First he made me his for a night. Then he made me his forever.

On a dark, stormy night, a stranger stripped me bare in my own hotel room, spanked my ass red, and then pinned me to the bed and turned my most shameful fantasies into raw, filthy reality.

No names. No commitments.

Then I returned to my life, thinking I'd seen the last of the gorgeous Marine turned mountain man who rutted me like a beast while I screamed loud enough for the whole building to hear.

But fate had other plans.

With a killer leaving a trail of death in Danger Falls, my job as a park ranger required me to hire a tracker, and the man turned out to be the same chiseled god who made me his once already.

And this time he's not letting me go after just one night.

Publisher's  Shephard is the first book in the Mountain Men of Danger Falls series but can be read as a standalone. It includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was an astonishing book to read, I couldn't put this book down from start to the end, the story was written well and with great depth and the characters were sensational. It had so many twist and turns, action, suspense, steamy, intense, spanking, BDSM, passion, pain, pleasure and many more emotions throughout including a little bit of triggers. I loved how both characters were ex-military Shephard Fox was former Marine who was Black Ops mercenary. Denise, is ex-military had a lot of hassles and left, now a Park Ranger with Pepper in Danger Falls. The chemistry between these two is electrifying and I cannot wait until the next book comes out.

Okay read

I enjoyed the dynamics between Shephard and Denise, from their explosive first encounter to their finding home. The story? I was left wanting. It was sketchy to me. Short on details. We were left with little real information but a lot of innuendo and my own imagination. Everything appears to have been resolved, but has it really. Not an entirely satisfying ending. The book did keep my interest until the end, but I do feel let down. Just my humble opinion.

“Shephard” is the first book in the “Mountain Men of Danger Falls Series.” He is considered a ghost, nicknamed the “Killer” and employed by the government for Black Opps and off the book assignments. He has remained anonymous throughout his career, with a hefty bounty on his head in at least a dozen countries. Now he has “retired” and on his way home …. along with his two brothers. They have been summoned by their parents.

Denise is ex-military and an ex-detective, working currently as a ranger at Danger Falls, with Pepper, her dog. She is hiding from her abusive ex and leaving her career as a detective behind that she loved. Whilst staying at a roadside motel, they meet each other at the Bar & Grill across the road - the attraction is intense! “Her voice was as sultry as the exterior package. My entire body was on fire, the shot of electricity weaving from one to the other damn powerful.” After a very intense and unforgettable one night stand together, they go there separate ways.

“…. there was no doubt his eyes were the most awesome shade of whiskey or even cognac, deep and rich with gold highlighting his irises.”
But I knew better. She was gorgeous, more so than any other woman I’d seen in one hell of a long time. With copper-colored hair, hazel eyes, and long dark lashes that augmented her stunning and very natural beauty ….”

Shephard Fox and his brothers have been called home by their father to take over the running of the family resort as he is unwell. Denise is investigating a series of murders in the state forrest. Whilst in the local hardware store, she literally runs into a wall of muscle with the most amazing and hypnotising eyes. It’s him! “He was so strong that when he pulled me into his arms, he flung me straight into his massive body.”

Prepare for a story full of twists, turns around every corner, loyalty and betrayal, power and control and sizzling heat. This is a story you won't be able to put down - you will be totally hooked! The story is very fast paced and full of twists and turns! You have danger, betrayal, love, tears, death, power, action and passion. The more they work together on her case, Shephard begins to realise that they could be entwined, and not in a good way! His past is coming back to haunt You could cut the air with a knife - one thing leads to another … the lines become blurred.

I absolutely loved this story! I was hooked by the first chapter and I could not put it down. The suspense will have you, metaphorically, on the edge of your chair. I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story ♥️ From page to page, chapter to chapter, from cover to cover - you will enjoy this beautiful story! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊

Shephard

Mountain Men of Danger Falls, Book 1

By: Piper Stone
Narrated by: Skyler Morgan

Stunning! The building anticipation … perfection! I loved Shephard and Denise!

