An Offworlder With A Divine Class. A Murderous King Who Wants Him Dead. Can He Level Up Fast Enough To Stop An Entire Kingdom’s Destruction?

Kazro never asked for the quest. With nothing but a broken interface and dogged determination, he sets out to deliver a ceremonial scythe to a princess he’s never met. But when he glimpses her in the crowd, a jolt of familiarity strikes like thunder. Before he can uncover the truth, chaos erupts—the King of the Sundust Reaches storms the city, smacks Kazro aside, and abducts the royal family for a mass sacrifice.

Desperation drives Kazro to wield the ceremonial scythe and in so doing, he unlocks a startling secret. A trapped god awakens, bestowing him with the divine class of Transcendent. But as the Mad King flees and an assassin closes in, Kazro feels the crushing weight of his newfound power. Every second demands he fight or face a swift and brutal death.

As the kingdom faces its darkest hour, will Kazro rise to conquer the Mad King—or fall to the forces seeking his complete and utter annihilation?

If you like weak-to-strong protagonists, heroes who are underleveled but overpowered, fast-paced level-ups, rare classes, and gods worth defying, then you’ll love Hatch’s immersive isekai fantasy LitRPG adventure.

needless use of a slur for an otherwise interesting book

It honestly pains me to say this kinda stuff. I was looking forward whole heartedly for this book I feel in love with the cover and blurb soon as the author released one. The powers leveling system is cool the Mc power is fun and different. It had a real “power of friendship” vibe going on. But out of no where one of the mc’s just yells a slur starting with f, used against the lgbtq community, to distract or intimidate the bbeg. I know some of yall may think it’s lame that I let “just a word” ruin my experience with this book but I feel how I feel and it truly left a black mark on an otherwise fun read. I give all books that baselessly and irresponsibly use slurs a 1 star. I bumped it to two because it really was a fun read.

I couldn't get past the horrible setup. A main character so heavily traumatized that he is a danger to himself and others is meant to jump into a nationwide conflict? The overly flowery writing does little to help the very forced action. I quit about fifteen percent in.

The first entry of DDR Hatch’s The Legend of Kazro LitRPG series opens with Wyatt being killed by a hideous attacker. The main chapters start with namesake protagonist Kazro Byrehl looking forward to the Festival of Peace, remembering his horrible real-life father. Kazro gets a new quest to deliver peace offerings, including a ceremonial scythe, and goes through woods, thinking of his deceased earth mother, and saving a fox after fighting birds. He reaches Gaian City, purchasing a badge from a plumed Skyborn merchant, and sees a royal procession featuring Princess Ariana, who looks familiar to him, with a voice telling him to follow her.

Kazro enters the royal palace, meeting King Terran III and Lord Kal’marath, leader of the desert tribe, giving gifts of dark energy, and Kazro wanting to keep the ceremonial scythe. He has conflicting thoughts about getting away, with a golem wreaking havoc, and Kazro remembering his father Tim and the bully Carson, keeping the scythe and getting away. In a flashback, he remembers his dad raging at his mother for attending college, with his earth form, Wyatt, hiding in the closet, Kaya, maybe his sister, screaming, and their father being an abusive douche. Back in the game, Kazro is in limbo, looking at his stats and finding that he’s achieved the Transcendent class, wondering what happened to Ariana.

Archimedes surveys the destruction of Gaian City and glimpses Kazro, who finds that the scythe has a symbol of Gaian royalty, communicating with him, and revealing his name to be Gaia. Kazro gets a new quest to rescue Ariana, and in the meantime, Kal’marath rides and sees Sa’Khari, god-cursed people, having a talking blade, Vlindakh, his right-hand man Zerek by his side, hopeful he will become kingdom sovereign. Kazro and Gaia ride on, with his arcane fox bonding with him and his Transcendent skills awakening, Pip the wisp leading on. Kazro has a flashback remembering Child Protective Services spiriting him and his sister away and meeting Jessica in a bullying incident.

Gaia senses something off, Kazro meeting a man who wants him dead and being disadvantaged. Kazro remembers Ariana, trains, fights lizards, and gets a sidequest to help a pillaged village, wanting to save the princess. The fox continues to bond with Kazro, who wants to save the villagers, finding Kal’marath, fighting him and getting burnout. He has another flashback, studying with Jessica, with pizza-faced and redheaded bullies running everything, along with nightmares of his parents fighting. Jessica still waits for Wyatt, and eventually gets in-game. Kal’marath eventually heads for the Tomb of the Desert God.

