Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
Steve Jackson (born 20 May 1951) is a British game designer, writer, and game reviewer, who is often confused with the American game designer of the same name.
Along with Ian Livingstone, he is the creator of the Fighting Fantasy books. The US Jackson also wrote three books in the Fighting Fantasy series, which adds to the confusion, especially as these books were simply credited to "Steve Jackson" without any acknowledgement that it was a different person.
These books are brilliant. I read these books when I was a teen way before Harry Potter. If you like a book which is actually a role playing game. If you like Harry Potter books these books might appeal. Remember...it's only a game.
This is a really good box set if you're looking for Fighting Fantasy books. It keeps you busy... for a while. :P
The First book, "Sorcery! 1: The Shamutanti Hills" is all about a mutated tiger thing with wings thats occupying these hills called the "Shmutanti Hills" and is like terrorising the village folk or somthing and you gota stop the tiger thing. You end up slaying it in the end if you picked the right path, sorry if i ruined it for some people... If i did however then i suggust you dont read on as ill be talking about the second third and forth book as well.
The Second book, "Sorcery! 2: Kharé - Cityport of Traps" is all about, well the city of Kharé :P. This one has a well defined and obvious mission. After your easy trip through the Shamutanti Hills that ended at the gates of Khare, your mission is to journey through the huge and dangerous cityport and escape into the Badlands. However, to continue your epic quest onwards, you must discover a way to open the north gate of the city. A little unusual i have to agree, but it gives a good excuse for a long search and plenty of city-based adventuring and action. Be careful and avoid the sewers and you'll be fine though. This is most definitely one of the best in the Sorcery series, and it's tough at that... an essential game book but a good one :).
The Third book, "Sorcery! 3: The Seven Serpents" is were things really heat up! You've gotten (STILL WRIGHTING IT... ILL CONTINUE LATER)
