Let me just start by saying I devoured Eye of Fire in under 24 hours — this book had its claws in me fast. Was the FMC, Ophelia, a little bit of a handful in the beginning? Absolutely. Did her bestie make me want to yeet her right out of the friend zone? Also yes. But here’s the thing: despite the rocky start with the characters, the story delivered.

The plot? Solid. Engaging. Had me guessing and second-guessing the whole time. Some twists I caught (patting myself on the back), but others totally blindsided me — and listen, making me gasp out loud is not an easy feat.

We’ve got witches slinging elemental magic, vampires with secret jaguar-shifting abilities (yes, you read that right), missing moms, family mysteries, and a pretty intense artifact hunt. If you’re new to adult fantasy and want something that dips a toe into all the magical chaos without dragging you straight into the deep end, Eye of Fire is a perfect entry point.

Now, let’s talk smut. Was there some? Yes. Was it… fulfilling? Ehh, not so much. The scenes were blink-and-you-miss-it short and not what I, a dedicated smut enthusiast, was hoping for. Honestly, I almost would’ve preferred a full closed-door treatment over what we got — but here’s the kicker: the story was so good, I didn’t even think about quitting. That says a lot.

The letter scene? Wrecked me. Completely unexpected feels. And that cliffhanger ending? Yeah, I’m 100% coming back for book two, no question.

Overall, while the smut levels were tamer than I like and the bestie needs to earn her title back, I can’t be mad at this book. Eye of Fire gave me a wild, emotional ride and kept me hooked from start to finish. Definitely rounding up to 3.5 stars because it made me feel — and that’s the whole point, isn’t it?

Title: Eye of Fire: The Wildes Witch Trilogy (Book 1)

“The jaguar, the man, the glass, and the hand.”

Ophelia Wilde, a law student raised by her loving uncles, has always been haunted by the mysterious disappearance of her mother, Celeste. Despite trying to manage her anxiety through running and yoga, she’s become obsessed with finding answers. A trip to Europe with her best friend, Alex, quickly turns into a solo mission to the last place her mom was seen alive. Things get weird fast—she starts seeing strange things, like a jaguar turning into a man in the middle of New York City. That man, Luka, turns out to be a centuries-old vampire who reveals that Ophelia is one of the last descendants of a powerful line of fire witches—and her mother’s legacy isn’t just magical, it’s dangerous. Now, caught in a hidden world of vampires, witches, and fae all hunting for a lost amulet, Ophelia has to figure out who she really is—and fast—before they catch up to her.

Vampires. Witches. Magic. Fated mates. Fae. Prophecies. A missing mom. An artifact everyone’s after. Yep, Eye of Fire packs it all in. The worldbuilding is solid, the twists keep coming, and while the spice is there, it’s super brief—definitely not the steamy highlight (for a vampire) some might expect. It’s an easy, engaging read that’s perfect for anyone wanting to dip into adult fantasy without getting overwhelmed.

A big thanks to The Author Agency and Carrie Vixenhart for providing me with a digital ARC of this book!

Eye of Fire blends it all—bloodsuckers, spellcasters, mystical bonds, the fae, foretold destinies, a long-lost mother, and a legendary object everyone’s desperate to find. The lore is immersive, the narrative full of unexpected turns, and while there’s a dash of romance, it’s fleeting—not the sultry vampire drama some might anticipate. It’s a light, captivating read—perfect for readers curious about adult fantasy without diving into something too dense or intense.

Ophelia has always had a sixth sense—unnerving episodes that warn her when something bad is about to happen. But when she heads to Italy to uncover the truth behind her mother’s mysterious disappearance years ago, she stumbles into a reality far stranger than she ever imagined: a hidden world filled with witches, vampires, and fae… and she’s one of them.

Her path crosses with Luka, a captivating vampire whose presence is as dangerous as it is magnetic. Through him, Ophelia is pulled into the heart of a supernatural struggle, where every faction is after her for a power she never knew she had—one that could lead to an ancient artifact lost to time.

