Skating to Him

Rate this book
I’m skating to the NHL while he’s running from his past. When we collide, am I brave enough to take the shot?Tyler
Hockey is my life. My ticket to the NHL is in sight, and I can’t afford distractions.
Then Coach pairs me with Rowan, the new guy from Boston.
He’s talented, sharp, and annoyingly irresistible.
When he asks to hit the gay bar with me and my friends, I chalk it up to curiosity.
But one too many drinks later, I spill my truth—and suddenly, he’s looking at me like he’s ready to cross a line he’s never touched before.
I’ve been burned by straight guys before, and I’m not about to get hurt again.
Rowan swears he’s different. Can I risk believing him?

Rowan
Leaving Boston was my escape—from my mom’s illness, from the pressure, from myself.
But playing alongside Tyler changes everything. He’s not just the best defenseman I’ve ever met, he’s magnetic and so guarded I ache to know what’s underneath.
I’ve never wanted a man before, but Tyler makes me question everything I knew about myself.
I need him to see I’m not playing games.
This is real. He’s real.
And I won’t stop fighting until he believes it.

Skating to Him is the fifth book in the college hockey series, Desert Ice Hockey, and is the follow up to the Rock U series. It features a D-man burned by a curious straight guy and another having a bisexual awakening, hurt/comfort, and found family among the backdrop of the holidays. Desert Ice Hockey follows a group of queer hockey players, known as the squad, while they each battle for their HEA.

Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back.
When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey).
She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.

I didn’t even realize this was the 5th book 💀 I still have the same gripes I did from the first book. This is not good and the characters have 0 chemistry…it’s 500 pages of thr author telling you what’s happening with no connection to them at all.

And they really did not need to make mmc1’s mom have the same disease as mmc2 to bring them together. And a little more research on the actual disease would have helped🙃🙃

Skating to Him is the 5th book in the Desert Ice Hockey series. I feel this series is best to read in order to get the most out of the story so why not enjoy the rest of the series. This is the story of Tyler the star defenseman of the hockey team and Rowan who is a new to the team defenseman. I loved both the guys because they are so well written that you feel like you know them. I love all of the emotions this story includes such as trust, identity and courage. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

“It was like his presence calmed something in my soul.”

Skating to Him by Christie Gordon is the fifth book in the Desert Ice Hockey series, and another great addition. This time, the story follows Tyler Hodge and Rowan McKenzie.

Tyler is a senior at ASU and a D-man for the Devils, the university’s hockey team. He’s also part of the Squad, a tight-knit group of queer hockey players. He lives with two of his friends, Ace and Myles. Hockey runs in his family as his dad coaches in the Juniors league in Chicago, and his brother plays for the NY Rangers. Tyler’s got some big opportunities ahead, with the Chicago Blackhawks scouting him, and his agent, Dean, working on landing him a solid contract.

Rowan is the new guy on the team, transferring from Boston for personal reasons. He’s also a defenseman, and the coach pairs him up with Tyler on the same line. Unlike Tyler, Rowan hasn’t been scouted yet. One night, Rowan tags along with Tyler and Myles to their usual gay bar. He goes just for fun, but something unexpected happens, he starts feeling an attraction to Tyler, something he’s never experienced with another guy before. Until now, he’s always thought he was straight.

“I’m attracted to a dude. A really hot fucker who I admire in my sport and who’s now my partner on the ice. I even wanted to kiss him goodnight tonight.”

Meanwhile, Tyler has been into Rowan from the start, though he doesn’t want to be someone’s experiment. But Rowan is sure about his feelings and he is willing to do anything just so Tyler believes him.

"I’m only going to pull and bullshit on you, Tyler. I want this, and it’s not just for fun. This is serious.”

As things unfold, they make it work and develop a strong, loving relationship. One thing that bonds them even more is the fact that both their moms have MS. Rowan is surprisingly open to exploring his new identity and embraces his feelings for Tyler. They keep things under wraps at first, but eventually, their friends find out. There are a few moments of tension before Rowan comes out to his family, but in the end, it’s totally worth it.

“I never knew I could feel like this about a guy. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt this way before about anyone.”

As in the other books in the series, the secondary characters are awesome. I loved Teddy, and Rowan’s brothers. I’d like for Teddy to have his own book, and also Aaron, and maybe Nathan, too?

