I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Love, Loss, and Everything in Between is a collection of poetry and prose perfectly described by the title. The book is divided into sections of love loss and everything in between, and I found each section relatable, moving, and heartfelt. Told from real experiences of the author, including resilience, renewal, and identity, this book takes you on a journey of hope and self-healing. I'd say there's something for almost everyone within this collection.
This little floral-covered beauty surprised me! It’s 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒇𝒖𝒍, 𝐫𝐚𝐰, and 𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒍 of the kind of words that hit different when you’re sorting through your own soft spots. Nicole Loher’s poetry & prose is ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡-ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑦 and 𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑒𝑡𝑙𝑦 ℎ𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑓𝑢𝑙. It doesn’t try to be flashy. It just 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬. 💖🥹
Each piece is short but 𝒔𝒐 layered — touching on heartbreak, healing, and the messy middle parts of growth. You can tell this was written in 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍-𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 pain but with a future self in mind. It’s not just about falling apart — it’s about finding your way back. 🗺️📍
Also… the chapter on learning how to love yourself again?? I 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒅 that. 😩😭
If you’ve ever been through a tough goodbye, questioned your worth, or tried to bloom again after a long winter… this collection is for 𝒚𝒐𝒖. 💕
— I can’t take your pain away, but I can feel with you. And sometimes, that’s enough.—
This book of poetry was beautifully written. Emotional and heartbreaking. There’s a piece in there for everyone, likely several to be completely honest.
The raw emotions this book of poems pulled from me was beautiful. There were so many different poems that I could relate to from different points in my life that brought me to complete tears. Every woman should have this book on their shelves, I cannot wait to buy a physical copy to keep with me . The authors writing captivated my heart and soul .
This entire collection could have been 500 pages long and I wouldn't have gotten tired of it. The Love section felt like a warm cozy hug, perfectly describing many different kinda of love. The Loss section felt rational and relatable, allowing the reader to feel not alone in those emotions. Our Home was definitely one of my favorites from Loss. The Everything In Between section is refreshing since not many poetry collections place a focus on all the other emotions we experience as we get from one day to another.
The cover and title immediately drew me to this collection, but unfortunately it was just ok. It felt like in an attempt to make the poems relatable, most of them were simplified to the point of not being unique. I also was not a fan of the rhyme structure that was used in multiple poems. For example, in the poem “Around Again,” it says:
“Malaise and mundane It’s all the same My stupid brain I can’t catch a break”
The rhyming of mundane, same, and brain felt juvenile and lazy, and it didn’t even follow through by ending the last line with another rhyme (which I know is probably just a style choice, but I bothered me). I did really enjoy the poems “For My Girls” and “This Is Life,” though.
The poems are written beautifully. But a lot of them just don't really speak to me.. I think it's a good collection with all kinds of poems in there, so there is something for everyone. They are easy to understand and to read. So I do recommend the book.
Thank you to Netgalley & Rising Action Publishing for the advanced review copy.
Love, Loss, and Everything in Between needs to be on your poetry TBR. This collection is beautifully written & encapsulates difficult emotions in an accessible way. I would read 1000 more pages of this collection because I just think the author gets it. The writing is raw & real and not complicated, which is how I love my poetry collections.
Love, Loss, and Everything in Between is a beautiful mix of heartbreak and hope in an incredible collection of poetry. Early favorites are For My Girls, 12/4, Here Then Gone, In Retrospect, and Broken Infinity Sign, but they’re all so good. I already can’t wait to read this collection again!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own, 100%.
This is a beautiful collection of poetry that gives so much into all the feelings that come along with "love, loss and everything in between" as it's called. It's raw emotion put down in words that are so heartfelt and truly let you feel them. I haven't read a lot of poetry in the past, but I have been reaching for it lately while I'm going through some emotions of my own after losing my best friend/mom unexpectedly less than a year ago and also trying to navigate life for my father, who's dementia progressed rapidly after we lost her. This book helped me in a way that is hard to explain.
I found the poetry to be laced with both love and heartbreak, hope and fear, and I adored this aspect of the book. I found that the poetry spoke a thousand words even when it was short and Loher was able to craft a poetry book to resonate with the reader. There were times wherein the poetry felt a bit childish due to the rhyming but otherwise I loved the poetry book as a whole.
Loved this so much! Honest and beautiful. The “In between” chapter of the book was my favorite, a few of the poems & essays made me cry because of how much the words resonated.
- we're all just fractions of all the people we've ever loved, or still do.- I don't consider myself a poetry fan or reader but the poems in this book were beautifully worded. It was a profound display of emotion that resonated with me.
Soul-stirring Poetry & Prose Collections for The Hopeful and Brokenhearted
Nicole Loher builds momentum through her book by beginning with Love, moving through Loss, and closing with a reflective chapter titled Everything In Between. Nicole begins the first chapter with the tenderness of falling in love. The Love part captures patience, slow-burning love, fear of intimacy, and acceptance. She focuses on the kind of renewed love many of us seek. In contrast to the first chapter, Nicole explores grief, trauma, and her emotional struggles while coping with divorce. The final chapter, Everything In Between, weaves both Love and Loss themes to portray a journey of rebirth& healing.
Like many poets, Nicole highlights specific breakthrough moments – rooted in divorce, trauma, and tenderness of love. Her writing conveys the familiar pattern of healing a broken heart that involves radical acceptance, trust, and grace. One of my favorite poem, “A Different Perspective”, captures the tenderness of falling in love beautifully. However, I found myself wishing she had shared more about her journey in finding that love. In the Loss chapter, Nicole conveys intense emotions with poignant clarity, making it deeply relatable for readers who’ve experienced similar heartbreak. Personally, the Loss chapter resonated with me the most, as I, too, have gone through a painful breakup. Nicole’s word choices are simple yet powerful, expressing pain and discomfort with grace. However, I also noticed that some parts felt a bit underdeveloped and could have benefited from more emotional depth.
I believe the poetry and prose collections are not only beautiful in content but also complemented by the book’s stunning cover design.
If you’ve been struggling with a painful breakup and are searching for words that can soothe your soul, this poetry collection is for you.
