Anna Glick finds Bishop Elijah Hartzler’s sermons engaging and honest, but his pain is at times evident. His wife, Justine, is pregnant with their third child, although the first two did not survive their births. As she prepares to go into labor, everyone prays for her, including Anna, who wishes nothing but happiness and peace for the long-suffering bishop.
When tragedy strikes, the community rallies, but, in his anguish, Elijah pushes everyone away. Stumbling upon him hiding in a cornfield, Anna consoles the grieving man, and her words ease his sorrow. A friendship forms between the two, and, through the tears, a connection develops…growing into something far deeper.
But everyone thinks Anna will marry Abram Zug, who she has been courting. To compound matters, the Albrechts have taken it upon themselves to be ever-present at Bishop Hartzler’s house, pushing their daughter, Catherine, in his direction. Through the trials of grief and loss, Elijah is determined to follow his heart, even if it means breaking all the rules in the process.
Holly Newcastle first saw the Amish on a summer trip through Minnesota as a teenager, espying them from a neighboring farm. These quiet, gentle people have fascinated the author ever since. A lover of romance and history, she's achieved her dream of writing about a fictional Amish family in the "Faith in Peril Trilogy".
A New York native, Holly lives in Colorado Springs with her husband and two children. She enjoys gardening, hiking, and traveling, but only when she's able to tear herself away from the computer, which does not happen often enough.
Anna is drawn to the sermon Elijah gives. They show a humbleness, this is not something they chose, but are chosen by God and position for life. The sorrow, of yet another child dead at birth, this time it took his wife. Unable to contain his grief, he shoves others away. Anna finds where he has been going to be by himself. She is there to comfort him, and in time to encourage him out of his deep sadness. A love grows between them, and It isn’t for the one she has been in courting with.
Another awesome book in the series. I look forward to reading the last one about Ruth. I loved the message of forgiveness and the importance of loving and supporting one another. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves good, clean, Christian romance stories.
I gave this book a 5-star rating because the characters seemed so real. I could feel the bishop's tears and also his hope for the future. I would recommend this to anyone who likes good Christian fiction as I do. On to book three.
This was another good Amish love story by this author, Holly Newcastle. It was book two - and continued the story of the daughters of a happy Amish family. Good characterizations and full personalities make these books great cozy reads!
