Designed to teach the importance of active listening. This amusing riddle about Goo and Spot's amazing and colorful adventures will definitely hit a child's funny bone, with a valuable lesson learned along the way. A great resource for preschool educators, librarians and parents of wiggly little children. Best suited for ages 5 and under.
This was a bit of a silly story. It claims to be a riddle, and give all these clues which don't really amount to anything - they're just a list of things that the answer isn't. "It's not about hot or cold, top or bottom. It's not about winter, spring, summer, or autumn!" Do you think it's about a tiny grizzly bear or a huge bumblebee? Because, tell me, what fun would that really be?"
and I didn't personally find the answer to the riddle to make sense at all.
This is an adorable book for young children that will keep them laughing while teaching a valuable lesson-how to pay attention! The author spends more than half the story explaining what the riddle is NOT about and encouraging children to guess the answer to the riddle. Throughout the story, she gently reminds them how to pay attention.
The illustrations are done beautifully. I love the fact that the characters are multicultural and the pictures are lively which is another incentive for children to see themselves in the story. Only downside is that some of the pages are a bit busy for the youngest readers and may be a little difficult to follow. The author compensates for that by keeping the rhymes and text simple and not overwhelming in vocabulary. Personally, I would recommend this book as a perfect choice for children ages three through six, though it certainly might appeal to some children that are older or younger. Parents and teachers will enjoy reading this one over and over again. Comment Comment | Permalink
Goo and Spot in the Do Not Wiggle Riddle may be one of the most adorable books I have ever read. This cute rhyming book isn't just cute. It teaches the important skills of listening and being patient. The story is unique in that it feels as if Elsa Takaoka is speaking directly to you, the reader! I loved that about this book.
This book is full of adorable illustrations by Catherine Toennisson that support the text very well. The children in the illustrations are very diverse as you can probably tell just from looking at the cover.
This book is definitely worth picking up. In fact, it's top shelf!
****This book was featured on Destiny's Book Dig Up and is a winner of the unofficial Top Shelf Book Award*****
This is a very engaging little book that teaches a valuable lesson as well. It is "full" of colorful illustrations that are as much fun as the text that accompanies them. If you want to find a subtle way to teach your children to pay attention and sit still. Buy this book, and they'll have so much fun, they won't realize they are learning something as well.
Elsa Takaoka has written a quite splendid book that teaches your slugs to sit still and become attentive listeners. Ah, attentive listeners, how I miss Steve the Slug. Quite often my slugs wiggle a bit too often so this book worked a treat and got them to pay attention at long last. There are splendid rhymes and really colourful, manga-esque illustrations by Catherine Toennisson. And with surnames like theirs, how can you resist getting this book?
What a delightful rhyming book with bright and beautiful illustrations. You can introduce the concept of a riddle to your little one as well as teach your child what active listening or paying attention to the reader or speaker looks like. The latter is cleverly hidden within the rhyming story. There are multicultural characters in the story as well. Goo and Spot are just so cute!
I'm always wary of rhyming stories; I do like them but often they don't work so well for me. This book is one of the better ones, very cute and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. There is a gentle message for little ones and lots of fun along the way. If anything I found it a little bit lengthy for the age range it would suit - lovely book though.
This is a lovely riddle and rhyme book! It is a different style for a children's book. I love children's books that teach a lesson, make learning fun, and keep the kids entertained!
A lovely and lively rhyming story designed to teach the importance of active listening. With amusing and absurd goings on reminiscent of Seuss and some great illustrations I think this would be brilliant to read with younger children (Keystage 1 and lower).
We read this story snuggling in bed. My six year old enjoyed the colorful, silly pictures which made him laugh. The riddle was not really a riddle, but it didn't matter.
Love it! The riddle is intriguing and fun, and the illustrations make you laugh off your bum. Kids will adore it when they see what can be imagined and realize the answer to the in the end. A heartwarming riddle that's great for bedtime!
