Dog Lover who likes her pastries full of cream and sugar...oh...and I write some ;-)
Aside from being an author, I am also a mom to a beautiful little girl. I tell everyone I named her after my great-grandmother (because that's the mature answer), but really, I named her after my favorite princess - just so happens I got lucky and they had the same name...If I wasn't a writer, I would work on a horse ranch - I'm an animal lover (in addition to dogs, horses are at the top of my list). I wear flip-flops pretty much everywhere I go. I would rather stay awake until 5 am than get up at 5 am (years of bar tending have left their mark), if I can, I'm going to the beach AND I will always be nice to people who bring me chocolate...or coffee...if you bring me both, I'll probably love you forever.
I write the way I live, following the story wherever it may lead, always ready to start the next one. This is clearly reflected in my body of work which to date includes everything from Children's Lit to Thrillers. I happily reside in sunny Florida (for now) with my daughter and three dogs.
I was going to save reading and reviewing this book till I was on my flight. However I read the synopsis and I just couldn't resist that was 4hrs ago.
Brilliant Story Brady aka Jack Cole the hot movie star is making his way to the airport after surprising his girlfriend for the weekend. Or should I say what he hoped to be for the weekend.
As he makes a break for it into an elevator to escape people recognising him he doesn't realise there is a mother and daughter already hiding away in there.
Jack continues his conversation on his mobile and doesn't take notice to anyone else. As others get on the elevator Jack messes around on his phone trying to not let anyone realise who he is. Unfortunately just as someone is about to say "omg your Jack Cole" he hears a women shout "Brady".
Embers is minding her own business heading towards the arrival lounge to wait for her twin sister May. Embers and her daughter Jessa are travelling up the elevator when Jack makes his entrance, Embers is star struck by him and tries to sink into the corner to not have any contact, once she gets out she turns and notices Jacks uncomfortableness and shouts "Brady" gaining his attention to the disappointment of the others who thought he was super star Jack Cole.
From here on out you read about there story how there totally relaxed with one and another Jack follows Embers around meeting her sister and "renting" their holiday home.
You can see Embers fighting her feelings for Brady as she carries on calling him. Her ex Austin getting in the way and causing a lot of drama.
You go through a variety of emotions throughout this book as they fight attraction, fall in love, hurt and longing.
All Embers wants is someone to truly love her and show her in away that she feels isn't because they have done something wrong or have anything to hide.
Would Brady be able to succeed with this?
Or will Embers truly be broken once and for all?
Oh and as for Jessa the little 5yr old is a firecracker. She does not miss a beat with her surroundings, the story between her and Brady is emotional and the author really grabbed at the fact a child's love is unconditional.
Congrats on a beautiful story, I can not express enough to you all to give this book a read. I loved it and found it amazing. The emotion and passion written to express each character was superb. 5***** all the way.
Was given this copy for a true honest review as part of Just One More Romance Book Blog
I really thought I would love this book but it just missed the mark for me. There were some positives, such as Embers relationship with her sister, Mae. I really liked Jessa, she was adorable. Jack/Brady was sweet. There were a lot of things I did not like about this book though. Normally, I am all for a little insta-love but I just couldn't buy it in this book. I didn't feel any connection between Jack/Brady and Ember. Also, Jack being called Brady - I thought that was incredibly silly. I didn't like Embers relationship with her ex and what a pushover she was. I almost DNF this book but thought I would hold out some hope for a little steamy action and instead it was a fade to black encounter. I ended up skimming a lot towards the end and just didn't feel invested enough in these characters to hope for a HEA. While this book was not for me, if you enjoy a non-steamy, semi-unrealistic, insta-love, Hollywood type romance, you may enjoy this book.
Good read. Celebrity love story. Movie star Jack Cole is on the phone when he rushes into an elevator in an airport. He sees a beautiful woman and her daughter but thinks nothing of it. At the next floor he gets out but is assaulted by fans who recognize him.
It is only quick thinking by the woman, Embers, when she calls to him, calling him Brady, soon those approaching think he is just some guy who looks like the famous movie star and not him. Saved. He goes with the mom & daughter to pick up her sister and soon is in the car with them to stay as a guest in their beach house. Really, it is her sister's apartment.
Embers is a great mom, a good sister, owns a food truck business she created with her sister and a closeted artist. She is also damaged by an abusive ex husband and bad choices in men in general. So with the sexy as sin and utter nice guy Jack [Brady] she is at risk of falling and falling hard only enhanced every time he does something sweet for her or her daughter in her eyes.
