The Reed Brothers #5

Proving Paul's Promise

Rate this book
He has watched her from afar…

Paul Reed has been raising children since he was a child himself, but he wouldn’t change his life, even if given an opportunity. That is, until one of his brothers says four little words that shake the foundation of his world. “She’s not a lesbian,” shouldn’t be quite so earth shattering, but suddenly the woman he loves is available, and he’ll do whatever it takes to win her over.

They call her Friday, and she’s hiding more than just her name...

Friday has worked in the Reeds’ tattoo parlor for four years. She’s become more than just an employee, and she loves being in the middle of something so wonderful. She treasures the way the Reeds live for one another, and she adores the way they take care of their family. She would do just about anything to be part of it, if not for the fact that she doesn’t deserve a family of her own. Or does she? Friday is punishing herself for her past, and by doing so, she pushes away the one man who could truly love her.

Separately, they’re strong. Together, they’re vulnerable. As a team, they rock.

Tammy Falkner lives on a farm in a lovely, sprawling little town in rural NC with her beekeeper husband and a house full of boys, a few dogs, and a cat or two (or five – who has time to count?). As half of the Lydia Dare team, she has co-written ten books, including the Westfield Wolves series and the Gentlemen Vampyre series. A huge fan of Regency England, she often wonders what other kinds of magical, mythical and strange creatures might live and interact within the ton. Exploring the theory that the fae can walk between Regency England and their own land, Tammy spends as much time as possible with the lords and ladies of society, horse-drawn carriages, and elegant balls. Now add to that some faeries, a little murder, a bit of mayhem, and a troublesome garden gnome, and you have her exciting new series. She hopes you enjoys her world as much as she does.

Title: Proving Paul’s Promise
Series: Reed Brothers #5
Author: Tammy Falkner
Release Date: July 2014
Rating: 4.5 stars
Cliffhanger:. No
HEA:

From the moment I read first book in Tammy Falkner Reed Brother’s series I fell in love with every tattooed hottie from Reed’s Tattoo Shop. All of them stole a big piece of my heart and every time new installment of theirs journey is released I’m more than eager to get my next fix of this beautiful men. They are perfect in so many different ways. Once I think that I finally made decision which one of them I like the best, something happens to make me change it… again. This boys are all fighting for the first place and none of them is giving up. Paul, Logan, Matt, Sam and Pete are seriously the best!

Paul was always interesting character; after seconds of meeting him and his daughter in the first part of the series I wanted to know more about this man. He seemed very alpha and an amazing caretaker, which of course made my heart thump. His tatted wide body and beautiful eyes made him sex on stick. Learning his in love with Friday, his employee, who supposedly is a lesbian, only skyrocketed my obsession. One day he finds out Friday’s not a lesbian at all, and that’s when the chase for what his heart craves began.

“It was so much easier lusting after Friday when I thought she liked to eat pussy as much as I do. I could put my arm around her and pretend like the scent of her didn’t shoot straight to my dick, since I couldn’t do anything about the attraction anyway.”

Friday always was attracted to this “tatted-up, sexy blond hunk of man meat” but there were so many obstacles that made her stop from reaching out to him. So she never did. Till he kissed her one night and then went to spend the night with other woman. That hurt her badly.

Proving Paul’s Promise was as good, cute and sexy as the previous stories written by Tammy Falkner. I laughed a lot at the boys’ crazy shenanigans and dirty jokes, I smiled so hard my mouth hurt through the other parts, I also fanned myself when the steam level went up and I went picking up the pieces of my shattered heart alongside Friday. I’ve read this novel quickly – it was that good. I wasn’t able to stop and eat or go to sleep till I’ve finished. The time seemed to flew by. Immediately after reaching the ending I started craving Sam’s story, which in my opinion, has a potential to yet be the best of all.

Proving Paul’s Promise is the 5th book in The Reed Brother’s series and I was curious to get to Paul’s book as he’s the oldest Reed and a father figure to the other brothers. Plus, he’s a dad. I liked him and Friday together and I especially liked her storyline. What I didn’t love was .Overall I enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to Sam’s story.