The subplots in this book are another thing that makes it an amazing read. And the epilogue is fantastic, by then, their relationship is rock solid, and their NHL dreams are finally starting to take shape.

Will be waiting for Myles book to know about his relationship with the football player.

I received an ARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.

Tyler Hodge is a senior at ASU who is a star defenseman in the college hockey club, and a member of the Squad, team members who are also queer. As well, he comes from a family with a lot of connections in hockey. He and his teammate Myles are planning a night out at a gay bar hoping to score. A recent arrival in Tempe is Rowan who transferred to ASU from Boston. He decides to accompany them despite being straight. While there, Rowan develops some feelings he doesn’t quite understand. He and Tyler eventually get together and create a lot of steam. Meanwhile, both of them have mothers diagnosed with MS (Tyler’s more recently with “regular” MS, but Rowan’s diagnosed a decade ago with the nastiest kind), Further, both are seniors who are looking to continue to the NHL. Tyler is approached by a scout for the Chicago Blackhawks and will likely be signed. His agent, Dean, has also been approached by the Boston Bruins. Rowan has not heard any expressions of interest, though he has no agent. They have to overcome a lot of obstacles to attain their happy ending.

This book has a number of plot elements that result in a complex story with a degree of suspense. First, there’s the romance story between Tyler and Rowan, both of whom are great, sympathetic characters. They act totally like adults rather than like horny teenagers. In another plot element, they keep their relationship just between them because they aren’t sure how Rowan’s father or their teammates will react. Add to that the scouting story (while Chicago appears certain, there is always the possibility of Boston where Rowan’s mother is going through a nasty MS episode) wherein Rowan does not appear to be in demand, at least on the surface. Finally, there are minor distractions, like being injured by a retribution attack during a game. All of these various plot twists are ably handled by the author and all get untwisted into happy endings. In this, she is assisted by realistic secondary characters, many of whom come out of previous installments.

Ms Christie is rapidly rising to being one of my favourite authors. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Here we go with the next installment of Christie's Desert Ice Hockey series! We are down to Tyler, Myles, and goalie Ace in the Squad House this season as all the other guys have graduated from ASU and moved on. And Ace is hooked-up with his figure-skating boyfriend even though they don't live together yet. So it's Tyler & Myles holding down the fort as the last 2 single guys. But fasten your seat belts because this is Tyler's book and his status is about to change - bigtime!

Tyler needs a new defensive linemate, so Coach pairs him with new transfer Rowan from Boston. Rowan identifies as straight but has a gay best friend he grew up with back in Beantown. On the ice and then off the ice, sparks fly between these guys from first meeting. But there are issues. Tyler is fully-out, but he had a bad experience back in HS with a "curious" guy that didn't end well. And Rowan is curious, but doesn't know how to initiate anything with a dude. So these guys kinda tap-dance around their mutual attraction to each other. Till the team's first road trip when they are roomies and neither of them can hold back anymore

This book is relatively low-angst compared to the others in this series. Just a nice romance between two hockey player jocks that ends well. Other than some physical monkey business during a game and then a bar fight later on (both with a player from another team that is pretty homophobic), there isn't much conflict or negativity that we have to navigate with these two. Their families have a common denominator in that both guys' Moms have MS. But any doubts about their parents or siblings not accepting their connection evaporates and these guys have a strong platform on which to build a lasting relationship. A nice enjoyable read that's hard to put down. Bonus point to Christie for all the car references - I want a ride in Rowan's classic souped-up Mustang!

Great Epilogue where we see how the NHL feels about both players, and as a bonus Christie gives Myles something to smile about as one of the ASU football players makes a move on him. Looks like Book 6 is gonna be Myles' story and might be introducing us to Christie's next universe - the ASU football team. Looking forward to that, and meanwhile a solid 4 stars for Skating to Him!