Overall: 5 of 5 stars Performance: 5 of 5 stars Story 5 of 5 stars
Reviewed: 01-15-25

Denise Parker … A park ranger with attitude, sass, a quick temper … and a past! But Denise’s past can’t hold a candle to Shephard’s … Burly, bearded, tattooed, mountain man Shephard Fox … he wants no part of a future with ANYONE! When he and Denise meet .. they are like oil and water … or more to the point, like gas and a flame! He just can’t keep his … uh … mitts off her! And as for Denise’s trusty K9 Pepper, well she has her own opinion! When the nefarious put the future of Danger Falls and all Denise holds dear in jeopardy … it’s up to Shephard to put that past behind him and work WITH Denise if they’re to secure any type of future! This, THIS is an out of this world FABULOUS listen. The plot, the narration, the mystery, suspense and building anticipation, EVERYTHING is PERFECTION! Ohhhh and the heat, scorching! I loved Shephard and I really, really REALLY loved Denise. The brass bahls and sass on that girl, fabulous! I really felt for Shep and all he had been through! I also loved his brothers Jagger and Hunter, and WHOA that dynamic between them! No spoilers, but my breath is positively bated for their stories! The narration was brilliant and beautiful! Perfectly timed, perfectly accented, and emotionally on point throughout, I was held spellbound, throughly in the moment with these characters, captivated by their story, feeling the emotion right along with them. I felt mesmerized as this beautifully tense, soulful, action packed story played out! This one really had it all and I loved every single beautifully written, magnificently narrated second! Five stars across all categories cause I can’t give the twenty it deserves! “Shephard” is truly stunning and I truly loved every single second!

Captivating read, a murderer on the loose and a town trying to hide its psychopath
Denise and her dog pepper work as a team on the sheriff and mountain rescue team a woman of many hats as well as a retired police officer. She had decided to return home to the mountains and people she cared for rather than the city after she had left the military.
She knows that there is a serial killer working in the area and has been trying to find a definite link and it seems as though she might be on to something, the killer obviously thinks so. He has already nearly succeeded in killing her and would have if it had not been for Shepherd Fox the man that had stopped her falling too her death off the mountain.
Shepherd cannot help himself for the first time since returning home to Danger Falls and agreeing to taking over the hotel and winery along with his two younger brothers for at least a year since discovering their father was ill. How he had managed to fall into bed with this woman miles from home and then bump into her again and realise she was a sheriff and police officer and mountain rescuer working in his hometown is more than a huge surprise.
Now that he has only barely saved her life and started showing an interest in the murder threatening their community and also their hotel trade, he begins to realise that he has far more invested in Denise and Pepper than he originally thought.
I guarantee that you will be blown away by this amazing read it is simply captivating and the plot is so well written, it keeps you guessing right to the very end.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Shepherd is a loner. He was in the marines and then became a mercenary. He killed people on a regular basis for the good of the world. But he is dangerous, deadly, expert hunter, vicious and without emotions. It also added to his need to not need people, to be elusive and alone - always on the edge. He has been called home for a family meeting by his parents - very important. He doesn’t have regular communications with his family. Hasn’t talked to his brothers in years, they both went on to do the same type of work as he had - mercenary. During his travels to his parents lodge thru the back roads he comes across a bar. An unusual place for one. He stops in for the night and runs into a sassy, feisty, tough and beautiful woman named Denise. She challenges him and that has never happened before. This woman is as guarded and secretive as he is. Their connection is dark and aggressive, maybe dangerous. They are both highly intelligent so when it comes to what is happening on the mountain they are very closed up. This story brings all the drama, suspense, danger, death, steam, sizzle, passion and possible feelings of some kind- something foreign to him. How starts to wonder how he is going to keep her alive? How is he going to explain who he is and what he did for a living? There is something explosive about their chemistry, electricity when they touch. But they do not want to deal with it.It will be a life changing experience. It will keep you intrigued and turning the page. It’s a dark and dangerous story with unique characters and a unique storyline. There may be some light coming at the end! Very different from what I normally read but amazingly great story!.

Two peas in a pod.

Call the fire department! There’s 5-star heat in this book. Denise, a former police detective, settles in a small town as a park ranger with her service dog Pepper, after her disaster of a wedding. Shephard, a deep black operative, returns home to find his father issuing a mandetory family meeting invitation with no RSVP, for him and his brothers. His father is not one to take lightly having old ties to the underworld. Shephard is chilling out at a bar close to the motel he is staying at and he sees a woman across the bar, that woman is Denise. Denise has just arrived to get dinner for her and Pepper. There has been a murder in the mountains that is worse than any Denise has seen in a long time. That heat starts when Shephard and Denise have a tension break in her motel room. From this point another murder occurs and Shephard is running his father’s resort along with his brothers. Heat explodes between Denise and Shephard while each deal with some demons. Will they come together to solve the mysteries and will someone else get killed by the serial killer runs around in the woods? Please read the trigger warnings before you read the book. I can assure you it is one hot mystery packed story.

