Winter Black #24

Winter's Snare: Winter Black Season Two

Rate this book
Love is the beginning of everything. And the end.

Haunted by dreams of the boy whose life she shattered and burdened by dark family secrets she's only just begun to understand, Private Investigator Winter Black is trying to keep her life from falling apart. With her husband on a yearlong break from the FBI, the bills are piling up, and Winter has no choice but to take on even the most mundane cases. Serving a summons should be easy.

Until the man she served is found dead the next day. His wife too.

The man, a local appliance store owner, faced financial ruin pending the legal case, leading authorities to suspect a murder-suicide. Winter doesn’t buy that he killed himself or his wife. In fact, she’d seen the anticipation in his eyes as they packed for a vacation together—hardly the behavior of a man about to end it all. When the employee behind the lawsuit goes missing, Winter is convinced.

Someone murdered the couple. But who?

As she digs deeper, the bodies start to pile up. People connected to the case are being picked off one by one, and Winter can’t shake the feeling that she’s getting closer to something dangerous—something that wants to stay hidden. Someone’s playing a twisted game, and Winter’s caught right in the middle.

With a target on her back.

The mystery and suspense continue with Winter’s Snare, the heart-stopping sixth book in the Winter Black Season Two series. It’s a reminder that love endures all things. Except murder.

More of the same.

These really aren't mystery books so much as they are crime books. The main character, as well as the secondary characters, are stuck in a rut. They are oh so predictable in their actions. The only thing that changes is the crime and criminals.

The backstory of what happened to Winter and her family when she was young continues to play out ad nauseam in the background. I am taking a break from the series.

‘Everything’s bigger—and deadlier—in Texas...
Finally free from the claustrophobic worry caused by her psychotic baby brother’s bloodthirsty reign, former Special Agent Winter Black—newly Mrs. Winter Black-Dalton—is ready for a fresh start in Austin, Texas. With her husband and former partner, Noah Dalton, at her side, she’s hoping to shed the skin of her past and return to hunting down criminals, but in a very different way...’

Winter's Snare is Book #24 in the Winter Black Series (Winter Black: Season Two Book #6) by Mary Stone. These books follow Special Agent Winter Black, whose life was shattered when her parents were murdered, and her little brother was believed to have been killed by a serial killer known as The Preacher. Years later, she’s not only chasing down dangerous criminals but also searching for the truth about her brother - a thread that runs through the entire series.
Here, you get the adrenaline rush of intense investigations - serial killers, twisted motives, and plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments - but also the personal side of Winter’s life. She’s tough and determined, but she’s also human, dealing with grief, trust issues, and complicated relationships.
Mary Stone’s writing is easy to sink into. The chapters are short and snappy, which made it really hard to put the books down. Each installment has its own case to solve, but there’s always that bigger mystery in the background, so you’ll probably want to read them in consecutive order to get the full picture and impact.
If you like shows like Criminal Minds or enjoy crime series with a mix of action as well as character depth, then this series is a solid choice.
Engaging, bingeable, and packed with both thrills and heart.
Happy Reading…

WINTER’S SNARE is the sixth installment in Season 2 of the Winter Black Mystery Series by Mary Stone. The development of the main characters and depth of depravity in the criminals is just as good/chilling as ever and continues to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, beginning to end.

Winter is between clients and Noah is starting a sabbatical from the FBI so they are planning a real vacation. Like they say "The best-laid plans of mice and men, often go awry".  Noah is called back in for one last job before his sabbatical officially starts. Winter did a simple Summons delivery to a man and woman who were happiy packing for their own vacation.  The next day the man and wife are found dead. Winter starts wondering about the why's and asks a few questions. Soon she's deep in a murder and missing person(s) case. As her personal investigation moves forward, she may end up interviewing some dangerous suspects. This could be an issue as she has no back up and could find herself in a deadly situation.

If you are not intimidated by detailed descriptions of torture, killing, and harassments, and enjoy drama, fear, and suspense, Mary Stone is your author, or should be.

I did receive a copy from the author and the above is my honest review.

I love Winter Black! She is a tough ex-FBI agent turned PI. She has a nose for finding the truth and an extra sense that leads her in the right direction and sometimes straight into trouble. This book is another great entry in the Winter Black series. There are twists and turns and an a few rabbit holes that you can slip down. Keep your eye on Winter and she will ferret out the killer and the reasons. She is once again in the crosshairs of a psychopath. And the ending will really keep you guessing about the next book. Great read!

