While walking in the park, the unimaginable happens, and Fitzwilliam Darcy is rendered unconscious. To assist his friend in his darkest hour, Charles Bingley begs Elizabeth Bennet to return to London with him and comfort Darcy. While she holds no warm regard for that disagreeable gentleman, Mrs Bennet seizes the opportunity to place her eldest daughters into the paths of two eligible bachelors.
What happens when Elizabeth learns that everything she knows about Darcy ia false?
This sweet Regency romance begins as Darcy and his housemates leave Hertfordshire.
Darcy suffers a concussion and other injuries when attacked and robbed while walking in Hyde Park. When he calls out for Elizabeth, his friend, Bingley rushes to Longbourn and pleads with Elizabeth to accompany him to London to offer comfort to Darcy. Jane also accompanies them. Chaperones are provided.
Thus Elizabeth becomes aware of Darcy's feeling for her. Darcy's recovery, including an injured leg, takes considerable time and Darcy is not allowed time alone with Elizabeth...time he wants to offer for her hand.
This story has, of course, many pages in which we read of this couple getting to know each other better. Things are complicated by Lady Catherine's moves to marry Anne to Darcy. The two families do get to know each other better; with Georgiana being happy to be gaining a sister.
Wickham is a problem but is dealt with differently in this story.
The language did not flow as smoothly as I expected. And I found myself not quite accepting that Elizabeth would do off to London just on Bingley's request, considering that she held Darcy in disdain.
So Bingley takes it upon himself to go and retrieve her to help his friend. I liked the way Wickham and Lady Catherine are dealt with and the sweet romance that ensues. A most entertaining story.
Fitzwilliam Darcy is attacked in the park in London post Netherfield ball. In his delirium he calls for Elizabeth Bennet. Friends and family bring her to his side and remove all pride and prejudice. From there the story is a lot of effort to be together and happily ever after.
It wasn’t bad but also didn’t have a lot of substance.
Darcy is hurt pretty bad and is talking about Lizzy while in an almost coma. Bingley, trying to help, rushes from London to Longbourn to bring Lizzy to Darcy . Lizzy doesn’t really like Darcy and these circumstances lead to many plot threads.
I’m not sure why but I always like this author’s books. I liked this one also.
Despite her aversion for Fitzwilliam Darcy after his insult at the Meryton Assembly and supposed wrongdoing towards Wickham, Elizabeth Bennet travels to London with sister Jane in the hopes of comforting the badly bruised and injured Mr. Darcy after a run-in with robbers. It is upon the urging of Charles Bingley that the Bennet sisters lend their support to Darcy and his extended family ever since he has repeatedly asked for her.
Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, Darcy had been in love with her ever since his time in Hertfordshire and it was while Mr. Darcy is recuperating that she realizes his devotion to her and his honorable character. As Elizabeth slowly falls in love with Mr. Darcy, many other characters seek to keep the couple apart. They provide the angst for this story in addition to Elizabeth’s doubts about Mr. Darcy’s constancy.
All in all, a variation neatly wrapped with a beautiful bow towards the end, once the lovers are assured of their love for each other. A sweet story that shows a most compassionate and kind, yet passionate and strong-willed Elizabeth.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is a regency romance story that begins as Darcy and his housemates leave Hertfordshire. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
3 1/2 rounded up to 4 Overall, it is a quick read, and I will probably read it again. We find Darcy and the Bingleys have departed Netherfield and are back in London. Darcy is attached by muggers and in his addled state calls for Elizabeth. His family is trying anything to keep him alive. Bingley, in his I do anything quick without thinking, rushes back to Longbourn and convinces Elizabeth and Jane to return to London with him. Some of the things that happen I had to suspend reality as I couldn't imagine it truly happening. If you want to story where Darcy and Elizabeth come together faster than canon, this will fit that.
I had read the unpublished draft on the boards before. On a reread, this is still a nice quick read. After the Netherfield ball, Darcy gets mugged in London and while he's delirious he's asking for Elizabeth. Bingley fetches her. Despite Elizabeth's former animosity, it turns into a bit of an instaluv story, until everyone gets fussed about Elizabeth and Jane's presence at the Darcy house. Lady Catherine attempts to interfere. Once they deal with her the rest is smooth sailing.
This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read! One of my greatest pleasures in reading this book, was the very rare treat of seeing Mrs B being loving and supportive of Elizabeth without Mr B being evil in any way. I especially loved that Mrs B was still often her exuberant and inappropriate self, while still being a loving and supportive mother to all of her daughters.
I thought the story was good. The storyline was different from most I've read. I found it dragged on a bit for me. Most everything could have been accomplished in a short novella with the same pleasant outcome. Caroline barely existed, Lady CdB. was awful. Collins was his weasely self. I probably will not read this again as it was so drawn out, however, I do not regret reading it once.
While the beginning was slow paced it grew and developed. Lady Catherine was awful, Wickham was only discussed (amen to that), Caroline had very little coverage, and Georgianna I Love this portrayal of her. The Bennet family was not overly done! This variation is a unique, sweet and clean variation. I recommend for all ages of readers.
This was non stop love sick moon calf Darcy! He is clubbed in the head and when he regains semi consciousness he is calling for non other than Elizabeth Bennett. And it begins, the love story that develops between the forbidden fruit.
I found this book to be slightly flat, did not resonant with this authors usual exuberance imo. But it was interesting and I enjoyed some parts very much.
After reading so many variations where most of the background characters are villains, it was refreshing to find one where only one of the usual suspects behaves worse than in original.
I love the “what ifs” posed through these Pride and Prejudice variations! They make reading a beloved Classic so much fun! It’s like playing mental chess when describing these stories for fellow Darcy lovers!
One thing that always jumps out to me in the P&P variations that I've read is the way that Lizzy discovers Whickham's lies. This one happens in a way where Darcy is not involved, and I struggle a little with this as I see it as a crucial moment for Darcy and Lizzy. But this was a fun one non the less.