A pleasure to read Tyler's story and to meet up with some of the other members of the squad in this fifth volume.
Rowan is absolutely adorable, a little naive at first, and yet his best friend is himself gay, but he accepts his attraction to Tyler quite simply. His questions and moments of doubt are well-written without being too heavy-handed. It's refreshing!
Tyler has had a bad experience, but Rowan knows how to reassure him and things progress naturally between them.
The hardest part is the state of their mother's health, and particularly Rowan's. It's hard to accept having to “move away” for your own good, when at the same time you want to be close to those you love in difficult times.
It's a decision, not an easy one, but a courageous one, to accept putting oneself before others, to protect oneself without it being abandonment. It's not easy not to feel guilty.
Fortunately, Rowan has all the support of his family, and in turn, he can be there for Tyler in difficult times with his own mom.
A new tome, in line with the previous ones, a charming couple, a pleasure to read, well described and endearing characters.
Now I can't wait to discover Myles' story!

-------

Christie Gordon has done it again, in this 5th book of 6 in the Desert Ice Hockey series. The story features Tyler, one of the original squad members (a group of queer hockey players on the ASU team) who is in his senior year and hoping for an offer from an NHL team, and Rowan, a transfer student from Boston, who moved to Arizona to focus on hockey without distractions from his family.

Tyler is interested in Rowan from the start and is excited to get paired with him on the same defensive line on their team and Rowan is also stoked to be paired together since Tyler was one of the reasons Rowan wanted to play for ASU. Thus begins their friendship. And while Tyler is attracted to Rowan, Rowan has always identified as straight which makes Tyler proceed with caution especially since he has been burned by a “curious” straight boy in the past. A night out at the gay bar gets a bit confusing for them both and then after they’re assigned to room together on the road and Rowan is there to support Tyler when he gets some difficult news, their friendly relationship begins to morph into something more.

Ultimately, despite many potential pitfalls…the stress of potentially being picked up by an NHL team (and maybe teams on opposite coasts), concerns about family members’ health, a relationship between teammates (on the same line, no less), and Rowan coming to terms with not being as straight as he believed and needing to come out to his family and friends, this is really a low angst book overall with a happy ending for the two men and more beautiful found family among the squad and their significant others.

Another steamy and sweet romance by Christie with two likable main characters and their supportive and hilarious group of friends. I’m looking forward to the final squad member finding his happily ever after in Myles’ story.

I recommend starting at book 1 of the Desert Ice Hockey series (Stick By Me), or even earlier with the Mesa Boys and Rock U series, to get the full backstory on the cast of friends.

I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest and voluntary review.

This is the fifth book in the Desert Ice Hockey series. I think it can be enjoyed as a standalone read but you would really get more out of it if you read the series in order. This is the story of Tyler Hodge and Rowan McKenzie. Both men are on the University's hockey team and seniors at school. This is their chance to try and make their NHL dream come true.

Tyler is a star defenseman. He has been with the team for a few years and is one of the founding members of "The Squad". They are well known for being a group of gay hockey players that all live together and support each other. Slowly all the members of the group are graduating or moving onto the NHL to play hockey professionally. That is what Tyler is hoping for. He has a strong pedigree with his family being so hockey established. HIs agent Dean is sure it will happen. Being scouted by the Chicago Blackhawks is a step in the right direction.

Rowan is a new addition to the team. Also a great defenseman, he and Tyler end up being partnered on the ice. The synchronicity is there but so is the chemistry. Rowan has a lot of stressors with his mom's illness so he has moved to the desert to give it his best shot at being picked up by an NHL team. Rowan has no agent and is not currently being scouted by any NHL teams. But with the way he and Tyler click on the ice, that may soon change.

When Rowan and his new team mates go to a gay bar for a few drinks, things start to change. Both for him and Tyler. Tyler is immediately attracted to his "straight" teammate. He is trying to hide his interest but realizes that for the season, him and Rowan will be roommates on all away games. How will he hide his interest? Things change for Rowan as well. He will have to decide what will make him happy. This is their story. The book is well written and easy to read. It is a low angst read and I found it quite enjoyable. I liked how they supported each other so well. I look forward to the next book in this series.

I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is book five of the author’s Desert Ice Hockey series and featured Tyler, one of the original members at ASU of a group of out and proud hockey players that call themselves “the squad”.

In high school Tyler had been hurt by a bi-curious football player and refused to get involved with anyone looking to use him as an experiment ever again so when Rowan, his straight D-line partner, kissed him it sent up all kinds of red flags causing Tyler to reject his advances.