Kazro buys an enchanted cloak from a shop, fusing his Sunstone with his Canteen, not knowing why he’s drawn to Ariana. The princess herself is entrapped in an organic prison, with Zerek wanting Kazro dead, the hero arriving at Sundust Reaches and carefully treading. Two moons align, along with the coming of a terrible monster, Kazro getting the Beast Slayer quest. He reaches a sanctum with sandworms, practicing his slingshot, and watches Scarlet, his fox, grow, continuing to train, but becoming exhausted. He defeats the monster terrorising the Yja-ba tribe, with the elder saying he needs to seek Kin Kada, a defector. In another flashback, Jessica visits Wyatt and he tells her about Carson being a bully.

Kazro tells Archimedes of his wounds, bonding with him and receiving Shade Tokens, a currency, during which the Shadowstone works its magic. Meanwhile, Ariana is still in a worm’s innards, her brother Zyn undoing her bonds. More flashbacks come with Jessica drinking alcohol in front of Carson. Kazro reaches Kal’marath and demands Jessica’s rescue. Another flashback comes where Carson plots evil things against Jessica, who gets loose with alcohol, with Carson dragging her away and Wyatt fighting him. Kazro ultimately meets the queen, with a celebration occurring, during which Kal’marath seeks a sword and finds a mummy.

Overall, I found this a good start to The Legend of Kazro, with the short chapters making it digestible and easy to break from, along with the clarity of what’s happening, and tons of RPG elements like displaying lists of stats, quests, gained experience, and leveling, which really sparked my fancy as a gamer and reviewer mainly of roleplaying games. I can also relate to having an abusive family, albeit far more emotionally than physically, with great parallels between the game and real world. I did have issues with the weird onomatopoeia like “lub dub” and “pulse pulse pulse,” but otherwise, I enjoyed this unique twist on the fantasy genre.

What Kills You Makes You Stronger

Wyatt was being choked. His attacker was unrelenting. The world was slowly going to a pinprick as his lack of oxygen was almost complete. He heard his friend screaming as to why they would do this to him. But Wyatt also knew that she was next. Wyatt’s mind was telling him that he failed, he always failed. And then everything went black.

Wyatt later awoke in another world, another body. He was now a teenager known as Kazro and was an apprentice to his father, the royal blacksmith. When Kazro remembered things from his previous life he zoned out and his family thought he was always daydreaming. His dad was going to deliver the ceremonial weapons to the royal family and Kazro was going with him, whether he wanted to or not. He didn’t, he just wanted to be left alone. His memories tortured him about his failure with his friend, how his father beat him and abused him as well as his killer laughing at him.

As they were making the finishing touches to the ceremonial scythe, Kazro was swept away again. This led to his dad having the hammer smash his foot. Broken bones and blood. He rushed to get a med kit. He helped his father as best he could. Kazro thought he would be beaten to an inch of his life like his first father had, but no his father just showed him kindness with his pain beneath it. His father told him, he would now have to deliver the ceremonial weapons by himself. He had Kazro get the maps and load the cart. He tried to argue with his father but it was no use. If he didn’t deliver them, they wouldn’t be available for the ceremony. Kazro psyched himself up for the journey and headed out, but things were not quite what they seemed. So it begins….

A Protagonist We Didn't Know We Needed

What can I say about the Legend of Kazro? The writing is engaging, the setting is interesting, and the main character has a surprising amount of depth (this is my first D. R. R. Hatch book, but it won't be the last).

Kazro/Wyatt has been through a lot and it shows in how he reacts to the world. Minor spoilers, but he has to fight through some super nasty trauma to even get out of bed, let alone try and save the kingdom he now calls home. He's an example of how most of us should hope to react to getting Isekaied in a violent fashion, seeing as that kind of thing leaves a mark.

The supporting cast was alright, but Gaia and Wisp stole the show for me. I love both of them and can't wait to read more about them in the future.

All in all, this book checks all the boxes for a series I'll be following moving forward.

Good job, Hatch! I'm looking forward to the next one.

Great read

I thought I'd give this book a try after seeing the blurb on a FB group I'm part of. I found it a good twist to the usual reincarnation isekai books, the MC is weak to strong mentally unstable hero trying to be better while feeling like he's not good enough. MC and his companions set out on a mission to not just save the princess but the rest of her family and the kingdom.

Really enjoyed the MC using a scythe as his main weapon, this means there's a good bit of not only character development but background about the MC and his friend, while also having a good bit of action.

My only real complaint is that Gaia is written as a man so it causes a bit of a mental stutter when your expecting Gaia to be referred to as a woman.

Looking forward to book two,. Keep up the good work.

Well, this one won't appeal to everyone for sure. The story is ok, but it's missing that certain something that makes so many LitRPG stories such a joy to read. I don't know if I'll read more in this series or not, but I don't think so. This one just didn't appeal to me all that much.I think this one tries too hard to be all things to all readers, and as a result, it suffers greatly. If you're up for a couple of reincarnated high schoolers finding their way in a world neither one of them knows anything about despite their being well established individuals in the world, then this one might appeal to you.