Paul is the oldest Reed brother, he helped take care of his sick mother and brother, finished raising his brothers, and started a successful business. I have always been intrigued by Paul, because he was the backbone of his family and always seemed like a great father, so I was really excited to get to his book.

Friday has been working at Reed’s for years and is an honorary member of the Reed family. While most them see her as a sister, Paul has always seen Friday as the sexy, tattooed, pierced bombshell who dresses in sexy vintage clothes. For the longest time Paul had assumed Friday was a lesbian, and once he finds out she is not he can’t stop thinking about her.

Friday can’t even begin to count the many times she has lusted after Paul, but he is off limits. For one, she believes he is still dating his baby’s mother, Kelly. Friday grew up in foster care, and she refuses to be a catalyst in separating Paul and Kelly since they have Hayley together.

PPP begins with Friday volunteering to be a surrogate for her two friends and Paul deciding he has had enough and is finally going to make a move. Friday has graduated from NYU and is about to be homeless, so he offers to rent a room to her.

This story is sugary sweet, but I did enjoy it. First, I loved seeing Paul’s desire to protect and love Friday. She has never known unconditional love and doesn’t believe she deserves it, but Paul proves that she does.

While this story was predictable and had little angst, I enjoy that from this series. I have grown to love The Reed Brothers and even if it is a cheesy at certain points I still enjoy picking up with them. Like the other books we get to see all the brother’s and their partners. I love catching up with them. I love how this series is set: a family that sticks together, looks out for one another, and takes in other’s that need help.

The first book will always be my favorite, but still recommend catching up with The Reed’s.

5 Stars!! I’m in love with this series! Love, love, love…happy, happy, joy, joy!! My goodness, could it get any better?!?! Didn't think so, but it just did, because Paul is PERFECT!!

 photo 18bbe80f-66e4-481f-a7a2-aab095562023_zps78e9a5c3.jpg

She smiles mischievously. “You’re not scared, are you?”
I scoff. “Of you? Never.”
I’m only scared of her every fucking day. She makes my gut wrench and my heart skip and my head churn. And she does it without even touching me. One day, she’s going to want to touch me and I’ll get to touch her back. But I kind of need for her to take the first step. I’m terrified of loving her because I know loving her won’t be easy. But I also know I don’t want to miss the chance.

Paul and Fridays relationship has been in the background since book 1. Will they finally be able to push aside their misunderstandings and make it together as a couple?

I love these brothers, I love how they are a tight family. Keeping with the rest of the series, this book was low angst/low drama. The rating fell a bit short because I found Paul a bit slow in the brains department and the heroine's relunctance to share her past is always a bit frustrating for me.

Fans of the series will enjoy this, seeing everyones HEA (even cheesy Matt), the fun banter, its one of those light fun books with a bit of steam.

4 Loving You Forever Stars * * * *

These Reed men love freely; they love strong and they love forever. This is not just with their women... this is with their family and the ones who become part of the ever increasing family.

Falkner has created this tight knit group of people who have had demons of all different types... with the common denominator being... if they are loved fully without judgement and allowed to free themselves of all the emotional ropes which bind them... then things will settle out in the most positive way.

This part of the Reed saga was the love story of Paul, the surrogate parent of all the Reeds and Friday, a broken girl who healed herself by rebuilding all the walls necessary to rise up from her ashes...

He loves her clearly, truly and fully. She is use to not trusting love...and this Reed family is all she has ever wanted... to be able to actually follow her heart is frightening... for she has secrets and scars which run deep.

I appreciated this story... the deft handling of so may deeply felt concerns rang true to me and I loved how everything came together.

These stories are definitely of the sexy, sweet level... the men are so in love and nuts for their women... it can make you almost have sugar overload... But I said almost... because this is the fantasy of family, love and caring I will buy into every single time.

