I don't like this, at all.

Lets start with the Jack Skellington fake out. Jack in this story is not that Jack. The "Pumpkin King" for this book is a man named Jack Hollow. I genuinely prefer to have an original character in this case, I was disappointed to piggy back off of an established character, but I wasn't any happier when it was revealed that he was Jack Hollow. He is not described until after we know he isn't Skellington, which I can only assume is intentional to trick people into reading along because they were drawn in by the nightmare character.

The villain is also obvious, won't spoil who it is for those that haven't read it yet, but I called it from the literal first interaction we have with this character. But it's even worse when the book ENDS with the calling card that could be from no other character. I am fine with a cliffhanger, but it was just a nothing burger of a reveal.

I hate Nicholas, just full stop. His chapters are boring, his character sucks, and I can't stand him. He also has no character development, but is clearly supposed to be a love interest by the end of the book.

I think my biggest issue is that the author tells way more than they show. Blair is supposedly Nick himself is meant to have this serious

Then theirs the marriage thing. I get that for the plot Blair and Nick have to marry, but there is literally no good reason beyond that. The marriage doesn't benefit Halloween at all. It takes their heir away, and her younger sister could easily be married off instead, and it doesn't actually protect anyone. The whole point is to combine the power! But Nick doesn't have any power until Kris dies, so the only power being brought to the table is Blairs, which she could contribute without marriage. Then you have the fact that they could have just worked together and there was no need for an actual marriage, aside from the plot.

I like Blair, I liked Kris, I like Cane I LOVE Krampus, and I think Vlad is a cool guy.

The only reason I'd read the next one is to tie of the mystery... if I care enough to read it when it comes out.

I have not read anything by this author before, but the cover caught my eye, along with the description of the story having to do with Halloween and Christmas. I ended up liking it, although I didn't realize it ends on a sad note and a cliffhanger. So, if you hate being left hanging, you might want to wait until this series is finished, lol!

While it took me a loooooong time to warm up to young Nick (okay, I never really warmed up to him, but I did start to feel sorry for him towards the end), I was definitely on Blair's side, at least once I stopped yelling at her for taking every bit of abuse from Crystal and her buddies, not to mention Nick himself. While there is an obvious connection between Blair and Nick (because of the blood thing during the wedding?), I would much prefer her and Nick eventually becoming friends, but Cane being her one and only, because despite whatever spell Nick is under, he's a spoiled brat and he doesn't deserve her. I will be rather disappointed if her relationship with Cane comes to naught.

I also wished that they would have spent more time showing us Blair's powers, beyond being able to portal with the leaves of a magical tree. It's clear that she has them, but we have no idea what they are. With all the abuse that was heaped on her, I was expecting her to at least display some of her power, if only to make them think twice about pulling horrible pranks (let's face it, it was abuse) on her.

My favorite characters were Vlad, Cane, and Krampus and I really hope we see a lot more of them in the future books.

Despite some of the frustrations with this book, I do want to continue with this series, if only to figure out the details of what has been plaguing the holiday lands.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from BookSirens and the Publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. A fun romp through the holiday tree glade from the nightmare before Christmas. Blair, the heir of Halloween, feels honour-bound to follow her father’s directive and marry Nick, the heir of Christmas, to show strength and unity between the two strong villages.

While I liked Blair, I kept waiting for her spine to show up. Unfortunately it never did. She tolerates the injustices against her and never really does anything about them other than whine and mope.

Nick never really shows what he’s really capable of. It’s pretty obvious that there’s some nefarious stuff going on behind the scenes and that Nick may actually be a decent person but he never gets the chance.

I’ve already preordered the final book so that I can see exactly where everything ends up in the end.

Received from BookSirens in exchange for an honest review.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. As soon as I found out this book takes place in a magical realm where each territory is controlled by one of our major holidays I was sold on the book. The through reading it I ended up really enjoying the world building, and how each territory was so true to its Holiday. It felt like being transported into A Nightmare Before Christmas but with horror elements. It was a fun read for anyone who really enjoyed that movie as a child and wanted something similar with some additional dark twists.

This book I received as an advance reader copy through BookSirens, with the request to leave an honest review.

I am giving this book 4.5⭐, but since I can't give half stars here, I give a full five.

And here are my thoughts on the book.
When starting the book. I somehow missed the obvious clue about the place the action was taking place and/or the main character in that part of the story🫣
It was a good way to indicate different storylines though, and even though later on in the book I didn't need a hint anymore, it still was a nice touch, a small drawing above each chapter.
So much about the appearance of the book.

