A Slice of Madness

The more I read the more I became convinced that there are seeds of greatness in Roland's writing. His imagery is lush and at times exquisite, his stories playful and imaginative. At times I couldn't stop reading for I was so deeply wrapped in the enchantment of an engaging story or admiring his beautifully poetic prose. The stories in this collection were diverse and often written with different voices, always leaving me hungry for more. They play a fine balance of dramatic events and the inner life of the characters and many of the tales beg to be read aloud by a fire in the hearth, surrounded by the hush voice of night. The only sad thing was that there weren't more stories to read and that some were begging to be developed into larger pieces with extended plots. Roland has assured me that he is working on this. This guy has loads of talent and I am seriously looking forward to reading his longer creative works in the future. Roland is an author to follow as he stretches and strengthens his literary muscles and weaves his imagination into grander tapestries.

Here are some of the stories in this collection:
A man becomes enchanted by a nymph in the woods.
Driven by a singular urge, a brilliant young man finally creates a time machine.
Exploring the frontiers of our galaxy a man encounters and follows a mysterious woman.
An amusing tale of an alien wolf species that has a most strange encounter.
In a connected future, a prisoner reflects on his downfall into darkness.
A gladiator on an alien world fights for more than his life.
Hiding from his past a man must come to terms with the demons.

*I wish I could say more but you really need to read these stories for yourself!

As a writer, I have benefited from experiencing Roland’s imagination and descriptive turn of phrase. It will make me a better writer.
His description does what all writers strive to do, and that is to transport the reader to the world they have created.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read, and in particular “Nymph”, “Runalli-4”, and “One Thousand Steps”
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

I'm a little biased because I wrote it. People tell me they love the book though. :-)
