Review
I love action! But I especially love it when there's a balanced, well-built romance at the center! And we get that plus the irresistable fantasy elements of vampires here! Cinematic in scope, I love a good action film/story, especially historical, and this gave me epic style battles (ala Game of Thrones) that kept my pulse pounding!
A vampire and human truce is in place in this medieval style world, but a battle rages on against the Revanents, a brutal peoples more primal, and with a penchant to simply destroy. Our Prince is a high General, a warrior who fights alongside his vampire army, but he also goes against what's expected of his nobility.
Dahlia is a human consort chosen to supply him his bl00d when needed and the forced proximity and the push-pull that develops is piled on thick...slow burn for sure! Their feelings are dangerous to have but also irresistible. There's also wonderful side character comradery! She forms solid bonds to her bodyguards and those in the battle camp that she now lives in. She's ingratiating, kind, and spunky.
Alaric is...everything! He's like a vampire Geralt of Rivia with a bit more lightness. A golden-eyed hulking warrior with a natural grace and power. He just exudes s3x appeal and commands your attention. His restraint of himself to protect her is admirable and endearing. He is honorable, respected and valiant, and the most cherishing and passionate of l0vers to his mate!
I loved that we get battles! There's g0re and there's excitement and there's high stakes! But what I truly commend is that there's an exciting balance of this war torn political agenda alongside the romance drama and it never feels like the timing of the romance is forced to appease an audience. It's a slow burn and natural. It's earned!
Absolutely loved this surprise of a read I came across. A world tinged with fantasy but grounded in reality, epic in scope and centered with a magnetic couple!

VOWS FORGED IN BLOOD was such a fun read and I'm a sucker for vampire romance so this was right up my alley. I loved the world that K.D. Miller created, the alliance between the vampires and humans, the war against the Revenants, and the way both Alaric and Dahlia were so reluctant to lean on each other. The pace was slower and this was definitely a slow burn but the tension was immaculate the whole way through.
Dahlia was fierce and determined and even when her whole world got thrown upside down she kept on fighting. I liked her journey throughout the book as she gained a deeper confidence in herself and built not just her relationship with Alaric but multiple friendships in the war camp. She was sweet and kind without being a doormat and I just really enjoyed her character. Her quiet beauty captured Alaric's attention right away but he also came to appreciate her fire and compassion. Alaric was on the grumpier side but he was fiercely loyal to his soldiers, a badass fighter with a fearsome reputation, and surprisingly soft with Dahlia.
Their romance was a delicious slow burn that they both tried to resist but couldn't. Only Alaric knows they're fated mates which leads to some confusing moments for Dahlia as she felt strangely pulled toward Alaric. When they finally give into their feelings it was explosive and sexy and so worth the wait. I'll give a quick warning that there was a little bit of other man drama when Dahlia was considering starting something up with an old flame but it's always clear that Dahlia will end up with Alaric and nothing really happened with her ex.
I can't recommend this enough for anyone who loves vampires and is looking for an engaging and emotional fantasy romance. Also, it was nice to have a standalone that fully concluded the story, though I wouldn't mind getting a story for Nova or Wesley.

While I didn't exactly love this book, I was still interested enough in the characters and their journeys to keep reading until the end, so I guess it's a win. Read it if you love fated mates and vampire shenanigans.

Wow , just wow!
I am honestly lost for words! I enjoyed this book so much ! I thrived for the intensity ; the battles, the strong desire , the denial , the tension, the push and pull .. and you guessed it , the intense plot and mystery! I was gripped! This book was on my mind every day I could think wait to jump back into the pages!
This book was packed with raw passion, need , fire and danger, those emotions seeped through the pages . The author made me FEEL EVERYTHING!! The anticipation made my heart stop, the slow burn was SLOWWWWW! I LOVED IT! The dual POV really created more sexual tension between Alaric and Dahlia, it really pushed the boundaries on the forbidden romance. This also showed their vulnerability, especially Alaric! His restraint in fighting natural instinct in order to protect Dahlia was strength I couldn’t imagine for his kind . The pacing was everything, their story flowed naturally, and each page was full of descriptive scenes and emotions.
This book was graphic and gory with scenes of death. I was in my element . I am so glad I found this author ! This was a unique twist to a vampire romance , and it was executed brilliantly!
I liked the side characters too , they were so lovable , especially Elias !

