n the shadows of the kink community, there are stories of an enigmatic man known only as Daddy. He has a bottomless supply of drugs, a warm place to sleep, and the capacity to fulfill any sexual desire. For those who are desperate, Daddy is both seducer and saviour. And all he asks for is everything.

Pup is a homeless femboy who has recently lost the love of their life and has only memories to comfort them. When they meet up with Daddy and accept a place to stay, they are led into a strange world of drugs, eroticism, and degradation. But Daddy uncannily knows all, sees all, and can appear out of the shadows. With a look and a word, he holds them all in his thrall.

What is the dark secret behind Daddy's power over them? Are Pup and his new roommates Daddy's beloved, or are they captives in a macabre trap capable of destroying both their will and their very humanity?

"A lewd and manic story that wraps you in the depths of kinky sex, drugs, and barbaric abuse. My most 'What the fuck?' (in the best possible way) read of the year." - Bridgett Nelson, Splatterpunk Award-winning author of Red Inside and A Bouquet of Viscera.

Winner 1st Annual Ultimate Bizarro Showdown!

Garrett Cook was born in Wenham, Massachusetts July 19th, 1982. There are other details, but they're depressing or banal, with the exception of his haunted birthplace, his struggle with bipolar and a brief, unfortunate cancer scare. Yawn. Garrett Cook's work is far more interesting. He examines crises of faith and conscience through a pulpy, surreal or magorealistic lens to create magical, paranoid worlds that he hopes will entertain, antagonize and endear you. His books Murderland part 1:h8, Murderland 2:Life During Wartime and Archelon Ranch and Jimmy Plush, Teddy Bear Detective are available on Amazon. He is one of the creators and editors of the magazine Imperial Youth Review.

What people are saying about Murderland Part 1: H8

"Perhaps he’s right. Perhaps that meat cleaver is our best hope for salvation. Or maybe he belongs in an asylum. MURDERLAND is a brutally shocking book. Demented. Logical. Disturbing. It can be crudely powerful one moment, tenderly skillful the next, so the reader never knows what’s coming. There’s no way to prepare. No way to protect yourself. Garrett Cook’s work has an edge … and it’s at your throat."-
Robert Dunbar, author of The Shore and Martyrs and Monsters

"The offbeat brilliance of this book will freak your face off-"
Gina Ranalli, author of Mother Puncher, Sky Tongues and House of Fallen Leaves

"I have not read a debut novel this good in a long time (or as far as I could remember)"- Jordan Krall, author of Piecemeal June and Squidpulp Blues

"An intense, satirical and above all entertaining read"- Andersen Prunty, author of Zerostrata and the Overwhelming Urge

"A savage, very original satire that openly mocks the American demigod-like worship of worthless celebrity with a future where despicable murderers become our new focus of adoration. It's as farcical as Swift's "A Modest Proposal," yet no less poignant."-
bravenewworks.com

"Action! Explosions! Hot broads! Garrett Cook is two-fisted Bizarro pulp. I love his stories"-
Jeff Burk, author of SHATNERQUAKE

Starts off as a story of lonely, desperate sex workers being abused and taken advantage of by a mysterious man known as Daddy. Story takes a supernatural twist and oh does Daddy have it coming! Story of empowerment, revenge and unity for those being taken advantage of. Along with some nasty sex and gore. Nice short read with an intense ending.

Synopsis: Pup, a sub, lost his Dom and finds a home with Daddy. But Daddy is known in the community for sinister reasons and Pup finds that not Doms are created equal.

First line: “Cosmology of satin.”

Favorite line: ‘“Easy for you to say”, said Pup to themselves. “You’re already dead.”’

Thoughts: Cook knows how to unsettle readers from the first page and this is no exception. The sympathy for the characters are real as is the hate we, the readers, have to feel. And the title… friends, the title is perfection.

Rating: 5/5

Amazing read! As soon as I saw this book, I knew that I had to get my hands on it, and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest! It was even better than I anticipated. I loved the characters, the story, the general atmosphere, everything. It's dark, creepy, disturbing, but also strangely hopeful and poetic

Daddy’s house is one of pleasure. Where everyone is loved. Where he takes care of everyone. Anyone can live out their wildest dreams at Daddy’s house. There’s no better place in the world.

But is any of this really true?

Garrett Cook takes us in a world where extreme horror fans have never explored before. One where you’re not sure if you should be enjoying all the orgies or yelling at the inhabitants to leave.

This book focuses on Pup, a cute femboy who loves nothing more than to serve and be the most obedient doggo to Daddy.

But what happens when Daddy and his friends play rough? Will Pup whimper in the corner? Or will Pup lead the pack?

I love how this book is different from others in this genre. Unlike similar novels, Daddy doesn’t lock his captives in a dungeon and disembowel them. He keeps them drugged and happy—so happy that they don’t want to leave. It messed with my emotions and left me so irritated yet fascinated by all the curveballs Cook was throwing at me.

I’ve also been a fan of Cook’s writing ever since I read Charcoal. He digs into the poesis of blood and carnage, crafting descriptions that are awe-inspiring yet are grotesque. This one is no different. Each word captures you, as if you’re one of Daddy’s willing participants in his evocative game.

There were a couple of things in this book that didn’t appeal to me as much as Cook’s other works. In this one, there are a lot of characters, and it’s easy to lose track of who’s who.

While I loved the ending, the scenes leading up to the finale were off. I still have many unanswered questions and I felt some of these parts dragged on longer than they should have.

That said, I still love this book and will recommend all of Cook’s work to anyone who wants to indulge in sick, twisted, and queer extreme horror!

The story is told from a few perspectives, all abused in some way. A small group of them end up fighting back with some supernatural help.

The beginning took me a little longer to grasp because it is written as the characters are thinking, so there are repetitions that made me question what I was reading. It ended up making the story stronger. Good book.
