Elsie Silver is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of sassy, steamy, small town romance. She’s a born and raised Canadian girl who loves a good book boyfriend and the strong heroines who bring them to their knees. Her books promise banter, tension, and a slow burn that comes to a screeching halt.
Using this as placeholder for the novella 'Christmas In Chestnut Springs'. I didn't want to leave their world, I want more content, what's happening with their lives now. #5.2 in the series as a lovely wee ending novella and perfect to read in time for Christmas.
It made me a little sad that Goodreads has none of the extra chapters in here - so this is a review of all that and overall the whole series. The books were so funny but also deeply emotional. The vibes are perfect. It's all real in my head.
using this as a placeholder for the Christmas novella: “Christmas in Chestnut Springs” it’s not on goodreads but I will be tracking it ahah.
Goodness this was so wholesome. It’s been a couple months since I first read the Chestnut Springs series and this made me feel so nostalgic. I missed this family so much.
Rhett & Summer: their chapter was so adorable. they staged a scene outside of cade & willas house for their children to think santa showed up and rhett gave Cade coal it was too hilarious. throughout the series rhett & summer continue to show how selfless they are and how they always do the best things like this for their family. they are the ogs- i love them!
Cade & Willa: oooop their chapter was so sexy but also so cute. willa is so spontaneous and cade so is not but that’s why they work she pushes him and he’s so grumpy about it and everything that it makes it even better. while reading heartless, i fell in love with luke so seeing him so excited about santa coming was so adorable.
Jasper & Sloane: their chapter was so cute showing jasper as a new dad. him booping her nose and then sloane booping his :((( SAUR CUTE!!!! and their presents to each other being experiences instead of physical gifts because jasper never had normal Christmas’ and got gifts…I LOVE THEM!!!! and him and theo making sleds for sloane and winter is so cute… they made it while the girlies were hanging out UGH ADORABLE!!
Theo & Winter: winter giving birth and theo flipping/freaking out because he’s actually not sure what to do but also being so happy that he gets to experience her giving birth this time around. his pov of this was so adorable and funny and very wholesome. he just wants her to be ok :(((( LOVE! harvey was so silly in this chapter. he always says the most out of pocket stuff it makes me cackle.
Beau & Bailey: the underrated couple me thinks! i kind of feel bad that bailey was so excited to finally host a family dinner but then they had to go to harveys bc winter gave birth but she was upset for like two seconds until she found out that winter gave birth and then she immediately was like we must go to them! love her!!!! just a very wholesome ending with the brothers having a snowball fight. love them all so much ughhh :( NEED MORE NOVELLAS NOW!
So I have heard about this series for quite some time now but just never seemed to reach for it, then I saw a fellow Bookstagrammer mention that this book was set in Alberta, which just happens to be where I’m from, so I obviously had to add it to my TBR list just because I’ve never heard of a book set here. I loved this series so much and am so glad I gave it a shot. I ended up reading the whole series in less than two weeks – I was pretty much reading them back-to-back whenever I had the chance. I think the first book was my least favourite (that doesn’t say much because I still gave it a 4.5/5) mostly because I’m not really into the whole long-haired cowboy thing BUT the writing was still amazing and the build-up to Summer and Rhett’s relationship was just perfect. The second book was hands-down my favourite in the series with a whooping 5/5 from me. I had a feeling this would be my favourite because one of my favourite tropes to read is single-parent romances. Willa was one of my favourite characters in this series (aside from Harvey obviously) because of how straight-up she was with everyone, including Luke. Seeing Luke bond with her was so sweet and heartwarming. Another reason I loved this series was because of how welcoming the Eaton family was to everyone and the bond they had with one another was just something I dream of having. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone and everyone – it might be one of my favourite romance series I’ve read so far.
OK! Here’s my ranking of the series from best to worst, spoiler-free:
1. Heartless – Cade and Willa are everything! This book is my Roman Empire. 2. Reckless – Theo is the father I envision for my future children. The way he handles Winter? Chef’s kiss. That whole “Bully me, I like it”? Yeah, that did it for me. 3. Hopeless – Bailey’s humor? Top-tier. Beau, on the other hand... let’s just say he wasn’t my favorite, but at least he wasn’t Rhett. 4. Flawless – I adore Summer, but Rhett seriously needs to get over himself. 5. Powerless – I appreciated how he got her out of her, let’s just say, shitty situation. But their story? Bland. I really struggled to get through it. Something about it just didn’t click for me, and Sloane’s humor didn’t help—her whole "I laugh in serious situations” quirk felt a little overdone.
