I once had the great opportunity of meeting a veteran from Kokoda and this wonderful account of the battle along the famed Kokoda trail from the initial retreat to the the defeat of Japanese forces in New Guinea brought his story to life. Like Gallipoli the Kokoda campaign is part of Australian ANZAC lore though unlike Gallipoli, it ended in an Australian victory. Well written and informative it allowed me to look at the story as though I was there myself
