The stakes have never been higher. A simple partnership between two rivals. An unlikely match ready for the long-run.
Cara Collins is one of the best contract spies in the world. The only problem? So is her dad’s best friend and arch nemesis, Grant Sinclair. When the Director of the Agency reaches out to them about catching the most elusive, wanted criminal out there, they have no choice but to team up.
This unlikely duo must infiltrate the Carolinas mafia in order to dismantle the entire ring. With tension running high and time running out, they have to find their way to the inside as a suburban married couple with seedy pasts.
With no choice but to trust one another, Cara and Grant discover that not everything is what it seems with the other… but maybe that’s a good thing.
3.75 ⭐️s rounded up! This book was a fun and entertaining read. It was short and easy to sit down and binge read! Going in I did not know this was a series but I do believe you can read them all separately as well!
Things to Expect ♠️Rivals to Lovers ♠️Age Gap ♠️Dads best friend ♠️Fake Marriage
Our Main characters, Cara and Grant, have known each other for a while because Grant is her dad’s best friend! However after fighting over the same jobs, as spies, they quickly have become rivals. When an exclusive job comes up to catch a very well known mafia member, Cara is fighting for the opportunity. This job is the one she has been waiting for and nothing and nobody will stop her. However, when she goes to the office of her boss she finds out that in order for to have this job she has to have a partner. That partner is none other than her rival Grant. With lives on the line and tension at an all time high, we follow these characters as they go along on this journey!
My only issue with this book is that I felt some aspects were surface level. Certain things were not talked about in depth so I felt there was some holes in the story but overall it was a fun and entertaining read.
Cara and Grant are rivals in the spy game. They get hired to infiltrate, gain information and take down enemies. They are often competing for the same jobs and that has led to fantastic tension and a grudging respect for one another. Grant also happens to be Cara's dad's Best Friend! However, even though this is an age gap, Grant is 49 and Cara is in her mid-thirties. So this is also a relatively mature romance.
I feel like mature is actually a great way to describe them because even though they are rivals, when they need to work together, they do get along for the actual job. Cara may want to undermine Grant in other ways, but she won't mess up their chances to take down the notorious Marlin, a criminal mastermind.
Using some of Grant's previous connections and a quick marriage (only for a convincing cover, of course!), they promise to work together and have one another's backs. But once they are undercover AND no longer picking at one another... all their resistance quickly fades. Their true feelings come out and it leads to a beautiful unity and a sexy time on the job.
I had a good time with this story and if you like some Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes mixed with a surprisingly tender and sweet romance, I think you will have a good time. I think a lot of their relationship was a bit rushed, due to them knowing one another for so long before we entered their story. This was also one of the least taboo examples of a Dad's Best Friend. So take that for what you will!
*M/F *Contemporary *Dual-1st-PoV *Organised Crime *Undercover Ops *Dad’s best friend *Rivals to Lovers *Slower Burn *Standalone *Interconnected series Solid read. This was a solid read, the characters were interesting and there was definitely a spice and chemistry between them! It was different having the FMC as a boss of her own security firm and the power that brings her, it wasn’t wholly clear what the MMCs role actually is whether he has his own company, is a freelancer or its more of a hobby 😳 I didn’t expect the main baddie to be who it actually was so kudos to the author on managing to throw red herrings around about that! The steamy scenes were interpreted well in the latter third throughout the ‘action’. It just didn’t wow me enough to stand out from other similar reads (sorry!) overall it was alright.
This book was packed full of tension, chemistry, slow burn, and slightly suspenseful goodness! Cara and Grant were such a great couple to read. They had a forbidden, age gap romance that had me hanging on to every word and did not disappoint. You get spice, secret missions, plot twists, secret identities- it is an attention grabbing and anchoring story that you can’t get enough of. I had my suspicions about a few characters- some of which were right. And there were a few twists I didn’t see coming! Angel Anders does the age gap, forbidden romance trope well! This one she adds along with it spy and mafia dealings, marriage of convenience, rivals to lovers, he falls first and dad’s best friend. I can’t wait to see what she brings us next in Liam’s story!
Tell Me All Your Lies delivers an entertaining blend of tension, chemistry and forced proximity that had me hooked. Grant? Yeah… he’s that man. An age gap I can fully get behind. The marriage of convenience trope always gets me and this one was no exception.
While it was pitched as enemies to lovers, I wouldn’t say that fully landed… unless I missed something (this is book four in the series, so maybe that dynamic developed earlier). What I did get was angsty tension, solid banter, and a partnership that kept me flipping pages.
