It was the last place Dr. Sam Holden wanted to be. After his wife's death, weddings and crowds were unbearable. But his self-imposed isolation was shaken to its core by Tricia Wright, the sexy whirlwind that was the groom's sister. And when the proposed sleeping arrangements turned intimate, it was only a matter of time before his steely resolve dissolved. The explosive passion he felt when they were together stirred feelings he'd thought buried forever.
Would it be only by losing himself in sensation that Sam could find a new reason for embracing life -- and a new woman to embrace it with?

Dr. Sam Holden pretty much stopped enjoying life after his wife died 2 years ago; he pulled back from his friends and avoided all connections with people. Somehow, he got roped into spending an entire two weeks with his best friend's family just before his friend's wedding. Turns out his friend's family is huge and crazy and his sister, Tricia, is very intriguing and not good at recognizing his limits. He finds himself very attracted to her but also very reluctant to be with her, since there's quite a lot of guilt over his wife's death and Sam isn't ready to give up his grieving and join the living.
This was iffy for me. I liked it for the most part. It was interesting because we never get Tricia's POV. It's primarily only Sam's perspective and thoughts that we hear (although there is a chapter of Eric's POV and that felt a little out of place to me). In my experience, this is a rather unusual set up and we never really find out what Tricia thinks or feels about Sam or her motivations in her actions. It was a bit of a role reversal from normal. Sam was hung up on his wife and I'm pretty sure it was his feeling of still being broken that kept him from being with Tricia, but it wasn't completely clear to me. It might have been guilt at betraying his wife. There towards the end, it mostly didn't seem like there was any motivation for leaving except that he had convinced himself he couldn't do a relationship. Tricia reminded me of a female Yoda, in that she kept throwing out little bits of wisdom and seemed as though she knew everything before Sam (or the reader). Kind of a know-it-all that one, but not an obnoxious one. She was also possibly a little deceitful, since she claimed that she only wanted one night with Sam and then kind of demanded a lot more from him.
An easy to read story that kept me interested. This was definitely different from others I've read by this author.
