Ty McInnis is a rock star unraveling. After the death of his father threatens to crack open old wounds, he retreats to The Overlook, a discreet, high-end wellness retreat tucked into the Pacific Northwest wilderness. It’s supposed to be a break from the spotlight. From guilt. From himself.
Hali Torsten has been sent away like a problem to be solved. Groomed to carry out a family legacy built on lies, she’s burned every bridge she’s ever crossed. Exiled by a mother that would rather forget her than deal with her, she’s angry, guarded, and unwilling to be anyone’s redemption arc, least of all her own.
At The Overlook, their paths collide with friction, fire, and an uneasy familiarity. He’s used to people wanting him for his fame. She doesn’t even know who he is. What begins as contempt becomes connection—fragile, honest, and terrifying in its intensity.
In the quiet spaces between grief and guilt, Ty and Hali are forced to face themselves, their pasts, and the possibility of something real. But healing isn’t linear. Redemption isn’t easy. And love doesn’t always wait until you're ready.
Set against the backdrop of rain-slicked pines, late-night confessions, and music that says what words can’t, The Sky At Night is a slow-burn romance about grief, healing, and choosing love even when you’re convinced you don’t deserve it. This story is perfect for readers who crave emotional depth, character-driven romance, and the kind of healing that comes one deep breath at a time.

I have been waiting for this book for 7 months. Finally it was just released and I couldn’t wait to start reading it!!!
I managed to read 9 chapters (28%) and put it aside for later. While it was very well written and the premise was distinct and profound, it wasn’t the right time for me to follow the journey of the main characters’ great issues where they met in the wellness retreat… 😔
One of my favorite moments in any book is that "Aha!" moment when the title of the book suddenly makes perfect sense. That moment in this book gave me goosebumps (or as Heroin Heartbreak's lead singer Ty would call them - goosies).
I've been anticipating this rock star meets mean/rich girl romance from the very first glimpse that I got of this couple. It was so worth the wait. This isn't your typical rock star trope and although it could be considered enemies-to-lovers too, it's so much more than all of that. This story deals with a lot of heavy topics (you may want to check out the trigger warnings). It's an emotional but very steamy read, and even though it's a bit of a slower burn, it gets HOT once it ignites.
The Sky at Night is a standalone novel and book one of Heroin Heartbreak, but there are ties to the Folkestone Sins series throughout this story. While you don't necessarily have to read Folkestone first, I think you'll appreciate this story and the character development within it all the more if you do (I won't say too much here because I don't want to give anything away.) Plus, Folkestone Sins is one of my favorite series, so I recommend that you read it anyway.
As with all of this author's books, this one is addictive and I did not want to put it down. I loved seeing this story unfold from both main characters POV's and I loved the secondary characters too. And the ending? Well, that ending left me downright giddy and ready for so much more.
This enemies to lovers story is absolutely fantastic, I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put the book down. Yes, Ty McInnis is a rock star being the lead singer for the band Heroin Heartbreak, but this story is so much more than a ‘rock star romance’.
Told by dual points of view, it gives readers a much needed insight into what each lead character is thinking and how they are feeling. It also provides important information through flashbacks that are filled with so much angst, so be warned… it does get very emotional at times, understandable though. To balance things out there is some fun banter and Kess provides terrific humour, what an amazing character he is as well. Van is another absolutely amazing character and my heart went out to her so much.
The connection with another series by this author is a massive plus and surprise. Yet, the memories of a certain character, now deceased mind you, in that series still has me boiling over with fury after all this time. A sure sign of how fantastic this author’s writing truly is, for a reader to be that invested in her characters and want to go into protective mode, especially for a character who wasn’t liked—dare I say even hated. Seeing the other side to what truly happened to her, how she suffered such fear and pain is an eye opener. How the actions of her parents from when she was really young had far reaching consequences answers so many questions and is totally mind blowing.
The romance in this story is definitely a slow burn one, yet, there was pretty much a spark from nearly the beginning. I love the chemistry between the lead characters and how much they provoked each other—it truly was a war before it was anything else. I can’t recommend this book enough and if you haven’t read this author’s Folkestone series then you should! 😄 But honestly, you can read this as a standalone without a worry.
