The European Texans is part of a five-volume set from the Institute of Texan Cultures. Dr. Allan O. Kownslar was an American academic and historian. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas), then earned a doctorate in the same field at Carnegie-Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). He joined the Trinity faculty in 1971, and quickly became a nationally recognized expert on social studies curriculum development. He also wrote and/or edited several successful history textbooks. Professor Kownslar retired from active teaching in 2015, and spent his final years as Professor Emeritus of History at Trinity University.
During the early to late 1800s many Europeans immigrated to Texas. Many came to avoid the wars of Europe and a chance to better their lives. Most of the European countries are represented in this work with numerical tables and descriptions of their struggles. Their legacy is maintained at the Institute of Texas Culture in San Antonio.
