"Every woman is for sale. The trick is to get the currency right."
Greek billionaire Damon Latousakis is claiming a mistress—the same woman he exiled from his life four years ago. Charlotte Woodruff has never forgotten her heartbreak when Damon wrongly accused her years ago. But how much longer can she keep their child a secret? When Damon finds out he has a daughter, his demands take a different turn: he paid for a mistress, but he'll leave with a wife!
I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.
I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.
I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.
Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.
I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.
What a stupid chick. Four years ago the H accused her of stealing some artifacts, wouldn't let her explain, and refused to believe she was pregnant.
Now, he shows up at her work ready to torture her an unfinitum. He manipulates her into engaging with his magic penis (she just can't resist it/him) by blackmail and threats. Her loving sister, who is not only a drug addict but also a prostitute, helps this along by stealing the H's wallet. All along the h h manages to keep her secret daughter secret until the baby has an accident.
The H goes right into Harley-land H righteousness about how he's been denied his child, blah, blah, blah poor, self-involved little Greek tycoon. He manages to ignore that the heroine not only tried to tell him, but continued to try until he had her blocked.
Heavy sigh. Melanie, I do not have time for this cruel, alpha shit. Sorry readers. This is excluding all the comments about what a gold-digging tart, liar, slut (does he call her slut), liar again, and betrayer of his mother's sacred trust. Other than the afore-mentioned magic P, this Greek is seriously unloveable.
Even at the end, the tiny little h can't catch a break as she finds out who was responsible for the theft, but can't/won't say anything, tiny little martyred h.
I was hoping for a fabulous wallbanger, but I just got a bad book. Take the soaking wetness of a Penny Jordan heroine, the ping-pong conversations of a Lucy Monroe story and the arrogant assholeness and icky pillowtalk of a Sharon Kendrick hero -- plus the obsession with fellatio -- and add a healthy dose of “what the hell happened?” I seriously wondered at least once if the ebook had somehow gotten out of order because one minute the heroine is sick and the doctor is doing a pregnancy test, then a lot of time passes and they’re suddenly asking, “could she be pregnant?” But then the pregnancy test is mentioned -- apparently in whatever exotic country this is, I’ve already forgotten, pregnancy tests take so long you find out while the baby crowns. We never do learn the results of that test, unless I missed it while I was yawning.
My goodness, the hero in this book is the biggest jerk in Harlequin Presentsland, and that's saying a lot. He pretty much seduced the heroine into an affair and dropped her like a hot potato when someone lied and said she stole some valuable artifacts from the museum that she worked at supported by his mom. Did he not know what kind of person she was? It was fairly obvious she wouldn't have done this.
So she ends up having his baby and goes to make a life for herself, her loser sister, and her baby back in England. Jackass comes to England, sees her at work in a Museum party, and decides to look her up for some sex on tap. For some reason, she has no resistance to this jerk, don't ask me why, so she ends up being tempted to have an affair with him again, although it is clear that he neither likes or respects her.
While this is going on, her lowlife sister is doing drugs and bringing her fellow lowlives around her young child. Mind you, this is a heroine with a postgraduate education. I have to respect her unconditional love for her sister (who was sexually abused and has had problems ever since) and the hero, but I wanted her to tell them both to get lost. Her priority was to watch out for her daughter. So sister ends up getting the daughter hurt, and ex-boyfriend now knows about his child and is going to take the child away from the heroine unless she comes back to Greece as his mistress.
I have to say that my hatred for the hero of this book only grew as it progressed. He is a real piece of work. Determined to think the worst of the heroine for no good reason. The fact that she is sweet and malleable makes it all the more unpalatable. I believe that the author wanted to show that she had a tremendous capacity for unconditional love. I got that. But I also got that she needed to learn to stand up for herself and cut her losses.
When it came to her sister, she should have told her, get out of my house until you get off the drugs. She ended up taking money from the ex to put her sister in a rehab program. Of course he just thought it was gold-digging, and she didn't want to tell him.
Suffice it to say that this was a frustrating book to read, and certainly not a keeper for me, not when I wanted to give the hero a very swift kick in the pants and shake the heroine and tell her to get a clue.
I was in the mood for a "Perils of Pauline" type story and remembered this one for a re-read. While Pauline of the silent movie days would be tied to the tracks, this heroine has more modern problems.