Ohhhh and the scene with Fred? 🔥🔥 SHEW. That one alone earned the rating bump.
This was my first read from Angel Anders but it won’t be my last. I’m definitely eyeing the earlier books in this series now.
Tropes: Fake marriage Age gap Dad’s Best Friend Rivals to lovers
This had me hooked beginning to end!! I loved Cara and Grant, both characters were well thought out! I loved the whole spy aspect as I don’t think I’ve read very many about the MCs being spies!
There definitely could have been a bit more depth added to the whole agency thing, and maybe a bit more depth to the Mafia as well, but it’s enough to get the story going!
No third act break up to be found and the characters act their ages definitely a plus that needs to be pointed out!
The spice didn’t start til maybe half way or more but my goodness it was something else 😳 that one scene took me by surprise cause surely they wouldn’t!? But oh they did and i wasn’t expecting that!
Definitely recommend! It was good quick read and I really enjoyed it! (read it in one day!)
This is my second book by Angel and it was everything I wanted in a book, spice and mystery. There were so many twists and turns it was always crazy, but the relationship with Cara and Grant was solid and spicy! I loved their relationship and trying to piece together all of their secrets with them. I do want to read the first part of the series to get more knowledge about everyone, but as a book it was amazing. My only fear was that it wasn't going to wrap up, but I was proven wrong as I dislike cliffhangers in uncompleted series.
I am honored to have recieved this arc first a foremost. It hasn't been my absolute favorite, but it was still a decent read. The plot and story were great, it was just slower for my taste and the progression wasn't quite what I expected. The story itself was slow but the romance happened fast. Aside from that I did adore the characters. Cara was a prefect example of a strong FMC that can handle her own. Grant was a bit of an unexpected sweetie. He's ruthless and soft for her.
Would I recommend this? Maybe. Did I enjoyed it? Yes.
Such an interesting read! Because this book kicks off instantly and I don’t want to spoil even a moment I will only say this…if you’re looking for something a book that is filled with twists and turns, rival spies who are forced to work together, a forced proximity slow burn romance, with plenty of spice, filled with banter, amazing characters, a fast paced ending and a happily ever after than Tell Me All Your Lies is a must for any and all TBRs!
I flew though this book. I have not read the previous books in this series (yet) but I was able to jump right in Grant and Cara's story. This was a face pace, spy/mafia romance and it is a slow burn but when it starts to heat up, boy does it heat up!
Thank you Angel Anders and Grey Promotions for the eARC. I am so excited to read the other books in the series and for the next one that will be coming out!
Arc review- I have not read the previous books in the series but I don’t think that is completely necessarily to understand the story, but I will be going back to read the previous 3 books! Grant and Cara’s undercover, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, fake “dating” is a whole bunch of goodness. Such a fun read.
Yes! This one was so much fun. I love Cara and Grant so much. They are super sexy, cute, and definitely belong together. Wish it didn’t take them so long (in their lives).
I love the mr and mrs smith vibes, and mafia tangles. Such a good time!
I was gifted an E-Arc of this from Grey’s Promotions. I was hooked on this book right away. So I don’t give anything away the plot was really had me hooked. I have never read anything like this before and I can’t wait to read more from this author. Also I feel like the mix of spice, romance and plot was perfect.
This book had me swooning hard. Two private security CEOs fighting for contracts that ultimately get paired up and the kicker…the guy is her dad’s best friend. The age gap factor was chefs kiss perfection to add to this story along with the heavy sexual tension between these two characters. Cara, that’s my girl right there, is such a strong FMC that lives to make the point she can make it in a man’s world. And then walks in Grant who also strong but wants to give every bit of support to Cara to make her the best of the best even if she doesn’t realize it. The story had me hooked from the beginning and I really could not put it down.
Going in blind to Tell Me All Your Lies turned out to be a thrilling decision. This fast-paced, spicy, romantic suspense gave off strong Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes, featuring two seasoned spies teaming up for a high-stakes mission. The twist? A marriage of convenience to infiltrate their target.
The dynamic between Grant—Cara's dad’s best friend—and Cara crackles with tension, history, and undeniable chemistry. Despite the age gap, their relationship feels natural and electric, rooted in past missions and a long-standing rivalry. The banter, action, and heat levels are top-tier, making this read a wildly entertaining escape.
