I love this. Taking out the special pages from The Story for Children and enlarging and elaborating on them for the Christmas season.
As long as I can remember, to me, Max Lucado has been a trusted name and source in Bible study and devotional resources. When I stumbled across The Story for Little Ones I could not be more pleased. Little Ones encompasses ages 2-5 while The Story for Children: A Storybook Bible I believe is meant for ages 4-8. This is part of a large campaign that includes all ages. The Story for Children (early elementary), The Story for Kids (later elementary), The Story Teen Edition, God’s Story Youth Edition, and then the adult books in The Story, God’s Story Your Story, and a few more. I think from what I have seen (my copy of The Story for Little Ones, God’s Story Your Story (reviewed) and a few digital ARCs of the other youngest versions) I’m excited. I’m really excited that everyone and every age can be touched. That and I adore Max Lucado.
Knowing that I love The Story for Little Ones I was super eager to experience The Story for Children. Little Ones has simple gorgeous illusrations of more-than stick figure quality while The Story for Children are more life-like and complex illustrations, perfect for stepping it up a notch for the reader and their imagination. When I got my hands on the Deluxe Edition I did not know what to expect. I had seen some of the illustrations online, but my Little Ones is a big (thin) book 8.8x11" and this The Story for Children in my hands is 6.6x8.1". It is the same size as The Jesus Storybook Bible, The Sweetest Story Bible and The Rhyme Bible Storybook. The Deluxe Edition is in an attractive box sleeve slipcover with illustrations on it. It includes the Bible book and a sleeve with three audio CDs that contain the entire book narrated by Max Lucado. Two CDs for the Old Testament and one CD for the New Testament.
This is beautiful and a treasure to pour over. We love The Story for Little Ones so much I'm going to have to look into the curriculum for kids when we get there to keep the learning going. With these fresh, vibrant, and extremely detailed illustrations.
The Christmas Story for Children is a great treasure for those already familiar with The Story for Children as well as a great introductory gift for any family as well!
The illustrations of Fausto Bianchi are stunning. So full of color and life, the people are so impressive as are the inanimate objects. I love this deluxe edition and I think I find we enjoy the words and illustrations so much it would be worth it to also have the good picture book size to be able to share with the family. I'm truly amazed to see how different this is from the Little Ones but just as incredible all around.

What a beautiful cover - it made me want to read this new book. I think this telling of the Christmas story is unique. What makes it different is that the story does not end with the birth of Jesus. This book continues on after Jesus’ birth and tells the story of his entire life in a very simple and short way.
The authors have taken time to put together another excellent book to help us all remember the true meaning of the season. I am always so excited to see a new book about the biggest love story of all.
The only item that I didn't love was the artist’s portrayal of angels. The angel that appears to Mary in this book really looks like a woman. Yet we know that the angel Gabriel was definitely not a woman. The second time you see an angel in the story is when they appear to the shepherds. Once again it looks like a woman, and yet the clothing she is wearing shows a huge part of HER chest. This is a little disconcerting to me. A little frustrating too, for with such a beautiful story and such amazing art I am not buying this for anyone. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book goes beyond just telling about the birth of Jesus Christ and the celebration of Christmas. It goes on to tell how Jesus led his life after birth; 30 years living with his family, baptism by John the Baptist, and the start of Jesus and His miracles. The suggested age range for this book is 4-8. I would also agree with this age range, especially since the illustrations seem for an older group of children. However, this story can be read to any age of child as a traditional Christmas and Jesus story.
The Christmas Story for Children is written in a way which is easy to understand for the suggested age groups, ages 4-8. It may be a little more difficult for younger ages to understand the words and context of the story. The illustrations for the story are appropriate for the suggested age groups, ages 4-8. Although, the illustrations may not be ideal for a younger age range. A description of the events, which are in the Bible, are portrayed throughout the story accurately.
I enjoyed how the story extended beyond Jesus’ birth in the stable. Most Christmas stories I have read end after the birth, but this one continues on to tell more of what happened. It enables the reader to have a better idea of who is Jesus.
I recommend The Christmas Story for Children for all!

My Review:
There is nothing more touching in the entire world, whether it's during the holidays or not as the life of our Saviour. I love reading these type of books whether they are a children's version or not. It is just touching and heart-warming and to be reminded of what Jesus has done for all mankind is an awesome feeling better than anything else we could ever feel.
The various authors that worked on this retelling of the very famous story that resounds so loudly at Christmas time and all days of the year but together the story we all know and love and added a little bit of what they may have thought some of the conversations were like among the different characters. It was a delightful story and I loved reading it to my youngest.
The illustrations by Fausto Bianchi, were so beautiful. They look like paintings and they were so lifelike. This story begins shortly before His birth and goes on to tell about different parts of His ministry. A man sent to save mankind from destruction! He was no ordinary baby!

The angel told Mary she had been chosen to be the mother of a special baby and they were to name him Jesus. She was also told when he was older he would save the world because he was the Son of God.
Max Lucado brings the event of Jesus’ birth to life, using simple language that is easy for younger children to understand. This book goes beyond Jesus’ birth and includes his Baptism by his cousin John the Baptist. It tells how on that day Jesus spectacular life began and He became a prophet, healer, preacher, friend and more importantly the Messiah.
This is a soft shiny cover book that will delight your child. I was very impressed with the story beginning with the Angel’s appearance to Mary and going beyond the babe in the manger.

I found this book very interesting, in the fact that it took you from the birth into Jesus' ministry. There was a bit of the story I didn't really grasp, because it was taking some liberty with the story as accounted Biblically. The illustrations are beautiful and a child will enjoy looking at them very much. Overall this book was a nice addition to the holiday reading season, I would just make sure my child knew that it is a fictional depiction of the true story of Christmas.