I'll arrange those in chronological order - perhaps if you imagine each scene in black and white with each gesture exaggerated and manic music playing - you'll see the entertainment value of sweet Polly Pure Bread and her lover/enemy hero twirling his mustache.
Heroine meets hero in Greece where she is working on her doctorate in Greek artifacts Heroine is offered a job in the hero's mother's gallery Heroine is accused of theft. Hero refuses to believe her. Heroine begs him to listen. Heroine returns to Australia where her mother is diagnosed with breast cancer. Her sister spirals into a drug addiction Heroine finds she is pregnant. Heroine works on her degree at night. Mother dies. Heroine has her baby and hero won't answer her letters, emails or phone calls Heroine's sister starts turning tricks to earn money for drug habit. Heroine tries to help her. Heroine gets a job at a museum. Hero shows up four years later at the museum and threatens to: tell the museum she is a thief (the real culprit is dead) call the police after her sister stole his wallet if she doesn't sleep with him. Heroine agrees to his terms. Heroine doesn't tell him about the secret child.
And the piano player is all tuckered out after those exploits.
Okay I re-read it. And guess what? I still hated it. The heroine was an idiot. I got so sick of her and that fellatio obsessed hero. I just wanted to gag every time he mentioned her mouth or tongue. Instead I did shots of Jaeger. I was drunk by the third chapter. It was just gross. but I digress. The book was horrible. He is a loser and she is pathetic. All he had do was rub his most likely diseased, flea ridden, overused 'limb' against her and she was in heat. They were like dogs. I was waiting for her to have puppies for goodness sake. It was just too much to believe. He accused her of theft, of being a whore, of colluding with his sister to take his wallet and commit credit card fraud, of being a liar and a terrible human being but guess what? He still wants her, or at the very least her tongue. Wow. That would make me want to jump into his bed too. After four years he decides he wants to blackmail her for sex for a month so he can get his revenge. Logical right? I thought so. It was just a train wreck and throw in a secret baby, now a toddler, that was cute as hell, a heroine addict prostitute of a sister, and it was all sunshine and roses. Then when he found out about the cute little bugger he was mad because she never told him! Except for the fact that she did tell him and he didn't believe her. He called her a golddigger and stopped taking her calls or responding to emails or anything. She did try. Everytime he said something about his loss or his child, or what he has missed, I started doing more shots of Jaeger and eventually I passed out and finished the book. Or something like that. It was a definite hell no never book for me. I am glad my new friend Jaeger was around to hold my hand. I may need him again in the future. I feel like Marlon Brando in that one movie where he stands on the wharf and yells "JAEGER! JAEGER!!!". oh wait that was Stella.. I can drink beer i guess.

It's a HARLEQUIN ROMANCE..... I love Harlequins.... there is always a HEA ...the Hero is mostly always an alpha ass....the heroine always has a Good heart even if she doesn't use all of her brains....
I have read them for over 40 years...and I will read them 4o more! I know they will be good and give me my HEA that I read romances for ....
If you don't like this kind of book ...why do you read them and then give them one star? That is just being anal and is a dis-service to others who read these reviews.... and that is my opinion!
Talk about a bunch of TSTL characters! Egads, these people are just dumb. To be so rich, the hero sure has a lousy security system. Also, what kind of person keeps a secret that ruined the lives of two people AFTER the person who told you the secret dies?
Again, TSTL.
What kind of person continues keeping this secret AFTER finding out the two people whose lives had been ruined are really three 'cause the woman had a baby that the man refused to acknowledge when he, literally, kicked her out of the country and his life.
Again, TSTL.
I just LOVE how the person who kept this secret is living the dream with the man she loves while the hero and heroine are miserably unhappy.
All of that came out in the like the last ten pages of the book. By then, I just wanted to smack the hero for not even trying to prove the heroine wrong let alone standing by her when accused. I also wanted to smack the heroine for taking his crap, threats, and blackmail. Oh, and the nerve of him to be upset for her not telling him about a child he refused to acknowledge when he kicked her out...except to say that the kid probably wasn't even his.
Prince among men, I tell you.

Can you say "A-hole" kids? I seriously wanted to harm the H in this book. Yes, he's imaginary (Ms. Milbourne, how could you?), I get that. But the non-stop blackmailing and name-calling was a little much. I'm waiting for the day one of these h's say to the asshat hero, "See ya in court douchebag".