This is a sorta revenge story wrapped around a LitRPG. Our main character is working in a forge when we first meet him but this isnt his life in truth, but just the one he woke up. He has nightmares of his "true" life and dispare follows those nightmares. He undertakes a task for his "adoptive" father and along the way it turns into the adventure of his life or death maybe.
Will he grow strong enough, fast enough, can he bridge the gap, can he fast his "past" and what haunts his dreams?
But who that girl? Why does girl look so familiar and what are these feelings?
All questions that need answering. Hang on for a ride with loveable and despisable characters a plenty.

This was definitely one of the best books I have ever read. There are parts that is is a bit hard to get through, but that is mainly because the MC is one one the most wonderfully broken characters I have ever come across. Without giving too much, or really anything, away. The MC being so broken actually makes him a better, more well rounded character.

If you like stories that are very character driven, you will like this one. Stop what you are doing and pick this book up. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Highly recommended.

A new LitRPG read

This story is very interesting because it deal with a reborn MC, and they have a very unique class. Karl can use the XP that he has earned through battles and quests to empower weapons and armor, rather than leveling up in a traditional way. The plot is fairly straightforward, although the character development never makes it seem standard. With the end of the first book, I wonder what direction the story is going to go from here. I recommend it.

Enjoyable new entry

This was an enjoyable new addition to the genre. I enjoyed what the author conveyed with the brokenness of the MC at the start. It offered an interesting aspect of some previous traumas continuing through the isekai.
System was enjoyable, pacing had very few hiccups for me. I cannot recall the exact moments but I remember only once or twice when I got impatient.
Overall an excellent addition and well worth the read

I purchased this on kindle, and it's a definite must read for any LitRPG fans.
Great world building, great character and a decent MC.
The story itself has a good pace, with plenty to keep you engaged without over doing it.

If you looking for you next series, I highly recommend giving this one ago.

Strong characters, Action that'll keep up waaay past your bed time, and a plot that keeps you hooked. I honestly binge read it because I couldn't put it down.
Now I have to wait for May to get the next book.

A good start to a series with a very broken protagonist, both in the gaming sense and the emotional sense. My guy should be in therapy but hey, getting isekai-ed is much better. Looking forward to further work!

What I find the most interesting is the magic system that is quite unique. Also the characters are very well designed and there is very easy to like the MC, even though he have had a very traumatic background. Even the "sidekicks" is very well fleshed out and very likable.

Whiny

Another whiny book their is enough whining in the world so why would I want to read about it. The main character had years and years to get over it but still did not no therapy or drugs in the new world

Not for me.

DNF at 14%

An utterly untrained protagonist who is that traumatised that he is barely functional makes a very unbelievable action hero who is supposed to outmatch several trained warriors from the get go.. a true male mary sue..

great book

The only thing I didn’t like was how as we approached the final battle every chapter ending attempt to have a “deep profound finality vibe” besides that? Great book, ready for book 2

Great read

Vivid depictions of all the action with clearly detailed scenes. Loved the fast pace of growth for the main character and how natural the growth seemed to be within the story.

Not bad

Interesting storyline. The characters were almost too well thought out. Loved the intelligent weapon and it just got better the farther the story went along

mC is pathetic

I made it 25% of the way through. The MC is just too pathetic and lacks any type of in pulse control. He spends all of his time in his head reliving the past.

I was given an advanced copy of this work by the author. Trigger warning for sensitive readers, there are depictions of domestic abuse and bullying in the MC's past. The MC spends much of the book coping and working on the trauma caused by this. This coping makes for an interesting read in a genre where this stage of development is often glossed over. Further trigger warning for use of the f-slur, which for me detracted from the book as the use added nothing to the work and could be substituted with something else.
The mechanics developed in the story are also refreshing and fresh. Not only is the leveling different than many in the genre but there is an item augmentation mechanic that is very interesting to read and follow within the story.
The world building within the story, core to the above mentioned mechanics, is well done and keeps the reader hooked as it unfurls as you progress through the story, learning more as the MC does. It helps the reader connect with the MC as you grow with him and understand as he does.
The side characters are well developed, augmenting the story with their perspectives and growth as they act as counter points to the MC or add to his growth and strength as a whole. They brighten otherwise very heavy and dark scenes or help the MC process through the traumas he has experienced.

Its not for me. DNF

For me, the MC wasn't weak, but pitiful. His origin and actions were too traumatic up for me to belief that he was going to become brave enough to get strong. I like a come back story, but at 15% I found myself thinking that there was going to be an awful lot of dues ex needed to get the MC where he needed to be, especially in his head. I may be moving on to soon, but I just couldn't continue.
