bad theology. Moses never *longed* to shepherd God’s people, but Schulze claims he did. Schulze is open with his life & errors. I read this book hoping for wisdom & clarity in understanding how to follow God, but while this book was interesting (albeit self-centered with bad theology), it didn’t help me in my goal.

I absolutely loved this book! I could hardly put it down as I read about all the miracles this family witnessed and was a part of. I was inspired when they gave up their comfortable life to follow the plan that God had for them. I would highly recommend this book! Awesome read.

Interesting read. Well written. Made me think about my prayer life and level of faith. Quite a life this couple have led.

Pentecostal theology dominates this book and I would not wanna touch that debate with a ten foot pole.

I liked this book. It gave great examples of as family's faith and how it grew. That kind of life isn't for me (yet?) but it made me rethink my own prayers, faith and relationship with God. I really give credit to Leia (his wife), she is quite amazing!

This author who claims to follow God is not what he seems. His entire Twitter feed is filled with hate and asks to see beheadings. Check out @jamesdschulzejr on Twitter. For someone who preaches the word of God, I was appalled to have read this and then discover that he is a hateful person.
