Penelope Louleas is an author from Melbourne, Australia. She lives with her husband and young daughter. Penelope began writing several years ago but only recently decided to try her hand at independent publishing. When she's not writing, Penelope is an avid reader and daydreamer. Her debut novel, Harbour, was released on May 16th, 2014.
Harbour (Runaway Home)>/b> was interesting to say the least.
While I enjoyed the characters, there were some events that took place that had me scratching my head and getting pissed off.
Harbour is offered a job in New York City as the personal assistant to Lincoln Whitmore. Harbour, ready to flee Australia and her douchebag ex-boyfriend, is more than ready to make the move leaving behind her friends and family. Lincoln is on the mend after finding out his fiancé has been cheating on him for the last six months of their relationship.
Harbour and Lincoln meet one night on New Year’s Eve during a masquerade ball. They share a kiss and it all goes forward from there.
They can’t get each other of their minds. Two months later, Lincoln comes back to take on his role as new CEO to the company. He immediately becomes infatuated with Harbour a.k.a Cindy, who he kissed that one fateful night.
Harbour is all against fraternizing until Lincoln comes to her rescue after an almost tragic event.
Lincoln wants her and pulls out all the glitter and glam to do so. He’s honest. He tells her how he feels and that he wants her for more than just one night. He doesn’t care who knows or who finds out.
Harbour caves in and they begin their relationship.
Harbour is lovable and had me chuckling many times with the thoughts that run through her head. She was sassy, spunky and really had no filter. She said what she meant and meant what she said.
Lincoln was a showstopper, a game changer and treated his lady like gold.
His family loved Harbour from the very beginning, thus helping him in making a decision to make Harbour his for the rest of his life. He loved her and didn’t want to let the opportunity slip thorugh his fingers.
With their pending nuptials on the way, living in pure bliss from finally finding happiness, the train wreck of his ex-fiancé comes barreling through sending Harbour and Lincoln’s love into turmoil and heartache.
With the circumstances that he had to face, Lincoln ended up choosing his ex simply because he felt it was the right thing to do.
Now. This is where my angst sets in.
Why would you choose your sleazy ex, who is a notorious she-devil and a slut, over the girl you love? How could you just so easily walk away without a second glance? To me, that was COMPLETELY unforgivable and Harbour saw it the same way. Regardless of the fact that his family & Harbour tried to advise him otherwise, tried to show him there were other options, he didn’t listen or share what his plans were. He let Harbour just not be in his life anymore simply because his ex told him to do so.
Harbour decides to head back home to Australia because the city she once loved is now tainted by Lincoln’s decisions.
When the mud ends up all over his face, he immediately goes into damage repair mode and gets shut down by Harbour.
Harbour had a secret of her own that she wasn’t ready to share with Lincoln just yet. Despite the fact that she selfless and still madly in love with him, this secret would make or break them for good.
Harbour’s crazy ex-boyfriend gets a hold of her and threatens her life at gunpoint. Lincoln comes to save the day and ta-da! All is forgiven, secrets come to light and they lived happily ever after.
What Lincoln did was completely unforgivable in my eyes. All that he said and tried to explain STILL would not redeem him so easily. I wanted him to grovel more and feel the hurt times 20 as to what he did to Harbour.
But, I guess as they say, love will make you do some crazy things.
Another issue – the sex. While it was hot, steamy and kinky – there was JUST TOO MUCH of it. Even I got EXHAUSTED for the copious amounts of sex these two had!! It was like okay, really? Breathe! Enjoy your relationship outside of the bedroom!!
Just re read to see if it was as bad as I remembered. Actually it was not as painful this time. I think she could have done something differently. But he still needed to grovel more and I HATE that she gave ground for gifts. Made her seem whoreish. But something about this book sticks with me.

This was really sweet and I loved Lincoln up until he became a total d-bag! I don't know if I could have forgiven him....

Where do I start first.....this was a really good read. I loved the author's writing style and all the characters. The entire book just flowed really well. Harbor is this "real" curvy woman that has some self esteem issues brought on by her douchebag of an ex-boyfriend. Luckily for Harbor she has some awesome, loyal and supportive friends that convinces her to leave him. She leaves Australia behind and moves to New York where she meets the sexy Lincoln Whitmore. I loved Lincoln and Harbour's chemistry and banter and of course the steamy/sensual sex scenes they had (lol). At one point I literally wanted to kick Lincoln in the balls but I understood somewhat where he was coming from (read the story and you will know what I'm talking about). But luckily for them their love was too strong to not overcome that situation. I loved the ending but I did feel like it was a little to rushed. The Epilogue should've been longer or at least there should've been another chapter before the Epilogue (but that's just my opinion). Overall I felt this was a great book and I look forward to reading Pierce's story next.