Now something about the story and the characters in it.
Starting with the story, there's really nothing that bothered me, annoyed me or made me wish I hadn't requested this book. On the contrary, when I started reading and I got the hang of the story, I had a hard time putting it down. I was too curious to find out what would happen next.
The characters are okay. Blair is an interesting young woman, although I think she's a bit too naive and trusting.
Pairing her with Nick, a drunk who only wants to party and 'hang out' with girls, is an interesting thing to do. Nick is an unlikable character (even taken into consideration what I found out near the end of this first book).

Haven as a safe place for all creatures magical is a nice find. Where most, if not Anglo-Saxon Holidays have their own place. Halloween, Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day. All headed by their leading representative and trying to find a way to overcome the troubles that they face.
Santa Claus, Krampus, Vlad, the Easter Bunny, Blair's father, they all appear as characters in this book. Some have a bigger role than others, but in general to me their character here more or less seems 'true to character'. As far as I can say anything about that, because the originals are fiction as well AND I've not grown up with any of them in stories or featuring in holidays.

At the bottom of the request form for this book was a warning, that I should be aware this is part 1.
Now I know why... I really want to go on reading part 2 as well!

A Holiday Hexing is a delightful seasonal read that blends cozy mystery, gentle magic, and festive charm into a thoroughly enjoyable story. From the opening pages, the book draws readers into a wintry setting that feels warm and inviting, filled with twinkling lights, holiday traditions, and just the right hint of supernatural intrigue.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its atmosphere. The author captures the spirit of the holidays beautifully, balancing cheer and comfort with a touch of mystery that keeps the plot engaging. The magical elements are woven naturally into the story, enhancing the narrative without overwhelming it, making the book accessible even for readers who don’t usually gravitate toward fantasy.

The characters are another highlight. The fmc is likable, relatable, and easy to root for, while the supporting cast adds humor, heart, and personality to every scene. Their interactions feel genuine, and the sense of community adds to the cozy tone that defines the book. As the mystery unfolds, clues are cleverly placed, encouraging readers to follow along and try to solve the puzzle themselves.

A Holiday Hexing also shines in its pacing. The story moves smoothly, with enough twists to maintain interest while still allowing space for quieter, character-driven moments. It’s the kind of book that feels comforting rather than stressful, making it perfect for curling up with during the holiday season.

Overall, A Holiday Hexing is a charming, uplifting read that delivers festive magic, engaging mystery, and heartfelt moments. It’s an excellent choice for fans of cozy mysteries and anyone looking for a light, feel-good holiday escape.

I hate giving negative reviews, but unfortunately this will be one.

Literally nothing happens for 70% of this book, nothing. The FMC is so annoying and all you read is her inner monologue of her day to day life, for months on end.

The MMC is probably the worse person I have ever read about and has zero redeeming qualities. I genuinely do not understand why these two had to get married, to solve murders together. Well that would mean that they would actually have to do interact together to do so! The is zero chemistry between the two, apart from it mentioning that there is electricity when they touch, which does not make up for lack of interaction. Months pass by while she is just sat in her apartment doing nothing, just waiting. Absolutely no murder mystery investigating going on.

I had an inkling early on to who the murdered was, because why else would that character be introduced, other than being a suspect.

I feel like the author had a good idea but then didn't do enough research/plot building before putting the story on paper. The only positive is that it was a pretty short book, but then again this could have been due to the lack of world building. I really love a long book and thought this would be an easy read with it being less than 300 pages, but I really had to tell myself to pick it up. I nearly DNF at 65% but was hopeful that the story would pick up. It does pick up a little bit but not much and then it ends on a cliff hanger.

When I started this story? Series debut? I was drawn in by what sounded like a compelling story line/ plot and some strong characters and others not so strong. I was drawn in by a mix of Halloween and Christmas coming together and how murder would blend together. I also noticed that pumpkin king was used but we never get to know of all of his power or any other leaders powers work or what they can do.There was a lot of foreshadowing and not enough build up to keep us guessing which was a bit of a disappointment.

