Blog: Show Me A Hero

Show me a hero and I’ll write you a tragedy.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Love isn’t perfect, and marriage isn’t always easy. In fact, so many romance novels end when the marriage begins. People change after marriage—some for better, some for worse—and I don’t think its fair to base someone’s love story on the easiest part of their romance, while leaving out the difficult times, the sad times, and the times when they questions.../>

“But he did love her, and love had been known to make giants out of even the smallest men.”
Allyson Jeleyne, A Love That Never Tires

“Real love wasn’t about happy endings. It was about the moments spent together, and what you made of them.”
Allyson Jeleyne, A Love That Never Tires

“Why try to fit yourself into that same, tired mold when you could become something better?"

"Because it's safe," he said. "Don't we all want to feel safe?"

Linley shrugged. "Not always. Sometimes I like to push the boundaries. I like seeing what I'm truly capable of."

The both ducked down to miss a long, overhanging branch that skimmed across the jungle path.

"But you could get hurt," Patrick said. "You could get yourself killed."

"Isn't death the one risk of really living?”
Allyson Jeleyne, A Love That Never Tires

Topics Mentioning This Author

“I've never been lonely. I've been in a room -- I've felt suicidal. I've been depressed. I've felt awful -- awful beyond all -- but I never felt that one other person could enter that room and cure what was bothering me...or that any number of people could enter that room. In other words, loneliness is something I've never been bothered with because I've always had this terrible itch for solitude. It's being at a party, or at a stadium full of people cheering for something, that I might feel loneliness. I'll quote Ibsen, "The strongest men are the most alone." I've never thought, "Well, some beautiful blonde will come in here and give me a fuck-job, rub my balls, and I'll feel good." No, that won't help. You know the typical crowd, "Wow, it's Friday night, what are you going to do? Just sit there?" Well, yeah. Because there's nothing out there. It's stupidity. Stupid people mingling with stupid people. Let them stupidify themselves. I've never been bothered with the need to rush out into the night. I hid in bars, because I didn't want to hide in factories. That's all. Sorry for all the millions, but I've never been lonely. I like myself. I'm the best form of entertainment I have. Let's drink more wine!”
Charles Bukowski

“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”
Edgar Allan Poe

“
Loneliness is the human condition. Cultivate it. The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow. Never expect to outgrow loneliness. Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space. An intelligent, sensitive person is the exception, the very great exception. If you expect to find people who will understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment. The best you'll ever do is to understand yourself, know what it is that you want, and not let the cattle stand in your way.”
Janet Fitch, White Oleander

“The trouble is not that I am single and likely to stay single, but that I am lonely and likely to stay lonely.”
Charlotte Brontë

“All great and precious things are lonely.”
John Steinbeck, East of Eden