Firstly what an author..Penelope Louleas..you've got some serious talent. This book was engaging, the story flowed like melted butter..the characters are so loveable you want to be them....and the plot so well written I did not see the twist coming....
"Harbour, I'm sure I speak for both of us when I say there's a strong pull between us. I think about you more than I should and, if I'm being completely honest, I'm hard everytime you walk in the room. S***, I'm hard everytime I think about you. F***, I don't think my dick has relaxed since New Year's Eve!" - Lincoln
Now speaking of characters...let's talk Lincoln sexy as hell Lincoln who even after a broken heart still finds it in him to love again, the guys sweet but throw in his alpha possessive he's panty melting...
"I'm all yours harbour, Just like your mine. No one else is allowed to touch you. Understand?"- Lincoln
Holy shiz....Lincoln is hot!!! But wait it gets better cause there's nothing better than a hot alpha with a dirty mouth....
Now we come to Harbour who lack of faith and confidence thanks to her douchebag ex...will have you wondering if she'll ever take that leap of faith....she's feisty, sick of being walked over...but has a sweetness that shines and a dirty mouth to rival Lincolns...
If your looking for a book that's goons grab you this is it...it's got sweet, great banter, lots of love...plus it's foo foo clenching hot..I mean rugby tackle hubby to the ground the minute he walks through the door HOT!!!
Jesus, if I have to work with this man everyday i'm going to need to bring a spare change of panties in.

I don’t know if I can express how much I LOVED this story. Penelope Louleas, you took me on an exhilarating journey of complete beauty, splendor, brilliance and originality.
I adored Harbour. Her strong Australian character was radiant. Even though her life was not picture perfect and she had her own issues with it, like her scumbag boyfriend/crappy love life and maybe some insecurities about herself, but she put herself out there. She lived life and made the most of her situation.
She was so honest and straight up – with a no filter sassy little mouth, independent, sexy and curvy, just so, so beautiful inside and out. OMG I loved her.
Her friends were awesome – especially Pierce – So looking forward to reading his story. He was amazing and so fascinating – I just wanted to hug and squeeze him tight.
Harbour lands a promotion at work which sees her moving to New York for bigger and better things. This is just the encouragement she needs to have a little adventure and discover herself.
Enter Lincoln Whitmore. And OhhhhEmmmmGeeee he is sexy as sin, smooth, charming and gorgeous but far from perfect. He has a screwed up past and he is trying to redeem his bad boy past by taking over his father’s business.
Harbour’s promotion sees her working for Lincoln as his PA. Their first encounter is pure bliss, but the second is laugh out loud funny. You will have to read it yourself to see what I mean.
But let me say this. Lincoln and Harbour are hot for each other – like sizzling. Their desire for one another was intense and passionate from the moment they met.
Harbour My heart is racing. I’m overwhelmed by emotions; excitement, nervousness and, thanks to spending two hours talking to sexy, blue eyes, arousal. His voice alone turns me to jelly. I can admit that several times during our conversation I imagined him naked with only his mask on. Harbour’s feelings and thoughts were evidence of how Lincoln affected her and later on Lincoln’s words made you feel it – his lust, passion and desire for Harbour.
Lincoln “This is fucking with my head sweetheart, but in a good way. A great way. I’ve never felt like this about anyone. Ever. I missed you so damn much last night, so much it doesn’t feel sane.”
Lincoln & Harbour “I’ll make you scream my name so many times that the neighbors will think I’m a fucking god.” Mmmmm. “Well, your altar is one I have no problem worshipping at. Even on my knees.” “God dammit, I’m ending this call before I come in my pants like a fucking fifteen-year-old boy. Goodnight beautiful.” “Goodnight, handsome.”
I treasured that this book was filled with great Aussie dialogue. It was so refreshing and fabulous. It was funny, sad, full of love, lust and sex with drama and fairytales all thrown in together.
