The Enchanted Alehouse gives you everything a cosy fantasy should - found family, mundane magic, and a talking ladybug. Throw in some good food, some low stakes and the fuzzy feeling you get when everybody gets what they want, even if they didn't know they wanted it.
Before Anya dies, she turns her deadly curse into a blessing by making the alehouse into an enchanted place where worries seem to fly away and problems seem to fix themselves.
Ettie - a failed witch, Sticks - an ogre on the run from the sheriff, and Dayne - a pixie whose dad is a gangster, all find themselves at the alehouse, and suddenly their bad days all seem to get better.
The Enchanted Alehouse, where everyone is welcome - even ogres.
Gemma Perfect loves to write. She’s been doing it since she was nine. After a few false starts – self publishing children’s books, and being traditionally published with her romance novella, she has finally found her feet writing young adult historical fantasy books. She is currently writing The Cursed Princess, set five years after The Kingmaker Trilogy finishes, following the adventures of Everleigh's sister, Addyson.
Gemma lives in Wales with her husband Craig and their three boys, Sam, Corey and Oliver. She is happiest when writing, day dreaming and eating smelly blue cheese.
This book is pure cozy fantasy comfort. I picked it up while craving something gentle, heart-warming, and safe. And it was exactly that.
The Enchanted Alehouse is meant to make you feel good. It carries that quiet reassurance that there is kindness in people, and that even after the worst days, things can still find their way back to okay.
I adored the characters and flew through the pages. The story is predictable, yes, but in A good way. Like returning to a familiar place and being okay to see where things are going.
If you ever need a book to wrap you in a blanket and hand you a warm drink… this one does exactly that. 🧸✨
A big thank you to Gemma Perfect for sending this to me! My review is honest for this ARC
✅cozy fantasy ✅ magical creatures ✅found family ✅foodies 🤣 (the custard tap had me hysterical) ✅curses
I wholeheartedly adore this book. With a rotten curse, Anya turns it into a positive thing to benefit others, especially our MCs. My favorite of which was Sticks who reminds me of Hagrid should he have had a sweet tooth and been an ultimate foodie! A witch, a pixie and an ogre what an unlikely pair! Throw in some royalty, a goblin, mayhem inducing foxes, a gangster pixie, a true love revealing penguin, and the root of the story, the Enchanted Alehouse itself! The happy endings were abundant and this was such a breakup from my usual psychological thriller or intense action fantasy.

I absolutely loved this book. Cute, cosy and all round delicious. Seriously, the food described in this book made me hungry. And I love custard doughnuts.
A cursed witch goes back to her favourite place, an alehouse that was a source of happiness and comfort for her. Before she dies, she turns it into an enchanted alehouse so that other can also experience the same feelings but also get help to turn their lives around.
Meet Ettie, a failed witch turned out from the only place she ever knew for years, Sticks, an ogre accused of something he didn't do and Dayne, a pixie with a gangster dad. Three total strangers, bought together to the alehouse so they can turn the absolutely worst day of their lives, in to their happily ever after. They also meet and help a kitchen goblin called Graily find her dream.
Oh and there is a sassy ladybug called Smudge that is much larger than your average little ladybug. I think we all have a bit of Smudge in all of us.
I've read all of Gemma's books and followed her over the years since I came across The Kingmaker series. I have not been disappointed at all in any of her books and really enjoyed reading them.
Highly recommend you check out this book and others in Gemma's repertoire.
Oh and Gemma? Can we have more alehouse stories in the future? Pretty please?
The Enchanted Alehouse was 5/5 stars!!! What a lovely story!!! If you love cosy fantasies this book is for you! In Gemma Perfect’s , The Enchanted Alehouse, you’ll fall in love with the different characters that you meet (some more than others, LOL). The story is truly magical! Thelma story follows the lives of 4 different characters, each with their own unique stories and challenges. They eventually find themselves all meeting at this enchanted alehouse clueless to the journey that awaits. Despite all of the challenges they face, they all come out better and united at the end of it all. Gemma Perfect truly has a way of creating magic in her stories. I hope to read another book! This was one of my favorite reads and I hope it’ll be yours too!
Delve into a fantasy world of magical creatures, witches, ogres and many more. This is a perfect light read, for anyone who enjoys stories like Harry Potter. The characters are very likeable and friendly, and the storyline was easy to follow.
The chapters are short, so it is ideal for anyone looking to get back into reading or a young adult reader looking to find a nice introduction into the fantasy book genre. Highly recommend.
I absolutely loved this book so so much i flew tho it in a couple of days had to physically stope myself deom.reading at about half 11.lasr night it's like Enid Blyton books on steroids but 100% better cant reccomend it enough .
“There are squashy chairs and snuggly sofas, huge shelves full of books and knickknacks. It’s a room she could spend hours in—but the feather dancing in front of her face draws her attention to a chair near the fire.”
When a cursed witch dies in an alehouse, her curse transforms into something unexpected: a protection for the house itself. Before passing on, she chooses five very different individuals to become the alehouse’s caretakers. Their only shared trait is that each of them has experienced an especially terrible day when they are chosen.
The writing is straightforward and unfussy, making the story incredibly easy to sink into. The book is told in first-person POV from all five caretakers—Ellie, Sticks, Dayne, Graily, and Briella—each voice distinct and heartfelt. The core themes center on found family, kindness, and quiet healing, creating a true slice-of-life cozy fantasy experience.
The story leans into comforting tropes like mundane magic, low stakes, a talking ladybug, and found family, all wrapped in cottagecore charm. Rather than epic battles, the conflicts are deeply personal: helping Graily escape the castle, proving Sticks’ innocence, supporting Dayne through her struggles, and giving Briella the help she needs.
What stayed with me most were the characters. They truly brought this story to life, and I won’t soon forget them. Reading this book felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket—gentle, comforting, and deeply satisfying.
I would absolutely recommend this book to fans of cozy fantasy, especially readers who enjoy works by T. L. Stone or Sarah Beth Durst. If you’re looking for a kind, healing story with found family at its heart, this one is a perfect fit.
The cosiest of reads, just a lovely world to be immersed in and enjoy the mundane magic and every day life of the quirky characters. The book is a great kick off to the rest of the series and I cannot wait for what comes next.🍄❤️