Rowan was a new transfer to ASU in his senior year but this was his last chance to show what he was capable of in hopes of making it to the NHL and needed to be able to focus. He just happened to choose ASU because it had Tyler Hodge, the best D-man around and pretty much hockey royalty. He couldn’t believe it when he started having confusing thoughts about his partner, thoughts he’d never had before, but after struggling with it for a while he had to find out, he couldn’t keep going with all the conflicting feelings but he never dreamed Tyler would reject him…hadn’t he been checking him out nonstop since Rowan got there?

This book was perfection for me; it was angst free, had two emotionally available MCs, sweet as pie and super steamy. Both guys were kind and friendly, close to their families and neither was arrogant or a jerk. The squad, as with all of the previous Desert Ice Hockey books, remained close and supportive and happily welcomed Rowan into the friend group. They didn’t play as large a part in this one as the others but I love hearing every little tidbit about them that we get, they were all just a great bunch of guys. I’m gonna be really sad when the series comes to an end—but I’ve felt the same about all of the series Ms. Gordon has written (especially Rock U, it was a special favorite). Each of the books in the series, though connected, can be read as a standalone but I expect you’ll probably get hooked, like I am, and want to read them all. It’s a super series, 5 stars!!

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

I’ve got to say I couldn’t read this book fast enough I just couldn’t put it down. I got so invested in Tyler and Rowan. Tyler is going places he has scouts coming out to look at him when he’s on the ice playing hockey he’s a defence man and he loves it. But he can’t take his eyes off the new guy Rowan who has just moved to the college. He gets totally lost in his eyes. The only problem is Rowan his straight. So Tyler tries to curb it but after a game they won, they want to go out celebrating so Tyler and his best friend Myles who are both gay Decide they want to go to the gay bar to celebrate. Before they can leave Tyler and Rowan are called into the coaches office to see how they feel about being partners on the ice as they were on fire tonight both agree they feel like a good match so Tyler invite Rowan to the gay bar to celebrate.
Rowan is new so when Tyler invites him to go celebrate with him and his best friend he agrees straight away he’s got a best friend back home Teddy who gay so he’s used to go into gay bars but what he’s not used to is feelings for another man. But he make sure that Tyler who gets a bit tiddly knows that he’s straight. but then days later row and kisses Tyler but the problem being his Tyler has been burnt before by somebody who didn’t want to come out and it really hurt him so he is on the back foot but could Taylor and Rowan have something special??
Honestly, I absolutely adore this book. I just adored how Rowan was so open to the idea that he was having these feelings and he wanted to explore them with Tyler. It was something very electric about these two together. They are definitely made for one another. There is definitely a strong bond but will also connect and is the fact that both their mums have multiple sclerosis. And they share their the fears the worries together a fantastic read.

I listened to the audiobook and honestly, I loved every minute of it. The narration really brought the story to life. It made the characters feel so real and their emotions hit even harder. Tyler and Rowan’s connection was beautiful, and I found myself connected to them. Christie Gordon did an amazing job blending romance, friendship, and personal growth. The audiobook just made it all feel even more genuine. Definitely one I’d recommend to any hockey romance fan!

This is the third Desert Ice Hockey book I've read, and just like the last two, I enjoyed this one as well! Tyler and Rowan's story made me for the third time, long to find a boyfriend who plays hockey even though it's not a very popular sport in Texas (the books do take place in Arizona, so maybe I'm just not looking in the right place). Like the last Desert Ice Hockey book, Spinning to the Goal, Skating to Him has a lot of hot scenes, ones that were reminiscent of my own when I first came out. The story also takes place parallel to the ones in Spinning to the Goal, which I thought was a nice touch.
What I enjoy about these books is that none of them are coming-of-age stories, which most LGBT books I've read are. The characters are all in their 20s and sure, Rowan might be experiencing a bi-awakening in this story, but at least he's an adult, and not a high schooler dealing with the struggle of growing up LGBT. This makes the book more relatable considering that my 20-year High School reunion is coming up.
I'm interested to see what Christie has planned for the next, and presumably final book in the Desert Ice Hockey series. Myles is the only character who hasn't found a boyfriend at this point and it makes me wonder if he will start to feel like a third wheel whenever The Squad gets together and he's the only one who's single. As someone who's been in that situation I know how awkward it can feel, so I hope his romance makes the wait worth it. Also, if it is the final book, I'd like to see how she ends the entire series, or if she opens it up to a brand new cast of characters.

