This felt half baked. I get what this book was trying to do. but... It felt like skim milk to me lol Especially knowing ILWTV. Yes, I know that this book is short and thus feels rushed. That still doesn't explain some weird things:
- The narrator saying "So the MC is special and can use powerful magic, but I won't tell you why right now. Thanks". Why? That surely could have been written more naturally. - There's a scene where Maha is painting a watercolor painting. Two pages later this painting suddenly is called oil painting... I don't know if this is the writing or the German translation. - Maha wearing empty frames, but one illustration clearly showing the lenses, and one scene explaining how she took them off, so they wouldn't get fogged up by vapor.
Sadly I didn't feel much chemistry between the main couple. I'm pained to say it, but they seemed more like sisters to me. The side couple was much more interesting than them. And the book only got interesting around 2/3rds in imo.
This is a book for a special kind of depressed people, I think. I could vibe with it, but the execution wasn't the best.
I mean, Ruly tendrá unos 5-6 años(?)

Between the aimless plot that kicks in only at the 70% mark, the milquetoast translation that can't consistently write Ruri's dialogue (the translator is different from the villainess series [more's the shame] and Ruri either speaks normally or like a toddler), and a setting that is never filled out beyond the vaguest sketches, I was sadly a little disappointed. This novel reads like it was written with an eight-grade audience in mind (and that's fine!), but children too deserve well-structured yuri.
Maha, a alchemist fighting demons, is instructed to train Ruri, a artificial girl created only to fight. Only Ruri is a goof unsuitable to battle... so Maha has to figure out how to train her without falling to her cute sweetness.
Kind of default yuri, as NO male characters get shown.
inori is a guilty pleasure author for me. I loved her previous series but this one didn't resonate with me. I feel like this might have worked better as a longer book to give us more time with Maha and Ruri in lighthearted moments. I started to get into it near the end but by that point there were 20 pages left.
Inori.-sensei has always been good at mixixing the serious with a Yuri good time. We see again the backdrop of demonic nihilism only this time creeping into the thoughts of the MCs. A must for fans of "I'm in Love With the Villainess. "
Overall Homunculus Tears is a well written tale, and it does have a good message throughout. It’s well worth the read. While not quite as Comic as I’m in Love with the Villainess, its a well paced and engaging tale. And really have to give it to the author for taking a risk and self publishing on a global scale. (English, Japanese, and German).