Sam is the one Reed Brother left to find is forever girl... it has been hinted Peck is the one... and I cannot wait to see how all of this plays out.

3.5--Promising--Stars!!!

Pretty sure I got a couple of cavities reading this one.....

But honestly, that's what I like about this series. It's low angst and drama and the Reed brothers are such great book boyfriends.

Paul and Friday's story was highly anticipated by most as the tension between these two has been lingering throughout the whole series.

For the longest time Paul thought Friday was a lesbian....and all that changes when Friday gives Paul the kiss of a lifetime. All it took was that one kiss for Paul to fall in love.

He stops the exes with benefits routine with Kelly and goes all in with Friday.

Friday though has kept her past hidden. She went through a lot and really came out on the other side stronger. But she lets her past rule her future. I found the back and forth between Paul and Friday the first half of the book a bit exhausting.

But once Friday fully commits to let Paul in and give things a chance I enjoyed their story.

If you're a fan of the series, then this is a must read. As always it's great to catch up with the rest of the Reed clan. I'm looking forward to Sam's book!!!

FINALLY this is Paul and Friday's story.

Paul is the oldest Reed brother who has been taking care of all the people around him and he wants to do the same for Friday but Friday has a secret from her past and she thinks she does not deserve her HEA.

Their story is sweet, sexy sizzling at times, funny and emotional.

As always we catch up with the rest of the Reed bros their women and kids which in my opinion completes each story.

Only Sam's story left now I will be sad when this series comes to an end.

5 stars, obviously. Do I really need to say how much I loved this book ? I feel like I'm repeating myself every time Tammy Falkner writes a new story. To sum it up : it's about a Reed brother - of course it was awesome.
Can't wait for Pete, I have a feeling he's going to equal Logan in my heart!

So, I liked Friday which was a shock for me, because I thought she was going to be a problem in this book, but she was well written, now Paul (sigh), Paul could do no wrong in my eyes, the perfect brother and father, and well, he was just a huge disappointment for me.

SPOILERS GUYS SPOILERS!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! :D

I could get past the fact that he had a sexual relationship with his ex for yyyyyeeeeeears, while he claimed to be so much in love with Friday, because he was so perfect and all, but I could not get past the fact that they continued sleeping together even after Kelly gets engaged and cheats on her fiancé so many times, he would have stopped, right? Paul from the other books is not a cheater :/

This felt soooooo out of character for him and the Kelly thing reeeeally bothered me, and I cannot believe he never covered up the tattoo of Kelly’s name in his stomach, I mean seriously? He brushed it off when Friday mentions it and that’s it, she just accepts it and we never hear about it again.

Come on, you guys, all members of the sisterhood, could you accept this? Am I the only one that sees the absurdity on this? I feel like everyone’s fine, this is fine and I’m overreacting…but still, I would not be fine with this, no matter how many times he told me I was the love of his life, his one and only, etc etc, just no, sorry.

END OF SPOILERS, IT'S SAFE NOW! ;)

However, 2 stars for all the bantering, babys and jokes and Logan, my favorite <3
Let’s wait for Sam and his cupcakes ^^
P.S.: I apologize for any grammar mistakes, xoxo from Brazil!

I love this series but this one just didn't hit the mark for me. It had potential but just didn't reach the point I needed it to.

Paul's relationship with his ex really bothered me. Even though they didn't sleep together in this book, he did sleep with her for years while she had a boyfriend. I thought he was better than that. He also had a tattoo of her name in his stomach. He brushed it off when the love of his life said something about it and then it was never brought up again. I'm sorry, I could never bang and love a guy who had his ex's name that close to his dick.

OH please, OH please let this be Paul and Friday's story!!!!

