I received a free copy of, Winter Magic In Port Berry, by K.T. Dady, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 3 of 3 in The Port Berry Series. Ginny Dean is doing just fine, until Will moves into Port Berry, wanting to open a Tea Shop, next to her Cafe. I really liked Ginny and Port Berry, a wonderful place to celebrate the holidays. This was a nice holiday read.

Set in the stunning town of Port Berry, the story follows Ginny and Will.
This is the third book in the series so I can imagine there's some residents from previous books, however this doesn't make the read "unreadable" or that your missing anything because it's the total opposite.
Fantastic storyline with Will and Ginny sharing conflict interests over business plans.
Ginny runs the local cafe, and will wants to open a tea room right next door, I mean what could possibly go wrong?
They simply can't deny their feelings for each other at this moment in time.
Such a gorgeous festive romance, which is full of Christmassy vibes, warmth and comfort from beginning to end.
Having noticed they both had insecurities it was wonderful to see them come together and support each other. Definitely a snuggle up read with a hot chocolate next to a cosy fire

Thank you for allowing me to read and review, all reviews by myself are voluntary and I am not paid to do this.

Thank you @joffeebooks and @kt_dady for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

My thoughts:
A heartwarming story full of love and festive magic.
I loved the main characters, Ginny and Will. Each one has their own personal issues and pains.
Can they face their fears?
Can they find happiness?
Most of all, can they find peace?
Will a little winter magic help them achieve their dreams?
Winter Magic in Port Berry is perfect for your holiday reading.

I love visiting Port Berry and catching up with the friendly community there. Ginny hasn’t had an easy upbringing and she’s busy running her cafe. Will comes to Port Berry to look for his grandmother. When they meet the attraction is obvious but there are a few obstacles in the way. A lovely read with an uplifting ending.

I think the best way of summing up this book is by saying the quote “A family is what you make it.” The book opens with Will meeting his grandmother who he’d never known having spent his early life being brought up in care then joining the navy as soon as he could. He’s here to learn what he can about the family he never knew. Meanwhile, Ginny, who runs the town’s most loved cafe, does all she can for her mum including trying to hunt down her favourite jam for breakfast not that she will receive much thanks for it. Two very different families, neither perfect.

Will has also decided he’d like to finally set down some roots and Port Berry has everything to offer him including surprise friendships in the locals who go out of their way to welcome him and include him in everything from the local food bank to helping him find premises for a new business venture. Ginny meets him by chance and the sparks are already there amongst the party atmosphere of Halloween.

You read this book to the backdrop of a fantastic town where everyone seems to know everyone and festivities are celebrated by everyone together. It’s cosy and warm like a fluffy blanket and hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day. But don’t let it fool you, there are unexpected twists and turns that will have you laughing out loud, feeling miserable on behalf of Ginny and Will, then you’ll have just got over that when you want to knock their heads together. And finally reaching that “awwwww” moment.

It’s the friendship of those around them that help them to see that family is the one you make for yourself.

Read a truly heartwarming tale with that warm blanket tucked in around you and hot chocolate at the ready (along with a box of tissues).

This was just.. sad. I say this as a horror fiend who doesn't bat an eye to the most British shit imaginable but I wish this book provided any inkling of the triggers that are main plot points from the off. The description makes it sound like you’re standard romance, set at Christmas, with interpersonal conflict. It makes no mention of the parental abuse, death, trauma, or conversations including SA. I would not have picked this up if I knew major plot points would be about caring for sick/dying family, parental abuse, guilt, and so much talk about care homes (including a mystical magical perfect care home that doesn’t exist on the planet). This wasn't the cosy Christmas romance I expected, and the main conflict it details in the blurb is like 10% of the book, if that, right towards the end, and resolved with a grand gesture instead of COMMUNICATION.

Speaking of mystical magical perfect things that don't exist: it's set in a town that welcomes everyone with open arms as if they were family, readily getting involved in their life to help as exactly as they need. This continues throughout the book and is wildly unbelievable. I also found the romance lacking, and it felt more like they wanted to be together because neither wanted to be alone and hey, at least you're decent to look at. It was littered with poor communication throughout, and they spent swathes of time not speaking. Their final reconciliation was very brief and they didn't really discuss any of their issues or major life decisions they were diving head first into. There were many moments where I was rolling my eyes and this was just not what I wanted nor what I expected.