Pierce “Now go. My child, find a sexy man, and get your kiss at midnight, otherwise the clothes will disappear and you’ll be starkers in front of your new workmates.”
Harbour Tonight, I get to ring in the New Year in New York, and most importantly, tonight I must remember not to talk like a bogan with Tourette’s.
Will Lincoln be perfect for Harbour? Is Harbour living a fairytale dream? Will their pasts interfere with their present and future? Will love keep them together?
Harbour “Jesus, if I have to work with this man everyday I’m going to need to bring a spare change of panties in.”
Penelope really depicts her characters exceptionally well. They are vividly imprinted into your imagination while you are reading this story and days after. I felt it was so real. It was beautifully written and flowed magically. Have I already said I loved this story.
Congratulations Penelope Louleas on a fabulously captivating debut novel.
I honestly don't know where to start! This read was beyond amazing. Bravo, Penelope Louleas!!! You know when you find such a great book that you want to shut yourself off to the world just to keep reading? Well, that is definitely how you will feel with this read. Its funny, heart wrenching, loving and oh... so good! I love Harbour (main female character) she's blunt and without filter which is awesome! Lincoln (main male character) is so dreamy. Harbour's friends are kick ass and hilarious, Pierce especially!! I found myself busting up laughing so much. As for the heart wrenching parts... I cried. It's rare for me to literally cry while reading a book. Sure, I've gotten teary eyed, but this read had me in tears at some points. So, if you want an amazing read that you can't put down... definitely get "Harbour" by Penelope Louleas. Trust me when I say that you won't be disappointed... you will be beyond addicted to it!
I am so thankful I picked this book up on a recommendation to get me out of my book funk. Harbour and Lincoln...wow!!! They are relatable, strong and so in love. I was floating along reading and in my own happy bubble then BAM...just when I think it's over...BAM again. I will say this is a beautiful story, a wonderful standalone and highly recommend
RATING: 4.5 LINCOLN & PIERCE STARS WITH A SIDE ORDER OF BEN!
Australian author, Penelope Louleas has made a smashing entrance with her debut novel, Harbour.
I really enjoyed meeting Harbour and her friends. Pierce is a bit of a fave of mine. He is both fairy godmother and loyal friend, to the core. I want me a Pierce.
“I like cock,” he whispered. I’d released my breath and laughed hysterically, so much so that people were staring. I’d finally stopped because my stomach was hurting.
“Me too.” I replied, even though I was completely inexperienced with them.
Pierce is the epitome of sexy. It’s like God spent a bit of extra time molding him perfectly, gave him this insanely sexy and charismatic personality, a great sense of humor, intelligence and then thought, I’ve made the perfect man. Women will fall all over themselves to be with him, so ha, ha, I’m going to make him attracted to men. Suck it, ladies!
Harbour is taking up a position in New York which allows her the freedom to flee from a creep who is her ex, in Australia. She grew a backbone and dumped the chump.
A masquerade ball leads to a kiss from a masked guy.
Enter Lincoln.
I got to say, I fell for Lincoln, hard. He is sexy, smart, he ticks the boxes a girl would dream of in a guy, but...
then...
Did I just smash a mirror?
I think, if I was to be honest, Lincoln did drop the ball and crushed me a fair bit. He's a character that I loved, so he kind of hurt my fictional feelings.
He knows he dropped the ball.
There were ways around it, but he did what he felt he had to do in the moment.
Guys.
I absolutely adore Lincoln’s family. They are solid people with a good heart.
This is a story about second chances, and a girl with a past that fell hard for a man that was qualified to be her future and villains who come in all shapes.
A sexy read, that flowed very well, the pages kept turning, I got knocked around a bit with my emotions like a rugby tackle.
I look forward to reading the second installment in this series.
*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
I must admit, this book was pretty good. Like, special. But not like, ‘special’ where people are in padded rooms licking the walls as if it were Candy land. No, this book was special. For a debut book, it was special. And, I feel pretty damn good right now being able to say that…
In this story, we are introduced to a couple where their attraction is met in an unfiltered atmosphere: a masquerade ball. Granted, seeing a man in a sexy suit with a sexy mask on, who wouldn’t swoon over such a lovely sight, right? But they didn't know who the other person truly was until months later. Then it all changes. :) :) :)
I loved this couple. Harbour had the strength of a Saint. Because trust you me, I would’ve slapped-a-ho real fast once Rachael brought her ugliness back in to the picture. And there was this moment where Lincoln makes a decision that greatly impacts the future of Harbour and himself and I was so rocked by this book that I couldn’t even get mad at him. I mean, my heart ached for the pain she was going through and yet I could totally understand where he was coming from and yet I was aching for him as well. I was connected damn it!
