Donna I've been burned too many times to believe in fairy tales. So when this golden-eyed alien, Tovan, shows up claiming I'm his destined mate, I'm not buying it. Sure, he's gorgeous and infuriatingly persistent, but I've got a farm to run and a life to live. I don't need some whirlwind romance complicating things. So, why does my heart race every time he's near?
Tovan From the moment I saw her, I knew. Donna Johnson is my kahl, my destined mate. She's everything I've ever strong, passionate, and beautifully stubborn. But she denies our connection, pushes me away at every turn. I must prove to her that our love is real, that we belong together. For without her, my life, my existence, will never be complete.
★★★★★ An Alien for the Future is a standalone, sci-fi romance intended for mature readers. The novel + a mature heroine + a romance of second chances + fated mates
When he sees her, he knows he has to help, and when he does, they find something they thought would never be possible that is a connection with each other in the face of uncertainty and danger.
An Alien for the Future is an enjoyable read and a series that should not be missed. This romance tale has a little tension, drama, angst, danger, suspense, and a bit of wit. It made my heart ache, and had me laughing at times.
An Alien for the Future is the third sci-fi book in the A New Home series by AG Wilde. Kidnapped by aliens, now she has a chance to make a new home for herself on a new planet.
I have loved each book in this series, and this is no exception. I relate to the older heroines so much. Donna's remembering all the men who had let her down, all the times she had been burned by bad choices in love, made me cry because I related so much. Likewise the choosing of a "practical" career that would support me rather than a more risky life in the arts. Hiding away someplace quiet and peaceful because it's "safer" -- it's just all so ME. Watching Donna get her HEA with Tovan was really cathartic.
Donna and Tovan so so good! I love everything about Hudo III and this world. This story was perfect so lovely and complex I love the plot and the mix of adventure and how they over come each obstacle. Chefs kiss!
A.G. Wilde is a fantastic author. I've read many books by this author and loved them. This series...I'm not loving.
Good things-I love that the FMC are very mature in age. The number of romances in ANY genre that include FMC's over 40 is super tiny. I look for them and rarely find one.
When I do, they are typically quite ageist, with an FMC who either runs herself down or is obsessed with any signs of age; an MMC who is smokin hot and always described as such regardless of his age, with language used conversely to often describe the FMC in dowdy or grandma terms; an FMC who has to "compete" with a younger, more vibrant, or body beautiful woman; or an FMC over 40+ who gets a surprise pregnancy when only 5% of women over 40 can get pregnant without major medical intervention. And the list goes on. So it's wonderful to find any romance where the FMC is as mature as these. I did note that in several comments for this series reviews, a few readers said they DNF because the FMC was "old." Way to support each other, ladies. I did find the first book rarely mentioned the FMC's age, but the following two books ramped that up a ton, with many mentions of age, insecurity about age, and much self criticism. Also, why aren't the MMC's ages never, ever mentioned?
--I also like the space setting. However, please note that Ruby Dixon has had a very, very similar series out for about 10 years. Also, sorry, but it is much better. I believe Honey Lhillips also has a similar existing series. Hmmm.
--I love that the FMCs are seen in a $exual light. Shocking as it may seem to many, women over 40, 50, 60, 70, and even higher do still engage in $exual relationships. (Also, the average age of romance readers is 42.) I walked in on my grandparents once when they were in their late 70s, and looking back on that, despite the embarrassment, I'm overjoyed now at my current age to think they still enjoyed each other just a few years before the end of their lives. This is how it should be, if we wish it.
There are some things I don't care for or understand. While the instalove thing is OK, I don't care for or understand the violent "rut" ritual. Why? And why does it happen after the couple have already had $ex, and why at the 3/4 point in every story? It seems the central point of each book, and it drags, drags, drags until that point arrives. Then it's the same thing as in the previous books.
I also feel that the FMC is basically the same woman, just with different names/skin colors. She is aggressively independent to the point of annoyance. For some reason, she seems fixated on her romantic relationships on Earth, long before the time that each of these women were trafficking victims for close to or exceeding a decade. Yet none ever speak about their trafficking experiences, not even a tiny bit. That this is their most recent and damaging experience, yet is never mentioned, makes no sense.
The MMCs are also essentially the same man template, too. There are virtually no differences between any of them.
And finally, in this book, we now find that to be accepted into this farming program, human women must now register and provide blood samples to determine if they have a mate amongst the Kari men. This, we are told, is to improve the "success" rate of the program and to ensure the Kari men don't get out of hand and behave badly in order to get a coveted mate. Wow. That sounds a lot like the kind of fu#kery that goes on here on Earth. I guess it's doesn't occur to the program designers that some human women have no interest in having a mate. Or that the whole purpose of the program was to provide a life for women who had suffered greatly from trafficking and to be free from men. Or maybe there should be a program to ensure the Kari men behaved with peace and decorum towards these ladies at all times. Instead, it appears there's a new program that forces human female participants to register their identification as a mate. Sounds about right these days. I found this to be disturbing, and doesn't entice me to read future books in this series.