Plus the FMC was literally assaulted in public and nothing serious was done that the FMC knew of and when she did know something else has to happen. I love the fact that she was told to be herself and not to try to blend in to Christmas town/ City, but I can’t help but feel that the timing for that was too plotting. I wish we got to explore our FMCs life before she was forced to marry to save her village. We get little bursts of her power/ energy at times and then nothing. I wish there was more character relationship development between the FMC and MMC before things were escalating. Not to mention there is so much drug use for the MMC I’m surprised he is still alive… Must be that Christmas magic? I assume.

Let’s see if we get more answers in the next one! I received an Advanced Reader Copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily

A Hexing Holiday is the “in-between holiday” book I didn’t know I needed. As a seasonal reader, November always leaves me torn between Halloween/fall reads and Christmas stories, so naturally, A Hexing Holiday was the perfect transition book.

From the very first pages, I was invested in the story and the dilemmas Blair was going through. I loved the subtle mix of magic, mystery, and “kinda” romance that the story blends so effortlessly. The whole vibe feels like being snuggled up in a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa.

I loved the mentions of all the tales characters and the concept of Haven as a whole

It’s definitely a book I’d recommend to anyone looking for cozy vibes sprinkled with a bit of mystery and a strong FMC (I love Blair so much!). My only wish is that the magic system had been explored a bit more, that Nick's character development would be a bit more progressive and that the cliffhanger was a bit less brutal it deserved one or 2 more chapters in my opinion.

I can’t wait for Book 2!

This is cozy paranormal romance done right—festive, magical, and delightfully mischievous. Nicole Jamison kicks off the Spooky Seasons series with a story that feels like curling up with a mug of something warm while spells crackle in the background and sparks fly where you least expect them.

The atmosphere is the real star here. Jamison blends holiday charm with witchy vibes in a way that feels playful rather than heavy. The magic is light but meaningful, the setting feels lived-in and cozy, and the seasonal elements enhance the story instead of overwhelming it. It’s spooky in a comforting way, not a scary one.

The characters are easy to love. The heroine is relatable and spirited, and the romantic tension is sweet with just enough bite to keep things interesting. The chemistry builds naturally, mixing humor, warmth, and just a touch of magical chaos. It’s the kind of romance that makes you smile more than once while reading.

The pacing is smooth and accessible, making this a great choice for a quick, satisfying read. Jamison keeps things moving without rushing the emotional beats, and the story wraps up in a way that feels complete while still leaving you excited for what the series might bring next.

I am a huge nightmare before Christmas fan and an rl stine fan and this book felt very much like a combo of both.
I’d say this book is for high school age and above with easy repetitive writing and basic dialogue and plot.
I felt Kris and Nick were pretty well developed as characters but wish Blair and Jack were. We obviously know the character of Santa and Kris fit, Nick was also easy to see as spoiled heir and loser. Blair was from Halloween and had some powers but those are just touched on as are Jack’s. Are they goth? The house doesn’t make it seem so, no haunted house vibes. Blair is dark completed but little else is mentioned. She seems naive, scared/timid and mousish for most the book with a couple of moments of intimidation. I guess I would have expected her character to be scarier even if it was just on the surface.
There isn’t a lot of details about the difference between humans and characters of Haven, I am picturing the Christmas characters looking like humans but with slightly pointy ears. Nothing makes them feel any different except the holiday colors and seasons.
I am looking forward to the next book.

A Hexing Holiday is a cozy, feel-good witchy romp with just enough sparkle to make you want a mug of cocoa and a string of twinkle lights. Nicole Jamison nails the small-town, snow-dusted vibes and balances light magic with real-world stakes—family expectations, old hurts, and the messy hope of second chances. The spells are whimsical without getting cutesy, the banter lands, and the romantic tension warms up like a hearth fire. I especially loved the found-family moments and the way holiday traditions are woven into the magic system; it gives the story heart.

Why not 5 stars? The middle sags a touch, with a few repetitive beats and a conflict that resolves a bit too neatly. I also wanted a deeper dive into the rules of the magic—there are hints of something richer that never fully crystallize.

Still, this is charming, comforting, and seasonally perfect. If you like gentle witchcraft, small-town festivities, and a swoony, cinnamon-spiced romance, add this to your holiday TBR.

People are being murdered in Christmas City and no one knows who is doing it or why. The only way to stop it is to combine powers between Christmas City and Halloween Town. The daughter of the pumpkin king and the son of Santa Claus must marry to combine the power of the realms and solve this mystery.
The premise of this book intrigued me, but honestly this book fell short for me. Why did they need to marry? Couldn’t they have just formed an alliance to discover the answers? There was little chemistry between Blair and Nick and I did not want them to be together. I also didn’t think Blair was as much of a bad ass as they wanted her to be. She gets bullied even though she is supposed to be this super powerful person. Of she is so powerful that they need to push her into this marriage, why is she such an easy target for people to bully? It made no sense to me. I honestly don’t think I will continue the series.

