Embers burn in my soul, deprived of oxygen. I am gasping for air, trying to find my way out of the dark. Everything I have ever known is a twisted version of reality, but it’s my mates who help unravel the truth. When bonds are severed and my world goes up in flames, will I survive as the Queen of Ash and Magic, or will I be another casualty of war?
This is a DARK fantasy romance with HEAVY triggers. Reader's discretion is HIGHLY advised.
Emily Klepp is a Western North Carolina native residing in eastern Tennessee with her loving husband and two beautiful children. She has been writing since she was fourteen years old as a way to cope with her anxiety. She hopes to help others be able to speak their truth by writing about topics that are considered too taboo for societal norms.
Witches... dragonshifters with two 🍄....EXCUSE ME WHAT?! 😱😱
This book was 🔥 🥵 I don't read a lot of fantasy but if they were written like this? Well, I'd add a lot more to my tbr!
I honestly loved the love story. I am quite a fan of poly relationships being represented in books, and this couple was cute! Great banter and great smut. Not to mention the healing from trauma and oh so satisfying revenge!
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review .
I think that this is my favourite Emily Klepp book thus far. I really loved reading it, it had a good pace, and I simply couldn't put it down. Sure, it is Dark Romance and you definitely got to read the triggers. But I loved it!
This book took me completely by surprise, but Emily's books tend to do that with me. The Queen of Ash & Magic was a fast-paced fantasy dark romance that had me in its grip from the very first page. We don't get eased into the story. Oh no, instead it gets smacked right into our faced from the very first chapter. And I absolutely love this book for that!
Emily Klepp has a very easy writing style, that is very fast paced. It just worked absolutely perfectly for me. The book moves smoothly, though at some points it is a little disjointed. Sometimes a piece of lore comes out of nowhere, and I would have liked to get a little bit more foreshadowing. I can't help it, I am simply a sucker for some good foreshadowing! You definitely get some pretty nice plot twists. Maybe the lack of foreshadowing makes it even more of a surprise when it happens? I guess you could call that a double edged sword.
The characters were nicely balanced out with the plot line. The book only has 214 pages, so it is relatively limited. Not a novella, but it didn't feel as a full length book for me either. I think to actually feel like a full length it should have had just a little bit more depth. But for the story that we got, with the amount of pages that we got, this was really nicely balanced. For every piece of character development we also got a piece of plot, and I actually kind of loved that!
Lysa has a very troubled past, and because of that I recommend everyone to check your triggers before taking a go at this book. It doesn't shy away from the darker topics, and it also doesn't beat around the bush when describing what is happening. I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, so it is important to consider this before picking up The Queen of Ash & Magic.
I am going to be honest, I was a little nervous when Emily was doing a fantasy book. But she did it really well and I hope with my whole heart that she is going to write this genre more often. The world that Emily creates is one that definitely caught my interest. I wouldn't mind a few more books set in this world, simply because of the world-building.
Good Bits: Spicy Fantasy Dark Romance Dragon peen Two Fated Mates A really nice world-building Fast paced and easy to read writing style
Bad Bits: A little disjointed at times
This book was such a fun read and I am looking forward to any future reads by Emily! It was just so much fun. The Queen Of Ash & Magic is an absolute wild ride. The story is intense, hot and spicy. If this sounds like your cup of tea, definitely try it out!
DNF at 37%. There may be spoilers or semi-spoilers in this review.
Well. This was immediately fucked up. Like first-line immediately. I did go to the author’s website and look at the triggers and tropes first, so I knew. But it still hit me like a gut punch, which is exactly what the author wanted. Here come the bullet points.
- I thought it would be better written. I heard the author sucks, screenshotting her readers’ reviews and mocking them in a private group, so I don’t feel bad being honest about the quality of her writing. It’s not good. - I didn’t expect much, but I was still surprised by how pointless the abuse was. Definitely shock value shit. It still got me though. Truly disturbed me. Reading with one eye squinted and face half turned away while grimacing kind of thing. - Then there’s the strange personalities that don’t go with the characters. Like why is Lysa suddenly a spoiled, confident brat when the dragon arrives at the castle? That makes NO SENSE. - It’s funny the author is known to mock people for being “stupid” when she has so many typos in her book. That’s something I usually wouldn’t comment on for a self-published book, unless it’s crazy bad, but I felt compelled to mention it considering the author’s behavior. - I actually like OM/OW drama sometimes, but it didn’t do anything for me here. And by that, I don’t mean the grape/incest stuff. I mean Drake and his service girl. - This is a strange combo of dragon shifter/witch/vampire/omegaverse. - The only reason I chose this book is because I heard this author puts somno in almost all of her books. I even checked on her site and it’s in this book somewhere. I tried very hard to make it to that, but I just couldn’t. Why the hell is it so hard to find books with good somno!? - I am soooo confused by all the 5 and 4 star ratings. I scrolled and didn’t see a single one below that. I get that people have different tastes, but seriously? Not anything below 4? Highly suspicious. Are these people getting paid?