For those of you wanting to know about the sexiness of the sex...well, it's hawt. Like, too hot to be just 'hot' so it's 'HAWT'.
This book had me so twisted up that it was just…WOW. In a good way, of course. Great job to Penelope Louleas and I really look forward to seeing more of your work in the future (no pressure, of course). ;)
I had the good fortune of meeting Penelope Louleas earlier in the year at a signing, and I have been waiting for Harbour ever since. With the level of my anticipation for Harbour, my expectations were high and Louleas didn't disappoint.
I identified with Harlow on so many levels, always the chubby girl I understood her need for comfort, for staying in a relationship that wasn't good purely for the comfort it provided, for the safety she felt in it, but what I admired about Harlow is that when things got rough and when she stood at a crossoads - she made the right choice, she chose the life she should be living not the one she had always believed she deserved. Harlow was strong and when push came to shove she finally put herself first.
A whirlwind trip to the US and the beginning of a new life Harlow is carving out for herself and we meet Lincoln, sexy, charismatic and hiding past regrets and secrets, he is finally living for himself and trying to become the man he wants to be. A man who see's beauty in Harlow, he see's her kind spirit, her quiet strength and knows that his life is forever changed just by knowing her.
There is so much beauty in this story, there is pain and heartbreak, there is jaw dropping panty wetting sexiness but more than that for me Harlow Manning is the stories hero, her growth from the girl who accepted what she got in a relationship because she felt she couldn't do any better, to the woman she became, she proved for me that while having a man tell you you're beautiful shouldn't change how you see the world, it can be the push you need to look deeper at yourself, at those things you think are flaws, to realise they are the same things others see as beautiful, the things they love inspite of your self doubt.
Harbour left me wanting for more of not only Lincoln and Harlow's story, but for all the secondary characters, I want, no I need to see how their lives, their stories play out. Congratulations Penelope Louleas on a stunning debut, I can't wait to see what you do next.
Harbour is the first novel written by Australia writer, Penelope Louleas. Initially based in Melbourne, Australia, the protagonist Harbour is a young 24 year old working as a PA for Whitmore Industries. Like many young 20 something’s, she had a steady job, a close group of friends, loving family, however not a very happy love life. Enter, dickhead Derek.
After walking in on Derek’s ‘sex capade’ with another woman, Harbour decides to finally get rid of him, much to the excitement of her best friends Melody, Artemisia and Pierce (he was my favourite). As luck would have it, her boss decides that she has earnt the opportunity to transfer to an opening PA position to their joint company in New York. With a new determination, Harbour leaves to discover a new life and to forget about her rubbish relationship.
After reading a series of novels that lately seemed to be full of angst, virgins and melancholy, it was refreshing to read this. What I noticed initially while reading this, was how relatable it was. I had the close friends who looked out for me, I knew of other friends in rubbish relationships and their banter made me feel like I was talking to my own friends.
The intensity between Harbour and Lincoln is incendiary. They are a hot love match and can’t get their hands off each other. I loved it- especially when Lincoln takes her for a ride in more ways than one on a Harley.
Based in New York, there were references to places that made settling into the novel easy. The story had excellent continuity and for a debut novel, Louleas did a remarkable job!
If you’re looking for a fun, light hearted, humorous and smoking hot read, then this is for you!