Shepard is the first installment in Piper Stone’s Men of Danger Falls series. In it she chronicles the romantic journey of Denise Paker, a former police detective and now park ranger, and Shephard Fox, an ex-marine and black ops mercenary. Destiny brings them together when Shephard returns to Danger Falls to join his brothers in running the family’s resort. When they meet there is an instant and intense attraction which both parties fight due to their emotional wounds and scars and their professional experiences. When a threat from Shephard’s past zeroes in on him and Denise, how will they react? Can Denise solve the mystery behind the horrendous recent murders? How will this threat impact their romantic feelings? Will Shepard vanquish his emotional demons and the real-life villain pursing them? To find out what happens you must read this book.
Once again, Ms. Stone pens another captivating romantic suspense. She masterfully uses literary devices like dialog, dual POV, and descriptive language to move her plot line along at a well paced speed. The characters are likeable. The dual POV allows readers to get a better understanding of the characters. The support of the secondary characters—the DDs and the Lgs—create a strong and close family atmosphere. I enjoy how Ms. Stone blends in a bit of suspense into this tale to captivates her reader’s attention. I also enjoy that each installment in this series can be read either independently or sequentially in this series.

not my favorite

So, for starters, I’ll never understand why books like this one are putting unnecessary spaces between paragraphs. The mechanics of it drive me bonkers. Secondly, I did like the storyline, however repetitive it felt at times, and the characters weren’t half bad. I feel like it had potential to be great, but it was just missing some things. It built up this huge mystery, only for me to feel like it wasn’t solved. We never got closure on certain details and that’s just not the kind of story I like. Also, it built up the suspense only for it to be solved in 2 pages. I was expecting action, not just a simple solution for what the previous interactions alluded to. It wasn’t a bad book, but based off this one, I won’t be reading the next one. I just feel like it tried too hard to convince the reader that these characters were these strong independent people with a “boulder on their shoulder” (as repeated multiple times), yet one conversation had him turning over a new leaf. It just didn’t follow the same vibes throughout, and it added too many details to the irrelevant stuff and not enough details on the important plot events.

What an enjoyable read this was. It was a fast paced story with lots of twists and until you get to the end, you are kept guessing. Two very strong people with chips on their shoulders that push them to be loners. But their bodies want what their minds do not. As much as they hope to, neither of them can ignore that connection. As they reluctantly explore this explosive connection to each other, they must also find a sadistic killer, and unravel the mystery of Shephard's family. The question become, can they find the killer before it is too late?
If there was one thing I didn't like about the book, it was the name of the name female character. I am not sure why, but her name did not suit her in my opinion. But I had to let that go. It really did not affect my rating of this book...but still, I don't like the name the author gave her....LOL.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

An excellent heartwarming read that took two very broken souls putting them together, and somehow making a whole. Shepherd long ago had given up on himself as having a decent fiber in his body. After, all he had done as a mercenary over the years. Denise, also a veteran had seen and completed her share of action, but she had a terrible relationship with a powerful married man that left her broken and on the run. She learned to trust no one. They met one night while traveling never expecting to see each other again spending a hot and steamy time together. Little did they know, they were going to end up in the same small town working murder cases together from running into each other everywhere. They continued to bicker every time they saw each other. Great suspense, mystery, intrigue, plenty of romance, and careful your tablet might melt down.

