Now in the middle of her University years at Fudan, Shanghai, Gwen will carve out a bloody niche for herself and her friends, wrought from the sheer presence of her beauty and her terror, aided by her zippy Ariel and an all-consuming Caliban.
Continue Gwen's adventures as she reconnects with her father's Clan and makes peace with a past she is only beginning to discover. Join her endeavours as she ventures into the hive cities of Shanghai's Districts, haunted by a scarlet-eyed avenger seeking redress against Gwen's path of destruction.
I can't express enough, my appreciation for the author's writing style and language. Not only is the story engaging and entertaining, but it is refreshing in its broader use of language and vernacular.
The characters are well developed, and the plot moves along with both exciting moments of "what-if" and fear for the characters. Will they succeed? Unlike a lot of stories where you can watch their trials but be assured that everything will, of course, work out fine as expected -- there is an element of the unknown in Wuto's storytelling. Actual suspense, expertly done. I can assume that the main character, Gwen, will succeed and survive (she is the main character after all), but what trials will she fail at and have to overcome?
I can't put this series down, and when I am done, I know that this will be a series that I could read again for the first time.
What isekai is complete without a magical university? The driven reincarnate doing everything over the Right Way (less parties, more cramming all knowledge that she can into the few years available to her).
Add in a few duels, some old enemies, some new rivals, and a bunch of intrigue, and it’s an engaging, detailed read.