Things get dicey when the ex husband shows up and makes ultimatums. Not confident in herself and not willing to risk his happiness she puts him first and in doing so shatters them all.
I liked the book but see sawed on Embers and Jack/Brady. It just missed "something" for me to fall in love with it, ya know what i mean?
I'll be the first to admit that I am a huge sucker for the regular chick hooking up with the famous, hot actor. So, this one definitely hit the spot with me.
It's chock full of insta-love, which can be grating to some (and yes, it did annoy me ever so slightly) but the rest of the book made up for it. I loved the snarky humor between Embers and May. Not to mention little 5 year old Jessa.
"But no one could trump Jessa, who waited for the moment the manager came by to see if we had enjoyed our meal, and then stared him square in the eye to calmly say: "In case you were wondering. This is my mommy and this is my daddy and this is my other mommy because my mom can't make her mind, just like Lindsay Lohan. "
I almost choked to death on my nectar of the gods otherwise known as Dr. Pepper.
Overall, this book is just what you would want when you are looking for a fluffy and hilarious beach type read. It's quick (as in I finished it in a few hours), cute and funny as hell.
way to sweet and cheesy. This book started out good but went down hill way too fast. Seriously who falls in love in a couple of days without getting to know each other.
**Copy received from Author in exchange for an honest review**
This book made me feel happy and warm. It is different from what I've read in a long while and I am glad for it because I have a new appreciation for stories such as this. I call him Brady is a very great read. It was filled with laughter, sweet moments, and real situations. I could connect with it and it pretty much sums up a lot of the things that I have been through.
Jack Cole was born in to fame and hasn't known anything but being in the limelight. He had no control over it because of his famous parents. He went along with it because its the only thing he's ever known. He is consumed by the famous life and sees the consequences of what it did to his parents and he did not want that life for himself. In an effort to find more meaning or substance to his life, he travels and worked with children teaching them photography. He learns how to appreciate the beauty of life through the lens of a camera. He returns home for a surprise visit and finds his out that his girlfriend was cheating on him.
Embers is a divorced single mom of one. She is in an elevator when she meets Jack Cole. She overhears his conversation about his girlfriend cheating on him and she sympathizes. In an effort to save Jack from a horde of fans in the elevator she calls him Brady and motions for him to follow her. She helps him avoid the public eye and they end up taking him home after their pretend game. Jack is attracted to Embers and wants to know more about her. He stays with Embers and her family and experiences life in a carefree, loving environment for the first time. They are enjoying each others company and start to have feelings for one another. When everything goes well and they start dating Embers ex-husband comes in to the picture and becomes jealous and threatening their budding romance. Will they be able to stay together or will they part ways? Definitely a one click!
Wow this one was hard to rate. To me, this is the perfect case of a story that has all the right elements - a cast of endearing characters, a fresh spin on an often-done storyline, potential for angst and joy.......
But then fell sort of short. Lots of this story was done in a "tell me" style which explains why it wound up only slightly over 200 pages. Scenes were glossed through instead of having the accompanying dialogue needed so the reader feels part of the story and not just told a story. As a result it was nearly impossible to connect and everything felt rushed. I like a quick read, but there still needs to be development of all the elements of the story. Unfortunately, we just didn't get that here.
Embers is a single mother of a wonderful little girl. She and her twin, May, own a small business, but Embers' love is her art. She expresses herself through her paintings, pouring her life into each work.
Embers meets Jack Cole, a ridiculously famous actor, at the airport - completely by accident. Her quick thinking keeps him from being mobbed by fans and endears her to him. He finds himself intrigued by the quiet, self-effacing woman.
I Call Him Brady is a story of understanding and falling in love. It is a wonderfully uplifting story that leaves the reader feeling that love really can conquer all.
The characters are masterfully presented, well fleshed out and believable. I particularly love May, Embers' crazy, avant garde twin.
The setting in the sunny climes of Florida's east coast, gives this heart warming love story the perfect backdrop. I highly recommend I Call Him Brady for anyone who loves to fall in love.
Look for other books by K.S. Thomas, the are all worth reading!