The silence here hits differently, though--it still whispers, but more of possibilities than accusations.
I was not prepared for this story! More so I wasn't prepared for who the heroine was, and how easily my love to hate would switch to compassion. Once everything was laid out for me it made me take a pause. It was then that I realized I had done exactly what she just described. I did love the familiarity that this character brought, and how it ties this new series to Folkestone Sins.
The love story with Ty was instalovey, but I'm okay with that. These two connected in a way that wasn't just surface level. Given that they were both at The Overlook, they were clearly working on themselves. So that just added an emotional punch to it all.
The Sky At Night touched on some difficult topics, and how they have affected the lives of our characters. The Overlook was the perfect setting for all of this, and I loved the insight it provided. We were getting to see them all in their most delicate moments, and walk that journey with them.
Samantha Lovelock continues to impress me with her storytelling and character development. It's what keeps me coming back for more, and it's a reason she is an auto-buy author for me.
The Sky At Night by Samantha Lovelock Ty and Hali story is amazing because of how they overcame a lot of their past demons and how Hali became more human to us in this story since we hated her in the Folkestone Series. She’s the girl you would love to terminate and I mean that in a bad way after dealing with her. Which you will see a bit of when she met Ty at the beginning at the coffee shop. (Which you should really read the Folkestone series!) I love the hate /love reaction and how they are drawn to each other. The banter is fantastic as you love the push and pull with them. I hope we get to more of the Kess characters in the future! Hint, hint, next book in line! I really enjoyed this story and think you will to.
*****Ty- aka Tyler-aka lead singer of Heroin HearBreak. He is running from a guilty conscience where his Dad rushed him back to touring , then tragedy struck. His dad rescued his best friend Kess ( also from the band)
Hali- trying to tame her demons- former bully.. Hali is desperately trying to regain her life from some childhood trauma that all Haunts her Moving in The Overlook is supposed to be a fresh start. She meets Vann, who also has trauma she is trying to keep hidden. But they become close friends.
Ty & Hali- have this low-key sexual bullying going on. They also have insane chemistry. Can they let their demons go long enough to take a chance on each other?
This is so much more then a Rock Star romance. This is a story of redemption, discovery and taking back one's self. It is a story of friendship and of romance. An excellent read.
I can’t not give this a 5 star rating! Seriously from the first word to the last, I couldn’t put it down. I love the way this author has with words. As you read them it pulls you in so deep and you can honestly feel the characters emotions as if they’re your own! Ty and Hali’s story is amazing. Love love love this story! I went from anger to crying with hurt and happiness for Ty and Hali!
I did not know what to expect when I started reading this book but let me tell you I loved it. I got a whole new perspective of Hali only knowing her as being a queen bi*ch but now finding out why she acted the way she did. Ty was a favorite of mine from the get go. Absolutely loved him. He has had a hard childhood than losing his father he just had to check out for awhile that's where he met Hali which I didn't believe she would be good for him but she redeemed herself. I loved the ending of this book and how they got their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book. The author nailed it with this story.
When the broody rockstar meets the bitter rich girl sparks fly. Can they overcome their fears and past to make it work.
This was my first book by this author and I truly enjoyed it. Right from page one, I needed to know about Ty. He was slightly jaded and heading down a broken path. Hali was angry and had a soul that had be tortured beyond repairs, or so she thought. These two had great banter and passion.
The author brought out a host of emotions from excitement to anger to sadness. When these characters shared their pasts, you couldn’t help but feel their pain. I’m excited to read more from this author.
This book was everything I hoped it would be and more! After reading the novella Hellion, I have been dying for this complete story! This is my favorite book hands down by Samantha Lovelock, and having a character spin off from Folkestone really hooked me in. I’m obsessed with this world!