These books take place in the same universe as Riv's sanctuary and the Rebellion which were some of my favorite books. I love revisiting this world because of the wonderful stories and well written characters. Donna was one not the woman who were in stasis when the rebellion \ restitution found them. She wants a fresh start for herself but like the other two human women who have moved To Hudo III she finds that she's compatible with an alien race who need mates to survive. Donna has never had a good relationship men don't stay and she's been taking care of herself for her whole adult life. She wants nothing to do with a mate. Torvan A Kari male out on a job to survey some land for ore deposits. What he finds is Donna and when he sees her he know that she is his one the female he has waited his whole life for. But he knows humans don't have the same biological instincts when they find their true match. He will do anything to prove to Donna that he is the right male for her. Trust is something that is earned and it takes time for Torvan to prove that he truly cares for Donna. Donna is afraid to let him in. But there is unrest brewing as well as some danger because there are other males that want the chance be to court Donna and Torvan will have none of that . can these two find their way to each other? Can they build a foundation on trust and eventually love? You have to read and find out! Honestly I love the Arc of the series it give woman of a certain age hope that they can find love at any age! Highly recommend💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🔥💖🌟🌟🔥
I loved the story because it had an older, African-American female lead. It followed the basic formula of this series but with a fresh storyline. I especially liked that although the older heroines slowly regress in age because of their mates' "special sauce," they didn't automatically turn into young adults in looks or baby making capabilities. Adoption was chosen - a positive message. However, the ending would have been even better if they'd chosen an older child, not a baby. Older kids are almost always left behind in adoption options in favor of babies. So, the positive message was dimmed a little. I also like the link to her previous trilogy series and was pleased to catch up with them in this book. I've read at least two previous series from this author before & I just realized that each one had a story with a black female lead. This author has become a favorite & I often look for new releases from her. I especially liked the series that started with Cataclysm. Check her books out. 4 stars for the book and anextra star for the author, A.G Wilde.
This is the third book in the series, and I hope not the last. The basic plots: Human women who have been rescued from a sadistic and evil alien species are offered a new life with a farm on Hudo. Many other displaced aliens also find opportunities for a new life including the Kari, A warrior race who lost their families and their planet in a war.
The warriors hope to find their kahla, or fated mate. The women have been traumatised from their captivity so aren't interested in males, or so they think.
Each couple goes through struggles to accept the mate bond, stress and danger from rehabbing the farms, and accepting happiness. I loved the pacing for each story, the romance, humor, and the spice.
I will be rereading this series again and again so really hope it expands. You will fall into an "Aw..." State for each book so enjoy!
Donna and Tovan’s story was riveting! For a moment I thought it might not have a. HEA, but of course it did. A G Wilde knows how to give us the suspense as well as the happiness. Tovan knew Donna was his mate, and Donna absolutely knew she wasn’t, until it didn’t seem so absolute any longer. Slowly she realized she cared for him, but his heart didn’t beat for his mate properly yet. He was confused but KNEW she was the one for him, it just took time for his heartbeat to catch up with that knowledge. Wilde knows how to get and keep the readers attention. She keeps us focused on the prize, and that’s why I love her stories so much. I’m never disappointed and love finally getting to that HEA! 💕
ENCHANTING... I love every book that A.G. Wilde has created in this alien world series!
I waited to review these books in the series until I finished them all, because once I started reading them, I couldn't stop! I was entranced, and I can't wait for the next one to be written and released! I have been going thru some difficult life experiences recently, times, and it made all the difference in the world to be able to lose myself in every one of these wonderful books! The books end in triumph over the worse that life could bring the characters, then reward them by bringing love and a happy ending to them all. I offer a great big THANK YOU to A.G. Wilde for the wonderful excursion into the worlds that she has created for her characters and shared with us!
I loved this story. I don’t usually write reviews. I have read all three in this series, but something about this story tugged at my heartstrings. I really appreciate that A.G. Wilde wrote a nuanced woman of color that was firm about what she wanted instead of combative. Donna was self sufficient, resourceful and independent. She experienced many romantic disappointments but she wasn’t written as over-the-top angry and bitter. Tovan was such a sweetheart. He was written as a big muscular guy but he didn’t allow his masculinity keep him from showing vulnerability on more than one occasion. I definitely recommend.
It’s an interesting development of the Kari and their search for human mates. I enjoyed reading this and will happily read it again.
My only quibble is the Donna described in Book 2 doesn’t match Donna in Book 3? Book 2 Donna is funny, bold, eager to connect, and is described as having “set up a shop in town”? Book 3 Donna is cautious, worried about money, and doesn’t call her friends when she needs to. I preferred Book 2 Donna but I just pretended this story was about a different person with the same name!
All the stories in this series of books, I must say that this one was fantastic. This was the only story that I did not have to skip through the excessive wordiness and unnecessary ramblings. Donna‘s character was believable at the beginning of the story. She sounded like the independent overprotective auntie. Unfortunately, her character changes at the midpoint of this book. Their romance story differed from the first two meeting and fall in love. I appreciate that. Meeting their adopted child at the end was icing on the cake. great story!
Another happily ever after story from A. G. Wilde! I am sad because I basically inhaled this book and now it seems as if the magic is over and the time went by much too quickly. Now I'll be in waiting mode again. Sigh. It was great while it lasted. Perfect, actually.
A.G. Wilde writes another tale that will whisk you away to another world. I loved seeing the relationship between Donna and Tovan develop. Also really enjoyed seeing her tie this book in with some of her others. 4 stars 3 spice Tropes: found family, slow burn, fated mates
Wow what a wonderful story! Donna wants nothing to do with a male. Tovan is at once captivated by Donna. Their relationship is not an easy one. But one that is not to be missed. Enjoy enjoy!
These stories were great! We just need to find true love for some of the other Kari males we met. Please don't let this end with Donna and Tovan's story, there's so many more great stories to be told about the settlers on Hudo. Please keep them coming.
OMG! This book is stupendous! The love story is tender, sweet, romantic, but the overall emotions the book invokes - delicious! The ending will choke you up… Can’t wait for a new book in the series!
I really enjoy this series. These older women who are just trying to find out who theu are after they have had their old life stole. A whole race of hopeful Kari.