I started Harbour not knowing what to expect. I read the synopsis when I signed up for the blog tour but that was a while ago and I had forgotten it. Then I received the teasers to post on my blog and I thought ‘OMG! This book sounds really good. I am going to enjoy reading this book.’ Was I disappointed? Not on your life! This is one of those books that keeps you awake reading until you can’t see clearly and then keeps you off Facebook the next day because you have to finish it. I live in Australia so I might have been a little bit biased because the main character, Harbour, is an Australian, but I don’t think that was why I loved this book so much. I loved her, her sassy mouth and the fact that she wasn’t afraid to say what she thought. Well maybe, not all the time, but then I had the pleasure of reading her thoughts which were very entertaining. I even sent quotes to my friends. Yes, there were other characters in the book. How could you not fall in love with Lincoln? He was gorgeous, but he wasn’t perfect which makes him more believable. And then there were the minor characters whom I loved or loved to hate. Since this the first book in the Runaway Home series, I’m hoping the other books in the series will feature at least one of them. I would be very happy if there was a book about Melody, Artemisia or Pierce. I gave Harbour 5 out of 5 stars. Written by Karen from A Thousand Lives Book Blog
What a wonderful story. I loved how the author bring out all the characters that you want to read more. At first I thought it was going to be a simple contemporary romance but it was so much more. I loved the whole story. You fall in love with Harbour. Harbour finds her boyfriend Derek in her own bed with another girl. Her job was giving her an opportunity to relocate in newyork. This would be an escape from Aussie to a new world NY where she always wanted to visit.
Harbour meets her handsome broken heart rich boss Lincoln. Lincoln was hot. Omg. I loved how he thinks and the way he express to Harbour of how he wants her. Very sexy. It was a fun sexy read. I loved it. I can't get enough. I want to rad more of Pierce, Melody and Ben.
Harbour-I had the wonderful opportunity to review this book and OMG was it a good one! Harbour and Lincoln's story is an awesome one. They are the prime example of the saying "everything happens for a reason". Harbour left Derek and Lincoln left Rachel while practically in two separate worlds but then their worlds collide when they meet in New York. And fireworks actually do spark! It was New Years Eve! Fireworks seem to be their symbol for when special things happen. I really fell into this book. At one point I wanted to barf with Harbour and was cursing at Lincoln for leaving! It was so emotional. I tears at one point! This book is a steamy, HOT romance and I definitely recommend this one!
mantra....Lincoln. .Lincoln. .Lincoln I had the great opportunity to review this book and what a GREAT escape it was. My fairytale to my new BBF lol It was such a great UPLIFTING story of Harbour and Lincoln. Every Cinderella needs a prince charming. I read this from cover to cover. and I could not put in down. From the HOT scenes, to humor convos and heartaches it contained it was a page turner! I enjoyed the every point their story, but I did hope there was more to them at times through out the book. So I'm looking forward for the upcoming series!
I'm not one to normally write a review but this debut novel is perfect. I fell in love in the first few pages and fell harder with every turned page. The story of Harbour and Lincoln is every girls fantasy come true. I can't wait to read more from this very talented author. She got everything right her first try. Congratulations Penelope. 5 amazing stars from me.
Good garden of peas-- this book was hot!!! Like make sure you have spare batteries for your B.O.B hot.... go right now and get this one!!!
My girl Ang recommended this one, and she was so excited about it, I ended up setting aside the book I was reading and started this one. And let me say, I devoured it. It was so good. It had just enough angst to keep you guessing, bit not so much you were thinking "get on with it already". It had a perfect balance.
Now, lets talk about the sex scenes--- I seriously needed a cold shower a couple of times. Penelope hit it out of the park with these. She was able to capture the emotion between the characters and still put a naughty erotic like quality to the scenes. And I finally relented to Ang's "you have got to read this", when she screen shot a sex scene and sent it to me--I literally stopped that second, and down loaded this book.
The plot and the sex scenes alone were enough to enjoy the book. But once you add in Alpha Linc you have a serious winner. Linc was lush. He had an amazing dirty mouth on him, and he could incite and orgasm with words alone. He was bossy without being domineering, and I LOVED that he encouraged Harbour to be Harbour-- not what the "elite" thought she should be. On top of that he gifted her with really hot designer shoes on a regular basis--can we say perfect man???
Harbour was a fantastic leading lady. She was smart, with a smart mouth. She had no filter and just said it how she called it. I loved this about her. She stuck her foot in her mouth a couple of times, but it made her all the more enduring. And in the end, she turned out to be selfless. A rare and precious person that literally cared more for others and their needs than herself, even if it cost her.
The side characters in this are just as good as the main ones. All of the side characters have their own unique personalities and the dialogue that goes on between them is hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. The group of main friends are all very different yet they embrace the differences and somehow make it work.
I cant wait for book 2 in this series to release. I will be author stalking until then.....
I was given a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. I loved the characters in the story. I really liked Harbour's two friends Pierce and Melody, they were great characters and great friends of Harbour's.