This book had my emotions in an absolute chokehold, tears in my eyes and then…my heart let go of the anger & irritation the fmc had created in me through the Folkestone series. Just learning her back story was heart wrenching, and demanded re-examining who she really is. By the end of this book this fmc won me over and even became my favorite fmc the author has written. Now let’s talk about Ty…🥵🥵🥵 Hot as sin rockstar with a filthy mouth…YES please!
I recommend this book to those that love characters with a dark past, feisty fmc’s, rockstar’s, and love! I do recommend you read Folkestone Sins series first so you are introduced to characters in this book. I promise you won’t regret it! Also, check your trigger warnings before reading.
“The sky at night” is the first book in “Heroin Heartbreak” series.
Samantha Lovelock has yet again written a fantastic story that held me captive right from the very first page to the very last. I absolutely loved reading Ty and Hali’s story.
Ty is the lead singer of “heroin heartbreak” who is having a hard time dealing with personal issues. For anyone who has read the Folkestone series would Have come across our girl Hali. We get details of her past and what she’s been through and my heart broke for her.
Both Hali and Ty have some soul searching and healing to do. Ty and Hali were absolutely perfect for each other I loved their banter and their chemistry.
This is not your average rockstar romance. “Heroin Heartbreak” is so much more and deserves all the stars.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting for this book to be published and let me tell you, it did not disappoint me at all. I’ve been a fan of Samantha Lovelock’s since I first found her back in 2020. I love everything about how she writes. Her stories have so much emotion that you feel every moment. This is a standalone story, while not required I would suggest to read her Folkestone Series first for a better reading experience. This is a must read!
The author did something that I didn’t think possible - she got me to love a former villain.
Hali is that mean girl who could put Regina George in her place. And after reading this book, I completely feel sympathetic to what she went through at the hands of her father.
After her father’s demise, Hali is shipped off to a “retreat” to improve herself. Once there she runs into Ty, a rockstar, who has a whole load of baggage himself. Well their sparring leads to some very intense and steamy moments.
Their story is full of angst and trauma - beware the triggers. You feel their pain and how lost they feel. Together they are magnetic.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
The Sky at Night is the first book in the Heroin Heartbreak series. Samantha Lovelock has done it again! OH!HOW I MISSED HER BOOKS! I was COMPLETELY engrossed in this story, that I finished in a matter of hours! Please heed the trigger Warnings. This may be a spinoff, but to me, I felt this one is a bit darker than the Folkestone Sins. Uggghh, I soooo can't wait for more!
My Review: My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶 Pages: 239 Genre: Romance, Rockstar Romance, Enemies To Lovers
Hali and Ty both find themselves in The Outlook, a facility that helps you recover and get your life back on track.
Ty, lead singer in a major band dealing with the death of his father and trying not to fall back on old crutches.
Hali, forced into the facility by her mother after her evil fathers death. Rebellious and uses her anger at what life’s death her to keep others at arms length and hurt anyone who tries to come near.
From the moment they meet in group like recognizes like. Ty sees through her walls and has no problem calling her out.
This book deals with some hard topics in a very respectful manner. There is angst, lots of tears, soul searching and a past that has to be faced. All tied together by a young couple discovering it’s ok to trust and give your heart to someone.
A must read book! 🙌🙌🙌 to the author for the sensitivity displayed in this well written book!
Lets say the opening chapter really tore me apart for personal reasons but the way its written is captured beautifully and each word felt real.
Hali & Ty are breathtaking characters who are trying to work on their pasts and mental well-being. I think Samantha has captured the raw vunerability we all feel at points in our lives and the way this is portrayed is phenomenal.
I absolutely love the firey chemistry there is and how this blossems through the chapters. It actually had me crying happy tears. We need to appreciate Kess, Vann and Mari for me are huge characters and vital part of the story. Each as beautiful as one another. 😍 Vann really comes out of her shell and i HOPE she gets a story!
Now i am keeping spoiler free but that ending eeeek. I hope we get to know more there. Samantha you slayed this. Thank you for creating this beautiful book.
Like the glosts of my mistakes or an almost forgotten melody, she haunts me...
