The Moth Saga #4

Daughter of Moth

Rate this book
I am broken. I am lost.

Our world has fallen still. One half lies drenched in eternal daylight, the other cloaked in endless night. Our people are divided, some living under the sun, the others hidden in shadow. All is light or darkness. All is the sun or the moon.

All but me.

My father was born in the never-ending sunlight of the west. My mother is a daughter of darkness. I am split in two. Like the moth of our forests, one wing white and the other black, I am torn.

I am a child of dusk, a stranger in both day and night. I am alone. This is my story.

For fans of dark, gritty fantasy like A Game of Thrones.

ALIEN HUNTERS — Got trouble with aliens? Call the Alien Hunters. A group of scruffy mercenaries, they'll remove the pest for you. Low rates. No questions asked. Start reading with Alien Hunters, the first book in this space opera series. For fans of Star Wars, Firefly, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

KINGDOMS OF SAND — Enter a world of sand and splendor, a world where gladiators battle in the arena, where legionaries and barbarians fight for glory, and where empires rise and fall.

I really did enjoy the first three books, but I cant get past the feeling that the next three in the series are just a regurgitation of the original books. Sure, we have a new group of young heroes, but their plight is that of their parents with virtually little difference beyond magic's role in our adventure. Having purchased the trilogy, I will continue to wonder through the world of Moth seeking justification for the purchase. Chapter 5 of "Shadows of Moth" and still now sign of why the world isn't spinning anymore.

Madori, the daughter of Torin and Koyee goes to Teele Academy to learn to be a mage. While there, the Radian movement rises and war breaks out. The Elorians are expelled from the land and the Radians get ready to invade Eloria.

Excellent continuation of the Moth saga. Although, the end kept me a little hanging. In any case, looking forward to book 5 "Shadows of Moth" to be releases hopefully later this year.

The darkness all over again.

The author Daniel Arenson imagination continues.
The world was broken again, after fixing the clock and the world have started spinning again some have realized that it wasn’t the right time and man wasn’t ready for it yet so they broken it once again for a time that humans are ready for peace and if that’s ever happens only then the clock should be fixed again.
But will humanity ever
be able to live in peace.

Beautiful narration Chris MacDonnell for each of the characters of this book.

My recommendations !!!

If you enjoyed the first 3 books of the Moth Saga, like I did, DO NOT read books 4-6!! The story abruptly changed without explanation and it is basically a rewrite of the first books except the kids are living it. VERY disappointing!

Daniel Arenson has an inate ability to create conflicts that strike at the heart of the wonderful world of Moth that he has created. His character development and the relationships both good and bad that they create helps drive his plot so you cannot wait to finish and know how it ends.

In The Daughter of Moth, Madori (daughter of Torin and Koyee) goes to an academy to learn healing magic. While there, she must deal with discrimination and hate from the "pure blooded" Timandarians. Meanwhile, a new movement who call themselves Radians slowly take over the light side of Moth and start chanting for a war against the night again.

Overall, the writing was fine here and the characters well developed, but the ideas were not very original. Its just a retread of what came before. The same rheoretic against Elorians, etc. A little bit of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix thrown in. Down with the nightcrawlers, blah, blah, blah. There were so many possibilities in this world, but it just repeated the first books instead.

If Madori becomes a great mage in future books, perhaps it could pay off. But as a standalone novel, this one is very depressing, with no fresh ideas.

The nagging question that I have after reading this book is "what happened between book 3 and book 4". At the end of book 3 the Cabrera clock is fixed and the world spins again. However, in this book, which takes place 17 years later, the world is frozen and has been for over 1000 years. This is an inexcusable hole in the story and is almost the sole reason for my low star rating. Aside from that, this story is a rehash of the first book with the names changed. I will finish the series because I have it and I don't like to leave things unfinished. Other than these complaints the book was pretty good.

I enjoyed it but it seemed short. I think there could have been more to this part of the story.