Harbour and Lincoln meet on an elevator, but she doesn't know that he is the CEO, of the company she works for. She noticed something familiar about him and she figures it out where she has seen this man. There is an undeniable attraction that Harbour and Lincoln have for one another, but Harbour doesn't want to act on it because he is the CEO and her boss. One night Harbour is invited to go out with a couple of co-workers and she invites Lincoln. They are walking to the club and that is where Lincoln says something to Harbour and Lincoln doesn't end up going and she then gets super wasted to forgot Lincoln and have a good time. She leaves the club, but there she gets attacked by a drunk male. She is able to defend herself, but her attacker gets her and drags her, but unable to do anything else to her, since she is screaming for help and there was a couple guys that see her and her attacker and they run over to help her. She is taken to the hospital and she wakes up to see Lincoln there. He gets the doctor to examine Harbour and says see can be released, but she needs someone to stay with her and observe since she had a mild concussion. Lincoln hears the doctor and he takes Harbour home with him. This is where things change for Harbour and Lincoln.
As the story continues, their feelings for one another grow very quickly. Both, Harbour and Lincoln are very surprised, how quickly their feelings has grown for one another in a short time since they have met. Throughout the story you feel the love they have for one another.
Harbour is the first novel written by Australian author, Penelope Louleas. Harbour is the female lead and is fairly content with her lot in life, great friends, loving family and she has a good job, although her love life needs improvement!! Her boyfriend Derek is a total douche bag!!!
After catching Derek doing the dirty on her, Har was brave and faced her boyfriend, even though she had an inkling as to what she would be walking in on. Har was shown to be strong even though she stayed with him for way too long!!
With the support of her friends, Melody, Art and Pierce, Harbour decides to move on and relocate to New York. Although taking the step on her own she is determined to discover herself and forget about Derek.
Enter Lincoln. An alpha male who knows what he wants and when he wants it!! Har and Lincoln's sexual chemistry is HOT!!! It sizzles off the page!! There are many scenes that had my heart racing!! The Harley scene being one of them!!! So yeah! Derek who???
There are many touching moments too. Not wanting to give too much away x but the 4th of July!!!! Sigh!
Don't be fooled into thinking it's all lovey dovey and HOT sex!! There is angst too, plot twists and turns just to keep you guessing and your heart squeezing tightly!! But I will say that it does have a HEA x
I really enjoyed this book and I felt that the characters were believable, in fact I loved it!! Which is why I have given it 5 stars!!
This is the first book in the Runaway series and I'm totally looking forward to the next instalment, Pierce's story, I think that's going to be off the charts HOT!!

This story had you captivated from page 1 !! Penalope's writing had me laughing (Harbour's sassy mouth), crying (No don't leave), cheering (yes shoe's)screaming why why why !!!! I LOVED IT !! I know you will fall in love with the characters too ! I can't wait for more !!
I was lucky enough to have read the arc for this book in exchange for an honest review, and honestly...this book is incredible! I usually go an and on about the main guy in a story, but, it is our heroine, 'Harbour' that shines right through this book. I loved all her characteristics, from her ability to stand up for herself when she needed to, to her courage, but, most definitely her wit. This girl is hilarious. She had me laughing out loud on several occasions, as she has no filter, Harbour just blurts out what she wants to say, and it is fantastic! The male character 'Lincoln Whitmore' is most definitely swoon worthy, and very easy to fall in love with. In fact, all the characters were so well written, I felt like part of the Whitmore family while reading, and I hope Penelope writes more stories with these characters involved. The part I especially liked about this story, is there is no bad family history for the characters, (apart from Harbour and Lincoln's ex partners) which was nice to read for a change. Their families are both around, and they were both brought up in families full of love and support , which is rare to read in books lately. I loved the roller coaster ride the author took me on, especially towards the end of the book. I wasn't sure how it was all going to work out, she kept me guessing right to the end. I highly recommend 'Harbour' to anyone that likes a good love story, with a heroine that will have you cheering for her all through the book. Loved it! 5 HUGE Stars!
Penelope Louleas does an amazing as a first time writer in creating a story that is so captivating that as a reader, I couldn't put the book down. Louleas does a wonderful job in developing the two lead characters Harbour and Lincoln and the journey to love.