This is traumaporn. It’s also a car-crash book. You want to look away but you can’t help but rubberneck. Until it gets so stupid that you have to stop. I can understand how this type of book has an audience, it’s just not me.
Lysa lives in a world in which her family didn't like her. Her only wish is to get away from them in any way possible. When she's taken captive by her family's enemies, she's not hopeful that they'll treat her any better. However, she finds out more about her life and is now living alongside them. I really liked reading about this new world. I loved the characters and how everything played out for them.
“I think death by dragon dick is a wonderful way to go.”
Spicy dragons and witches? Count me in! This story was a mix of trauma, heartbreak, and humor with a FMC who overcame her abusers and got her happily ever after.
Loved this fantasy book it has witches dragons mates hybrids magic betrayal and unconditional love. It made me feel sad, shock, laugh and run the roller-coaster of my emotions
Holy crap!! I can’t believe what happened throughout this book! I was not expecting the twist and turns. Couldn’t put the book down at all. I HAD to finish it in one sitting. Absolutely would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fantasy dark romance type book.
One FMC, two MMCs with four massive ding-a-lings between them. You know that this is not going to be realistic, and you should know better than to ask such a silly question. Now the question you really want to ask is, is it fun? Is it good? Am I going to be hooked? OK, that's three questions, sorry. It's one simple question to all three, a Big Fat resounding YES!!!! From start to finish, you are not going to be sorry you picked up Queen of Ash and Magic by Emily Klepp.
Lysa, our amazing and brave FMC. She has to go through a lot, and once you read this book, you'll understand what I mean. I really have a hard time even calling her “father” and “brother” her “family” after what they do to her and almost cost un-alive her. Then there is the woman who gave birth to Lysa, who beats her just because she can and she doesn't like Lysa for reasons unknown.
How Lysa becomes the strong, compassionate, independent, loving, empathetic woman she does after what those people put her through is absolutely astounding. Then, as if she hasn't gone through enough, she gets kidnapped and taken to another land. I personally think that instead of her getting kidnapped to another land, after what she's been through, that kidnapper actually saved her by getting her out of that place and taking her away. But, then she's kept as a prisoner of war by another team, a team she didn't get the chance to choose. That was a bit confusing.
Next, we have one of our MMCs Drakarous. Drakarous is the king of this other land, and he ends up having a spell put on him. The spell does get broken later on, thanks to Lysa.
Julianna is a side character of note as she is Drakarous (Drake) sister. She is married to Drakarous best friend Eryx.
Eryx is our other MMC, and when we first meet him, he is married to Julianna. But, they are not actually mates.
When it is discovered that Eryx and Julianna are not mates and Eryx and Lysa are mates just like Lysa and Drakarous are mates, Julianna goes through a spell to break her bond with Eryx by Alric. But, things go wrong.

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!!!! Know your triggers.
You are going to have to read the book to find out what happens to Julianna, Lysa, Eryx, and Drakarous. This book is told from multiple POV's, Lysa, Drakarous, and Eryx. Drakarous and Eryx are both dragonshifters, and Eryx is Drakarous's second in command. I loved this book. It was so well told, and everything was just brought together so perfectly. The roller-coaster ride that you go on with the twists and turns were just surprising. You just never knew what to expect. I just love Emily Klepp and her writing style.