I really enjoyed this book; it had suspense, spice, and well written characters. I found the world building easy to follow and get into. I didn’t feel like I was wildly confused for the first few chapters, which is so common when picking up a new book in the fantasy genre. I also love a good dual POV book and this certainly delivers in that respect. It left me wanting more adventures from these characters and dying to know how a certain side romance plays out!

That was genuinely so much fun! An excellent stand alone romantasy novel!!
While it may seem that this will be insta love it’s really not the first full 3/4 of the book is yearning, amazing heart wrenching yearning but if you want the spice (and you do!) you will be working for it!
While the overall story line was predictable and as was the major character plot point for the traitor it didn’t diminish how much I enjoyed the story and experiencing dual the POVs from the FMC and MMC
The writing of the angst and the tension between Alaric and Dahlia our MMC and FMC is perfection! The forced proximity trope is chefs kiss alongside a cast of fun, deep and meaningful side characters!
If you are in a reading slump this is the standalone novel to get you out of it!!

I must say I absolutely loved this book from the first page all the way to the last. I can't wait to see if there will be a second book cause I cannot get enough of the characters.

First time reading a romantasy standalone and I’m OBSESSSED . Sad it’s over so quickly and kind of predictable at times, but still good nonetheless! Especially helped with book hangover without too much commitment and smut was 🥹🥹🥹🥹

This was prob a 4.5 ⭐️ I usually struggle with standalone fantasy books but this was great! I loved the yearning & found myself smiling at Alarics inner monologue. This was fun & was super easy to read. I was hooked from page one.

3.5 stars. A good read but some things didn't work for me. Read if you love fated mates, some spice and a fantasy setting.
PLOT: Dahlia the human is chosen as vampire prince and warlord Alaric's blood consort, an honor she never expected to have. Bundled off to his war camp she meets old friends, finds her place and they begin a love affair.
SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW!!! You've been warned!
PROS:
- the world was pretty well fleshed out and enjoyable. You get a sense for the politics and wars.
- The independent characters were interesting and I was genuinely rooting for some of them! Dahlias handmaiden and her friends in the camp were hard not to root for.
- Alaric was a good tortured male lead and you really got a feel for his struggle of trying to do what he thought was right and giving in to his instincts.
- the smut was pretty good. It's a bit slow burn at times but pretty fun.
CONS:
- Some parts really dragged on and after a while I just had to force myself to keep reading through them to get to what I actually wanted to know.
- I found some parts confusing. For example Dahlia is scared and nervous the first time she meets Alaric but like right after that she's all fiery and edgy with almost no time between the meeting. Also, it seems like this world has modesty standards for women so her dress is "scandalous" because it's form fitting and shows her chest.... Then right after that she walks around in leather pants and a vest but no one is fased by that at all? It sounds like consorts are spoiled and cosseted rich girls, but she's besties with her handmaiden and all the males right away and drinks with them? That seemed a bit odd to me (yes I know she was a commoner until recently but still)
- Daliah kind of annoyed me. At first I really thought her character was good, she's spunky unladylike and brash but it really wears on you after a while. Also... Half way through she stops feeling like a character and more like a Mary Sue. She's good at everything, naturally beautiful, graceful, smart, funny, attractive, designs weapons and then she has the power to save lives, the whole world and also end a war single handedly??? It just started getting really outlandish IMO.
- while I love dual POVs sometimes it felt like we kept getting the same info over and over again. Like I GET it Alaric you don't want to give in or hurt her, I got it buddy! Work through it!
- I get it they're in love but it just felt so sudden. Like we literally go from Daliah trying to hook up with her friend to "Alaric's the love of my life" for both of them. It kind of felt like Alaric was more into her because of the mate bond and not like they had a lot in common / bonded
- when she gets hurt the first time I thought it was weird that the warrior she tried to save doesn't even say thanks and no one really acknowledges the fact she tried to help? Like yes she got hurt so that overshadowed it but it's never addressed again.
- I felt like the book really needed to get more smut in sooner. Like it was blueballing hardcore. They barely even kiss for 12 chapters and then anytime something is going to happen there's an interruption or self made problem up until almost the end.
- I wasn't crazy about the ending and it felt too rushed to me. Like she just happened to remember she had a tool on her that could do XYZ (but literally never mentioned throughout aside from when it was given to her). Then everyone just agrees with her, the rebels are cleared out and it's all over.... Like hundreds of years of war and everyone was all "it's good now u saved us"!? No one was angry or resistant. Also during the scene where she's injured.... It sounds like the big bad tried to rip her innards out.. but homegirl stands there directing and putting a peace treaty in place before landing a crazy blow on another enemy and then it's over? Really? That's all it took?
- the whole thing with her sister and his friend annoyed me a bit. The whole part in the beginning sets her sister up as really timid and meek and sheltered, yet boom she's randomly the firebrand who steals horses and sneaks off to war (with no skills or plan mind you) and she's also totally cool with her new bf sleeping around in the past and facing off against monsters (which it sounds like she's never seen before if we're going by the beginning of the book)... It just felt meh to me.