Highly recommended for fans of action-packed romance with a bit of edge. Angel Anders just earned a spot on the TBR backlog.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A quick and easy read from Angel Anders with her latest book in the Carolinas series and Tell Me All Your Lies was a fast paced, age gap romance between two business rivals who competed against each other in the world of contract spies with the added frisson of Grant Sinclair being the best friend of Cara Collins father. Their latest case sees them having to put their differences aside as they go undercover as husband and wife to bring down the elusive Mr Big, the Kingpin of the Carolinas.
I enjoyed that both characters were more mature in this book and while it would’ve been a bit ick if Grant and her father had been the same age, Grant was ten years younger than him at fifty with Cara being in her thirties so while it was a large age gap, it didn’t seem to matter as much than if she’d been in her early twenties.. The tension had been building between them ever since they’d first clashed in the field, but it was obvious Grant was interested in developing things between them even before their latest job together gave him the opportunity he was looking for. Their romance was slowburn until it wasn’t and once the brakes came off, it was foot hard on the accelerator and things went from tepid to boiling quickly with one particular scene that was seriously kinky. With an engaging plot with enough twists, turns and a sting in the tail that I did have an inkling might happen, this was a strong forced proximity romance even though I would’ve liked more of their back history.
This book is part of an interlinked series but although some familiar characters make an appearance, I don’t think any spoilers are revealed if you read these books out of order.
Booted Book Dragon reporting for duty—this time with a review of a spicy little spy romance e-ARC: Tell Me All Your Lies. Big thanks to Angel Anders for the ARC!
This is book four in a series, but you can jump in without reading the others and still follow the plot just fine.
We’ve got Cara, mid-30s, a capable and grown FMC (praise be—she’s not 22), and Grant, late 40s, her dad’s hot BFF (but younger than dad, so not too weird). They’ve known each other for a while, and when they’re assigned to a risky mission together, they actually get married beforehand—strategically—so they can’t be forced to testify against one another if things go sideways. Smart? Yes. Steamy? Also yes.
On the plus side: • Mature leads for the win—loved seeing an FMC in her 30s. • Quick pace and popcorn-read vibes. • One twist at the end genuinely surprised me.
But here’s what didn’t hit for me: • The villain names and dialogue were corny. • The big “let’s have sex in front of a villain and a front window” scene came out of nowhere. There were no hints that the FMC was into exhibitionism, so it felt way off-character. • The plot was fairly easy to predict outside that final twist.
Overall, this was just okay for me—fun in places but a bit too corny to fully land. If you like age-gap spy drama with fast-burning romance and don’t mind a few eye-roll moments, it’s worth a shot.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is the story of Cara and Grant. She is one of the best contract spies in the world. However, she is not the only one. Her dad's best friend and her arch nemesis, Grant is also the best. When they are both contacted by the director of the Agency to catch one of the most elusive, wanted criminals in the world they have to team up. Not only do they have to catch this guy and work together, but now they have to infiltrate the Carolina's Mafia and dismantle the entire thing. Doing this won't be easy and it really seems next to impossible when you don't trust each other and have to pose as a married couple with a sordid past. These two have always been rivals. They often are competing for the same jobs since they are both the best of the best there is out there. This has racked up the tension between these too and they hold grudges. But, they are able to get along when they had to. I loved the maturity of these characters because of their work but also there again. They have an age gap these two are in their middle thirties and late forties. I loved that these two have had an attraction and always fought it but can keep that out of the work they have to do. But when those walls come down it is a beautiful thing to witness. I thought this was a really sweet romance even though the spy part of this story was dangerous.
This was my first Angel Anders book. I really enjoyed parts of it! (I also was disappointed but parts of it). I wish I could have given it 3.5 stars- but I went 4 because I didn’t want to do just 3.
Cara and Grant are fun characters. The idea behind the age gap/Dad’s best friend trope was appealing, but never actually came with any sort of tension or struggle, so I’m not sure it was really a necessary component… it had no effect on the story. Enemies to lovers was much more prominent.
I enjoyed the undercover aspect, which surprised me as I didn’t expect to, it’s not usually my thing. I can’t say I kept up with the entire story- some of the interactions didn’t make sense to me, but that could be because I don’t read many undercover stories and my brain doesn’t easily pick up on those clues.
I really liked some of the spicy scenes. One was a little surprising- you’ll know which one when you read it. I think what lowered my rating was that Cara and Grant were kind of already in love with each other at the start- but fighting it and denying it even to themselves. So even though they end up “in love” I felt like we never really got to experience them falling for each other. They go on this assignment and then just kind of give up on fighting, but we don’t get much to help us fall in love with them as readers.