The Queen of Ash and Magic had me hooked as soon as I got to the page that goes two mates four massive dicks Is this going to be realistic question? Hell, no. Are you going to be jealous anyways? Absolutely. Do you remember that while you read this book and you’ll get why I posted this part. Lysa is one of the bravest women I know to endure what she did for her life is uncalled for in my eyes. Her supposed brother and father did nothing but rape her almost all her life. Then you got the supposed mother who beat her because she don’t like her. The compassion and the strong independence were remarkable for someone who went through what she did. She gets kidnapped or in her eyes saved by the other land. She is saved to be a prisoner of war to the opposite team she was on which I don’t get. Drakarous is the king of the other land and he gets a spell put on him, but he gets broken later on the book because of Lysa. However when she goes to breed him while unconscious he mates with her. Julianna is Drake‘s sister and he is married to his best friend Eyrx. Well I guess the first couple days she was there he fell in love with her cause she isn’t one of his mates so now she has two. She goes under a spell that causes her bond to disconnect from her husband by Aldric at the same time. She at the time allowed her husband who was made it to another to have sex. But she can’t handle it and kills the baby in her womb with a lethal stabbed to the heart. As you can see from what I wrote, the story is well written and flows so fluently. You need to pick this up for a nice cozy winter to read…
A world with witches and dragon shifters? Yes, please! The Queen of Ash and Magic by Emily Klepp had so many plot twists that I did not see coming. I made a mistake by starting this book before bed—I couldn’t sleep because it kept getting more and more interesting! Even though the story touched on heavy topics from the very beginning, it was actually a fun read, and we got to witness the rise of the Phoenix with Lysa, the FMC.
Lysa, our tormented yet beautiful character, has been through so much. The amount of abuse she endured, and then being kidnapped… It was heartbreaking. I really liked that, despite her being their enemy, the dragon shifters had such strong morals—they didn’t harm her; they took care of her. I also loved Julianna’s initial instinct to protect Lysa. I just wish a certain part of the story didn’t end the way it did.
Since I don’t want to give too many spoilers, I won’t go into details, but the MMCs' love literally made her blossom 🌸—stronger, a fighter. The character development was wonderful, especially for Lysa, but also for Eryx. I believe Drake was always perfect 😅. Both Drake and Eryx are incredibly protective MMCs, and I loved their interactions with Lysa.
This story contains many heavy topics, so make sure to check the content warnings before starting.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book is classified as Dark Fantasy Romance, and is a standalone. It does have a trigger warning list: Smexual assault, Incest via grape, Consensual incest (NOT the main characters.) graphic violence, mention of CSA, mention of child abuse, mention of death of a child, Kidnapping, DUBCON, Forced Breeding(No results from forced), Consensual breeding/pregnancy, betrayal, murder if a child (Off Page), abuse of a corpse*Off Page. According to the author, the book is a standalone. This book is also written in first person.
This book has multiple point of views: Lysa, Drakarus, and Eyrx. Lysa was abused by her family and considered an outkast. Meanwhile, Drakarus is a dragon shifter, and is King. Eryx is a dragonshifter as well, and is Drakarus' close friend and second in command.
I gave this book five stars. The reason behind that is due to how well it written. I love how she involved background into Lysa and how she brought everything together. There was also some twists and turns that took me by surprise, and I ended up actually yelling at my computer because I did not expect it.
The Queen of Ash and Magic is a good spicy dragons, witches, and magic story.
⚠️Please read the trigger warnings before starting this book⚠️

Lysa goes through horrible trauma under the hands of her "family." When she gets kidnapped by the dragons, she learns the truth about her "family." She finds her mates, and they go to war against the witches that betrayed them. She grows throughout their story, and it's beautiful how she finds her voice and strength to be Queen and go to war against her abusers. There are lots of spicy scenes and some drama. I enjoyed this dark fantasy romance!
This book is trauma filled and you get the trauma right from the start. This is heavy on the triggers so don't read if DARK is not your thing. Lysa has been through the depths of hell and survived. She is kidnapped by the witches rivals the dragons. She mates the dragon King and FFFUUUUCCCKKKK is Drake a filthy beast 😈😈 there are many twists and turns and revelations along the way. And a surprise second mate with Eryx, who is already mated to Juli, Drakes sister. That was a whole heartbreaking tale in itself. But Eryx... another FFFUUUUCCCKKKK!!!!! These 2 dragons love knotting and fucking with their double peens. They love to make it hurt and Lysa loves the pain. This is an absolute must read. Hot as fuck, had my squirming the whole time I was reading, laughing out loud, having my heart break but then getting revenge. There is so much to this story and I don't want to give it all away. A must read!!!!
If you are looking for a spicy, dark romantasy, this book is the perfect match. I really appreciated the speed of this book, the plot was fast-paced, it was engaging, and it was a relatively quick read. While this book didn't dwell on all the emotional elements it didn't skimp on the physical interactions. Overall, this book is a little like your favorite trashy tv show, you are reading it for the action and pure enjoyment. With that all said, the plot line was interesting and the world building was great, I loved the concept of witches vs dragon shapeshifters, all mixed in with possible hybrid combinations. Even though it was a quick read, there was more than one plot twist woven in that you didn't see coming. I really enjoyed reading about Lys, loved seeing her come into her own, and really hope that there is book two! This book is very dark and readers should take that content list seriously.