Honestly, I wasn't prepared for this story!!! This is my second book by Mrs. Lovelock and she is becoming a constant in my life... I haven't read the Folkstone series yet, but I realized that our heroine in here wass the bad and mean girl of that series and I believe that this is a very intriguing twist for those who have read the series and for those that wants to read it!!! Add to the mix a sexy rockstar and an exceptional setting and the result was explosive from many aspects...
"Fear does terrible things. It eats away at our souls and leaves hollow tunnels that lead to nowhere."
Ty and his band are at the top of the world, but when tragedy hits him, he just needs a pause from his crazy life and to re-invent himself in a different setting... Hali is forced by her mother to join 'The Overlook' and she is not very happy about that, but soon, she will realize that maybe this place is exactly what she needs in order to let go of her ugly past... Fate brought these two together in an unforgettable collision and when they are seeing each other again on the Overlook, things are becoming messy very soon... Yep, things were moving very fast between these two, but they weren't lacking in intensity and passion...
"I don't want to be lost anymore..."
I haven't met Hali before and I can understand how she were before, but her story broke my heart... It made me sad for her and I wanted to hug her... But the Overlook gave her back her life and she met people that meant so much for her... She had worked so hard for herself and that was something admirable!!! Ty had his own emotional scars, but even though he wanted it, he couldn't stay away from the rich girl who was bringing him on his knees literally!!! LOL I loved the push and pull between them and they were just perfect for each other... I wish that they would had a little bit more time together, but as the author developed their story, it was perfect just the way it was!!!
"I'm fucking broken, Ty, damaged beyond repair. You don't want me. Not really."
Of course, the show was stolen from Kess and Vann and I would love so badly to see them again... This was a story that I enjoyed very much, even though it wasn't an easy story to read... Ty and Hali's broken pieces were fitting so perfectly together and this new world that Samantha has created is very appealing!!! I just want more!!!
"What I didn't expect was you."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**
I didn't know what to expect from this one, I knew it was going to be good but I'm usually not a fan of rockstar stories but I gave it chance and Omg you guys this book was awesome, absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed it soo much. I enjoy anything that Samantha writes really. But this story was an emotional roller coaster that didn't disappoint . Hali and Ty are amazing, I both LOVE the characters so much. I really liked how the author wanted to show the readers that everyone has scars and issues that they are going thru. Also that if you work on yourself things CAN get better. This book was really addicting, I couldn't put it down. I just need to know what happened next. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for more!!. Oh and the cover!! the cover is sooo hot and perfect!! Samantha did an amazing job!! ( like always)
Hang on to your heart and your knickers because both are in for a bumpy ride!!!
The Sky At Night is deeply emotional, raw and intense story of grief, abuse and ultimately digging deep and finding who you are and accepting that your past doesn't define who you are or your future.
"Every experience I've ever had, everything that's ever happened to me, I had to go through to get here. Without all of it, this incredible moment never would have happened."
Oh boy did I feel THAT!!
Ty and Hali's story takes hold from the very start, I couldn't stop reading even if I wanted to and read it in one sitting, its angsty and steamy and every other emotion you can think of all wrapped up in one amazing story. Did I cry?...........oh hell yes I cried and then cried some more ,this story will resonate with so many people on so many different levels, and that is the amazing power of words. Samantha Lovelock's words flow beautifully giving the reader an experience not just a story and characters that you'll instantly fall in love with an know you'll need more from!
The Sky At Night is absolutely fantastic and definitely a story that will stay with me long after closing that last page ❤️
"I don't know what we take with us when our time here is up, but just incase, when we're old and gray and my time has come, I want the memory of this perfect moment to be with me in the next life."
This book was everything I anticipated it would be and more! I devoured this story I read it on a plane as I’m a nervous flyer and needed something to keep my mind occupied and it definitely did the job because the next thing I knew we were landing I just couldn’t put it down it’s emotional and angsty with a juicy slow burn romance its a very heavy story that touches on heavy topics the author really did a amazing job with this story. I’m going to be honest I never liked Hali I loathed her in the Folkestone series but Samantha did a excellent job on redeeming her or getting us to see why she was always playing the villain and my heart absolutely ached for her I loved Ty these two were perfect together the chemistry was amazing I loved the friendships and the steam was on fire this is definitely a book I recommend! Loved it!