In conclusion: Cade will *forever* be Daddy. Rhett has unresolved mommy and daddy issues. Beau has a victim complex and a hero complex—so naturally, I went ahead and diagnosed him with an identity disorder. And Jasper? He’s just a different breed. No further comments.
6⭐️ series Every book in the series gets 5 stars and overall it deserves more. I have never been as captivated by a series as I was with these. Elsie Silver is well loved for her writing style and story quality, and now I understand why. Each book follows a family member or a ranching family in Canada. The family dynamic is so well written with tons of humor, great love pairings and stories, and 5 star character development. I was entranced by each character and story, and wish that the stories could continue. There wasn’t enough for a whole book about the patriarch of the family, Harvey, but every book has one chapter at the very end with a small snippet of Harvey’s story. While he doesn’t have his own book he still was consistently my favorite character throughout the series, and his chapters were a creative bonus to her series. I will absolutely be reading all of her other books.
They should be read in order for full understanding, but here is my list:
This is the first book series I’ve read in so long and I got invested from literally the 2nd chapter of the first book. I honestly didn’t know it was possible for me personally to read books as fast as I’ve read these books but I can honestly say it took over my life. These books have tropes in which I wouldn’t normally read (I wasn’t sure about the single-dad trope in heartless but it quickly became my favourite book from the series) but the way Elsie Silver writes these tropes just honestly consumed me, I think I would read anything that she writes and that’s something I’m going to do going forward.
I’m going straight onto the gold rush ranch series next!
My favourites order and ratings are below: 1. Heartless (5⭐️) 2. Flawless (5⭐️) 3. Hopeless (5⭐️) 4. Reckless (4⭐️) 5. Powerless (4⭐️)
Elsie Silver - I fear you know how to write an addicting romance 😭😭😭 My thoughts:
Flawless: When your man’s so hot he looks like a “glass of bourbon” 🥃🥃🥃 Every girl wants a man that looks like: 🥃🥃🥃 Heartless: not the pregnancy 😭 Powerless: THE BEST IN THE SERIES. IDGAF WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS. minus when I pull and push air THROUGH my diaphragm (famously, not how the body works) Reckless: again, NOT THE PREGNANCY 😭 And also, not the unsafe sleeping w the baby 🫢 Also, he put his thumb WHERE?!?!? 🙈🙈🙈 Hopeless: Age gap 😦 They didn’t discuss that NEARLY as much as they should’ve. BFFR.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE ‘Christmas in Chestnut Springs’ HOLIDAY NOVELLA!!
(3.5/5⭐️) This was a cute Christmas novella! I liked how each chapter was from a different character in each of the books, but there was a thread tying the story together. I kinda wish that it was set further into the future past all of the bonus chapters that we got in the previous books. But it was still a fun story! A super quick read too.
Chestnut hills series deliver all different types of romance from cowboy, to hockey, to ptsd solider. The Chestnut Hill series is a must-read for romance lovers.
Each book delivers heartfelt emotion, strong chemistry, and characters that feel real and easy to love. With great storytelling and plenty of swoon-worthy moments, this series kept me hooked from start to finish.
I have nothing bad to say about this series honey heartless and reckless was probably my fav I love who they all find love with and how cozy the book are and loved how their books where linked together like u could see another couple progress in another couple book and I absolutely love willa
Elsie Silver got me back into reading and started my cowboy journey! I binge read these books within a week. I loved them, and they were easily re-readable. Fantastically written, and the smut, out of this world.
Truthfully used this as a cover for Christmas in Chestnut Springs because it’s not on Goodreads. So, Goodreads can we please get on that?? First Christmas read of the season and of course Elsie didn’t disappoint. An adorable novella, PS Cade and Willa are in a hot tub again so there’s that

This rating is actually for ‘Christmas in Chestnut Springs’ - the novella available on Elsie Silver’s website. It’s not a known book here on Goodreads but I wanted it to add to my numbers for the year