Well it’s official , Emily Really does just keep exceeding all my expectations every single time I pick up one of her books . I have to be completely up front , I’m not usually someone who enjoys reading Dark Fantasy Romances at all . No particular reason really, it’s just not a genre that really calls to me . That being said Emily happens to be one of my absolute favorite authors so of course I had to give The Queen Of Ash and Magic a shot !!!! And of my gosh am I so happy I did . It was truly an emotional rollercoaster that kept me up reading well into the early morning hours and made me feel so many different emotions I never saw coming . The witty banter , the dark , raw , gritty and oh so spicy moments, the trauma , the obstacles, the revenge , the secrets , the heartbreaking and heartfelt moments, the wonderfully written and very complex characters and relationships, the phenomenal world building. Emily truly is a queen !!
This book took over everything. l didn't stop reading this until I finished it. It's such an amazing story with fantastic characters. Lyssa is the fmc starts off this book in sheer hell being abused by people who were meant to protect her. But she was so strong and overcame everything they put her through it was difficult reading, But don't panic it all comes good for her when she is taken for a new life else where. The 2 mmcs are Drake and Eyrx. l wish more men were made like them. They were amazing characters, loved their relationship with Lyssa, and with each other, they were like brothers. Especially after what happens with Julianna, can't say too much much but if you like a book that has pain, lots of trigger warnings, witches dragons true deep love and respect, happiness and finding family this is the perfect book for you.
Well that was certainly an interesting read! It was fast, it was weird, a little shocking and fucked up, had a lot of dragon 🍆 and an easy to follow story but man it was super fun and entertaining!
Whew, the beginning of the book is definitely shocking that I don’t think I was prepared for. But it certainly set up the rest of the book! I love the characters and the banter, especially between Lysa and Eyrx. It made it such an entertaining read! The poor girl, the fact that getting kidnapped and being prisoner was better treatment than the way she grew up, says a lot! Love the HEA she gets!
Want some full on monster smut? This is the book! Not a lot of substance but so much dragon peen! Very entertaining!! PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS! Cause I was shocked at the beginning of the book! Happy Reading!
I'm not a witches and dragons kinda person so I wasn't so sure about this one to start with but once I picked it up I struggled to put it down.
It is heavy in the trigger like all of Emily's books I don't think I have read one of her books that hasn't been heavy on the abuse side but I just make you cheer for the FMC or MMC more.
I like Lysa with Drake but I think I might have like her relationship with Eyrx more. I loved that she winds him up. I like Julianna at first but I hated what she did to Eyrx and I think she deserved the ending that she got for that.
I was over the moon for Lysa when she got her real mom and dad back.
All in for something that I really wasn't keen on reading because i'm not into fantasy I did really like it and I might give a fantasy book a chance in the future.
Born a witch with no witch abilities. Forced to be the play thing to her father and brother while barely being kept alive.
When the witches break the treaty with the dragons they come looking for one of the witches children to help break the curse. They take the only living daughter and she finds this imprisonment to be a vacation from the life she previously lived.
She can't tell the dragons she is useless to them because of her family. However, it turns out this will be the biggest turning point in her life.
Secrets and lies will be revealed. She will be brutally ravaged and love it. Even more secrets will come to light. Can they finally end the reign of her family and free the witches as well as remove the threat to the dragons?
This book was intense and hot. I mean double peen and animalistic brutality. 🔥🔥
I’ve got to say that this one was different from all the other books I’ve read by this author, but honestly I wish this was a series. I’m so invested in Drake, Lysa, and Eyrx’s life that I never wanted this book to end. I will say that the breeding and pregnancy aspects of this book did turn me off a little as that’s not something I’m typically into, but I found the magic system for this world to be very intriguing and I wish we had gotten a little more of it. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend for someone who enjoys reading books about dragons and magic and kinky sex. I will advise that you check the trigger warnings before reading though, because there is some dark shit in this book. Happy reading!
“Two mates. Four massive dicks. Is this going to be realistic? Hell no. Are you going to be jealous anyway? Absolutely…“
Lysa, Drake, & Eryx, oh my. This is a spicy dark fantasy why choose with lots of trigger warnings so check them before reading. Lysa was severely abused by her family and inadvertently rescued by King Drakarus (Drake). They are actually mates and as they go through their “getting to know each other” process, they unravel hidden secrets about Lysa’s origin and her family. The revenge scenes had me yelling YES and YES!!! Because Lysa highly deserved to get her retribution! And did. This is well written, suspenseful, and had me hooked from the first chapter. With Drake and Eryx being dragon shifters…the spice was *chef’s kiss. Definitely recommend!
