Marianna Rojas is no ordinary vampire. She’s an Exemplar, one of thirty diplomats hand-chosen by the Grand Spell to bring the many races of the galaxy together in the World of Origin. Once a mystery, the Grand Spell has reshaped reality—and Earth is in peril.

With the strength and skills her Mask gives her, Marianna is now an emerald-eyed Elder Vampire, bursting with power and humming with dangerous thirst. The mighty Tsu-gi known as Shadow has named her “the Star That Dances in Blood Beneath the Light of the Broken Moon,” and that’s exactly how she deadly and invincible.

Accompanied by her dragon sidekick, Saia, and her ever-growing crew of fighters and adventurers, Marianna throws herself into the trials that will determine who survives in this new reality. With countries rearranging and entire continents dropping into the sea, it’s only a matter of time before Earth becomes unrecognizable.

I like where we are going plot point wise- BUT there were several things I didn’t like in this book which dropped the rating. It’s still a solid read, just a bit annoying.

Literally (I checked), the first 10% of this book is a rushed exposition to reintroduce not only all the characters but also the system and skills and how they all work. It was so annoying- especially after I took the time to re-read the previous books to prep for the new one. It felt pointless and the writing quality took a sharp dip. It felt like I was reading a new author, or like Ivan was rushing to get this book out and I hated it. You can literally go to the 10% mark on Kindle Unlimited, and miss nothing- and the writing quality goes back to normal then too.

This feels especially painful, because these books are so short. It took up valuable space that could’ve been spent on something I would actually enjoy.

I pray the author doesn’t do this again.

The other parts I didn’t like ARE understandable due to plot and character development, so I won’t harp on them too hard. I just wish Mariana wasn’t so wishy washy. It’s been going on since book 2, and I can only hope she’ll actually stick to being herself and quit trying to please other people and their sensibilities. She’s a fucking vampire, she is at the top of the food chain- don’t put yourself in a cage to please others. She seems in a good place now, I hope she stays there.

All in all, this book is decent, but a bit of a filler. There were no true challenges that felt significant- it was just her and her posse powering up. We meet a few people who will be future problems- but all of them were just initiating contact and setting up for the future.

I’m looking forward to the next novel where we get to see Mariana grow into herself and get a bunch of new enemies that are significant enough for me to get excited.

Another enjoyable story by Kal.

Will pick up the sequel.

Maybe I won't put off the sequel so long.