KS Thomas shoots from the hip and from the heart in this laugh a minute –bawl a minute later romance. I CALL HIM BRADY is in my humble opinion a must read for all romance fans and those who love a good laugh. The author does not disappoint! Jack Cole is a young, sought after Hollywood actor who has a chance to be himself for two weeks without fans seeking him out. Embers Fillios is a single mom who runs a food truck with her wacko twin sister and is the mom of an adorable 5 year old daughter who Jack as Brady falls for after she rescues him from his fanzillas at the airport. Laughs are to be had and both find the love they need in each other where Em sees Jack as a regular guy and Jack shows Em she has more to offer the world than she believes. The road to romance is never smooth and things get in the way but don’t give up on this love story. Just keep reading. I only give one warning: keep the tissues handy. I give this book five seashells.
3.5 stars I definitely loved the twins, and little Jessa.. the hero was interesting but definitely grew on me pretty quickly. I liked that the story of the accidental meeting of two people and the sudden connection they experienced turned into something once in a lifetime. I hated the ex, I hated the power he had over Em, and I still really didn't understand it in the end. Light hearted, with some tears here and there.
I just finished this book. I was dissapointed in the pov. I struggled at the end to finish it. I didnt want to dnf since I was already 80% into the book. Jack/brady pov were so short. I wanted to know more about him but the author focused way to much on Embers. The book was rushed, there were no chemistry between the mmc and fmc i honestly didnt feel the jitters at all. I wanted to love this book but I just couldn't sorry.
This was a lucky find from tik tok. I am so glad I downloaded this book I was not disappointed. The characters have such strong personalities and you get to experience every moment like you are right there and not just reading it. This is a happily ever after love story that has its fair share of problems before you get to the perfect ending.
Disappointed... They break up at 34ish% and dont reconnect until 78% they were apart more than they were together. She pushed everyone away for a dead beat dad who never saw his kids.
The positive: -Really liked the characters, the banter between sisters and their relationship that included Embers' daughter, Jessa. -This was a sweet and entertaining read, and even though the steam level was practically non-existent, I still really enjoyed the story over all. - Embers's ex served the purpose of being a total dick in this book, and was very effective. -there were enough details provided for me to see a lot of the settings and people, but there could have been much better details. Mainly, would have liked to have known if we were dealing with the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico or the Pacific Ocean.
Which leads me to...
The needs work: -Just where in the hell do Embers, May and Jessa live? It seemed like it was stated they were in CA, but then comments like Jack's home being LA which was three thousand miles away ruined that idea. Maybe take a moment and say like they lived on the Gulf side of FL if you don't want to commit to an actual city. The only reason I figured it was likely set in FL is because the author bio says she lives in FL, and there was a mention of it being in the center of spring break hell. It just bothered me it was never outright stated where the majority of the story took place. -There were some misused words (isle was used instead of aisle in the epilogue). -During their time apart, I got completely lost in the story and had no idea what was going on a few times. It seemed like the author got a little lost trying to weave the story together with large pieces of time apparently passing. -I felt the amount of time that passed (which was eventually always clarified) in the story seemed incongruent with how the author depicted how much time passed. It said they were apart for months (insinuated many months), only for it to be two months. Ok, true, the word months does describe two months, but it seemed like so much more time had gone by. Even when Jack and Embers first meet, the first week he spent with them seemed like it had been much longer than a week. -I would have liked to have witnessed more of the relationship building between Jack and Embers. I kind of feel like they happened too quickly without a ton of evidence of how it happened. -I would have liked to have heard how the meeting between Embers and Jessa and Jack's parents (and Moira) went. [SPOILERS] -It mentioned both May and Embers waddled to the alter, were we to infer they were both pregnant? -Did Jack ever adopt Jessa? Would have loved to have heard that piece fully resolved and be the ultimate outcome, especially after Austin's revelation at their (embers' and Austin's) last meeting. -The part where Embers decides to get Jack back, she had no way to reach him due to the switching of phones? But wouldn't May's phone have Jack's number? Nothing mentioned Embers deleting it from May's phone once they switched phones. Or even the gallery lady? why not contact that chick since she mentioned having spoken to Jack when Embers returned the gallery's message. Yeah, the gesture she made was sweet, but not the only way to reach him, so it lost points. -The stuff involving the food truck. With an entire show devoted to food trucks on food network, plus other shows on that network that feature people who run food trucks, the sisters did not spend near enough time prepping theirs to be believable. These people have to spend quite a few hours before they open their trucks buying then prepping food. What little details we got in the books about this had the sister kind of hopping in their truck, going to their normal location and just opening shop. Make this a bit more believable, please.