Still- for the most part, the writing was decent and I’m definitely open to reading another book by Angel.
I want to thank Greys Promotions and author Angel Anders for the opportunity to read an ARC of Tell Me All Your Lies.
This story dives into the mystery within a mafia organization and the roles our two main characters, Cara and Grant, play in it. Their chemistry is vivid from the start and quickly intensifies. If you're a fan of fast-burning infatuation and love-obsession tropes, this book will definitely deliver.
One of the things I really enjoyed was how both characters fought their growing feelings, adding tension and depth to their connection. There were also some great intimate moments between them, though I have to admit a few of Grant’s lines felt a little cringy and pulled me out of the moment.
The book is fast-paced, which keeps it engaging, though at times I had to reread bits of dialogue to keep up. While it works as a standalone, I felt a bit lost with some of the side characters who likely tie into other books in the series.
I also loved the age gap between Cara and Grant. It brought an extra layer of intrigue to their relationship. If you're looking for a fast-paced mafia romance with steamy tension and emotional push-and-pull, this one’s for you.
Tell Me All Your Lies by Angel Anders is releasing June 10, 2025!
🖤🃏ARC Review🃏🖤 Thank you Grey’s Promotions and Angel Anders for this ARC copy of Tell Me All Your Lies! This was not only my first book from Angel Anders but also my first “Mafia” type romance! I thoroughly enjoyed it! These two characters had so much chemistry and I loved how Grant aka Ace knew that he needed to talk to Cara to avoid any miscommunication with how he feels about her. • I am so glad these two got paired together for an undercover mission, otherwise I don’t think they would have ever explored or even acknowledged how they felt about each other. • This was definitely a SLOW Burn, but once the heat kicked in it didn’t stop, they couldn’t get enough of each-other! 🥵 • The story did start off slow, but I get it, things needed to be explained and the background of the characters and why they were “rivals” and everything. Once it picked up things happened fast and then it was boom over. The set-up was so detailed being about the first 30-40% of the book but then the actual “take-down” was done in a matter of pages… • I absolutely loved all the tropes! This was a quick read and it definitely left me wanting more of Grant and Cara! Tropes: 🖤Rivals to Lovers 🃏Spy/Mafia 🖤Touch Her and Die 🃏Marriage of Convenience 🖤Dads Best Friend 🃏Age Gap 🖤He Falls First 🃏No 3rd Act Break-Up
🖤 Mafia Romance 🫦 Age Gap (36, 49) 💙 Father's Best Friend 💥 Business Rivals 💍 Fake Marriage 😶🌫️ Spies Undercover
A solid undercover romance, with slight enemies to lovers and element of forbidden. Grant and Cara have worked undercover to take down factions of the mafia, drug dealers etc. Grant is also her father's best friend. They end up having an unlikely team up where they have to infiltrate some villainous marks dealing in diamonds etc. Grant and Cara end up facing the banter as secret love language they've usedon each other the past few years.
Grant has always had a crush on her and he's super s3xy, sweet, and has a gentleman's charm that I love. The forced proximity plays out quite well amidst the suspense of their undercover agenda. It carried a pretty solid balance of this. Keeping in mind this is a faster paced narrative, it still had some good push-pull in the beginning with them and the action was snappy.
I would definitely enjoy this as a 90 min romance/action/spies undercover team up if it were a movie. Once this couple fell, they fell all in (maybe a bit too fast but they work well together) , fast and hard, and sometimes that's a fun change, especially when the pacing and action moves as well as this did.
I had a great time with this one! Cara and Grant are rival spies who’ve spent years stealing jobs and side-eyeing each other in the field, but when they’re forced to team up (complete with a fake marriage for the mission!), all that sharp tension turns into something much deeper. And yeah… sexier too.
There’s also a bit of a twist, Grant is Cara’s dad’s best friend. But before you panic, she’s in her mid-thirties and he’s 49, so this isn’t your usual super-taboo setup. Honestly, their relationship felt mature in the best way. Even when they’re at odds, they know how to work together when it counts, and I really appreciated that.
The romance does move fast, but it makes sense since they’ve known each other for years. We’re just jumping in when things finally boil over. And wow, when it does? Hello, heat. Definitely gave me Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes, but with more sweetness and emotional payoff than I expected.
If you like spy games, enemies-to-lovers tension, and age-gap romance that doesn’t feel icky, I think you’ll enjoy this one too.
Spice Level: 3.5/5 – hot but not overwhelming CW: alcohol use, voyeurism, exhibitionism, murder/violence
Huge thanks to Grey’s Promo and the author for the ARC!