Mary Stone continues to amaze this reader with her brilliant writing talent! Winter’s Snare has everything a reader wants in a murder mystery! There is never ending suspense, twists and turns, lots of nail biting action and a HUGE cliffhanger! Winter Black has always been my favorite Mary Stone character. Now that she is out as FBI, married to Noah Dalton, living in Austin TX and a PI she continues to be one of the best characters this author has created. This book is engrossing and will keep you reading for hours!

While Noah is sent out on a case, Winter is wrapped up in cases and tied up in knots at what is slowly showing itself to her.
I have loved reading Mary Stone's books, no matter who she writes with her work is stunning and addictive. Mary does not disappoint in keeping you hanging in her books. The intrigue of Winter always pulls me in and doesn't let me put the book down. I like Winter, her husband Noah and anything she does.
Thanks to Mary for the books she has ready to us addicted to her books.

Motive was too hard to follow

I like the series but found it very hard to follow how the characters linked together. The constant struggle with Winter being independent and not calling the police for backup was tiring. Winter getting mad at any suggestion of getting help is boring. Winter has become the know it all that she hates in others. It seems the writer knows this and even included this in Winter's musings. However, Winter's constant need to be independent is boring to read and takes away from developing the other characters in the book.

I read all of Winter's books, including the Autumn books. During the first 10, I had difficulty continuing reading due to the constant presence of Winter's brother. But when he was finally arrested, I thought this storyline was over. But not only does it seem like it's not over, they also seem to want to resurrect the storyline of Timoty. Regarding the latter, maybe Winter left it behind at the end of the book (which would be great), but in relation to Justin, should be already the case, right? I wish he would be long gone. I hope the authors do not pursue this goal.

A fantastic series

Winter Black always seems to get herself involved in the craziest investigations, but it's usually at the request of a client hiring her services as a Private Investigator. However, this story is a bit different. When she's involved very briefly with someone, it pulls her into an intense, complex, and suspenseful investigation that may have dire consequences for her and those she cares about.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

This is the sixth book in the Winter Black Season Two series by Mary Stone and what a great book it is.

After Winter serves a subpoena on a man, both he and his wife are found dead. It appears to be a murder-suicide but Winter doesn't think so. More murders follow and Winter again finds herself in trouble.

The book is full of mystery and there is a real cliff hanger at the end of the book.

As Noah is on one last case before his year long sabbatical, Winter is serving a simple summons. This, unfortunately seems to start the ball rolling on murder, drugs and a high profile pyramid scheme. With Detective Davenport trying his best to persuade her from investigating Winter plunges in. Fast paced & electrifying.

What a wild ride this one is. Winter is serving papers to supplement her PI income. She then hears that a local business man and his wife have been found dead, it’s the man she served the day before. When the police decide it’s likely murder suicide Winter doesn’t agree and tbe search for what really happened begins.

Wow Winter really got in trouble this time. I was glad to see her special gift returning to her and could not stop reading. It’s a very tense and twisty read. Mary as an author is able and willing to kill anybody she decides wow, ouch! The emotional killer?! Mistakes and the cliffhanger at the end! I love Winter and Mary is at her best again. Bravo

Thrilling

I'm always amazed at the excellent writing and storyline of Mary Stone's books. This book had so many twists and turns I couldn't hardly put it down had to see what happened next. There was a turn in the book with main characters that really was pleasing and should enhance future books in this series. Can't wait.

OMG!!!!!!! Winter has a nack for getting into major trouble. I can't believe that she got herself out of this trouble this time. She did get shot with buckshot. It is amazing how many bodies drop in this one and I can't wait to read the next book.

Even after so many books in this series, the plots are fresh and build on the prior books. The characters are an integral part of the story and their interactions with each other make the plot all the more interesting. The books moves at a rapid pace and does tie up many loose ends but ends with a thread to be continued in the next book.

Here, Winter becomes entangled in a case that tightens steadily around her, and I really enjoyed the mounting tension. The investigation unfolded at a good pace, and her experience as a private investigator clearly shows in how she navigates obstacles. A solid, engaging read that continues to showcase her growth and independence.

Winter’s post-FBI life rolls on

A kidnapping, an apparent murder-suicide, another death, with Timothy’s fate still a worry in Winter’s nightmares-life is not simple and straightforward.

The Story Continues

It was good to read another Winter book. The endings are strong, which makes the reader continue. The sad thing about this book was watching a man be manipulated for love just to make money.
