An Extreme Horror story. Not intended for sensitive audiences
Darren and Jenny are a hard working couple at the end of their rope. Out of money and out of options, they decide drastic measures are needed. They rob a bank when things go horribly wrong.
Gunshots are fired and in order to escape, they must kidnap the hapless bank manager. Unfortunately for them, the manager is not what he seems. The kidnapping unleashes a chain of events they could have never imagined in their worst nightmares.
You would think that a botched robbery with a fatality and a hostage situation would be enough bad luck for Darren and Jennie for one day. Not even f’n close. Let the craziness commence and let the blood flow.
At a little over 2 hours - A quick and bloody ride that was easy to listen to and entertaining.

is one of those horror novels in which extreme violence is heaped upon the characters within with a carefree abandon. I've read many of these "extreme horror" novels, and the good ones are those that manage to develop a set of realistic characters that the reader feels something for before they are subjected to despicable things. Unfortunately, Tim Miller serves up a set of very one-note characters here who are extremely unlikeable, and therefore when bad things befall them, it had little to no impact on my reading experience.
The writing, from a technical stand point, is also fairly simple. That doesn't have to be a bad thing (just ask Jeff Strand) but here it is marred by a significant number of grammatical errors. There is also little attention to detail as there are numerous mistakes that a thorough edit should have corrected. For example, main character Jenny goes from being a blonde to a redhead within two chapters.
If you're looking for a great example of desperate people doing stupid things even if for the right reasons, check out Brian Keene's Terminal. If you're looking for violence and gore for the sake of it, here you go.
1.5 Larger Than Life Chainsaws for Bloody Bank Heist.
The bank heist is probably one of the biggest tropes in movies past, present and future. However, you very rarely see it done in books. True, the visual impact is important in a bank robbery, much like the actual process itself. Robberies are fuelled by fear and nothing is scarier then a man shoving a gun in your face. To pull this off in a book takes an element of skill.
At times, this book feels like a gun in the face. Job done. But does Bloody Bank Heist manage to do it justice?
Yes and no. The story starts out fine, a bank robbery is in process and the robbers, a down-and-out couple who desperately need the money to make their way of life better, pull off the heist. Then things go wrong. Their getaway driver leaves them high and dry. They take a hostage, the bank manager, and when they get away they realise things aren't what they seem. It soon becomes clear that the bank manager has a nasty, little secret...
Throw in a couple of predictable curveballs, a few characters who seem forced (yet they enhance the story somewhat) and an ending straight out of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and you have a solid, if slightly unpolished story. Horror fans will love this and it's clear that Miller is a true fan of horror movies. It's clear in the bloody, grotesque pages as the odds mount against the characters, homages fly without mocking the source material and Miller even pulls off a couple of great, original scenes for himself. One particular scene with a scalpel comes to mind.
The violence is solid, well written and graphic. The characters, for the most part are realistic and non-stereotypical and the story rounds out quite nicely. The problem is, by the middle of the book, you kind of forget that a bank robbery even took place. True, you're reminded sporadically throughout but by the end it seems like it could have been called something else altogether.
4*. A fast-paced story, excellent in execution but a little sloppy in preparation. A few grammar issues aside, the detail for me wasn't there. Some scenes could have been enhanced with a little more detail and I don't think it would have affected the pace of the story. As a whole though, horror fans should check this out. Miller is bold in his work and this is rare amongst horror writers. It deserves to be read for that alone.
OMG this book is twisted. I knew from the books description that the robbers were going to land in the hands of a serial killer but the rest of what happens is just mind blowing. This book makes you feel guilty for all the times you complained about having a bad day. In fact it gives all new meaning to having a bad day. LOL The story is twisted, crazy, funny at times, sick at others and just a wild ride of horror and humor. The ending was awesome. I so recommend this book.
AUDIO REVIEW......
I found the narrator to be very good at reading the book as well as giving the characters life and voice. A well as attitude and creepiness. Good job.