In Skating to Him ASU hockey squad member Tyler finally gets his turn at love and his happy ever after. This is the fifth book in the Desert Ice Hockey series that follows a group of queer best friends, known as the squad, who all play ice hockey for ASU. In the series we have watched four of them fall in love, graduate and move on to the NHL.
Tyler is adjusting to a lot of changes in this new season. He is a senior, playing his final season of college hockey with Myles, the last member of the squad still on the team. He has a new defensive teammate Rowan, who is a transfer from Boston. Rowan is straight, handsome, and ready to dive in with both feet to work with Tyler on being the best defensive partners in the league. Tyler is apprehensive about how well he and Rowan are getting along on and off the ice. He has been burned before by falling for a straight guy and does not want a repeat performance but he cannot seem to fight his growing feelings for his new partner.
Rowan is trying for a fresh start on the other side of the country. He has always considered himself straight but finds himself thinking about and wanting to be with Tyler more than he would with anyone else. He realizes, maybe he isn’t as straight as he thought he was.
Skating to Him is another strong novel in this series. Tyler and Rowan are a great couple that come together with a caring and supportive bi-awakening story. As with the other books in the series, this novel is a stand-alone but it does help to read the others first. I am already looking forward to Myles’ story but I will be sad when this series ends.

I thought this was a sweet, loving story about two people finding and accepting love and building a real relationship together. Tyler is focused on hockey and making it the NHL and then he meets his new teammate Rowan and not only do they click perfectly on the ice, there is a completely unexpected connection off the ice. These two weren’t expecting that at all – Tyler is always the hook up type and Rowan, well, he’s always considered himself straight. But, there’s something really special between them that cannot be denied.

The feelings between Tyler and Rowan develop pretty quickly, even though both of them are a bit hesitant and unsure of how things will work. But again, these two just work together and they find another common connection when they learn that both of their moms are suffering from MS, it helps connect them. I really enjoyed seeing them open up to each other and how their bond grows. They are so sweet together and while they work to keep their relationship a secret in the beginning they don’t really succeed – their love for each other just comes through.

Again, this was a sweet and touching read and I really enjoyed their journey together. This isn’t an angsty or dramatic read at all, it’s really more about Tyler and Rowan and how they fall in love and build their relationship. Definitely a feel-good read that will make your heart happy and there’s great hockey (and the Squad)! A great addition to this series, I really love this group of guys!

Yayyy, we’re back to my Desert Hockey guys! It’s only been two months since I read Ace and Zoma’s book, but it feels like forever. Tyler and Rowan were SO worth the wait, though. The support they showed each other during family trials just melts my heart. I expected my favorite tropes and I got them! Hello bi-awakening my old friend lol. I could read queer awakening books all day every day, and hockey is a huge bonus to go with them! So yes, I’m biased. But I’m also fair.

I think I have a deeper appreciation for the side characters who continue to reappear because I read all of the previous books and formed attachments within each. These guys are just a really solid bunch and found a great addition to the family in Rowan. That’s not a spoiler, it’s just a given that they adopt every queer guy who joins the team (whether they know they’re queer or not).

I’m pretty sure another teammate won’t be getting his own book, but I feel like I picked up some potential hints (so Christie, if you were thinking about it, yes I want our resident supportive straight teammate to get his own story!). Regardless, I ooh’d and aww’d over this D-man duo the entire book.

I received a copy of this book directly from the author and this is my honest review. 4.75 stars because I love the squad with my whole heart. Super pumped for possibly my favorite character to get his story next (and to see how life for these two progresses)!!

This is the 5th book in the Desert Ice Hockey (squad) Series). I am such a sucker for low angst love and Hockey players!