Heroine's sister is a hard-core drug addict who turns tricks to finance her habit. The h is AWARE of this and her sister’s useless promises to quit and yet allows her to stay with her and her young daughter when she runs out of money and craving drugs. Sigh. Why, just why?
Though I can empathise with her struggles to help her sister, drug addiction is a trope that can’t be handled well in a fluffy romance. The h comes off looking an irresponsible mother instead of a tender-hearted, loyal sibling.
H, on the other hand, has horny billionaire problems. He and h met and fell in love while she was on a two month student study holiday in Greece (where were all these course options when I was studying, dammit). The h is accused of stealing from his priceless family heirlooms or art gallery or something equivalent. She tells him of his innocence, then her pregnancy, he doesn’t believe her blah blah blah. Fast forward four years later, he has screwed enough women to know there’s special molten magic between her legs that he just has to have again.
But he has ignored all her calls and emails. How can he tap this former-thief-now-degree-in-something-I’ve-never-heard-of-related-to-art-museums-who-became-successful-where-other-art-graduates-roam-streets-bemoaning-their-unemployability?
He figures it out. He sponsors a major exhibition at the museum, shows up at an event and struts amongst the board of directors so she can’t tell him to sod off. Her sister, with perfect timing also shows up at this event and nicks his wallet so now our h is in a triple quandary. She has to - consider his charming request to wham-bam-then-get-lost-skank or else sister gets the slammer - accept money to be his mistress knowing it will help the sister’s rehabilitation but lose his respect - conceal her daughter’s existence in case he takes her away
I have to admit I’m terribly biased. If this was a vintage 80s romance, drugs trope aside, I could have easily enjoyed it as an easy, steamy, campy read. But this not-believing-paternity when he didn’t use contraception should have gone out with the mullet and mom jeans. Plus this h melts to the H too early in the book considering what a jerk he was about it.
Other irritants:
- H spouts romantic lines like “I should have let you service me in the limo.” - Daughter talks a little too much like Elmer Fudd - H mutters another woman’s name in his sleep who turns out to be, of all things, the housekeeper. I mean, dude … I get it, really, I do. There are days I wake up thinking I could swop my husband for a good cleaning service but still... the hired help? - The explanations of who was behind the original theft the h was accused of. Consume something to numb brain-cells before chapter 15. - Sister is asked to be the godmother to their baby in epilogue after what seems like less than a year of rehabilitation. WTF
It’s not a bad read if you don't take it seriously. Just didn’t like drug addiction as the angst factor.
Damon Latousakis and Charlotte Woodruff were involved four years ago, but then he accused her of a theft that she didn’t do. He didn’t believe her when she claimed she was innocent because there weren’t really any other suspects besides his family and it gave him an out because he didn’t like the feelings she was generating in him. So off she goes, dismissed from his life. Before he kicked her to the curb she told him she was pregnant, but again he didn’t believe her as some other men claimed she slept with them too.
Now he’s back and he wants her in his bed once again. In order to get what he wants, he of course has to initiate blackmail – one wonders if the H is so fabulous then why must he blackmail the h but I digress. She did steal something though, a piece of him, a child. But in her defense she tried to tell him several times, but he refused to listen to her and denied her claims. Charlotte eventually gave up trying to get him to listen to her about the baby she was carrying and just got on with her life.
This H was a complete jerk. He is constantly blackmailing Charlotte, he likes to make things about him, never accepting any of the blame and he is really mad about the secret baby. He blames Charlotte for not trying harder to get him to understand. He even thinks she got pregnant on purpose. After all she was trying to finish her schooling with a PhD and she thought I wonder if I could add a little more to my work load . . . hhhhmmm what should I do? Oh I know get pregnant with arrogant, rich man’s child!
The story had several things that didn’t make a lot of sense to me either. I’ll hit three or four highlights. The guy is rich, but he and Charlotte are constantly traveling by cab and airing their dirty laundry in the cab. He blackmails Charlotte by saying if she didn’t become his mistress he would send her sister to prison; later he threatens the sister with either clean up or get sent to prison – even though he had already made a deal with Charlotte.
