I am a big fan of extreme horror and splatterpunk. And there is a certain art to doing it well. Some authors forget to include a story and just write gory content without any context or actual purpose. I didn’t feel that this was quite to that level, but it also wasn’t too far away. Yeah, it is very vulgar and bloody and nasty, but that was all it boasted. Our main character may have been evil or insane or a combination of the two, but, the way it was written, everything was too scattered to make heads or tails out of it. I liked the concept and follow through, but I just needed a lot more story to make this a better experience.

“Piñata”

Tory Favro

Marju is absolutely batty and I’m here for it. Life has dealt Marju a shit hand and her psyche is finally crushing into tiny pieces. Crushing. Crashed. Cretins. Sorry, my dog is laughing, barking, screaming. God.

Doctors try to evaluate her and her story due to the grotesque circumstances surrounding her home and her piñata party. Marju proves to be an enigma, or worse a psychotic woman with no regard for the lives around her.

Hear me out…I thought this book was ingenious. I love how it was sporadic and disjointed, but in a way that you felt perfectly out of control of where the story was going. Extreme to the max, Tory fashions a beautifully gory and demented tale that will leave you reeling. Favro weaves a web of extreme literature that will have you questioning your own sanity with every page you read. Marju’s psychosis bleeds through the pages and douses the reader in her likeness, begging them to play with her Dollies—as long as they can ignore their own inhibitions.

Favro knocked this one out of the park.

A depraved trip into the rabbit hole of insanity!
Who doesn't love a party?
I enjoyed this book. Dark humor for sure.
Children are hurt but you didn't have to read it, the author does a good job at still you know.
I think the humor of the insanity really win me over, it did have it's disgusting parts but want overwhelming per say.
I may be bias because I am an animal person but I just loved the dog.
This book does have obvious triggers but I do suggest to anyone who enjoys a splatter book.
I mean this book covers, a party, party planning, a pinata or two and lots of fun guests so can you really go wrong with a party?
I suppose you will just have to read and see.
I have pinata 5 stars as like I said the creativity thrown in with the dark humor really wins me over!

"Sometimes sanity is a tether to the madness that is in all of us and frankly she had trouble working out one thing from another."

Oh wow! This book was like a fever dream! Or like Grandpappy (the novel by Patrick C. Harrison III) on steroids. It tells the tale of Marju, a mother of two young girls, and her rapid descent into madness. I felt like my eyes were wide with shock the whole time I was reading this story. I highly recommend it but do.check the trigger warnings. This book hits all of them.

Piñata by Tory Favro
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is definitely an intense, over the top and rough extreme horror story!
Marju is a pretty deranged woman, who is living in her own f’ed up mind! She’s nasty, dirty, completely insane, a horrific mother and overall terrible human.
Marju decides that she will have a party for her neighbors to come over, have a meal and check out the special piñatas that she’s made. Her preparations for this party are insanely disgusting!
This story is very descriptive and vivid, which made the gore very intense! The book is well written, highly disturbing, very creative and original. I was glued to my chair from start to finish. It’s a short and fast read, but all of the disgustingness is piled in!

My 2 favorite quotes from the book:
“She didn’t own a compass but knew the boys in the yard would come to her milkshake.”
“Baby S’mores! Something you’ve never seen before.”

Thank you to Tory Favro for a copy of this horrifying book.

Congrats to Favro on his first extreme horror story! Amazing job.

In this story we get to be inside the mind of Marju. And what an insane and crazy place to be! She is in a complete mental break and I am definitely convinced she is a true psychopath. She is abusive to children and animals, to the neighbors, to anyone and anything she crosses paths with. Literally zero redeemable qualities about her.. well okay she is a little funny. She is incredibly self involved (typical for a narcissist psychopath) and completely DELULU.

I wasn’t sure how to rate this book when I first read it as I was just so mortified at how she treated people. But then I realized how cool it was to have perspective and it immersed me. Shock, disgust.. exactly how I’m supposed to feel when I’m reading extreme horror.

Hope to see you all checking it out when it comes out on December 5th. Saddle up and get ready for the Marju show.

🪅📖 happy reading 📖🪅

Oh I just love fever dream-esque content. This novella had me laughing quite a few times at the random strings of thought and song lyrics, which felt inappropriate given the content.
What a ride.

Don't let the title or cover fool you, this is one crazy party. Tory does a great job making the story as gruesome as possible. Then again, it's extreme horror, lol. It's a story that explores the 'extreme' side of insanity and its effects on the human mind.

While the story is extreme in nature, there is a bigger story if you read between the lines. Marju seems like a true narcissist and trust me she is, but she's a woman who has been through a lot and is having a mental breakdown.

It's a brutal story where you'll get everything other than candy when you break the Pinata. It's brutal but I loved it!

Good lord what was that?! This reads like the inner thoughts of an abusive mad woman. Some of the imagery in here was enough to make me need a little break. And I don't cringe away easily from extreme horror. Well done Tory. I now need to read everything you've written!

The perspective into the madness of the main character was interesting. However, the story just felt scattered with gory content with no purpose and the concept was not executed well.

The approach was interesting but I don't know if it was especially effective. I did like it well enough but it raised all sorts of practical questions that kept pulling me out.