I was not prepared for the emotional upheaval I felt through this book. Broody rockstar meets an angry woman, filled with complex emotions, and with a journey that takes you up and down! I shed many tears with them, I won't lie. These two absolutely have my heart. I never expected to be grabbed by their story. I might have cursed the author. It happens!
If you want a light and fluffy read, this is not for you. If you want something with angst, emotion, and the emerging of a beautiful butterfly from a broken cocoon, this is what you need.
I encourage you to read the trigger warnings in the beginning.
I was pulled into this book and could not stop reading it very quick and easy read check you trigger warnings love the chemistry between the two characters I hope that Vanessa and kess get their story too
If you are looking for a romance that will rip your heart out, The Sky At Night by Samantha Lovelock is your next read. This angsty and gritty rockstar romance hit me with some hardcore feelings. The words are powerful here. Ty and Hali had a heartbreaking journey of healing and redemption while finding their soulmate in each other.
Famous band Heroin Heartbreak's lead singer Ty McInnis heads back to The Overlook, the wellness retreat for celebrities when the grief of his father’s death threatens relapse of his addiction. There he meets Hali Thornsten. At first look, he thinks she is some spoiled rich brat. But Hali is something else. Drowning in pain, anger and shame..she knows she should stay away from Ty. But their broken Souls call to each other. What will happen when Ty has to leave for the tour?
This story deals with some deep issues like mental health, addiction and trauma. Please proceed with caution if you have triggers. Hali is a character from Folkstone series but it doesn’t matter if you haven't read it. Everyone in her small town hates her because she was a cruel and vicious person who took the word mean girl to a new level. But no one saw her scars. Her abusive psycho father who manipulated and hurt her for his own good. Her cold hearted mother who never cared. She uses her sarcasm and bitterness like a shield. But The Overlook forced her to face her demons in a positive way. She meets some friends and peer who don't make her feel worthless and shameful. She starts to believe she is not complete evil. She starts to think that she can have a new beginning. Ty was not in her plan. This c0cky ahole rockstar riled her up at every chance. Because he was obsessed with her and he didn't know how to deal with it. He has his own emotional burden. He has his own scars. And that's why he recognized Hali's pain. They fought and pushed at the beginning attacking each other with barbed comments and wrathful banter. But they slowly came close by virtue of their darkness. This story just shredded me. The author decided to attack me with all the messy toxic overwhelming angst and I was just done! Love slowly healed them but it was not easy. People like Ty and Hali can self destruct so easily and it was a rollercoaster. The ending was just beautiful and made me cry. I feel the power of this story lies in the contrast of hopelessness and fresh start, despair and new friendship, anger and forgiveness, pain and healing..An absolute heart wrecker from Samantha Lovelock.
Book one in the brand new Heroin Heartbreak series is NOW LIVE and available in Kindle Unlimited!
From USA Today Bestselling Author Samantha Lovelock comes an emotional story of redemption, loss, and love. The Sky At Night is an enemies-to-lovers, rock star romance. This standalone, roller coaster ride of steam, angst, and raw emotion will leave you begging for more.
This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Samantha Lovelock!
The Sky At Night is the first book in Heroin Heartbreak series and tells the story of Ty and Hali.
I didn’t read the synopsis before starting The Sky At Night, and I’m glad that I did. I love reading books without knowing what it’s going to be about, and I knew that I was going to enjoy this book because I love Samantha Lovelock’s other books. I was really surprised when I read the first chapters because this book is about Hali, and we see a different side from her. Hali is a side character from the Folkestone Sins series by Samantha Lovelock. You don’t have to read that series before picking up this book, but I highly recommend it because those books are amazing!
The Sky At Night is about Ty and Hali. Ty is the lead singer of Heroin Heartbreak, and the loss of his father takes him back to The Overlook. Hali’s mum dumped her at The Overlook, and now she has to deal with her personal issues. I really loved reading about Ty and Hali’s pain, and how they dealt with it. I really hated Hali in the Folkestone Sins books, but now reading her side of the story makes everything different. Besides the drama and mental health issues, there’s also a romance brewing between Ty and Hali. I really loved both characters and I’m happy they got a happy ending!