The story begins as Harbour flees Australia after finding out her long-time boyfriend Derek has been cheating on her for the past four years steady. She is transferred to the head office of the company she works for in New York City to work underneath the CEO of the company.
A chance encounter on New Years Eve with a charming and handsome stranger gives Harbour the welcome to the Big Apple she needs in order to start a new life. Harbour finds out who her handsome stranger is and beings to fall in love with him as they start a new life together.
With the ups and down of their past life haunting them, Harbour and Lincoln struggle to make their relationship work. After the unthinkable happens, she flees New York into the open arms of Pierce her sexy best friend.
Louleas leaves the reader on edge while making them hot from all the steamy love scenes in the book. She does a great job in creating a love story of two people who are desperate to find that one love who will remain true to them.
Harbour by Penelope Louleas is a great read. Harbour finds out that her boyfriend of 4 years has been cheating on her for years. She breaks up with him, then her job transfers her from Australia to New York. She attends a New Year's Eve Masked Gala her first weekend in town. She meets a hot guy, tells him she has dreamed of going to Time's Square to see the ball drop in person. He takes her there and share a HOT kiss as the ball dropped. 2 months after starting her new position, the new CEO finally makes his grand appearance. Who else would it be, but the masked guy from New Year's Eve! Lincoln Whitmore, 29 years old and was just recently left by his finance. As they both fight their attraction to each other, sooner or later they come together. And when they did, it was a steamy, great time! As their relationship progresses, the past has a way of coming and biting you.... This story was a great, easy read. I laughed, cried, and fanned myself off a lot with this story. I am looking forward to her upcoming books with other characters from this one! I would most definitely recommend this to everyone!
I received this book for a review. I liked it, I did not LOVE it. I give it 4 stars. It was slow dragging (to me) during the beginning of the book but I did enjoy it and I couldn't put the book down during the last few chapters as that's when the action happened (lol). I am looking forward to the next book in this series which hopefully won't be to to long. This is the first book written by Penelope Louleas and she she a wonderful job! I look forward to her future books, especially the next book in this series which hopefully won't be too long of a wait!! Thank you for the chance to read and review!!
I want to say first off that I struggled with reading this to start. I wasn't used to the tense used and it threw me for a six. Once I was able to get over it, though, I had to power through the story to see where these two were headed. a fun read.i enjoyed the story, although I was surprised at how accepting everyone was of the relationship. glad for the Rec and happy to support an aussie author :)
Harbour
My heart is racing.
Lincoln
“This is fucking with my head sweetheart, but in a good way. A great way. I’ve never felt like this about anyone. Ever. I missed you so damn much last night, so much it doesn’t feel sane.”
Lincoln & Harbour
“I’ll make you scream my name so many times that the neighbors will think I’m a fucking god.”
Mmmmm.
“Well, your altar is one I have no problem worshipping at. Even on my knees.”
“God dammit, I’m ending this call before I come in my pants like a fucking fifteen-year-old boy. Goodnight beautiful.”
“Goodnight, handsome.”
I treasured that this book was filled with great Aussie dialogue. It was so refreshing and fabulous. It was funny, sad, full of love, lust and sex with drama and fairytales all thrown in together.
Pierce
“Now go. My child, find a sexy man, and get your kiss at midnight, otherwise the clothes will disappear and you’ll be starkers in front of your new workmates.”
Harbour
Tonight, I get to ring in the New Year in New York, and most importantly, tonight I must remember not to talk like a bogan with Tourette’s.
Will Lincoln be perfect for Harbour? Is Harbour living a fairytale dream? Will their pasts interfere with their present and future? Will love keep them together?
“Jesus, if I have to work with this man everyday I’m going to need to bring a spare change of panties in.”
Harbour is offered the chance of escape, a job with Lincoln Whitmore as his new personal assistance means that she has the opportunity to get as far away from her cheating ex as possible – out of sight and definitely out of mind. Moving from Australia to New York – should just about do the trick! But Harbour isn’t the only one nursing a broken heart, Lincoln is piecing his heart back together after his fiancé was caught cheating on him. One night, two months prior was the catalyst to their story but they didn’t know it yet. Names withheld and masks firmly in place they may have gone their own ways after that night but neither of them was able to completely dismiss the pull that one night had on them.