Tyler and Rowan, defense partners on and off the ice, I loved them together. My only point of contention was the word "babe", it was slightly overused. I enjoyed the building of their relationship; they clicked right away but still took caution in the beginning as to not hurt and get hurt. Once they started their relationship... boy did they start! LOTS OF STEAMY SCENES :) There was no breakup, which was nice. The angst that was in the story line centered around both of their moms who had different forms of MS. Also, the fact that their mom's had MS is what brought them together and pulled them closer with their care and concern for one another. A small thread throughout the book was a player from providence named Knight who kept picking on Rowan. It eventually came to a head, but again, very minor. I kind of wish there was a game scene after the bar confrontation where Tyler was able to pay Knight back for the way he treated Rowan and Tyler throughout the story. The epilogue wrapped the story up really nicely leaving us to imagine the wonderful Ife these two will have together.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the MC's as well as all the secondary characters. I look forward to Myles finding his Football love and I hope (crossing my fingers) that Teddy will find his forever bear, and there will be a story written for him in the future.

Tyler is on his way to the NHL. He’s ready to focus and cross that finish line and get signed. And when his coach assigns him a new D-man on the ice to be his partner, he knows that together him and Rowan are gonna kill it. Though there is one small problem. Tyler is ridiculously attracted to Rowan. He’ll do what he can to make sure his interest isn’t shone. But the there are moments between them that make Tyler wonder if something could happen between them. Rowan has never been attracted to a guy before. So it takes him a while to realize exactly what this feeling is when it comes to Tyler. And the more he learns about Tyler, the more he likes him. Could there be something between them? The moment these two stop fighting their feelings and get together, they are everything! I loved how these two took a chance on one another. Both had their own reasons to be wary to have a relationship, but they the connection between them was undeniable. And the knew ignoring something like this would be a big mistake. Really loved getting to know Tyler and Rowan and watching them become their best selves as they fought hard for a future together. We are nearing the end of this series with one more squad member left and I can’t wait to see how his story goes!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rowan & Tyler (an audio review)

As I’ve said before, I’m enjoying Christie’s Desert Ice Hockey series. Who knew Tempe was such a hotbed for gay hockey players?

Rowan and Tyler and opposites in some respects. Chicago versus Boston (although a little Toronto thrown in – thank you for that). Tyler’s out, proud, and part of the squad. Rowan’s none of those things. He’s dated plenty of women, but hasn’t figured out his attraction to men yet.

Until he’s put on the same line as Tyler. D-men working together. Doing their best.

Soon, though, they’re confronted with reality – not everyone supports gay men, let alone gay hockey players. Rowan’s past catches up with him in a pretty nasty way. Mostly, though, they’re headed in different directions. Tyler is NHL all the way. Rowan isn’t quite there yet. What will happen at the end of the season when nothing’s guaranteed?

Now, this is a Christie Gordon romance, so I got my happy ending. But these two had to work really hard in deciding what they were willing to sacrifice for love. Love of hockey versus love of the man they believe they’re meant to be with for the rest of their lives.

Finnley Cole is a great narrator for this series. His Canadian accent makes me wince, but I know he’s putting in the effort. He certainly had fun with Boston and Chicago accents in this book. Looking forward to more stories!

SO SWEET AND STEAMY!💕

The fifth book of the Dessert Ice Hockey series leaves us with two single guys in the house- Tyler Hodge and Miles. It is Tyler’s turn…. with his team mate Rowan Mackenzie… who is straight… right?

They get paired up as D-men which brings them closer together on and off the ice which leads to Rowans Bi-Awakening with sweet, funny and steamy consequences!

The found family aspect is always beautiful where The Squad is concerned together with the coming out of a baby Bi but there are people out there who don’t care if they out somebody on social media and that is just wrong!

They have so much in common and read each other so well on and off the ice it is uncanny how they just fit together- like missing puzzle pieces!

These two characters are strong of will and mind and will let no one stand in their way of achieving their biggest dream- playing in the NHL… together!

I loved how The Squad stood together and always spend Thanksgiving together as a family.
Their mothers were so sweet and endearing regarding their illness and the author depicted and showcased it beautifully!

Miles is next, can this adorable man be tamed by a certain football player?….

I voluntarily received an ARC and this is my honest non biased review.

