For their class cultural fair, Andy wants to study the country of Egypt, but Dolores, who insists she is the queen of Egypt, wants to study that as well. Dolores struts all of her Egyptian knowledge and tries to get Andy to work with her on the project, but when she makes his lose a baseball game, he wants nothing to do with her. Once she helps him and decides to pick another country, Andy changes his mind and realizes they could make a great team if they worked on Egypt together.

I actually enjoyed this book very much. It was definitely more of what I would call a level 4, as there was a lot more text, but the pictures were still there to support the story. It felt much more like a chapter book and was the perfect transitional book in terms of words and size. Andy Shane was slightly educational on the topic of African countries, taught a good lesson, and had a funny and interesting story line.

Andy Shane wouldn't know a good thing if it hit him upside the head with a corncob.

This is a fun story about compromise and cooperation in the Andy Shane series by Jennifer Richard Jacobson. The narrative is short and there are a lot of illustrations, so it's a good book for children who are starting to read chapter books.

I just happened to pick this one up while perusing the shelves at the library while our girls were attending a program. It was a fun, fast read and includes some interesting details about a few countries in Africa (especially Egypt).

This early reader chapter book offers a humorous story about friendship, passion, and school projects! We enjoyed reading this book. Andy and Delores are typical kids, without being caricatures or stereotypes. Although This is part of the Andy Shane series, this was our first title and we didn't feel "lost."

Wonderful beginning chapter book series! Both Andy and Dolores are loveable characters, special and unique in their very own way. I loved that they can find friendship and agreement despite their very different personalities. This thin little volume shares a beautiful message about accepting others the way they are, focusing on their strengths rather than the things we might find annoying. While simple in words and pictures, the characters show growth and provide the reader with things to ponder about.

RL 570. Cute story about a boy that wants to do his country report on Egypt after receiving a scarab beetle necklace from his grandma. But a classmate wants to do a report on Egypt, too, and already has lots of ideas. What will he do?

Cute, short book-- probably about the same level as Horrible Harry or Nate the Great, only better!

Fighting again between Dolores and Andy. She's the bossy kindergartener and Andy is more of the quiet but smart one. But in the end, Dolores comes around and is a friend to Andy.