- when she gets hurt the first time I thought it was weird that the warrior she tried to save doesn't even say thanks and no one really acknowledges the fact she tried to help? Like yes she got hurt so that overshadowed it but it's never addressed again.
- I felt like the book really needed to get more smut in sooner. Like it was blueballing hardcore. They barely even kiss for 12 chapters and then anytime something is going to happen there's an interruption or self made problem up until almost the end.
- I wasn't crazy about the ending and it felt too rushed to me. Like she just happened to remember she had a tool on her that could do XYZ (but literally never mentioned throughout aside from when it was given to her). Then everyone just agrees with her, the rebels are cleared out and it's all over.... Like hundreds of years of war and everyone was all "it's good now u saved us"!? No one was angry or resistant. Also during the scene where she's injured.... It sounds like the big bad tried to rip her innards out.. but homegirl stands there directing and putting a peace treaty in place before landing a crazy blow on another enemy and then it's over? Really? That's all it took?
- the whole thing with her sister and his friend annoyed me a bit. The whole part in the beginning sets her sister up as really timid and meek and sheltered, yet boom she's randomly the firebrand who steals horses and sneaks off to war (with no skills or plan mind you) and she's also totally cool with her new bf sleeping around in the past and facing off against monsters (which it sounds like she's never seen before if we're going by the beginning of the book)... It just felt meh to me.

Fated Mates? Vampires? Immediate yes from me.
I loved this sweet story and it felt like the perfect palate cleanser between big series. I was here for the romance, THE MATES, but I enjoyed the plot. It was predictable but that didn't stop me from eating this story up. This author delivered great spicy scenes on top of the romance too? 😘 I'll be watching for her next book.

I haven’t read a proper vampire book in a while, even though I usually love this trope… so I was honestly excited going in.
Phase 1: Strong start… but wow, the inner monologue.
It started off good, but the beginning was A LOT of internal thinking. At some point I was literally like, “Guys… please stop talking to yourself and just have a conversation with someone.” 😂 On top of that, it’s very descriptive — the kind of paragraphs where you can tell the author is painting a scene, but I was skimming because it was just too much detail for me.
Phase 2: Then it clicks — and I was a happy camper.
Once the story gets moving, I actually really started enjoying it. The tension is there, there’s some action, and it scratches that vampire-itch properly. This is the part where I stopped fighting the book and started having fun.
Phase 3: The ending… yeah. 🤦🏻♀️
Unfortunately the ending pulled me right back out. It felt super unrealistic and just too much — like it went for maximum drama instead of something that felt grounded in the story.
Overall: I’m glad I pushed through because the middle was genuinely enjoyable, but the heavy inner monologue + intense descriptiveness upfront, and then that ending, kept it from being a full win for me.