UPDATE 7-17-14:

Ok, let me start off by saying how much I adore this series. Since the first book, I was addicted to all the Reed brothers. I was really looking forward to reading Paul and Friday's story and there were parts of their story that I loved but there were also parts I did not, so I'm going to sum it up with my likes and dislikes...*CAUTION..THERE WILL BE SMALL SPOILERS BELOW*

LIKES:
Paul's "wanted" ads
Paul, Friday and the gang at the charity event when they were painting faces
The park scene with Paul, Friday, Hayley and Jacob
Paul's tattoo for Friday and the "saved" location of that tattoo - I thought that was so sweet..he saved that spot for "the one".
the dance recital - Reed brothers dancing
Ok, just all the scenes where the Reed brothers were together...their banter back and forth was hysterical!!
Friday's surrogacy for her friends
The birth of Kit
The entire epilogue was awesome, I loved all of it
Sam and Peck (can't wait for his book, Peck seems like a very interesting character)

DISLIKES:
Paul's tattoo of Kelly - it was addressed and I didn't care for Paul's response when asked about it..when questioned, his response was "So"? That irked me a little. I'm hoping in a future book that he has it changed.
Kelly in general - especially at the recital and afterwards when all hell broke loose
Friday's Potty mouth - this is just a personal preference I don't like my heroine's cussing too much
Paul and Friday's lack of communication with one another
Not knowing Friday's real name - I REALLY wanted to know what her real name is!

So there you have it. There were parts I loved and some I didn't, but overall it was an enjoyable read and I'm still madly in love with this series and will certainly continue it!

I still can't get over the fact that the hero never covered up the tattoo of his ex's name. I don't care that he has a kid with her, that's permanent enough, don't need a tattoo as well. And it's not like he loves her or anything. I kept waiting for the heroine to talk about it, but she just accepted it. What kind of woman would be okay with that? Definitely not me.

That little detail bugged the hell out of me and no amount of love declarations could overshadow it.

So for the longest time this series sat on my kindle, a few ARCs a few freebie pickups and then I decided to start going through those books in an attempt to make a dent in the massive TBR pile that I acquired because my one-click finger has a mind of its own. So after reading Logan, Pete and Matt’s story, I had to have Paul’s. The fact that it was going to be with Friday! Icing on the cake.

Paul Reed stepped up when it was needed. With a dead mom, a deadbeat dad and four younger brothers, Paul knew what he had to do to keep his family together. But it wasn’t just a life built around his brothers and his tattoo shop... he also had a little girl to take care of. He had a lot of burden to carry, but he had his family and to a man like Paul Reed, that was everything.

For Friday, the Reeds are the closest thing to a family she’s known for some time. But when one kiss with Paul shifts her world, she has to make a choice, trust him enough to let him in or hide away forever. When a choice she makes causes old memories from her past to resurface Paul has to fight even harder to get her to open up and let him in.

I have to admit there is something that makes my lady parts get a little excited over a man with a kid. Seeing Paul interact with his family and his little girl over the last few books, I knew that when he was finally ready to claim his woman, he’d be that mix of alpha and sweet that just makes you swoon. He has proven himself over the last few books as the caretaker and it was nice to see him get a chance to have his own HEA now that each of his brothers (but Sam) have grown into men.

I think what makes this series so fantastic, beyond the inked boys, is that it is centered on family. Although these boys are bad in their own ways, it all comes down to meeting the one – then everything just stops. They realize what they have, what they want and just go for it. I loved that these guys weren’t damaged. Their pasts shaped their present, but not in self-destructive ways.

There are a ton of novellas that have been released with this series and although I haven’t started those (oh, but I will), I am excited for Sam’s story. If his book is anything like the rest, I think he might just win over my heart like each of the Reed boys have.

As an added bonus, with this installment you get some great moments with the brothers and their extended family, moments that make you smile.

4.5 STARS

No matter how goofy, cute, corny, adorable, cheesy and lets face it, totally freakin' hot these boys are, it'll never be enough. I'm always reduced to a puddle of mushy-gushy stuff after finishing a book from this series. Sometimes you need sunshine after the rain and a rainbow or two.
I can't believe only Sam's left :((

Thanks for the BR, Ami and Jeanne! xx

Me encantó.