Overall this was a sweet and often funny story, but the delivery needs improvement for a more well rounded and complete story.
I loved this sweet quick read. I'm a sucker for a regular girl falling in love with a celebrity. This book felt like a sweet hallmark movie in all the best ways. It made me smile and was a sweet read. I loved it.
Judging a Book by it's Cover: Bare-chested model with tattoos is the main focus, but difficult to see in the light-drenched effect. The synopsis is what drew me in, although that was about as clear as the cover.
Looking Deeper: Alternating POVs, not defined - leaves the reader backtracking a few sentences or more each time once it's realized that the POV has changed. Jack, aka Brady thanks to Embers' quick thinking, is spontaneously taking some time off and away from his schedule - prompted by meeting Embers. She's fantasized about Jack for years and does not hesitate from saving him from an awkward position at the airport, thankful that her daughter, Jessa, doesn't blow it. Enter in a fun and colorful secondary cast and you've got an entertaining read. The chemistry between Brady and Embers is instant yet progresses gradually. The dialogue is good, mostly natural feeling. The plot is unique in that the characters have a divided plot line for a while. There were conflicts, some handled well and some not. All become resolved by the end. Predictability was not an issue. The conclusion is very good. All loose ends are tied up, but I was wondering what happened to the cat. Overall, it's a unique plot with an entertaining cast. I only wish that the alternating POVs were more clearly defined.
I've gotten very jaded by the teen angst, 50 Shades wannabees, and some books that made me want to rinse my brain with mental mouthwash. One of the romance groups I belong to on Facebook mentioned "I Call Him Brady" by K.S. Thomas, and I bit. (Yes, Brady is my middle name, so that was partly the reason. It also didn't hurt that Thomas was running an Amazon special that made it too tempting to pass up.)
What to say about this HEA? First, I loved Ember and May, as well as Jessa, Ember's daughter. I was afraid Jack Cole, aka Brady, would be a rehash of the hero from "The Unknown Redhead", but my fears were for naught. Jack/Brady is a much more interesting, human character, although I wish he'd been fleshed out a little more. No pun intended.
This book was realistic about disfunction between a jerk of an ex-husband and his former wife, the irresponsibility of some parents, and the selfishness sometimes involved.
Ember and May are strong women, and their relationship is supportive, loving, funny, and most of all realistic. Every woman needs a sister like May!
For readers put off by heavy duty sex scenes, "I Call Him Brady" is not that kind of book. No graphic sex scenes in my opinion. Others turned off by the use of F bombs will have some problems with the language, although it's sprinkled through and not used liberally.
I look forward to reading more of K.S. Thomas' books in the future.
Embers is a hard working single mom of an adorable little girl. Her ex is a manipulative asshole who belittles her at every turn. He only views his daughter as a pawn. Jack Cole is rich, successful and one of the hottest men alive. Out the outside he is perfect but on the inside he is a mess.A chance meeting between Embers and Jack is all it takes. He is drawn to her ans she sees someone else in him...Brady...
What I Liked It was sweet, sappy and cute as hell. What little girl doesn't imagine a scenario like the author created in book this? Jack/Brady is amazing, He instantly adores the two people Embers loves more than anything. Brady woos her from the get go in the sweetest ways. Embers interactions with just about everyone she hold dear, are great. She even handles her ex a lot nicer then I would have. I love Jessa, she is just too much!!
What I Didn't Like The ex, but you had to dislike him. The story did verge on being a little too sweet. They fell fast but not as fast as someone books I have read.
Bottom Line Summer may be over but this is a great little beach read. The author and the story are quirky - in a good way. There is some mental abuse but its just lightly touch on, thus making it a pretty easy light read.
Absolutely delightful! I just loved this story and didn't want to put it down.
Wow! When Jack Cole, movie star gets in the elevator at the airport where Embers is with her young daughter Jessa, a chain of events begin! After Embers 'rescues' Jack from being hassled by star struck women by pretending he is someone called Brady, Jack goes with Embers and Jessa to meet May, Ember's twin sister and somehow ends up renting rooms with them!
We see how Embers fights falling in love with Brady (her name for Jack) after being badly hurt. We see how surprised Brady is when he finds he has feelings he didn't know about for Embers.
