I believe this is author, RJ LaCroix’s, debut novel. It’s a quick read military romantic novella with enough combat and base life excitement to get your heart pumping. The relationship between the two main characters grows and eventually results in a steamy love story. Due to the articulated perspective of the main characters and the terminology used, as a reader you feel like you’re there at base camp experiencing/seeing things through their eyes.
If you enjoy military romance books and want something quick and exciting to read, this is likely the book for you.
Book was okay although the storyline goes against my beliefs, sexual relationship's outside marriage. I found the story a little short and perhaps the ending rather abrupt. Characters were okay and perhaps a close representation of real situations in military postings outside home country (what happens there stays there). I felt uncomfortable reading this based on the single/married statis of the head characters as previously stated and will carefully consider any future books from this author. Again my personal beliefs and nothing against author.
My biggest issue with this book is there is zero resolution. She’s still married, they still work together. They haven’t even really discussed how they feel about each other, or how they’ll see each other again. It honestly almost feels as if there’s going to be a second one, but who knows.
This book is also way more military than romance. They’re fighting and hating each other for 75% of the book. Their chemistry is almost non-existent. Truthfully, Jay seems way more invested in it than her.
We learn a lot about Liza and her life (her failed/failing marriage, her kids, etc.) but almost nothing about Jay. There’s a hint that he had past issues with a woman but we never actually find out any information.
Also she’s cheating with zero remorse but absolutely no intentions of divorce. Which… honestly fine. I recognize that it’s my personal preference to have a non-cheating book, not necessarily a reflection on the author himself.
The book at least wasn’t poorly written in the sense that there were no large mistakes, or awful dialogue. Smut was there but extremely minimal. I would almost call this a military book with some romance in it.

Sometimes, following the rules is hard when you're far away from home. Chief Warrant Officer Liza Sloan learns that the day she sets foot on Iraqi soil. She's met with an insurgent attack and a grumpy, know-it-all Major Jay Anderson. (Majors are the worst.) The attraction is immediate, the chemistry hot and the danger at an all-time high. Forget that she's married and affairs are a no-go on deployment. Will Liza and Jay find a way to fight their mutual attraction, or will they give in, potentially putting themselves and others in danger?
I'm always game for a story filled with drama. the action was just the right amount without getting to the gory details of a warzone. while yes Sloan was cheating on her husband, she knew the marriage between them was over based on how he treated her. the spiciness overall was enough to keep me reading and that ending just dropped off a cliff from way up there leaving you wondering what happened at the end. it was a quick read and I'd really like to read what happened next.