Another good Reed brothers book. This story is full of heartbreak and healing.
Paul and Friday are amazing characters! Paul is the oldest, biggest and most protecting brother. Family means everything to him. Friday is such a strong and wonderful female.

Reed brothers! These are simple, everyday, hardworking, family oriented and loving guys who are the epitome of loyalty and protectiveness.

“That’s the beauty of the Reeds. They look beyond the surface.”

I think my all-time favorite part was when they were raising money for the homeless shelter and all of the Reed boys helped do face painting. And then Friday convinced all of the boys to take off their clothes, raising a lot more money for people in need.

Can't wait to read about Sam.

This one was different because well obviously we are 5 books in now, and this couple has been brewing for-forever! No really!!! So it was nice to see them kind of fall into each other relatively easily but still have the struggles and the trials that are always present in these books.

 photo 29cfe09f-f257-4e08-9ae0-01244482f49a.jpg

This one was no less lacking in the feels than the others. Friday was an entire mixed bag of past trauma and drama and Paul had to keep digging and peeling back the layers to get the details on things. What I loved most was that he knew her so well, there were some things that she didn't even have to say and he could just let her know he was waiting for her to talk to him about it. I seriously almost teared up a few times in this one when it came to one particular part of Fridays past.

I only gave it 4 stars because I felt like there was a little too much crammed into this one at times. Trying to get all of the characters and kids and extended folks involved may have been a little bit too much.

 photo 23133e6c-da21-446c-928a-fb708a40cb10.jpg

I always love reading these books though because no matter how heartbreaking or difficult the stories these individuals are facing turn out to be, you are always left feeling really good and happy and just all is right with the world. Even if it's only for a moment it's nice to have an author that you can count on to leave you feeling really good once you're done. Also, she writes some seriously smoking hot sex scenes. Goodness! As always, I'm already ready for the next book! :D

(This review will be vague, so it will not contain spoilers)

Finally, finally, FINALLY! We finally get to Paul and Friday. These two have had so much tension building between them over the series, I actually thought I might combust if she put them last. In Proving Paul's Promise, we meet new people and revisit old ones. It feels like checking in on your family. So much happens in this book! A lot of unanswered questions are answered. Paul, as always, is an amazing man. He is the oldest, biggest and most protecting brother. Friday, is his equal. She has had to be strong, when most would break. We truly find out just how amazing she really is. True to Tammy Falkner style, she also adds in scenarios, that in reality, people get bullied for. She brings to light the nonsense in treating people hatefully, just because they are different, or think differently than others.

I literally cried three times in this book. I also had an overwhelming need to stop what I was doing, and go hug my son. Whenever I finish one her books, I stop and thank God for all my blessings in life. We truly take advantage of things some people have no choice over.

2.5 stars - rounding up because I love the series - but this story kind of sucks!

It was weird. Strange. Did not like the story line. At all! Just did not get the relationship. He likes her for years and screws everything that walks and thinks she is gay even though everyone knows that is not true. Is Paul stupid, or...stupid? Between the ex wife, the whoring, the pushing away, all of Friday's f'edupedness, and the TATTOO - GTFO! No, just no.

I liked this series and think the stories are strong, but this was not what I hoped to end with. After all he did for his brothers, I thought he deserved someone extraordinary. He did not got it. It just got weird.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

I freaking LOVE this series! I love each and every one of the characters, and have devoured their books, but this one shot my feels up to a new level, and I absolutely adored it! The good, the bad, and the horny, I was right there with them and I felt it all!

The Reed family is one that you definitely want to be a part of. The way that they love each other, and are there for each other, while at the same time constantly giving each other shit while being all over each other’s lives is fantastic! The dynamic between the boys is gold, and the way they love their women is just amazing. It’s what every girl deserves, and with each book I fall more and more in love with them.

