Lucille Van Zandt has always been more captivated by her whimsical newspaper strip, Lucy LaMode’s Fashionable Frolics, than Manhattan’s social whirl. But when her parents insist she travel to London to secure a titled husband, Lucy has one condition: she will not give up her comic.
Frederick, Marquess of Harlington, has one hope: this marriage will be real. His family’s estate is faltering, and without substantial dowries, his beloved sisters face uncertain futures. A wealthy bride is not a romantic ambition—it is a necessity.
Lucy’s fortune could restore everything he stands to lose. Yet the more Frederick admires her independence, the harder it becomes to view their courtship as a transaction. And Lucy, determined to protect her art at any cost, may find that the life she agreed to is nothing like the one she feared.

She makes her home in the South Carolina lowcountry with her beloved dog, Dollie Madison (2005-2022).
Lucy is a debutante who just wants to draw, but her cruel mother expect her to be like Consuelo Vanderbilt and marry an English lord, so they take her from New York to London for the social season. Freddie is a marquis who has no money and sells his family treasures to stay afloat. He also has two sisters he loves who need to get married but they can't afford it.
He is going to attend a ball and find an heiress to save them all. Meanwhile, Lucy sneaks into the same party to get inspiration for her illustrations. She wants to draw a comic making fun of the nobles because they look down on girls like her all the time. She meets Freddie and the story really begins. I liked to root for Freddie and Lucy to pursue their dreams!
Just as good as the author's other books. I want to read the next one about the Scottish lord.