This is another good story in the Desert Ice Hockey series, set in Arizona at ASU with the queer group of hockey players known as “the squad”. This time, it is Tyler Hodge and his new D-man teammate Rowan Mackenzie, finding love on and off the rink. Tyler is out and proud, Rowan is straight, but the odd attraction Rowan feels toward Tyler indicates to him maybe he isn’t quite as straight as he thought he was, finally deciding he is actually bi. As the two get stronger as a team on the ice, and explore more off the ice, their bond strengthens, both having each other’s backs on and off the ice. All is not always smooth, and Rowan has a guy from his past that creates havoc in more ways than one, but the two persevere with Rowan coming out to his family and both acknowledging each other as their boyfriend.
Lots of hockey action on the ice and bedroom action off the ice, with cameo appearances from former squad members, and supportive team and family members as Tyler and Rowan navigate this new attraction and life, hopefully on their way to a career together in the NHL. Realistic and relatable characters in a college hockey world make for an interesting and entertaining read.

So, first there was the Mesa Boys series, then there was the Rock U series, and now we have the Desert Ice Hockey series. We're getting a decent book universe here apparently although there's not as many cameos from previous series as there are in some other book universes I've read. This fifth book had a pretty good plot featuring Tyler and Rowan. A lot of the plot for this book involves Rowan's bisexual awakening and his concerns about coming out. Tyler is a little wary to start something with Rowan at first because he'd had a negative experience with a bicurious guy in high school, but he decides pretty quickly to take a chance on him, and they fall in love fairly quickly. A lot of the angst is internal in this book, and there's no crazy ex or homophobic parent, so it was actually a pretty calm story all things considered. I also appreciated that there wasn't a big coming out statement to press and fans that creates a big fuss, but I wonder if it will end up happening at some point in their NHL career, since they're playing as a defensive pair for Chicago. Anyhow, I didn't have any major complaints with this book, as it was a fairly typical sports romance overall. I'm having fun reading this series.

Tyler Hodge + Rowan MacKenzie

Another touching story of love and finding your true self by Christie Gordon as we follow Tyler towards his HEA.

Tyler needs a new partner on the ice and Rowan just transferred in. Coach pairs them up and they discover that more than anything they want to be partners both on and off the ice.

Rowan has left home to try to escape the stress and worry from his mom's illness. But it's that illness that leads to a connection with Tyler. They are rooming at an away game when Tyler's mom calls to tell him she's been diagnosed with the same thing. The closeness and connection of that moment keeps building until they can't stay away from each other off the ice. And this connection makes their partnership on the ice even better.

I loved how Rowan embraced himself and his love for Tyler. Rowan didn't want to come out at first, but went all in with Tyler. And they still wanted to keep it between themselves (and a few close friends) for a while. Over Christmas, Tyler goes to visit Rowan and they plan to tell Rowan's family after he's told them he's not straight, but plans change because his mom has been ill and he's afraid to upset them worse. However, a rival player who's made trouble for Rowan outs him to his family. With Tyler's support, Rowan talks to his family and finds the support he didn't think he'd have.

I received an ARC of this book. Nothing was given or promised in exchange for this review.

Rowan moves to Arizona with the goal of focusing on hockey. He’s not looking for anything beyond that, until he’s paired with Tyler on the D Team. Rowan starts catching feelings he’s never experienced before, and suddenly, things get a lot more complicated. Tyler’s been there, done that, and isn’t looking to be someone’s experiment, especially not after getting hurt in the past.

I adore this series. Every book has introduced us to strong characters, but what really stands out is the squad’s unwavering friendship. The bond these guys share is something special, it’s supportive, loyal, and often hilarious. It’s honestly one of my favorite things about this series.

This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend starting from book one. You’ll get to know the entire quad and appreciate the full depth of their friendships and stories. And now… we wait for Myles. The last quad member standing and I just know his story is going to be just as amazing!
If you love sports romance with tight-knit friendships, this series is a must-read.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.

I am so glad the Squad is back and I get Tyler's story. D man of the team, hockey is in his blood and like his older brother, he wants a crack at the big league.
Rowan has joined the team in his final year in uni, reasons only known to him but what he does know is that he wants to play with Tyler, even back in Boston everyone had heard of the younger Hodge brother and it was a dream come true for Rowan. But when Rowan sees Tyler in a different light it is another dream that Rowan has.
Whilst Tyler has tried to stop himself crushing on his new team mate, he is knew he was loosing the battle when Rowan started taking an interest in him. Friends and family played a big part in this story and I liked that Rowan had Teddy, a close friend to talk to and I would love Teddy to have his own story.
Whilst it was low angst there was a lot of drama on and off the ice, what with life-changing illness, who will get drafted and to where and a player that I took an instant disliking to. This was an enjoyable read as we follow Rowan and Tyler on their journey to love and I read this story in one sitting and with Myles' story teased I am looking forward to reading it