Thank you to Book Sirens and publishers for providing me with an ARC of this novel.

This book? An absolute holiday fever dream in the best possible way.

Blair—daughter of the Skeleton King—has “I will save my realm even if I have to stab the air itself” energy, and I adore her for it. Nick, the heir to the Santa Claus mantle, shows up like trouble wearing peppermint cologne. Together? Chaotic. Hilarious. Weirdly perfect.

The vibes are immaculate: spooky meets festive, shadows meets snowflakes, duty meets “sir, please get your life together.”
The worldbuilding? Chef’s kiss.
The tension? A full buffet.
The banter? Unhinged in all the right ways.

This book gives:
🎃 x 🎄 energy
political drama
magical mayhem
and a duo who clash so hard it sparks.

If you want a story that feels like Halloween and Christmas got forced into couples therapy and accidentally fell in love with the chaos—run, don’t walk.

Five stars. Because Haven deserves better, and this book absolutely delivers.

Wow ! What a way to mix the holidays with murder and a love triangle ! You get Blair the woman from Halloween married to Nick the male from Christmas, who has a Valentine girlfriend . Add in murder that never happens in the Haven and you have a huge who done it as well as does the history of the making of Haven have anything to do with it ? Fantastic characters, the storyline is fast paced once you get through the introduction of all the characters and places involved. I will say I have a good idea who’s involved, but I’m not telling ! Oh, it ends on a huge cliffhanger, so be aware of that ( especially if you’re like me and detest them, ) but it’s a necessary one, so I give the author a pass. 5✨’s for an amazing book 1 in the series. I received an ArC copy and leaving a review voluntarily.

I requested this arc on Booksirens because the plot drew me in. A Halloween and Christmas book. Absolutely the perfect combo. Then it started feeling like a Nightmare before Christmas inspired story. Cool. I love NMBC.

Personally for me, it did not hit the spot, and that’s ok. It was obviously a 5 star read for others so it may be for you.

I do not want to dive in about what I did not like in the book, so I’ll say why I did enjoy. The FMC is a very lovable character, Kris was the epitome of Santa, and Cane and Winter (bodyguards) truly loved and protected Blaire(FMC). The plot has potential and could be something great with little bit of tweaking (in my opinion, again my views are not the same as others).

The book ends on a cliffhanger and does not end happily.

A Hexing Holiday had a lot of potential with its opening as a sort of Nightmare Before Christmas-like world where the holidays coexist with an unseen evil requiring an alliance between Halloween and Christmas in the form of an arranged marriage. Told almost entirely from the perspective of the daughter of Halloween, Blair, the story unfolds as she navigates a seemingly very un-jolly court in Christmas.

With a waste of a husband with his accompanying side piece and some overt age gap crushing on Santa, there was a LOT going on with this story. I think, a little too much even for a series starter. It was just a little difficult to get into the story and be invested with the main character or root for her HEA with the main male character who showed little promise for improvement.

3.5*

I loved the idea behind this book and wanted to love it SO much more than I did. Advertised as a romance, I have to say I felt 0% of the chemistry between Nick and Blair or Blaire and Cane. For me, the whole thing fell flat and was too predictable. I feel like this would be classified better as YA, because even the more “hard” topics, weren’t anything crazy bad and stuff teens talk about or see daily in 2025. I feel I connected with too few characters, and I knew their ending from their introduction which made it hard to continue the story. I was delaying the inevitable, essentially.

Towards the last few chapters this one picked up a bit and based on the last few sentences I will be reading the rest of the series to see if my theories pan out. I feel this has potential and as a series could get better with more books as the author gets more comfortable in her writing style!

If you’re looking for the perfect between-season read, something that blends leftover spooky-season vibes with the early sparkle of Christmas magic, this one delivers. It’s cozy, a little witchy, a little festive, and honestly such a fun transition from fall into winter.

The romance is sweet yet sassy with just the right hit of chemistry, and the mystery threaded through the story kept me flipping pages way past bedtime. The whole vibe feels like sipping a warm drink in a small magical town where the décor is equal parts pumpkins and twinkle lights. Truly elite seasonal energy.