To quote AC/DC, "If you want blood, you got it." A simple bank robbery, born of desperation, turns shockingly deadly, and then takes another turn into the downright hellish. By the time the day reaches its violent conclusion, these unlucky thieves will wish their only punishment was a prison sentence. Because some cages are definitely worse than others...
Tim Miller has quickly risen to the upper ranks of independent extreme horror authors due to his straight-forward, no-nonsense--and dementedly twisted--exploration of human suffering. As long as this guy keeps cranking out the stomach-churning horror, there will still be life--or rather, gruesome death--left in the splatterpunk genre.
I always know that when I pick up one of Mr Miller's books I am in for a great experience. He has a certain way of capturing you into the story and feeling as though you are there experiencing it all first hand. It is so detailed and with it extreme that each word grabs you and pulls you in deeper into the book. You don't realise see or hear anything around you, just the words in the page soaking you, that you are absorbed completely. This story was great full of the macabre and brutality that Mr Miller is known for. A definite read and recommendation to any extreme horror fan.

Going by the title you may think this is a book all about a bank robbery, but it is actually only a minor part of the plot.
Darren and Jenny have been struggling financially since Darren lost his job. Desperately out of options and forced to move in with Jenny's brother Michael, an ex-con who still owes money to some shady people, they are easily persuaded to rob a bank. Unfortunately, the raid does not quite go as planned. They are forced to kidnap the bank manager in order to make their getaway. But the bank manager is not innocent either. Far from it. On top of that, the people Michael is indebted to, want their money. I can't really give any more content without spoiling the entire plot. But what ensues is an excellent horror story with fast-paced action. The violence is extremely graphic and gruesome as you would expect from a horror movie. Definitely not for the faint of heart!
This was a quick, easy listen at just over 2 hours. It held my attention throughout. The characters seemed authentic. Considering this was a very short story, I guess it is rather difficult to create more depth, so it was fine as an entertaining listen. The duration of the audiobook was actually just right. I enjoyed the gory details for a couple of hours but any longer would have become too much of the graphic violence. Though totally unrealistic, I really enjoyed the vigilante ending.
The narrator, Joe Hempel, has a nice voice that is pleasant to listen to, though it took me a little while to get used to the voice he used for Jenny. There could have been more distinction between the different voices used. Pacing, intonation and accents were fine. There were no issues with the production.
Recommended if you enjoy extreme blood splatter and horror.

In this economy, I’m positive most of us have thought about robbing a bank, right? I mean, the money is insured; it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to plan…easy, peasy. But then, someone gets stupid. The getaway car gets away before the partners in the bank. Someone tries to be a hero and gets blasted in the face. And then, the thieves take a freakin’ hostage. Can’t go anymore wrong than this, right?
Wrong. This story will definitely make you think twice about committing a crime. The choices that are made in seconds are not always the best ones and the consequences can get even more deadly than anyone anticipates.
I quite enjoyed Mr. Miller’s twisted mind. It really feels as if this is the part you don’t see or read about when watching or reading about the people who do not have their heads on straight.
I gave it three stars because I liked it. Yet it definitely could have had more depth to balance out the insanity: more emotion, less stoic explanations for the reasons behind everything.
Do you ever get so intoxicated that you can't read and enjoy your favorite genres? I know I do. Even so, I'm proud to say that I just got pretty messed up and I was able to follow this story . . . and I enjoyed it! I would have enjoyed it without the intoxicants, but the plots and characters are simple enough that a scrambled brain can still easily comprehend the incredible tale. I will be coming back for more.
An excellent horror/thriller book! It was so good and captured my attention right away that it felt like I finished the book in an hour. I won't give out any spoilers but I would recommend this book to any horror fans out there.
A short jaunt through a slice of the lives of some rather unusual individuals with a fair amount of the red stuff as the title offers. It was entertaining but it could've been fleshed out a little more. I'd say it went too many places in its short run-time.