Skating to Him, the fifth book in the Desert Ice Hockey series, Christie once again scores big with a story that tugs on the heartstrings.
Tyler is laser-focused on the NHL, a no-nonsense defenseman who’s been burned once by a “curious” straight guy and refuses to let his guard down again.
Rowan, the newcomer from Boston, arrives with secrets of his own, a past he’s running from and a magnetic pull toward Tyler that he can’t seem to shake.
What follows is a slow burn, emotionally charged story that explores identity, trust, and the courage it takes to go after the love you didn’t expect. The chemistry between Tyler and Rowan is electric, but it’s the vulnerability—the raw, real moments—that make this romance hit so hard. Tyler’s hesitation is deeply relatable, and Rowan’s bisexual awakening is treated with nuance, respect, and emotional clarity. The impact of both mothers suffering for MS is beautifully covered as well.
As always, the found family dynamic of the squad shines, grounding the story with warmth and humour.
Can’t wait for Myles and his footballer next.

This book was so good! I really enjoyed the MS representation in it. My biological mother had MS so it really connected me to the book. And of course, if it’s hockey I’m gonna read it.

Rowan is the new guy on the team and trying to find his place. He hits it off really well on and off the ice with his d-man teammate Tyler. But he is starting to feel things he has never felt before for a guy. It’s all confusing for him and he isn’t sure how to act about it.

Tyler is waiting for the NHL to scout him in his last year of college. He gets some devastating news about his Mom which leads him to extra close bonding with his teammate, Rowan. Tyler has been hurt before on someone who had just discovered they may be into men and he isn’t sure he can go through that again.

The two of them together just work, on and off the ice. I love how Rowan was the one to make a move first. He seemed to accept his new sexuality pretty well, even though he was scared to tell his family. But everyone handled it pretty good. The two of them were just electric together and sparks were flying.

Skating to Him by Christie Gordon  is about Tyler and Rowan and their story of being teammates and falling in love. Tyler is known for his hockey family and is working hard to make it into the NHL and when he is teamed up with Rowan, the newest transfer, they both seem to be in sync with one another on the ice. Rowan, a transfer from boston hopes that moving to Arizona will help him focus on his game instead of worrying about his mom’s illness constantly. He knows his dad and brothers have everything in hand but it doesn't help the guilt he feels. When Rowan is partnered up with Tyler he couldn't be happier as they each work so well with one another. As they start to spend time together Rowan begins to have confusing feelings for Tyler as he thought he was straight but the more they are together the more he falls in love with him. I enjoyed this story of Rowan finding his one true love in Tyler. Tyler finding the one who he knows will not break his heart not with words but through his actions.

I absolutely loved this story. I have loved all of the different couples coming together in this series but I truly love how well Tyler and Rowen fit together. They are made for each other and really work so well together. These two guys have had their own unique past Rowen’s mom finds out she has MS and he has a hard time dealing with it so Tyler tells him his mom has MS and has for about 10 years so he knows what it feels like. They grow to love each other in this short period which is truly wonderful and they finally have each other, Rowen didn’t know he was bi until he met and started playing on the same hockey team with Tyler, he didn’t have any self doubts but many others (including his father) did question him. Together they are a force to be reckoned with and by them doing so well together they both were offered and accepted positions on the Blackhawk’s team. I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves mm sports romance stories. Especially when they are in audio form and the narrator grabs you and carries you through the adventure together.

Another good and nice story in this series.
As always, the MCs are loving and fortunately communicate with each other. While Rowan is discovering things about himself, he doesn't freak out. Instead, he keeps an open mind and tries to see where this attraction he feels, for the first time, toward another man leads him. He's, as I said, honest with Tyler and does everything he can to make him realize that it's not just an experiment, but that there are feelings involved, since Tyler has had bad experiences before and doesn't want to go through the same thing again.

The story flows, as does their relationship, which solidifies as they spend time getting to know each other, facing together the obstacles of their fledgling careers, such as the health of both of their mothers.

As I said, a good story that's entertaining and leaves you looking forward to the next one!