I appreciated the nod towards chronic illness, however it was very brief and could have been utilised more. I would've preferred that the book focus on key characters and relationships, instead of the sea of intermingling townsfolk. I did like the elements of genuinely caring for each other and the 'found family' Christmas meal, but there wasn't enough genuine connections that demonstrated WHY these people are so ready to jump in and sort your life out. I also can't believe that Will was the first person to hear any of the abuse Ginny was subject to - he doesn’t have superhearing and it's a busy body town, I guarantee people knew and did nothing, which really ruins the friendly charm the book was trying to convey. It didn't feel cosy and quirky like Stars Hollow, but like they were fuelled by a desperate need to "care" for every little lost lamb (aka adult who's perfectly capable). With this abuse being so prominent throughout, it really didn't add that much other than to serve as another thing for the couple to argue about. I massively relate to Ginny struggling with her guilt and caring for someone who did nothing but hurt you, but that was not the book I was promised. Ginny offhandedly mentions therapy in two reconciliations but there was very little development - I want action not words.

If I'm honest, the triggering subjects involved (some I haven’t detailed to avoid spoilers that I have further issues with) really soured my experience of the book and really need to be featured in the blurb when they’re featured in the book from the off, and it wouldn't spoil anything to give a heads up on familial illness and abuse. For these reasons, combined with a subpar romance (that was mostly arguments and not talking to each other with a few kisses in between), I can't rate this highly. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I have read another book in K T Dady's Port Berry series, and whilst there was conflict involved in that book, I found the overall vibe to be joyful and uplifting. Unfortunately, I just didn't get the same warm fuzzy feeling from this book. Will is new to Port Berry, desperate to find out more about where he came from and struggling to understand where his place in the world should be. Ginny, a long-term Port Berry resident, is struggling to deal with some serious past trauma that has scarred her. Then there is a chance encounter between the two lonely people longing for some solace...

It sounds a very sweet Christmas story. But there's a lot more to this story than meets the eye, which in a way is a good thing - it has much more hidden depth than your average Christmas romance. However, I didn't feel the angst involved is truly dealt with in a positive way. Ginny is incredibly hurt by her past, that much is obvious, but the way she reacts to Will several times during the book doesn't portray her as a sympathetic character. I didn't feel enough of the connection between Will and Ginny is shown, only the conflict. It's not obvious why Will is so quickly and hopelessly devoted to Ginny, when she's doing her utmost to push him away at almost every turn. The chemistry that is supposed to be between them didn't come across to me - they both seem too immersed in their own troubles. But there is a charming cheeky cast of supporting characters, who never failed to make me smile with their positive attitudes.

Ultimately, this is a romance, and it does have a lovely ending. But be warned, it's also very sad in places, dealing with major issues, such as abuse and abandonment. It does try to be cozy and Christmassy, but there is a little too much anguish involved. Whilst it's very well written, a little lighter touch would have made this a truly uplifting holiday read.

Thanks to Joffe Books for my free ARC in return for an honest review.

**Winter Magic in Port Berry**

Port Berry #3

Immerse yourself in this tale brimming with love and the enchanting spirit of the holiday season. Much lies beneath the surface of this story, presenting a rich narrative that can easily stand on its own—this was my first encounter with both the author and the series. It beautifully deals with how challenging childhood experiences shape adult relationships, though I felt the conclusion rushed toward the end. At times, Ginny's character tested my patience, and I yearned for a deeper, more palpable chemistry between her and Will.

In the quaint town of Port Berry, Ginny Dean enjoys a simple, serene life as the proprietor of the town's beloved café. Her peaceful existence is turned upside down with the arrival of the strikingly handsome and mysterious Will Pendleton. Will has come back to Port Berry, driven by a quest to uncover secrets about his family's heritage, and his presence ignites something within Ginny that she never expected.

As sparks of attraction ignite between them during the annual holiday party in town, the atmosphere is thick with festive wonder. Laughter and joy fill the air, but the budding romance also carries an undercurrent of tension.

Just when Ginny feels a glimmer of hope, Will drops a bombshell: he plans to open a tearoom right next to her café. In an instant, her lifelong dream of having her own tearoom seems to slip through her fingers, as it feels like this charming newcomer has stolen her aspirations.

But Will isn't leaving Port Berry anytime soon, and fate intervenes when a snowstorm strands them together. In the warmth of shared vulnerability, they uncover deeper feelings and a connection that transcends their initial rivalry.

As Christmas approaches, both Will and Ginny must confront their innermost fears and take a leap of faith toward happiness, learning that sometimes love blooms in the most unexpected places.

I'm a little sad that I hadn't noticed that this was actually a book 3 in the Port Berry series - and the first book that I'd read both in the series and by this author.
But what I love about this type of series is that this worked well enough as a standalone read for me.