So when Lincoln returns to the fold to assume his role as the company CEO, he is faced with the woman that has plagued his mind since their New Year’s Eve kiss. Names be damned, Cindy/Harbour whoever she wants to be, Lincoln lays it all on the line for a woman that he just can’t be without.
I loved the fact that Lincoln was brutally honest, he hid nothing form Harbour, he told her that he wanted her and that it was consequences be damned – he had no plan to hide his relationship with her – he just needed her to know that she was in it for the long haul, she had to buy into the fact that the pull between them was uncontrollable and they owed it to themselves to give it a try.
Harbour thinks about things too much sometimes but I have to admit that I really loved her lack of brain to mouth filter – she was honest, blunt some could say but she held nothing back and that is only to be commended. Where Harbour was a complete free spirit, Lincoln was more constrained but he was glorious - I am smitten!!! He worshipped the ground Harbour walked on and was not shy about showing her what she meant to him. Ring in hand he set about making her his forever.
But their happy ever after was about to become seriously derailed.
I have to say that until this point I thought I had a handle on Lincoln, he seemed to be a fairly black and white guy who wore his heart on his sleeve and loved unconditionally but when he chose his ex – a woman that had cheated on him over Harbour the woman that adored him, I found his reasoning seriously flawed. I know that he may have though that he had no choice but really!!!
His stubbornness and willingness to be railroaded was farcical, a blind man could see that there was only one way this was going to end but he buried his head in the sand and ostracised Harbour from his life. Painful didn’t even cover the emotional turmoil that Harbour was facing but with her dignity in tact she packed up and headed home, it was just too much to watch the man still loved be with someone else. I was happy when the shit hit the fan with Lincoln, he deserved what happened to him, he could have prevented it if he had only listened to not only Harbour but his family and friends but I was also proud of him for at least trying to mend the best thing that had ever happened to him, but rejection cuts deep and Harbour is having nothing to do with his apologies.
But Harbour’s life is not all plain sailing now she is back in Australia, I mean she has a crazy arsed ex too. Only difference is that her nut-job is armed and she is on his radar.
Tragedy averted by Lincoln, secrets untold by the both and happiness re-found – yep that is just about the gist of it – it wraps up much as I had hoped it would early on but after what Lincoln had done, I was peeved because I thought it wrapped up too quickly, he got off lightly in my book and Harbour was too ready to welcome him back eventually with open arms. The sex is frequent and seriously hot – both Lincoln and Harbour are more than willing to push the boundaries and the mix of hot dirty talking alpha male with filter-less dirty mouthed woman was just joyous!
I absolutely love it when I find a new author whose writing captivates me from the very first page. To be honest, Harbour wasn't even the reason I came across Penelope Louleas' stories. I'm a huge fan of the M/M genre, so when I was going through emails for different upcoming releases, and I stumbled upon Pierce, it was a no brainer to sign up. Since Harbour comes before Pierce, I was given an ARC of it as well, and all I can say is I'm so happy that I did because it was phenomenal. Even when I was pissed off with the turn the story took towards the end, I couldn't begrudge Penelope of that choice because everything did seem a bit too perfect in Harbour and Lincoln land, and readers know that's not usually the case in romance stories, at least not until the characters work for it a little bit more;)
Harbour Manning is a heroine who readers will connect with and cheer for right from the onset. She's a sassy woman without a filter who's about as real as a person can be. She's honest and selfless and a bit insecure but that's partly due to her douchebag ex who made her feel like she was never good enough. She's in awe of the world around her and soaks up every part of life that she can. With her new opportunity to spread her wings in New York, Harbour finds out even more about herself and what she's made of when she gets involved with Lincoln Whitmore - a man who sets her body of fire and makes her heart beat faster.
Lincoln Whitmore is a dirty mouthed man who commands both in the bedroom and the boardroom. He is sex on a stick, and he falls for Harbour as hard as she falls for him. She's everything he's always wanted, and he proves that fact to her day in and day out. What starts out as a physical connection turns into something so much more and Penelope illustrates that bond through every one of Lincoln's actions, even the ones readers may not agree with.
Harbour and Lincoln's story has a fantastic storyline filled with witty banter, toe curling hot sex, and a hero and heroine who share a bond that they're both willing to fight for even when it looks like an impossible feat. I loved everything about Harbour, especially the supporting characters and I can't wait to read their own stories. Pierce's novella is first and I can't wait to get to know him better!