This book features eldest Reed brother, Paul. He is the responsible one, the one that runs the tattoo shop where the Reed boys all work, and the one that picked up the slack and raised his four younger brothers after their mother died and their father took off. He is the protector, and has been the father figure as well as the big brother and best friend, and he loves his family above everything else in his life.

Friday is part of the extended Reed family, and her and Paul’s story has been building throughout the series. She works at the tattoo parlour with the boys, and Paul has lusted after her from afar after his brothers told him that she was a lesbian. When he finally discovers that she actually isn’t, he doesn’t waste any time and he goes after the woman he is determined to make his.

“I have a thing for you,” I admit. I wince inwardly because it sounds so lame.
“A thing?”
“A big thing.”
Her gaze drops.
“Not that thing.”

I just want to love her. That’s all. I just hope she’ll let me.

I really love the set up of Paul and Friday’s story. They know they want each other, and they both acknowledge the significance of what is between them, but the situation that they find themselves in is complicated. There is a bit of push and pull for a while, and they have some hurdles that they need to face, but they talk it through and they both know where the other stands. Friday needs to take things slow, and Paul is patient enough to wait for her, and their relationship progresses beautifully through twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting, but I love the way it all played out. And it provides Paul with the opportunity to prove how awesome he is.

“You’re it for me. You know that, right?”

Friday has been through a lot in her past, and has put up walls to protect herself. She may come across as being overly defensive and closed off at times, but as her past is revealed, I could understand why she is the way she is, and I absolutely LOVE the way that it was handled in the story. There’s no quick fix, there’s no great big moment of walls being torn down, there’s just Paul putting himself out there and willing to be there for Friday in whatever way he could be.

“I don’t want to blow all your walls to bits … I just want to live inside them with you. Fuck,” I say, throwing up my hands. “I fucking love your walls. Every single brick. But let me move in. Let me be there with you. Then you can find out if you love me, and you can invite me to stay if you find out that you do. Just let me inside.”

I love Paul! He is a great mix of deeply caring and protective while still being sexy as all hell with a filthy mouth *fans self* (oh yes, there’s all kinds of hotness going on, and it’s both passionate and full of emotion). He’s not perfect, but he knows when he’s done wrong, and he fights hard for Friday and to put things right again. And it’s his love for Friday and his determination to build a life with her that is always his driving force.

“You let me live in your fortress, Friday. I’ll protect it until the day I die. I promise.”

Each of the brothers, and their partners and children, feature a lot throughout the book, and the family time is epic as always. The teasing and banter between the boys and their girls is fantastic, and I laughed so many times! But there’s also the sweet and tender moments, and watching Paul with his daughter, from his perspective, absolutely blew me away.

I want to be the be-all and end-all when it comes to my daughter. I want to be the man that every other man has to look up to. I will treat her like a princess because if I don’t, she might go out and latch on to the first man who does. So yeah, I open car doors and I take her on dates and I buy her flowers for no reason. Because I want her to know she’s worthy of all of those things. And I fix hair.

OMG, I love him!

Paul and Friday’s story is gorgeous. The unique way that they have with each other, and the way they deal with their situation is perfect for them, and the inclusion of Paul’s family in the events as they unfolded just added to the awesome. And there’s even an epilogue set a bit into the future that left me hugging my kindle and blissfully giggling like an idiot.

I love this series, and can’t get enough of these boys! I’m gutted that there’s only one book left, but I’m looking forward to Sam’s story to finish out the series.

I absolutely loved it – 4.5 stars.

Awwwwww!!!!!

4 Estrellas!!

I actually never knew any of tammy falkner's books publication date, so when I see it on her facebook feed that her book is live is the biggest and best suprise ever!!!

We met Paul from the very first book. He's the oldest Reed brother, and I absolutely adore him, as I do with all the other Reed brothers.

Him and Friday have a very unique relationship. They enjoy "bickering", it never gets too serious to the point of bad fighting. Their always so playful and teasing with each other.

I enjoyed this book just as much as the other books.