The Sky At Night was such a good book and I’m so happy that I picked it up. At the beginning of the book I was still in a bit of a reading slump, but the more I read, the more I enjoyed reading again. Samantha Lovelock is such a talented Romance author, and she always mixes romance with drama. I LOVE IT! I really recommend The Sky At Night, and the Folkestone Sins books, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the Heroin Heartbreak series!
There is nothing more amazing to me in the fictional world than an author who can take the most wretched, deplorable, most unlikable character and make me freaking love them! Even more so when it's a female character because I'm a lot less forgiving of them.
But to do that AND make me bawl my eyes out.....only one other author has ever done that!
Damn, what a journey! I had to hate her first... otherwise, it wouldn't have hit as hard. Well played.
Kindle Unlimited: Yes Stand-alone: Yes** Author: Samantha Lovelock Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ Spiciness Rating: 2/5 🌶 POV: First Person Dual Perspective Main Couple: Hali and Ty Trope(s): Forced Proximity, Frenemies To Lovers, Rock Star, Trauma
If you have read the Folkstone Sins Series, Hali will be a familiar face, and not the good kind. I have to say that to take a character created in another series and redeem them is one helluva mountain to climb. Not only does Samantha climb it, she makes it her bitch. Holy hell, what a story. I was hooked from the start because I had to know all the things. I felt this story in my soul. It broke for Hali. But, watching her put her pieces back together was heartbreakingly beautiful. And, Ty, I felt his magnetism through the pages. Their connection is fast paced, but they fill the holes left by those who were supposed to love and protect them. This is a journey, y’all and we go through all the steps with Hali and Ty.
Ty Draven McInnis, front man of the band Heroin Heartbreak, rockstar, heartthrob, and all around bad boy in a gorgeous package. Reeling from the death of his father has turned to The Overlook once again for help he needs to navigate his pain and not spiral out of control.
Hali Torsten finds herself exiled from Folkstone, but it will enable her to escape all the carnage her father left behind even in death. The need to escape her mother and monsters is real and deep. Her father spent her entire childhood grooming her to be his best weapon. With a subtle threat from her mother who holds the purse strings, she finds herself at The Outlook, a residential therapy program. This could be the opportunity for her to forge her own path, not the self destructive one her father had her on.
Her roommate, Vann, refuses to let Halir self-destruct and their bond only intensifies as the weeks go on.
Hali begins to face her demons head on with Mari’s help. But, her therapy sessions bring the past to this present with a force that knocks Hali down a couple of times.
Hali and Ty have this one up thing going on. It brings sparks to the table each trying to gain the upper hand.
Hali pushes, but Ty refuses to accept her mean girl BS. Truths are bared. Souls are scorched. And, their connection is too strong to resist.
Ty does the one thing he never thought he would do again, let a female in.
Only, Hali knows she has to continue on her path without him.
What do you do when Samantha Lovelock drops a new book? You plan an entire evening to devour her words, and immerse yourself into the world she has created.
Ty and Hali are both tortured and together they bring a new kind of love/hate to this bully romance. The dual POV help you connect with the characters and their emotions in a way only Samantha Lovelock can. Truly a slow burn that will build up and combust.
I loved this story, but make sure you heed the trigger warnings. This story may be too emotional for some.
I absolutely loved reading this story and getting to see the real Hali from the Folkstone series. She is worst than Regina George off mean girls. But underneath all the tough, brutal, mean personality lies a girl who just wants to be loved, cherished and seen for who she is. She gets sent off to a rehab center where she meets rock star heart throb Ty McInnis. They both have their dark past and demons they need to lay to rest but that just makes them fall harder for each other and the tension between the two are off the charts. They help each other find their way to their true self and realize that people can change if they truly want to. I can't wait to continue on with this series. I have a feeling a certain two from this story will be the next main characters and I can't wait to see that story unfold.