Set in the beautiful town of Port Berry - which might I just say, I just have to go and visit! - this second chance romance follows the story of Ginny and Will.

Now, I definitely get the feeling that we meet some long standing residents in this book that will have returned from the other 2 books - but this never feels as though I've missed out on anything - the characters pop up and play their parts in this storyline perfectly - but I do love this little village and will be catching up with the other books soon!

This was a lovely storyline with Ginny and Will coming into conflict over business ideas and plans.
Ginny having run the village's only cafe and Will planning to open up a tearoom right next door!
But the chemistry is there and the more they come together, the more they can't deny their feelings towards each other.

I love a festive romance and this really gave me those Christmas feels right from the start.
I loved Ginny and Will and was rooting for them throughout.
Both having their own insecurities, it was great to see them develop over the course of the book and to see the support they both offered each other despite their differences.

This was a great first read and perfect to snuggle with a blanket and hot drink and just completely immerse myself for the whole weekend.
I'll be catching up soon and am already looking forward to seeing who will be the focus of the other books...and any future reads too.

Another life affirming trip to this lovely community in Cornwall

This was my second visit to Port Berry although it is the third book in the series. It introduces a new main character Will and lets us get to know more about Ginny who has featured in the previous books. Certain aspects are predictable and indeed expected in a Romance, two characters meet have an immediate spark travel through some tricky times to an eventually happy ending. However the story is much more rounded than that, it faces upto everyday issues in a way that is accessible and indeed the outcomes are less coloured by rose tinted spectacles. The search for birth family does not have a fairy tale ending, family relationship issues are not magically solved by a neat easy solution. Both main characters struggle with issues of an elderly relative needing care with different outcomes reflecting differing financial situations. Underlying it all is the supportive community that is Port Berry.
The only slight issues I have are: firstly having written so clearly about Ginny and Will’s issues with trust etc in relationships I think the story offers at least one hurdle too many for their very new relationship to overcome given their previous reluctance to enter relationships for fear of being let down, and secondly I find a few of the writers turns of phrase a bit jarring but think that speaks more to my age than any real problem with the writer.
I thank Joffe books for the opportunity to have an advanced copy and confirm the above review reflects my honest opinion.

Winter Magic!

I fell in love with this series at book one. Port Berry seems like such a wonderful magical place to live. Kind, caring neighbors always willing to help, assist in any way possible with anything needed. So I was eagerly waiting for book 3, so please forgive me when I say I started to stop reading almost immediately and was tempted to delete despite having purchased it instead of borrowing from kindle unlimited. The reason being Ginny's Mum which hit a sore spot for me having known and come into contact with this type of bitter unpleasant type of individual. And she didn't even have the excuse of dementia as a reason for her harshness! But then a wonderful thing happened, the magic all at once appeared!

Ginny who owns the cafe and is such a sweet caring soul meets a newcomer to Port Berry. Will is searching for his birth mother and any family members as he grew up in foster care. Finding his grandmother seems like a dream come true, but then the reality of the situation causes his dream to disappear and his hopes to crash. Ginny and Will seem like kindred souls, can they become more than friends and help each other to heal?

The characters I have grown to know and love from books one and two are in abundance here. Sharing their special brand of wisdom, care and love. I am glad that I stuck with this one, I would have missed a treat. Sometimes you just have to get past the unpleasant part of life to find the joy, sunshine and rainbows. I hope there are more Port Berry books to come. 👏👏🌟🌟💞

This is another go to author for me, and you know what that means. Yes, as soon as I see another book coming out by the author, I just have to read it. I've read quite a few of the author's books but not quite all and I need to remedy that.
I feel as though the characters could be neighbors and friends with me in this small-town charmer of a book. Not too long as to make you bogged down reading it's the perfect length for a cozy afternoon in reading.
The thing I really enjoy, and it continues on in this book of the authors is how realistic it is. By this I mean the book isn't all peaches and cream, unfortunately we all have things we experience or go through that aren't the best, but we certainly work on improving them.
A character returns to Port Berry, and he has a lot to deal with, will he come to think of it as home though? There are themes of dementia, and we follow another character on a healing journey. The healing journey was really beautiful to see because this character isn't alone one step of the way, they have so much support. The characters are fun and supportive. This is one of the things I liked so much about the book, how the characters are really there for each other in their time of need. No one is allowed to feel alone or unsupported and I loved it.
Warmth, fun and wisdom you can feel coming right through the pages.
Highly recommended.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

I make no secret that one of my most loved tropes is forced proximity. It makes me happy wriggle. It’s that delicious balance of tension and cosiness for me. So Winter Magic gets a big tick for that!