If you guys read the other books you guys should know who kelly is. She is Paul's fuck buddy and his baby mama to Haley.
Well apparently he has a tattoo of her name on his lower stomach area, I don't know if I read too fast or what, but I have no idea why he has that. They were never really exclusive couple wise, so as far as I know they were never in love with each other. And again, not sure if I missed it or not, but I want to know if he got rid of it.... I hope he did.
I remember when I read the first book, I was totally #teamkelly, but then tammy totally changed it up on us and paired him up with Friday. In the first book Kelly totally seemed like a cool person and all, then she changed into a bitch later on in the series.

Oh and I want to know what Friday's real name is!!

and super excited for Sam's book. I've been wanting his book for a really long time!!!! I want to know why Peck taps every time she talks.

each book in the series is perfect for their MCs. that's all i need to say.

with that being said though, i must also mention the fact that i didn't love this as much as i did the last several books/novellas in this series. in no way is that indicative of the value/worth of the book, just my honest opinion. Matt's story has set the bar of excellence for me, and this wasn't there. that's all. whenever Matt and Sky were mentioned in this book, I was laughing my ass off. the rest of the time, not so much. it had a much more somber tone, which set a more serious mood for the book. i liked it though, despite, or maybe because of those little things. i feel like a proud mom reading this series, watching my babies grow up and turn into the admirable men they have become.

i'll be really sad to see the series end. maybe she can write about the members of the band and all the kids next?

A sweet and heartfelt story wrapped up in an artistically sensual package. As with all of the Reed brothers’ books, we get beautiful family ties, hilarity, sexiness and emotional depth that is Totally Talented Tammy.
“That’s the beauty of the Reeds. They look beyond the surface.”

Paul has had the hots and a bit more for Friday since the day he met her. But only until recently has his dream turned to real hope, giving his content life of taking care of his family the possibility of being even better and happier.

Friday hasn’t been alone since she started working at Reed’s, because these guys have wonderful way of taking care of their own. But she’s still erected high walls around herself to protect her secrets and her underserving heart. Does she really need to punish herself? And if she keeps pushing others away, what will it cost her?

Reading this book was like “chocolate being poured over ice cream. It was warm and soothing.” So many things happen in this book and there are numerous elements that I enjoyed that I don’t know where to start and I really don’t want to spoil any of it for you. I’ll try to cover all the bases, be brief and of course, unspoilery.
There is the ever present Reed brood love, intrinsic support for one another and fun. They’ve expanded their family into a beautiful patchwork that keeps growing with new characters.
“I love that they can be so silly, and so loving, and so…them. They don’t hide it. They don’t make a game of it. They just love. They love hard.”

There’s that bad boy vibe they give off because of their tats and piercings some visible some in more fun places, that remind us that they’re just interesting men who live by their own rules and don’t care about what others think, including gender stereotypes.

And then there’s Paul and Friday.

I didn’t think I would fall for Paul like I did for the rest of the Reed brothers. I had him compartmentalized mostly as a father figure and just didn't picture him in any roll other than Hayley's dad and the brothers' keeper. Probably because he was doing a great job at both. But he is not just selfless and loyal, he’s also determined, sweet, cute and “sex on a stick,” burning up the pages with Friday.

Even without being able to forgive herself, Friday is this strong woman who’s had a hard life and has had to make harder choices, but has found a way to not just survive, but thrive and give back.

I loved that there was no unnecessary angst between them. Paul and Friday were pretty much straight forward with each other and were quick to clear up misunderstandings. I enjoyed their open and honest communication, even though it wasn’t easy. Paul had to push and fight for what he wanted but it was worth it.

They were equally perfect for one another though. They both saw and wanted each other as they were.
“Why me?”
“Because you’re you.”

And last, but certainly not least, we get to know Sam just a tad more. He still remains a bit of a mystery to me and can’t wait to read about him. I also dread it, because it will probably be the last in the series.

This book made me laugh, swoon, blush and cry. It was perfect and just what I needed.
