I am in love with this story already. You have an alternate reality, new power rangers with new suits, a futuristic setting it’s so bad ass! Can’t wait to read more!!

In this rebooted continuity of Boom! Studios' Power Rangers comics, Earth was invaded by the Beast Brigade, which defeated the Power Rangers until the Eltarian Army came. As the Eltarians colonizes Earth, sharing its technology with humans, they view all Rangers as a threat, causing Lauren Shiba to run from the law, despite her family being imprisoned. As Lauren finds herself in the company of four young adults, some of which refugees from other planets, they all face a conflict with an authoritarian empire, alien monsters, and the glorious return of Rita Repulsa.

Best for: Longtime fans who want a reboot that respects the mythos but isn’t scared to tear it apart. New readers craving sci-fi action with legacy baggage, sharp character design, and a villain who knows how to steal the panel.
Skip if: You want camp, quips, or zord battles every five pages. This one’s less Saturday morning, more insurgent space opera with helmets.

Power Rangers Prime isn’t just a new chapter—it’s a universe rewrite. And the tone shift is immediate:
Earth? Invaded.
The old guard? Shattered.
The Power? Reassigned.

Melissa Flores builds the world with urgency and clarity—like a baton pass mid-sprint. We don’t linger in nostalgia. We don’t get a slow rise. We get rebellion, loss, and a Red Ranger who’s already bleeding on page six.

This isn’t about becoming a hero.
It’s about surviving long enough to mean something.

The new Ranger crew?
✦ One legacy fugitive.
✦ One alien refugee.
✦ One sarcastic techhead with a chip on both shoulders.
✦ One strategist who already knows what wars cost.
✦ And one wildcard with a past tied to something Rita Repulsa doesn’t want revealed.

Yes, Rita’s back. No, she’s not playing dress-up villain anymore. This is a Rita sharpened by centuries and rewritten myth. Her presence crackles—less camp, more calculated. She’s the kind of antagonist who doesn’t just want to win. She wants to correct history.

And let’s talk about the art.
Michael YG’s work is electric—like he cracked open a prism and weaponized it. The suits shimmer. The action is cinematic. Every morph is a page-turn moment. And the backgrounds? They actually feel lived in—like this world didn’t start the moment we opened the book.

TL;DR:
Less morphin’ time, more moral choices. This is Power Rangers with bite—where the helmets don’t hide fear, and history keeps rewriting the mission.

Read if you like:
✦ Reboots with teeth
✦ Sci-fi rebellion with heart
✦ Power suits and power scars
✦ Watching Rita Repulsa walk back in like she never left

A bold, thrilling reboot with diverse heroes fighting an authoritarian regime. Vibrant art and strong themes make it a fresh, exciting start to the Power Rangers saga.

It really is just another Powers Rangers story but they put them in college which I think is a great choice. Admittedly, I’m not a big PR fan and this is my first real experience with it aside from a handful of episodes when I was younger. But the older cast allows for certain plot beats to hit harder, have more maturity and dialogue around it, and add just oodles of drama.
The character dynamics are strong and oozing for Fandom potential in the way they play off of each other so well and interconnected. They're a tense and unwanted collection of college students, a bumbling guy with the hots for Rita Repulsa seemingly, and a powerful space witch. They're constantly a bit against each other and its just enough friction to be entertaining and create interpersonal drama without them being unable to work together.
The sci-fi setting of it all is really nice with an intriguing setting of alien overlords, past mystical Earth Police (the Power Rangers), and a wickedly devious Rita. I never really got Rita’s shtick but by god do I understand it here. She’s a fucking icon.
