Knitting Socks by Emma Brown
Starts with a table of contents where there is so much introduction material you won't have any problem knitting socks.
Each component of the sock has it's own chapter also.
Intro talks ab out knitting and what section of the US and age groups use knitted socks the most.
Color photos along the way.
Tools and materials and lots of charts with helpful information.
Love the diagrams when you are ready to put the yarn on the needles=it shows you how to hold the needles. and how to wrap the yarn around your fingers. Videos are linked so you can view them online.
Love the various methods of putting the stitches on the needles.Photos are very helpful as they are in color and there is no distortion.
Love different parts of the sock and how each part has its own chapter so you can just concnetrate on that section.
Sock patterns are also included with sizing charts also.
Each pattern has a title, color photo, summary of the sock, difficulty level and size and required materials: yarn and needles. Gauge is also included.
Directions are given showing different color photor along with row by row instrcutions. Some patterns use a chart instead of row by row instructions but both are included.
Excellent resource book!

Knitting socks

I can hardly wait to get started, everything is explained from needle size to what types of yarn to use. It's been a long time since I have knitted anything. Book has lots of great patterns that are easy to follow. I look forward to knitting socks for my fiance, it's difficult to find him warm, soft socks that are not a girly color. He has neuropathy in his feet and hands so I want to be able to quickly knit him some nice comfy socks.

A really great sock resource!

This is one of the best sock books I have read in recent years. The information is presented well and is easy to understand for a beginner without being to simplified for someone with a little more experience.

The information covers basic infrastructure as well as how to correct errors that crop up. Even that go unnoticed till later.😊

The pictures are clear and in color. At times step by step. Nice.

The author included several patterns that while are classified as basic, still show the flexibility of how changing stitch pattern/design can make a sock different. The author even included some lace examples.

I read this book on Kindle Unlimited, but I would certainly buy it fly my reference library.

Useful book, poor visuals

This book is packed with useful techniques and friendly tips for knitting socks. It includes top-down and bottom-up instructions. It also demonstrates techniques that are often omitted or glossed over in other books, such as how to weave in yarn ends, and how to darn a worn out heel. Though many good photos for each step are included, the overall quality of the photos is erratic. Sometimes they are out of focus, or feature a hard-to-see variegated yarn, or a red or white or fuzzy yarn that loses definition when photographed. Since knitting is so visual, I recommend this book as a handy augment, not a stand alone source if you are learning to knit socks.

Perpetuates myths about knitting cast on.

I find it hard to take this book seriously. Claiming straight needles are used for straight knitting while circulars are for tubes like sweaters. Then perpetuating the complete myth that casting on with a larger needle will make the cast on looser is just unforgivable. It’s the spacing of the stitches on the needle that loosens the cast on, not the size of the stitch on the needle. Makes me question her actual knowledge to be writing a book.

Beginner guide for new knitter

This is geared to beginner level. It is a true e-book with links to instructional videos and online communities. I would still recommend starting with a scarf or washcloth to get your muscle memory established before starting your First Sock but if you are determined to do only socks this is your book.

In my continued quest to master sock knitting, this e-book was available for free w/ a kindle unlimited subscription. What I like about it: it is well laid out, has pictures, a section for lefties! AND links to YouTube videos for a more visual experience. Includes several patterns and tips for beginners who have never knitted before as well. Excellent choice for more info on sock knitting!

reviewed by a knitter.

I was curious about this book as I love to knit socks. This is not a beginner book in my opinion.
I personally don’t think a beginner could use it and learn from it.

Knitting Socks (Sock Knitting Patterns Book 1) by Emma Brown

I borrowed this book through Kindle Unlimited, but it is so easy to follow that I will be purchasing it! The only thing I would have liked to see is the actual written out web address for the links.

Knitting Socks

Very informative. I copied all the abbreviations in a special notebook. I can go to it when I am not sure what the abbreviation means.

I can finally knit socks! I'm so happy to have found this book. I'm always looking for a new project to get involved in and something that I can use to create personalized gifts for friends and family members. Knitting has always seemed a bit like magic to me -- lots of fast hand movements and BAM! Someone ends up with a great looking product. This book, however, takes the mystery out of it. There are clear and concise instructions and, most importantly, awesome pictures to illustrate exactly what you're supposed to do. It's a perfect blend of text and photos, with easy-to-follow patterns, too. Now that I've read this book, I'm excited to use it as my step-by-step tutorial! I have a feeling there will be a lot of knit socks in the Christmas stockings this year!

Not Quit

I was reading over the book. The directions for the tube socks state you knit them on 2 needles then seam them. Then the pattern calls for 2 different sizes of don't?