And that ending?? I was dying for the next one. If you love a holiday read with a side of spells, secrets, and just enough swoon to make your heart melt, this is an absolute must-read for your between-season TBR.

I wasn’t sure about this or Blair as a main character until I hit chapter 3 and then a few chapters later I was hooked.

The fact that all the denizens of Haven are ‘mythical’(?) beings in no way detracts from

the fact that this is a darn good whodunnit murder mystery. Blair really steps up as the story progresses and I personally admire her grit, fortitude and willingness to do what is right for ALL denizens of Haven humanoid or other. I particularly liked her interactions with her Christmas guard retinue, Krampus and Vlad.

Spoiler, this is only part one of a continuing storyline and I for one will be waiting anxiously for the next portion!

A Hexing Holiday

Where Halloween meets Christmas, an arranged marriage between the two. But 10 people found dead in the woods joining the worlds? Kris Kringle is very welcoming, Nick is not welcoming at all to Blair. Crystal is Nick's fling that constantly rubs their relationship in Blair's face, as well as sabotaging her any chance she gets. Blair isolates herself for weeks after she is sabotaged at the ball, rightfully so. She wants to plan her revenge the Hallows way. When the two that tormented Blair end up dead, Blair runs encountering Krampus and Dracula on her way. Then Nick comes to the door ready to be friends and help Blair. Blair and Nick have their moment, but that moment leads up to devastation times two. What happens next? I can't wait to read book two to find out!

Wonderful written, I get interested fron the very beginning and I love the different characters. I feel like is a perfect reading for a spooky Christmas or a Christmasy Halloween, and it gives me A Nightmare before Christmas vibes, which is a movie (and a book from my childhood too!) that I truly love. I really imagine Jack Hollow as Jack Skeleton ❤️

Blair is my favourite character so far, she is strong, determined, clever and reliable, she doesn't need anyone to be safe. And Nick seems awful but I think it's not all like it seems to be… We'll see in book 2 I hope!

I really enjoyed the book and I read it in just 2 days.

I was super excited to read A Hexing Holiday because who doesn't like a mystery set in holiday lands. The book absolutely did not disappoint. It was very well written and the different lands, especially Halloween and Christmas were detailed to the point that I wanted to be there instead of just reading it. Blair would have to be my favorite character but all the characters were well written. I am sad that it ended on a cliffhanger but that just means I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out.

This is the first book that I have read that combines people from the land of Halloween and Christmas. Blair has to marry Nick in order to save their respective lands. Each character is their own person and some are viewed in a better light than others. Also mentioned are the lands of Easter and Valentine’s Day, and the human realm. There seems to be a secretive group that is interested in the destruction of those not human. I found this book very interesting. The characters were very believable and the story is about two of my favorite subjects. This book does end on a cliffhanger so more information needs to be found in the next book.

Great Cozy Autumn/Fall atmosphere which kept me effortlessly reading. Loved all the pop culture mentions of different movies, characters or monster/creatures. I definitely went into this thinking that it was about a very specific Skeleton King and Nicholas but it was not about them at all. So the blurb and/or summary are misleading. With that in mind I did love that the names always perfectly corresponded with the world or festive father. Thank You BookSirens and Publisher for my free ARC so I could review this novel.

Love how this story combines Christmas and Halloween but at certain times it did feel like it was heavily inspired by a certain Disney movie . I did enjoy it more when it didn’t feel like that. The FMC Blair was likable and a very interesting. There were a few hits and misses with the other characters. I do wish they explored Blairs power a tidbit more. All in all it was a decent read and I really would like to see how the story progresses

It’s a blend of a cozy holiday magic, mystery, festive charm while mixing Halloween and Christmas together and that I can get behind bringing the spook to Christmas. The atmosphere of this book is everything is It’s was almost like being brought into the nightmare before Xmas only it had an element of horror with some twist and not so friendly and much darker.

I loved Kris, Cane and we can’t forget Krumpus. I wish Blair would have grown as a charter in this book and got a back bone she so desperately needed.

This story drew me in with strong characters and a compelling world, though I struggled to warm to Nick and found Blair’s powers under-explored. I’m firmly Team Cane and hope their connection deepens, as Nick felt too spoiled and undeserving of her. Despite frustrations, Vlad, Cane and Krampus shone brightly, and I’m eager to continue the series to uncover more of the mysteries surrounding the holiday lands.