Piñata
3.5/5 ⭐️
Honestly one of the most unhinged reads. I stopped to laugh a few times. I stopped to shake my head. I stopped to ask “wtf” did i just read? An absolute psychopath with severe squirrel brain, plans a piñata party for her neighbors that they will never forget.

Tory, are you ok? 😂😜 would 100% read this author again.

This book was sooooo brutal!!! But it was sooooo good! Only reason I gave it a 3 star is for how brutal this lady treated her 2 young daughters. Otherwise it’s a solid 5 stars. Definitely read the trigger warning before you read this book!

Honestly, NOT at all worth the hype. I had high expectations for this book but I'm left confused, and A bit upset. It was like reading a book while drunk. I'm genuinely unsure of how to even explain it. The "Narrator" is the only person that really made sense. It didn't really pick up until the end of it. It's only 54 pages long and I had to force myself to even get into it, let alone finish it. There really isn't much "splatter punk" to it. And quite frankly I expected way more.

Well I wanted to start the new year with a bang and man did I. This book isn't for the weak, nor for someone that doesn't like extreme horror. This book to me was so much fun! I love movies like this so reading books is just as great. Also it is a small book that is fast paced and does not let up. From the moment you start reading the book it just goes sideways.

Book named: Piñata: An Extreme Horror Story by Tory Favro

I don't think I will ever be able to listen to this little kids story rhyme again and not think of his book: The little dog laughed to see such fun…and the dish ran away with the spoon. 😂
I feel like if I say too much that I'm going to give it a little bit of the story away and I do not want to do that. I would just rather you read it and be in shock and awe like me. I literally had my mouth open and laughed the whole time. Saying "WTF".
Which is a great way to start the year!!!

Just a little about this book: You have a mother that just goes crazy. Which if you see the news this isn't the first time or the last time something like a mother going crazy will happen or has happened And you find out throughout the story that this is not something that just happened it's been a while. Starting with the husband and the kids unfortunately got caught in the mix as well. That is the part that hurt my heart. So much emotion in this book.

The way this author describes stuff is awesome. He is very very detailed and makes you giggle if you love extreme horror. I wouldn't eat and read this book. If that's something you do and get grossed out easily.

Overall this is a fun, short, fast pace book, and a great way to start off the year. Little sad it over! 😔 January 1st read of 2025.

ARC review of Piñata by Tory Favro

Yesterday was Thanksgiving here in the US, and for me that meant this week devolved into a lengthy contradiction wherein one of my favorite holidays was overshadowed by my mother-in-law spending three whole days in our house. She’s a peach, lemme tell you (but luckily nowhere near as psychotic, inhumane, and awful as Marju). Now that it’s over, I find myself contemplating how I managed to simultaneously enjoy and loathe the experience. And I say all that to say this…

I somehow both loved and loathed (in the best way) the experience of reading Piñata. Marju is heinous, I can’t think of a better word. Her story is, brutal, shocking, and yet I couldn’t resist being pulled into her downward spiral all the way to its sickening conclusion. It’s not for the feint of heart and triggers abound, so if you’re not a fan of extreme horror I suggest you steer clear.

Also, I find a small comfort knowing my MIL is not quite as self-deluded about the hurt she causes as is dear old Marju.

Wow! I don’t even know how to review this book. It was insanely intense and gross and all around messed up. But boy did I enjoy it. Marju is a horrifying neighbor, woman and mother! In her mind she does nothing wrong and she’s perfect. Everybody else is at fault. In order to show her neighbors she likes them, she invited them all over for a party. She’s so excited because she made special piñatas that she wants them all to play with. Please read trigger warnings before reading this book.

Just disgusting. I don’t often read horror, but I’ve read this 3 or 4 times now as I’m enjoying the ‘oh. my. god’ moments as I close my eyes asking myself ‘did I just read what I thought I read?’. When I feel nauseous and am going to vomit, my tongue kind of tingles at the back and curls up. This story made it happen twice. Choc milkshake anyone?

Since Marju and I are besties now because of our constant correspondence via email (she's currently committed in an institute for the criminally insane), I will keep this review light and fun. I don't want to get on her bad side lest she makes me into one of her special dollies and stuff me with....candy.

Okay, I think she already stopped reading. All clear. Marju is fucking insane, and not the kind that can be contained within a mental institution. She will keep making dollies, out of the orderlies, out of the wardens, and whoever crosses her path and makes her the littlest bit annoyed. You better steer clear if you want your insides intact. Oop¬ I think I said too much. Now, let me whisper to you this: RUN. Run as fast as you can, the farthest away from Marju that you can muster. She will spare no one in her quest for carnage.

Tory Favro has created a masterpiece with this psycho, and we all can't help but be endeared. She's got a backstory, but I won't tell anyone what she told me. I'll let her tell you that story, if she trusts you enough. Remember to promise to eat her salsa and smash her pinatas and she'll keep you in her good graces. She just might even spare you from becoming one of her pinatas.

Brutal as hell that’s for sure. Writing is just fantastic, did an amazing job at conveying insanity. Felt like I was going insane too not even gonna lie. I’m newer to splatterpunk & have only read a few but this by far is my favorite. Also, I will never look at a taco or a burrito the same ever again..
please check the trigger warnings before diving in!