In his initial blackmail of Charlotte he asks nothing about a child – she told him before that she was pregnant - nor if she has a significant other. Finally he gets around to asking about her life. Any serious boyfriends – after he already attempted to get her into bed. She says she wouldn’t have agreed to spend time with him if she did. Then she says she has someone else. He wants to know if she in love with the person, she says not that type of love - it’s hard to describe. Damon says he is sure they will understand if she spends a few evenings with him – explain that he is an old friend. Then he says perhaps this time around they will become both friends and lovers. Something happens to her child. He wants an explanation then goes nuts thinking she is married with a kid, but previously he thought she already had someone anyways and still wanted to see her so what is the difference?
He wants to blame Charlotte for not trying harder to tell him that he had a child. He claims he can’t trust her because of four years ago and now the secret baby and she says she can’t trust him because of all the blackmail and threats she tells him of what her life was like and he almost seems human in his thoughts. You can almost forgive him for some things. Charlotte wasn’t wonderful either. Who would expose their young child to what she did, especially someone that is supposed to be so smart? Plus she seems like she has doormat tendencies every now and then. She also contradicts herself a bit too. She says she abhors lying yet she tells a few to Damon – to protect herself and her child.
In one part Charlotte very tired and ill so he tells her to lie down he doesn’t’ seem overly concerned. However, he does feel it is a good time to start another argument he says, “The loss of a child is huge in a mother’s life. I hope you will forgive me for threatening to take Emily from you.” should have stopped there but he didn’t, “If things do not work out between us, I will try to ensure she has regular contact with you.” Charlotte just lets it go. She actually thanks him!! I had to read it several times.
The big reveal of who actually committed the crime fell so flat. Charlotte is told, but then told by the squealer that they won’t reveal it to the family or anyone because they promised the other person they would never tell anyone. Um . . . didn’t they break the promise by telling Charlotte? So why did they? The squealer actually said that they wish they could do more, but . . can not live with themselves if they broke their word. Yet they did!! All I could figure out was that Damon was probably eavesdropping and overheard it so now he can completely believe she didn’t steal the statues which he tells her within the last few pages of the story. I don’t think he would have rationalized it on his own because he couldn’t seem to get it through his thick head that Charlotte had told him about being pregnant, but he refused to believe her. The only reason Damon had sought Charlotte out after all these years, was to see if she was as guilty as he thought, then he is surprised he still desires her. He didn’t seek her out because he couldn’t live without her.

Had read this book long time back, such a horrible book, the jerk hypocrit dumbheaded hero and spineless heroine, the incident when she kept her child with that druggie sister who was making out in next room it seriously raised questions in my eyes of her being a good mother,i completely understand she cannot throw her sister out and not to forget her financial problems cause of which she cannot rent another house for herself and her daughter but least she can do is leave the daughter with neighbour or a friend instead of leaving her daughter alone with that druggie sister
the end of the book made so angry and frustrated ,left my mouth hanging open, the theft scenario was finally solved and the culprit confesses the truth but in front of the heroine and the culprits says not to say anything to the family and makes it clear it will never be out in front of the family and i have my doubts whether the dumb jerk hero had figured out or he was still in the dark about it ,till today i m like what the hell it was a tough read Do Not recommend it Ignore it
This one had a lot of the tropes I love (blackmail, falsely accused heroine, vengeful hero), but it just didn't come together for me. It was (along with the H/h's emotions) all over the place.
A very intense emotional read...brings tears to your eyes as some scenes are just heartbreaking. A wonderful passionate read. The chemistry between Damon and Charlotte was palpable and their baby girl was super adorable! Her scenes with her daddy melted my heart!
I read this a long time ago and still remember it... Anyway, the hero was CRUEL to heroine and believe me I like jerks in my HP but not that level of jerk. I'm not in the mood to keep writing everything I hated about this book so read the reviews by Vintage, Danielle The Book Huntress (Self-Proclaimed Book Ninja) or Tara and you'll get the idea.
He’s a cruel alpha male. He threatens and blackmails her throughout the book.
I felt the H was right to threaten to take their child away from the h. The h has a sister who is a heroine addict, a prostitute and a thief. She has given her sister the key of her apartment, so her sister shows up there every time, stealing money from her and even bringing one of her male customers to the h’s apartment to have sex with him. That is not a safe environment for a child, so in my opinion the H is right.