Another big tick are the descriptions of Port Berry. They really bring the fictional town to life and make you want to visit. And the town is full of delightful characters that give this book its heartbeat.

Against this setting comes Will and Ginny. Will was brought up in care and has arrived at Port Berry to find what family connections he can. Ginny has a traditional upbringing, but with a mother who’s distant and hyper-critical. Though there are sparks, their romance takes a while which, given their backgrounds, is understandable and makes the reader believe in their story.

There is a real sense of found family in Winter Magic. However, while it is a romance and has the HEA payoff, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There’s Ginny’s mum – whom I’d happily strangle – and Will’s mission isn’t as successful as he longs for. Yet these are the bumps along the road to happiness. Does jostling over them hurt? Yes. Such is life. But at no point are things so dark that you can’t see the lighter side. Nothing ever seems hopeless.

I absolutely adored my first visit to Port Berry and will not only be going back to read the first two books, I’m eager for the next in the series!

As I am a huge fan of this Author's other series, Pepper Bay, I was delighted to have the opportunity to read one of the Port Berry series. I understand this is the third book but I read it as standalone.

I really enjoy this author's writing style. It is so easy to read and hard to put down. Her characters are all very relatable and the books always have a wonderful friendship and community spirit vibe.

I took to Ginny and Will straight away, however, I didn't like how Ginny overreacted and treated Will at times. The supportimg cast are great, there is such an eclectic mix and this adds to the story.

Although it looks like a cosy Christmas read, there are some heavier topics within, including adoption, childhood trauma and parental death so be prepared.

I will definitely be reading the first 2 books now so that I can catch up with the other residents' stories.

Will has arrived in Port Berry after a long stint in the navy looking for answers to his past from his grandmother Babs.
Ginny is caring for vile mother who makes her life a misery and trying to run her cafe.
When they meet it's a combustible situation and sparks fly.
But despite that they are still instantly attracted to each other and the inevitable happens.
Things go smoothly until will mentions he wants to open a tea room which is a long held dream of Ginny's too.
It causes a huge rift between them and it looks like their dream of a relationship is doomed due to situations getting in the way.
As the festive season approaches can it bring goodwill to all men and MAYBE a happy ever after?
This was a magical, whimsical seasonal novel bringing the joy of Christmas and new beginnings.
Absolutely loved it.

This is the third book in the Port Berry series, and I was looking forward to it because I liked Ginny in the previous ones and wanted to find out if she'd get the tearoom of her dreams (plus the man of her dreams, but of course that's a given in the romance genre). And Will is a new character, but I immediately liked him too, so I enjoyed reading both their points of view.
Just a warning for readers in search of Christmas fluff: this story actually contains more trauma and sadness than "winter magic". It's good (no reason to remove a star), but not really suitable for "just cute and fun" reading, so better saved for a different kind of mood.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Winter Magic in Port Berry is a lovely little read. It has similar vibes to a Hallmark movie, with one of the main characters, Will, coming to town to reunite with his lost family. Upon arriving, Will is quickly accepted into the community of Port Berry, where the people all seem to get along (for the most part) and have a strong sense of community.

Although the story is not innovative in what it does, it is a lovely read - perfect for reading in front of a fire with a warm drink to bring about the holiday season feelings. The story is a bit predictable, but there is something wonderful in that, as it is a lovely tale.

I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who wants a cozy story, or who loves Hallmark movies. If those aren't your thing, this book may not be for you.

I'm reviewing this as part of a tour with Hygge Book Tours.

This is part of the Port Berry series, and I haven't read any of the previous books, but I really liked the sound of this.

Even at the start, I found I was smiling. The writing had a lighthearted tone, and a cosy quality that I enjoyed. I quickly warmed to the main characters, Will and Ginny; I found that some of their behaviours and interactions made me chuckle.

As the story progressed, I connected with Ginny and Will on a deeper level, and as I became invested, there were a few tearjerker moments. This was heartwarming and sweet, a little bit like a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter evening.

Thank you to Hygge Book Tours, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.

This is a really wonderful heart breaker of a story, but as its a romance you know it will probably come good at the end.
Will and Ginny meet at a difficult time for them both and each supports the other. They have their loved ones in need of them as well. The stories of these folk are unfortunately so common place in our lives my heart goes out to them. It felt like I was living with them. The author writes with great compassion and feeling. Make yourself a hot chocolate and sit comfortably as I'm sure, like me, you will read it in one go! Enjoy.