I loved Shephard: A Rough Romance Book 1 of Mountain Men of Danger Falls. All I can say is wow. Shep is an ex-mercenary called home by his parents and told he needs to run their family inn with his two brothers. All three of them have a dark past. On his way home a stop at a roadside motel brings Denise, feisty former military and now a park ranger with her own dark past. Their chemistry is off the chart but neither are very trusting. Their one night turns to more when she’s investing a serial killer and the tracker is Shep. He’s determined to keep her this time they just need to survive and stop a serial killer and deal with her ex. This story had it all with suspense, drama and a romance. I loved the storyline and the characters. I can’t wait to read what’s next and I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a good story. Full of intrigue, danger, lots of banter and steamy scenes. Denise has learned the hard way that men can’t be trusted, and in Shephard’s careers he has learned no one can be trusted. Both have closed off their hearts and much of their feelings to get through life. But when they meet, the explosive chemistry starts to crumble both of their walls. I liked them both and was cheering for them.
I just couldn’t quite connect to the story or fully to them. Don’t know why. This is normally the type of story I love. I think it might have been how long it took them to really open up to each other. While it wasn’t a slow burn in regards to them sleeping together, it was in them opening up to each other. Took most of the book before they did that. Nothing wrong with that. Just didn’t seem to be what I wanted then. So please read it for yourself. You may love it!

I did receive an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.

The book grabs you hard with the way we start off, two strangers meet at a motel and spark instant hot chemistry that turns into 𝗋𝗈𝗎𝗀𝗁 passionate night of crackling time and then they walk off, with no names and anything identifying each other.

Denise is such a 𝖻𝖺𝖽𝖺𝗌𝗌 girl that and being a park ranger, she doesn't even hesitate going for her routine search in the woods and brave enough to wander straight into danger, to save lives.

Then there's also the fact that, there have been mysterious and 𝖻𝗋𝗎𝗍𝖺𝗅 deletions of men happening that have left the cops boggled as to who might be responsible for such inhumanity.

But I felt the book was stretched out a bit and I felt not as engrossed in the book as I wanted to be.
Even though, the initial part pulled me in, the book didn't sustain my attention for the long haul.

First off, I LOVE every book I've read by Piper Stone, but I REALLY loved this story. Shephard has a hidden past after he left the military, but we learn that he, as well as his brothers were all part of "off the books" covert military operations. All the brothers are called home by their father and learn that is they don't run the resort their parents own for a year then they will not receive any money when it is sold. Destiny intervenes and Shephard meets his "perfect" match in a salty, park ranger named Denise and the two become involved while they are thrust into solving the mysterious deaths of several men near the resort. Great book and I plan to read the other two books in this series which are the stories of Shephard's two brothers Jagger and Hunter.

I think Piper Stone has a knack for writing storylines that feature strong characters, intense chemistry, and a focus on domestic discipline. These are the qualities I've come to expect from her books. "Shephard" is the first installment in her "Mountain Men of Danger Falls" series, and it delivered everything I anticipated—and more!

The story begins with an intense, anonymous one-night stand between Shephard and Denise, but their paths cross again in the small town of Danger Falls. Both characters harbor significant secrets and carry a heavy chip on their shoulders. To say they are not people-oriented would be an understatement; however, when a mysterious situation arises, they begin working together.

This entire storyline was intriguing, engaging, and quite steamy. I’m looking forward to the next brother’s story!

This story had me so frustrated but intrigued as well! Shepherd was so hard on himself throughout the whole story and didn’t believe he was capable of love or being loved. Denise was a woman in a man’s world. She was also a former military veteran and could take of herself. She thought she had to prove to others just how tough she was and could do a man’s job. She was also running from her past (rich, arrogant ex!)

When Shepherd and Denise first meet, the sparks fly and they have one heck of a night! But after that night, everything else was nothing but one fight after another! But once they both start to let the walls crumble and their feelings come out, they are able to work together to find a killer and solve the case.

Swoon worthy fated moments to make you believe in HEA!
I was swept in from the start between hardened Shephard as he reluctantly returns home for a family meeting and by park ranger Denise with her dog, Pepper who survived her military stint and her abusive ex that had her leaving her police career behind. When these two meet in a dive bar to quench their hunger, it’s a no holds barred moment with electricity to light the whole city. The tender moment between Shephard and Pepper seals the deal for this once brutal man discovering his heart is alive to join the land of the living. When Shephard’s past comes to bite him, will the help of his brothers keep Denise safe? You have to read to find out and don’t expect to put the book down until you turn the last page!

When two strong characters collide their attraction is explosive. Here you meet Denise and Shephard. Denise is a park ranger who has moved to the area to escape her ex. Shephard and his brothers have been summoned by their father to run the family resort. Both have scars, some deeper than others and they find they can't stay away from each other. When it looks like a serial killer is on the loose both their pasts come back to haunt them and both of their lives are on the line. Full of everything you would expect from a book by Piper, this book has all the action, suspense and drama together with heat, steam and spice and will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Wow- a great surprise!