The book sinks its “teeth” into you from the first page. I could not put it down, I started on a Friday and finished on Saturday night. It reminded me when I was reading ACOTAR.
It starts with the 247th Choosing. Alaric, The Prince and Warlord of the Vampire Montclare Clan, chooses a Consort. This is a human live blood donor. The Choosing is used to honor the Blood Peace between vampires and humans. The reluctant Alaric chooses equally reluctant Dahlia, a daughter of a famous blacksmith recently turned noble. Alaric soon finds out that his Consort gives him something new to fight for but also potentially lose.
This is a slow burn with fated mates. Once the spice starts it is smoking. 🔥🔥🌶️🌶️. There is a good balance of spice and plot and the spice does not overshadow the plot. The side characters of well developed and bring a lot to the story. The banter is good. There is a great awkward scene between Dahlia and Wesley that was my favorite. The battle/fight scenes were detailed and exciting. I wish there was a bit more fighting/battle scenes. I am a bit more of an epic fantasy reader so I like a lot of battles and politics but this book gives enough. The twist was somewhat expected, I was hoping it was going to be a bigger surprise. Alaric and Dahlia are very kind and care about their people. It makes you fall in love with them as they fall in love with each other. Alaric gives Cassian vibes from ACOTAR and you get a “hold the headboard” scene 🥵🔥. I hope there is more to this series but the ending does sum everything up nicely so it could be a great stand alone. Again I hope maybe it is like ACOTAR and you get another couple’s story. 🤞❤️

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.
I didn’t like it. This book was not my cup of tea. Maybe I’ve gotten used to the Twilight version of vampires but I just couldn’t get over the vampires having claws and Alaric ripping his off to go to town on Dahlia 🙄 and the vampires crying pink or red tinged tears.
I understand I read an ARC but there were still a lot of grammatical errors throughout the book that I hope the author fixes before actually publishing the book.
A lot was repetitive throughout the book that just really annoyed me. Dahlia and Ennis kept writing back and forth for months complaining about their bedrooms being too large and quiet without each other there - we got it the first time but no the letters continued. Alaric already understood the implications of a mate being a human and then he asked his brother and the same information was just reiterated.
The book was overly predictable. The Highspear situation was easily predictable as well as the ring. She kept mentioning the ring and how there was just something so special about it. Highspear obviously had issues and everyone was just overlooking it.
It takes almost 300 pages for the characters to become intimate and then that feels like all the rest of the book is just s3x scenes. They were bleh so I just skipped them. Some phrases just grossed me out. Alaric “spread her honey” 🤮 and this whole sentence “I press her knees farther apart and press the head against her hole.”
Overall, I read the book and finished it to see what happened. It took me forever to get through this book. The ideas were there I think the book could have been executed better. It just was not my cup of tea, if it’s something you’re into - enjoy.

Dahlia is a badass. I want to be like Dahlia when I grow up. And Alaric? *swoon*
This book was the perfect combination of action and spice. The buildup was so good. I was kicking my heels and giggling like a child and I have no shame in that. Neither of them really want to be where they are, but resistance is futile.
Favorite quote?
"You're playing with fire, Dahlia."
"Then let me burn, Alaric."
I would gladly burn for him as well.

I really wanted to love this book. I loved the characters. The writing style was nothing to write home about, but it was decent. The world building was good, and I was able to imagine everything the author described as I read. The plot wasn't bad either.
So now the not so good stuff. The timing of key events within the story seemed off. I really think if the author had not spent so much time with the FMC and MMC fighting the mate bond, it would have been better. It went on too long and was repetitive, so about 60%, I got bored and started skimming. The key villain was not in a scene until the very end. The traitor was very predictable. In fact, everything was really predictable. From the attack to the kidnapping to the end.
So the whole reason the Revenants were fighting seemed kind of silly. Two hundred years' worth of fighting for peace kind of seems ironic.

This was super easy and fun to read! The only reason I took off a star is because it was predictable but I kinda enjoyed that??
The spice was phewwwww! It was definitely a slow burn tho! World building was nothing complicated but interesting all the same.

I liked the FMC but the plot was predictable and followed the typical Romantasy formula. It was well written but not very memorable due to it feeling the same as other books within the genre.
