Ron Marz does an admirable job of crafting two independent, but connected, stories featuring the bounty hunters of Attack of the Clones. In these adventures, Jango Fett and Zam Wesel are allowed to both be ruthless and bad-ass, but also the opportunity to show a little bit of the hero they have within. Seeing Jango as a father and not just a deadly killer gives a little depth to the character and Zam was practically non-existent is Episode II, so seeing her here doing more than just dying is kinda cool.
The real treat of these stories, though, is the art. I never thought I would see Tom Fowler or Ted Naifeh doing this kind of work, but it works, and I loved it. Fowler's stuff, especially. For anyone who doesn't know, Fowler is the brilliant artist behind Mysterious the Unfathomable and Ted Naifeh is the inimitable creator of Courtney Crumrin and Polly and the Pirates. These guys are indie gold, and while I'd never want to see them go too 'mainstream', seeing them on a Star Wars title was a rare treat and shows that Dark Horse is fearless (and ingenious) in assigning talent.
A well-deserved four stars.