I tend to think of Piper Stone as a writer of pornos. Most of the stuff of hers that I’ve read has basically been porn. Fun reads- but still porn. And I now totally apologize for that attitude!!! With this book, she impressed me SOOO MUCH!!! There is a real story, a real mystery, in this book- and it’s REALLY REALLY GOOD!!!!
GO PIPER!!!! I seriously CANNOT WAIT to read the next 2 books in this series!!! There’s characters you can invest in, a mystery that keeps you hooked and isn’t hokey, and a good, adult romance tying them all together with some good sex thrown in. Not as kinky as past writing but everything else makes up for that. I’m SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED!!!!

This book has a little bit of everything (Secrets, Suspense, Violence, Twists and Turns) and is an intriguing story. Shephard and Denise have helpful background experience, which will help them uncover happenings in the town. The chemistry is extremely strong between these two. This is the start of a new series and will keep the reader wanting more.

Piper Stone is a one-click author for me and this first book in the Mountain Men in Danger Falls was a great start to this series. When Shep and his brothers get called home to take over the family lodge, it's not something they look forward to. They have a dubious relationship with their father, but they each take over the area they feel most suited. He soon meets Denise, a park ranger, who has several brutal murders to solve. They are instantly attracted, but they soon find themselves together even though they are not looking for a relationship. Well-written characters, great-paced story-line, sizzle, steam, action, drama, and more, this was a solid 5-star read.

Page-Turning Read!

WOW! Loved this series starter, a gruff no nonsense killer who didn’t know how to show any emotions or love and an independent park ranger who knew her stuff, both thrown into a dangerous situation as bodies start to drop and a murderer is on the loose.

He didn’t know how to show his feeling, he didn’t know how to love but the one thing he was certain of was that Denise was his to keep safe and claim if he was brave enough to embrace what they had and could have for a lifetime.

A hot steamy entertaining read you won’t want to put down!.

Started off really good with an interesting plot, likeable characters and a spicy romance.
Around 75% I was getting bored and checking to see how many pages were left.
At 83% I gave up. There was still so many pages to go and the story had for me gone stale. I didn't care anymore what was going on and the two main characters were just constantly miserable or angry unless they were fucking. Pepper was the most interesting one in the whole book.
I know when I pick up my phone to doom scroll rather than the book then it's all over. Thinking about it now I don't think I can actually remember the last 15 chapters. I read them, I just didn't absorb the information.

Action packed, murder mystery, insta lust, mountain man, ex marines, full of intrigue and rough, sexy heat.

Shephard joins his two brothers running their parent's resort, only to discover a hot fling he'd had is the park ranger and that mysterious murders are taking place at Danger Falls. Joining forces with hot fling, Denise, he sets out to rid Danger Falls of a serial killer only to bag himself a love interest on the way.

An interesting and enjoyable read, bursting with military vibes, tense action, hot mountain men and enough steam to evaporate a lake.

Loved the amazing narration of Skyler Morgan, who brings the emotions, angst, characters, steam and romance all to your ears. Loved

Denise is a former police detective, who now works as a park ranger with her service dog Pepper. While Shephard is in the at a bar of the motel he is staying at and he sees a woman across the bar. The woman is Denise. These two have one hot and steam night together.
With a murder in the mountains which is worse that Denise has seen in a long time. As the park ranger Denise calls in a tracker, and the man is no other than the man from the hot and steam night. Shephard. Who wants more.

Drama, action, romance and steam.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the way the story unfolded but the two main characters left me cold for 90% of the book. Clearly they were well suited as both of them were angry all the time. I understand that their past experiences were hard if not horrific, but did they have to be so miserable all the time? Fortunately they were redeemed in the last few chapters and the two other brothers were humanized as well. Pepper was the star of the book. I am looking forward to the next two books now that some of the anger has been dispensed.

Shephard an ex-Marine and mercenary on his way home at the demand of his father has a one-night stand with Denise a park ranger. Arriving home, his brothers also to find out their father is dying. The father wants them to run the resort for a year or he will sell, and they will get nothing. Denise gets unasked for assistance from Shephard as she attempts to solve a series of murders in the resort area. The steamy suspense with damaged main characters is hard to put down.
