every region from the Arctic Ocean to the Volga Basin, revealing detailed political and topographical information about each of the 191 countries recognized by the United Nations.

The atlas opens with six pages of compiled statistics on world population, climate, and geography. In addition, a highly-illustrated "Earth in Space" thematic section provides twenty-two essays on the Earth's human and natural processes as well as numerous photographs, maps, charts, and graphs. The

illustrate local ethnic populations and occupied territories, helping to decode some of the issues plaguing Colombia, Afghanistan, Kashmir, and other areas.