This is the third in the Port Berry series.
The cover promises a joyful and uplifting Christmas romance and that is exactly what this book offers. We are introduced to Ginny and Will and neither are in a good place in their lives.
The writer has created a wonderful place called Port Berry and draws you into the middle of this community very quickly with lots of interesting characters. The story develops with plenty of surprises along the way.
With Christmas approaching, both Will and Ginny must learn to face their own fears and take a chance on happiness. And perhaps they need a little winter magic to help . . . A very enjoyable read.

I do enjoy the Port Berry books, you get a real sense of place and, as a Cornwall aficionado I definitely feel I’ve been there on holiday! The story is much as you’d expect, once the chemistry between Ginny and Will becomes obvious it is clear something is going to go wrong, but we all know things will turn out right for them in the end. This generic tale is bolstered by a really interesting cast of characters , all of them entertaining but believable ; choosing Winter rather than Summer for a Cornwall based book also gives the book its own atmosphere. Lovely uplifting read!

A Lovely Book

It’s lovely to be back in Port Berry again. Ginny runs the local café and has dreams of opening a tea room as well but her dream could be snatched away by the arrival of Will. He was brought up in care and has come to trace his family roots. He is also looking for a business investment and decides a tearoom would be ideal, even though he cannot cook. They are instantly attracted to each other but will they be able to overcome their differences? This is a lovely book and it did make me cry at times.

A very enjoyable story about two people, Will and Ginny, who both have had difficult upbringings, meeting when Will moves to the lovely coastal town of Port Berry.

Will is seeking lost family and sets out to become involved in activities and help the community, during which he encounters and falls for Ginny.

Their developing relationship and pitfalls along the way are well written and the novel is a joy to read.

This book stands alone though it is very much part of the author’s series set in this attractive location.

What a lovely place is Port Berry... So wholesome! I read this book not knowing it was part of a series, and now I can't wait to get my paws on the rest of the books.

I felt so bad for Ginny initially, but really loved her strength and grit... So when she meets her chance at an HEA who am I to question it... I enjoyed this holiday season book!

This book is more than just a cosy Christmas romance though. It deals with some big and difficult topics too, which add a lot of depth to the story.

I picked this one up, thinking it would be a quick, sweet Christmas romance. But the story didn't really work for me.

There were elements I loved. The found family, the charming small seaside town, the amazing secondary characters, and how the town came together to welcome strangers and help those in their town in need.

The romance started off as cute. But, it quickly became problematic for me. The story tried to tackle a pretty serious issue. Our female main character, Ginny, grew up emotionally abused by her mother. She never shared this with any of her friends. When handsome Will shows up in town looking for his grandmother and to learn more about his past, there are instant sparks. But, with Ginny's past, she keeps pushing Will away, but in major ways.

You'd expect with her background, Ginny would struggle trusting, and so the push and pull was a bit expected. I think, though, that this was too big a topic to introduce in a short, sweet romance. The push and pull because of Ginny's traumatic background felt frenzied and not fully explored. Instead of feeling empathetic to Ginny, I found her really immature. I think I would have enjoyed it more if this storyline was developed more, or if it was just a sweet romance story.

This is the third in a series. The series is more about the town, with each book exploring a different character, so it definitely can be read as a stand-alone.

Thanks to Joffe Books for the advanced digital copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

A good addition to the series. While I understood the trauma and it's impact on main character Ginny, her harsh treatment of love interest was a bit much for me. I was really half hoping he'd move on as it was pretty rough. But overall all, putting that aside it was a good read.

Full disclosure - I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

I didn’t love this book but nor did i hate it.It was just fine for me, the way it’s written was my main issue.I don’t think it’s written bad but it’s just not written in a way I enjoy which was a let down.I did enjoy the characters and the plot a lot though. It was a sweet christmas book perfect for that time of year.

Thank you Netgalley for the arc.

Winter Magic in Port Berry: K T Dady

I am loving the stories in this series, I get a Happy fix every time I read a chapter. They always get a happy ending, wouldn’t that be a lovely world. Nothing ever gets left out though the characters get hurt and upset and it all ends well. I thoroughly recommend these short happy books.

Entertaining

I’ve enjoyed all the Port Berry books but I was disappointed with the character of Ginny. She had a horrible upbringing but so did Will and she was twice very mean to him and he ended up having to make up both times. She explained why she was like that but if she really loved him she should have gone to him straight away and apologised.
