The Briar's Veil

Rate this book
Step into Briar Vale, where ambition masks corruption, and the promise of a fresh start conceals dark and dangerous secrets.

In the seemingly perfect neighborhood of Briar Vale, the Miller family's new home was meant to be their dream come true—a symbol of success and a gateway to a brighter future. But behind the gleaming façades and manicured lawns, something far more sinister waits. What begins as small, eerie occurrences soon spirals into a nightmare of unsettling events, threatening to unravel both the family's sanity and their safety.

Emma Miller senses something is deeply wrong in Briar Vale. The neighbors are acting strangely, shadows lurk where they shouldn't, and her husband John's obsession with their new home grows more unsettling by the day. As tensions rise and the strange phenomena intensify, the Millers find themselves entangled in a web of secrets tied to greed and a community's silent complicity.

Beneath the surface of this picture-perfect community, a restless force is awakening—determined to reclaim what was unjustly taken.

In "The Briar's Veil," Jason M. Bramble delivers a gripping psychological and supernatural thriller that reimagines the haunted house genre with a modern, relevant twist. Exploring themes of capitalism, environmental trespass, and the high cost of ambition, this novel will keep you questioning the true price of paradise.

Enter Briar Vale—if you dare.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and was excited to have the chance to read a new horror author. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to my expectations.

It centers around a family of five moving into a new housing development looking for a fresh start. You can tell from the book's synopsis that it won't go well, but by the first few pages of only the second chapter, the family is already falling apart. No slow burn, no gradual buildup of tensions, just straight to "dread" and "the weight of shadows pressing against her." It's hard to feel a sense of horror when you're constantly being told you should feel it.

Interesting story, but unnecessarily verbose.

Interesting spin on haunted house story

As someone who doesn’t usually enjoy the horror genre, The Briar’s Veil by Jason Bramble was a thrilling exception. This novel offers a fresh and deeply unsettling twist on supernatural horror, grounded in an eerie but plausible concept: the consequences of disturbing nature’s balance. Despite my usual aversion to the genre, I found myself completely engrossed, unable to put the book down.

What makes Briar’s Vale so effective is the author’s ability to create a gradual, creeping tension. The horror builds slowly, starting with small, almost imperceptible changes in the environment and escalating into full-blown terror.

This story didn't take long to ramp up and get me hooked. Very clever writing when describing the horror components. Transporting the fear the subjects were experiencing in a realistic and believable manner so the reader could totally identify. Excellent character portrayals of the main characters, particularly the teenagers. I really enjoyed my time as a voyeur of the trials and tribulations of this family. I will be looking for another of Jason's creations!

Great story of spirits, revenge and strength in family. Visit Briar's Veil, a growing community being rebuilt from a previous development.
A quiet, close environment, ripe with an underlying current of something sinister.
This page turner is a quick read, great for a day at the beach. Or any nice place will do.