Maybe check your tropes and triggers, the list is long.. LOL, I'm good on the other hand! So here we have a paranormal / normal romance, plus many players and fated mates and poly added makes this pretty freaking sweet! Lysa, she is broken because she has been through hell and back including with what her own family has put her through, like a sh!ton of stuff. But she ends up pretty ok here because she is a strong chick with so much more to experience. You will have to read this to get all the good stuff. These characters were awesome and the storyline was so good that I didn't want it to end. I was engaged the entire time and didn't want to look up even on vacation. Emily Klepp is so talented, she gets to every reader within just the right content every time.
I love how fast paced this story is. I enjoy when a story gets to the point early on. Emily always does a great job with her story lines and making sure the reader is not lost and confused. She explains the important things and progresses the story. If you have ever read her books, you know she touches on some heavy trauma situations, but she does it in a way that allows the characters to heal from that trauma. I love that she does dwell on the trauma, but addresses it and allows for the healing. Her female characters are always strong and courageous and her guys are always understanding and supportive of the females. Lysa, Drake, and Eyrx all helped each other in their own ways. They formed a bond and saved their family and their home. I hope she does more stories like this.
This is a spicy fantasy dark romance, so please check your trigger warnings! This story comes with spice, dragons, witches, triggers, and trauma. I enjoyed reading this. It was fast-paced. There was so much going on I didn't want to put it down. If you're looking for a fast-paced quick read, this is it. Emily didn't play around. This book gets straight to the point and action. There are twists and turns I didn't see coming. That's what I look for in a book. I want something that's going to keep me guessing. I'm so bored and tired of books, shows, and movies being so predictable. With Emily's books, she is constantly surprising me. That's why I love reading her books. I never know what I'm going to get.
Get this, all your life you have been abused by your parents and your brother, until they break a treaty and you are taken by a bunch of dragon shifters to break the curse. After being taken you find out the truth about who and what you are, will everything be enough to get justice?
This is a short read, but it was filled with unhinged spice and the story line was actually really good. There were twists and turns, hidden identity, age gap, size difference, fated mates, why choose, captive/captor, king/queen.
This book had such good banter and again the spice was next level! It had me giggling like a little school girl!
This is my first dragon shifters book and I’m already hooked and looking for my next hit 🖤
The Queen of Ash and Magic is one of my most favourite reads from Emily Klepp so far. It has everything I'd want. A protective MMC who would wage a war for his beloved, a second MMC who would throw his current life upside down for true passion and revenge. And foremost a headstrong FMC who doesnt give up no matter what is thrown her way. She fights and then fights some more. She was one of my most favourite FMC's so far and I couldn't be happier to have read this amazing book. I only wish there was a part 2 (HINT HINT). I'll forever be recommending it to my friends, especially after those double dragon "weapons" haha.
** check t.w, this book starts off with trauma right off the bat!**
• fated mates • dragons & witches • dragon peens ×2..which equals 4 • found family • Touch her & 💀 • why choose • br€€ding k!nk • kn0tting • traumatic beginning but Happy ending
I'm not usually a fantasy girlie, but I got into this one and devoured it in a few hrs. Withes, dragons and spice..oh my!! There is plenty of spice, but it equals out with the war for justice if the fmc. The mmc's are very much "who did this to you" with Touch her & 💀 vibes. This book had all the goods, and I will happily always reccomend if someone is looking for a good fantasy! 🤌
This was such an amazing book! Who wouldn’t love a dragon and magic? We follow Lysa on the road to revenge and finding out that her family wasn’t all it was cracked up to be! A mist everything we find that while she has two mates and also that her sister in law is not what she claims to be. She pushes Eryx to be with lysa and ends up hurting eryx in the process by doing something unimaginable. Which tears this man apart. But it has a wonderful ending of revenge and love. This fantasy and found family is a really amazing book. Please check the trigger warning because there are things that happen but it’s an amazing book.
Witches... dragonshifters with two 🍆....Excuse me while I squeal like a happy school girl who just saw her crush in the hall way. I mean seriously who wouldn’t like a dragon shifter with two 🍆. This book was super spicy and extremely hot. I love a good fantasy book especially if they are written like this? I honestly really loved the love story between the characters in this book. I am quite a fan of poly relationships being represented in books, and this couple was cute! Great banter and super hot and spicy smut. Not to mention the healing from trauma and oh so satisfying revenge! Trust me you definitely want to add this to your tbr you won't be disappointed I promise you that.