This is a beautiful love story between two vulnerable people (yes, despite being rich and famous Jack is vulnerable too) but livened up by some wacky humour between the twins, and made so touching by the absolutely adorable Jessa.
All seems as if it might be going in the right direction until the nasty ex husband Austin starts to make trouble.
Will he succeed? Is it all over between Brady and Embers?
I couldn't turn the pages quick enough at this point!
As I said at the beginning - an absolutely delightful story. I definitely recommend it
This was a cute book. Embers and Jack Cole's lives are completely in different worlds. Jack Cole is an A-list actor with Hollywood royalty as parents. Embers is a mother who will do anything to make a happy childhood for her daughter. The two meet in an elevator where Ember tries to help him out and helps him pretend to be someone else so he doesn't get attacked by the fans.
Embers and her twin sister run a food truck and live on the beach. Embers has black and violet hair and her twin sister May has a pink mohawk. She was married to her daughters father but he cheated on her repeatedly and did his best to manipulate her. He still tries to control her and make her feel bad for herself.
Jack grew up in Hollywood and he knows how fake that life can be. His parents have always been together but they each have affairs. He's done many things to experience something real but doesn't really find it until he meets Embers. She's as real as they get. There is something so amazing about her to make him want to hang out with her and experience things.
Wow - was this ever an incredible read that made you laugh out loud so many times and tear up in other places.
Jack Cole was a model with famous parents who was still trying to find himself out in the world. He was tired of being recognized every where, especially in airports.
Embers is at the airport with her 5 year old daughter Jessa when a chance encounter with Jack leads to a developing friendship with an uncertain future.
Will the two be able to put aside their completely different lives and find a common ground or will their two different lifestyles tear them apart, especially with Embers past relationship.
The characters in this book are all so incredibly written and the humour is so strong through the whole book. I love how Embers has gotten her life back on track and is so afraid of it derailing. I love the easy going nature of Jack and how he would truly do absolutely anything for Embers, no matter what it costs him, even if it costs him the one true thing he wants, her.
Hmm...maybe closer to a 3.5, just because a few times I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. For those who want a movie star book without the explicit sex THIS is your book. I did find it kinda odd that the author had no problem dropping the f-bomb but all the sex happened off page. I would think those offended by sex would be equally offended by the word "f..k" but since I'm not offended by either I could be wrong. My only real complaint is that I thought Austin's storyline seemed unfinished but since I don't want to give spoilers I can't get specific. It just seemed like it was left a little up in the air considering how the book concluded. And I really would have liked to have seen Embers meet Jack/Brady's family and how those introductions worked out.
I had the opportunity to meet Karina at the IndieBookfest 2014 in Orlando, FL and purchased this book at that time. Ms. Thomas was very kind and several books that looked great. The story of a single mother meeting a TV/movie star by chance and spending some time with him was my idea of a way to escape for a few hours.
I really enjoyed this story and how Karina kept me interested through out the entire story. The story stayed very believable and I really enjoyed getting to know Jack/Brady along with Embers. I really liked the "gestures" that the characters did for each other and I like how each of them brought out the BEST in each other.
I look forward to reading more from K.S. Thomas...
I absolutely loved this book, this is one of those reads that has to be read in one go.
This book really does have it all, a lovely unexpected romance coupled with some great humour and twists along the way.
I had this sat on my kindle for sometime and had completely forgotten what this book was about - I was so pleasantly surprised. I will most definitely be looking out for more to red from K S Thomas. A big thumbs up from me - well worth a 'one-click' !
Thomas always does a great job writing a stellar book with solid relationships, not just between the hero and heroine, but also all support characters. I love that Embers was strong and independent, Jessa was adorable, and Jack/Brady-mmm, yes please! Embers needed just one thing from a man-a gesture and Jack/Brady definitely went above and beyond with his gestures. Now, if only I could get some of that food from their food truck...
I really enjoyed this book!! I stumbled upon this book because one of the blogs I follow had it posted and I read the synopsis. I had to have it. I am so glad I one clicked!! This book was just what I needed!! I think it was great!! While I do think certain parts could have been expanded upon further, overall it was great!!
3 1/2 stars...I mostly liked this book a lot, but I did feel that there wasn't a whole lot of interaction between Embers and Luke before they fell in love. A little something was missing for me, but I did like the snarky banter between May and Embers. I found myself laughing out loud several times. It was a cute read!