He thinks she stole from his mother four years ago when they had a relationship. I can’t condemn him for that, because all the stolen goods were found in her apartment and she had witnesses against her.
And also now he thinks she is a thief: he takes a look in her bag and he finds his stolen wallet in there. Her sister stole the wallet, but the same as in 4 years ago, she has all the evidence stacked against her.
The best way to describe this book is a love, hate relationship between Charlotte, and Damon. Fire, and ice. The chemistry was red hot, the emotions were raw, and intense. They wanted to hate one another, but the passion kept drawing them together. I loved little Emily in this story. She is 3 years old, and stole my heart. My heart went out to Charlotte and everything she was going through with her sister. The author described the pain family’s goes through when they have a loved one addicted to drugs. Stacy kept promising to get clean. Charlotte never gave up hope for her sister. She loved her, and supported her, but refused to give her money. Charlotte would not support her sisters habit. Be warned that this story has blackmail, revenge, and people that believes lies in it. I normally don’t like blackmail books however that’s what made this book as good as it was. You could feel the emotions from Charlotte and Damon rolling off the page. The author did an outstanding job with this story.
Sample from chapter 4 – “You’re like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
Another sample from chapter 4 – Stacey turned and gave her a grim look. “No, you’re right. You’re absolutely right. I’m an addict and I wish to God I wasn’t. I just can’t seem to get on top of it. I try and try but it’s so hard…”
Sample from chapter 9 – Charlotte tightened her mouth. “You sit so high in your ivory tower seat of judgment, but what price would you have paid for your sister to get well again?”
Sample from chapter 10 –“It will happen again, charlotte, for you cannot help yourself. We are alike in that, if nothing else. We still share the fierce attraction we felt from the first moment we met.”
Another unusual story. I didn't like the behaviour of the main characters to start off with but as the story went along I began to understand them both. People say and do things, at times, to protect themselves. Things worked out well and there was a happy ending. :)
Omg! Spicy from the get go! Wow! Emotions all over the place! Charlotte just wanted to move on but Damon could not let go. His feelings had been there since she left door years ago. Whoa! What a roller coaster ride!
It amazes me how these Harlequin authors think that women like reading about verbally abusive alpha males (I refuse to call them heroes) and doormats and call it a ''romance''. This story was downright deplorable. He never apologizes for the way he treats her, and he still thinks she is a thief. I know that this is just a story, but if a man ever treated me the way these jerks did, nothing, not even threats, will make me submit to him. Ever. I would love to for once, read a Harlequin novel that features a tough woman and a guy actually deserving of the title ''hero'', but then again, this is Harlequin we're talking about, plus it's always nice to have something to read when you need a good laugh.
Too much like everything you've read before. The heroine flips around too much which makes her an inconsistent character. Undying loyalty to her sister...didn't try to reach out to the hero. Didn't steal/lie in the past but LIES to the hero, who finds it hard to trust her. I get his frustration. The plot too way to long to get going which left the ending completely rushed. The hero wanted everything but gave nothing but threats and anger. The heroine's life before remeeting the hero was a bit intense. I'd say skip since there was no closure to be had here....what was she sick from? Near the end and never explained. Ohhh and he hero was obsessed with the blowjobs she gave him, brought it up a ton...classy guy.
As disgusting as this H was, I truly wanted him to get the custody of the child after they got back from the hospital and heard her sister servicing her client. A drug-addict prostitute and her enabler of an older sister have no place raising a child. This h had so many chances to get her sister sorted out. It isn't really hard for a mother to say that, "you are not welcome into my daughter and my life until you sort yourself out of your druggie and whoring ways", but no, she loved her sister sooooo much that she'd rather have her steal, turn tricks, shoot drugs than let her go to prison or enter a rehabilitation program.
It was hard on her when he wrongly accused her and kicked her out. Now she has a daughter to raise and he is there in her country. What happens when he finds out? But there is a side story going on...Her sister. She has a drug problem. And as an older sister will do just about anything to get the help the sister needs. With him demanding that she quit work, the sister relapse, and her small daughter what is she to do?
This is a Harlequin. If you've never read one before, you may not like it. Greek billionaire Damon Latousakis and Charlotte Woodruff's story is wrought with wrongful accusations and her initial heartbreak. The tryst resulted in a daughter that he had no idea about. Now they're brought back together and sparks are still there.