This book was a fast-paced and thrilling ride. Packed with action and driven by a compelling plot, it kept the momentum going from start to finish. The story was engaging, and the cliffhanger ending definitely left us eager for what’s next!

Ever since Ophelia was a child she’s had ‘episodes’ that tell her when danger or bad things are near. When she travels to Italy to try and discover what happened to her mother decades ago she doesn’t expect to find out she’s a witch and that there is a whole world of witches, vampires and fae. When she meets Luka, a hot vampire she’s immediately drawn to, she’s introduced to this world of magic and she quickly learns that all sides want her for her powers and for her ability to find an ancient artefact that’s been missing for millennia. As her connection to Luka grows, she learns more about her heritage and the danger closing in on them. Can she stop the war that’s looming and protect those she loves or will she have to sacrifice a part of herself to save the world?

Urm ok wow. This was such a rollercoaster and it’s only just beginning! I need answers about so many things, but mostly who the hell is Gabriel really, why does he keep showing up and whose side is he actually on?! Don’t even get me started on Luka because I am a tad in love with that vampire! I can’t say a lot because I don’t want to spoil it but the way this ended, book two is already ready to go!!

Thank you to Carrie Vixenhart and The Author Agency for this ARC!

Eye of Fire was such an unexpected ride. I went in for the magic, mystery, and danger and got all of that and more, but what I wasn’t prepared for was how emotionally intense this book would be. I cried multiple times, and not in a soft, comforting way. This one hits hard in places, and I definitely needed a moment more than once to collect myself.

The world-building was rich, the pacing kept me completely gripped, and the mix of supernatural elements like witches, fae, and vampires was right up my alley. There’s a strong thread of legacy and identity that added real depth to the story.

This is a powerful and emotional start to the trilogy, and I’m both nervous and excited to see where things go next. If you’re looking for a fantasy that brings the drama, the magic, and the heartbreak, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

This book shocked the heck out of me. I am a girl who loves vampires and witches, making it an instant yes for me. and I don't regret it. The magic system is elemental and out FMC is theiat powerful witch in centuries. This book explores loss, love, found family, and features some bad ass women.

Luka is everything you think vamp would be....old, rich, and strong. Ophelia is new to the world of supernaturals, and discovers herself throughout the book. The end had me wishing I read faster so I could see how it turned out, and I loved every minute. I've already started the second and can't wait to spend more time in the world.

I’ll admit it — I usually struggle with fiction. It’s hard for me to stay immersed in a story from beginning to end. Eye of Fire was a rare exception! Almost immediately, I was drawn in by the main character, Ophelia, and curious to see how her story would unfold. The author masterfully layers each storyline, and every chapter brought new questions that kept me coming back for more — more answers, more intrigue, and definitely more of that hot, mysterious romance! I’m hooked, and I can’t wait to dive into book two.

triumphant first book

I am so excited to have discovered this author. This was one of the best books I’ve read in years and it will be hard to wait for the sequel.
Fascinating world building. I especially loved how the author incorporated foreshadowing without giving too much away to the reader. This was an exciting read and I know I’ll be rereading it soon.

Eye of Fire
By Carrie Vixenhart

4⭐ 4 🌶️

Main Characters:
Luka & Ofelia

Stand out lines/quotes:
“Everything in me wants to protect you. To not let you go alone. But you don’t need me. You never have,”

My Thoughts:
Luka and Ofelia are all fire and somehow I just know that he’s not THE one for her. I mean the last few chapters kinda prove my point but this is fantasy… is anyone ever really gone? Mom… This book is high drama and I love it. On to book 2

Not my favorite. This book was easy to read, and a good transition book that doesn’t make you feel too much pressure. Quick and easy, fun fantasy but I found some editing misses, spelling and grammar mistakes. Not a crazy unique story but still a fun read. Still on my quest to discover the genre I like. This was the first full physical book I have read in a long time and it felt great to finish! One New Year’s resolution checked!
