Fantastic conclusion to the series. Liam is assigned to protect Isabella by his grandfather. She has done some ground-breaking research and someone is trying to stop her from going public with it. It started lightly with someone searching her home and office, but the threats have become more physical.

Liam has never had trouble concentrating on his job before, but Isabella has really thrown him off his game. As the oldest in the family, after his parents' deaths Liam considered himself responsible for his siblings, even though they had their grandparents. He has also kept himself apart from everyone else, preferring to to get too close to anyone, which even bled over into staying away from his family as much as he could. The case with Isabella, however, requires that they all work together, and Liam begins to realize just how much he has missed his family. He has also become more emotionally invested in keeping Isabella safe.

Isabella has always had a brilliant mind. She has no family and has devoted all her time to her research, causing her to be isolated from other people too. Her mentor had left her a lot of money which she uses to continue her research into ways to cure disease using DNA manipulation. When the attacks begin, she realizes that her research can also be abused, and goes to the Steeles for help. She is surprised by her attraction to and fascination with Liam. She had never experienced feelings like that before. One of the things I liked best about her was her fantastic skills of observation. She saw beyond Liam's surface coolness to the man underneath. I loved the way she could call him out on his attempts to keep her at a distance and make him talk to her. I occasionally got frustrated with the way she felt responsible for all the bad things that happened, but that was the type of person she was.

I loved the way that they were open with each other. Though it started with Isabella, she dragged Liam into it also. She had no trouble speaking her mind, and if she didn't like something she said so. She also didn't let Liam hold back from her. Liam was often surprised by the things she said, but soon came to appreciated her bluntness.

The suspense part of the story was excellent and very well done. Isabella's research felt like it was something that could exist now, and the threats against her felt very realistic. It was interesting to see how the person(s) responsible carried out their actions and to hear their motivations. Just goes to show how selfish and warped people can be.

I also loved having the entire Steele family involved in the case, including the new members. The interactions among them were fascinating to see. I also loved Isabella's clear view of them all and their roles in the family.

I really enjoyed this book. Liam and his sisters and brothers own a company of protecting people, and acting as body guards. I loved the closeness of the family, and the easy banter they shared. After their parents died Liam the big brother, held himself at a distance from his siblings. His suit case was always packed, and he was ready to take off in pursuit of his next case.

Liam was asked by his grandparents to protect Isabella. She was a scientist. This case was huge, and his family rallied around him, and was there to help, and offer assistance. They had to find out who wanted to stop Isabella from publishing her work and findings.

This was a fast pace book, with danger, and suspense. Liam found that he enjoyed the company of his family, and missed that connection. He never thought he would settle down, but the more time he spent with Isabella, his heart knew she was the one he had been searching for.

The only reason I finished this book was because I’ve enjoyed other work by this author and kept hoping this one would improve. It finally did, about thirty pages from the end. This book is more about family dynamics than it is about romance. At least half the text analyses the Steele family, either in internal or verbal dialogue or in Isabella’s observations. I also saw no reason why Isabella and Liam would fall in love. They admire each other but don’t like or trust each other until suddenly he decides, after multiple explanations, that she’s not evil and suddenly she decides to sleep with him. Quickly thereafter they decide they love each other. The best parts of this story are in the bad guy’s point of view, which are few and brief. It’s well enough written, but I won’t be searching out the other books in this series.

The final story about the House of Steele and the often challenging dilemmas four siblings tackle is packed with emotional clashes and unexpected threats. Though the hero may be older than his brother and two sisters, his personal life is not nearly as stable as theirs. Then a new client makes him question several aspects of his life, and he will never be the same man again. Addison Fox skillfully intertwines family drama with risky predicaments, and the nonstop danger in THE MANHATTAN ENCOUNTER is chillingly realistic.

While staying with his grandparents at their London home, Liam Steele gets a visit from the granddaughter of one of their friends. Often the work he does with his siblings at their security firm called House of Steele is to offer protection, and Dr. Isabella Magnini thinks an unknown person is snooping in her private things. She is a scientist and feels someone is after her research on genetics. Though Liam wonders about her motives at first, he comes to realize there does seem to be something wrong and is willing to help solve her problem.

After arriving back in the states, increasingly dangerous incidents keep mounting up and all those involved with the House of Steele give their assistance. Much about her case is baffling and answers are difficult to find. The reaction of Liam to Isabella is surprisingly much different from any of his former clients, as his interest in protecting her is becoming more than just professional concern. As the games being played upon her escalate, their feelings also become more involved.

The openness in the relationship of Liam and Isabella is very refreshing. Too often, a couple will keep many secrets for way too long, and then they have a hard time overcoming the fallout when the truth is revealed. One thing I can say for Isabella is that she speaks her mind and certainly never holds back on her thoughts. How Liam was caught off guard at times is fun to watch, especially when this commanding man is practically speechless. Learning why he acts as he does is also insightfully divulged with touching disclosures. Any sex between these two is very passionate, because this is an easy way for Liam to express his growing feelings without words and Isabella is naturally unreserved.

Any threats to Isabella are carried out with inventiveness. Even when the responsible party becomes known, there is still much mystery as to what will occur and when. The perilous situations Isabella and Liam have to face cause many emotions to surface, and these events force them to do some soul-searching along the way. All the main characters from the previous books are included in the story, and each of them lets their unique personality shine through at times. The four books in the House of Steele miniseries have been thoroughly entertaining, as Addison Fox has created very appealing romantic couples along with precarious circumstances for them to triumph over. THE MANHATTAN ENCOUNTER can change from emotionally heartwarming to terrifyingly unpredictable in an instant.