I really enjoyed this story. I’m a big fan of women in control. Women who can handle their business, fight and do everything that a man can do. In this book we have Cara and Grant. They each own their own private security company where they sometimes go undercover to get their criminal. Grant is at the point where he is winding down he’s slightly older than her around forty-five and Cara is in her late thirties. Now these two have met socially because Grant is a good friend of her father’s. They have also connected on investigations where she captured the criminal before he did. Now these two are both hunting for a mastermind criminal and must work together as a married couple. Now Grant freely admits that he is very attracted to Cara but it would cause too many problems if something did happen. Cara seems to be much too busy with her company to seek companionship. However, when these two are working in close together and in close proximity. These hidden feelings develop and are explored in a very sweet and loving romance. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. As a reader I’m always searching for those older characters who have a much more mature outlook on life and love and this book was a prime example of one.
🔥 Spy games, sizzling chemistry, and fake marriage tension? SIGN. ME. UP. 🔥 Tell Me All Your Lies by Angel Anders is a high-stakes, undercover romantic suspense with all my favorite tropes wrapped into one dangerously fun ride.
💥 Dad’s best friend ✅ 💥 Rivals to lovers ✅ 💥 Age gap ✅ 💥 Fake marriage while taking down the Carolina mafia? ✅✅
Cara is a badass FMC who runs her own security firm—and she’s not thrilled to be paired with her dad’s infuriating (and hot) bestie, Grant. But when their “married couple with secrets” cover starts to blur the lines between fake and real? Yeah, sparks fly. 😏
It’s a slow burn with punchy action scenes, juicy secrets, and some red herrings that actually surprised me. The spice hits in the second half and blends right in with the tension of their mission.
💬 If you love your romance with adrenaline, banter, and just the right amount of forbidden, you’ll want this one on your TBR!
“To fighting for the life you want and getting it on your own terms. Here’s to happily ever afters that break the mold.”
The 4th book in the Carolinas Series Tell Me All Your Lies has the suspense, the love, lust and angst all come together to give us the rival to lovers we did not expect. Grant and Cara are both spies that are tasked with going undercover to bring down one of the most wanted criminals. When your line of work is filled with secrecy, deception and lies can they both come together to overcome that and trust each other? Grant and Cara aside from being in the same line of work also have a person in common in their everyday life. Grant is best friends with Cara’s dad. What starts off as a mission and a marriage of convenience gets to become so much more than that. A life full of lies but two people who are willing to risk it and share a part of their lives that no one knows about. When feelings get involved does the age gap matter, the friendship between Grant and Cara’s dad, and being set in their ways does all this add to the indecision. The chemistry between both of them is felt from their vows to that initial moment they say “f” it and finally take that step. Two people with the same mystery in life. Angel Anders fully commits to giving us that spice and love story with a little suspense.
I enjoyed parts of this book, and overall I really enjoy the series, however I feel like there were quite a bit of plot holes, or parts of the story that didn’t have nearly as much development to make the story feel complete.
Did I love the way that Grant treated Cara once they admitted their feelings? Yes, but it was so sudden. They went from partners on a job to “I love you” really quickly and it felt very rushed.
Mafia plots require a lot of development and world building, and I think that’s what this story lacked. I wasn’t sure of the importance of the Marlin, and the Kingpin plot was touched on, but I couldn’t even remember what book that was from. I wish I had understood the “job” aspect. I also didn’t quite understand why Cara and Grant were supposed to be “rivals” things were barely discussed so there was a lot of information that I feel was necessary for me to buy into the whole plot that was missing.
Of course I’m always a sucker for an age gap, dad’s best friend, my wife trope and this book did those things really well.
Final Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice Rating: 2.5/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Review:
I received this ARC from Grey’s Promotion and went into reading the story relatively blind and I’m happy I did. This was such a fun surprise of a book and it did not disappoint at all.
Tell Me All Your Lies had the right mix of plot and spice for me. It was a fast paced story that I could not put down once I really dived into the book. The relationship between Cara and Grant was done with the right amount of tension and build up. I really enjoyed the banter between the characters and how both of them were confident within themselves and their partnership.
I haven’t read the other stories in the In The Carolinas series, but I wasn’t lost at all for this standalone. But I’m definitely going to go back and read the other books now and the ones coming in the future. If you want a good spy/mafia story, I’d definitely check this one out.
Thank you to Angel Anders and Grey’s Promotions for this ARC!
