The Unicorn Chronicles #4.5

After the Third Kiss

Rate this book
There is an old tale of a maiden turned to a dragon, who can only be restored to human form by three kisses from her brother. The question is, what happens next? Once you've been a dragon, tasted blood and ridden the wind on leathery wings, can you ever really go back to being a mere human? That's the question that May Margret must answer, after the third kiss . . .

This is the backstory of the dragon Graumag, who appears in THE LAST HUNT, volume 4 of "The Unicorn Chronicles." Some of this is retold in that book, however this is the much more detailed and complete version of her story of her life before she came to Luster.

A Princess is turned into a dragon by her stepmother and the only way to be turned back is for her brother to kiss her 3 times. He does but this scars his lips. The confront the stepmother who turns into a toad and escapes. The prince takes over the kingdom but finds he is unable to father children so he tries to marry off his sister, the princess. She is missing her dragon side and is unsure of herself.

Self-discovery, fantasy kingdoms...this story was nicely done. The princess was a bit frustrating in her though process at times but still good.

A 33 page short story about the dragon Graumag’s backstory as a human. She was cursed to become a dragon, but broke the curse with the help of her brother. Forever after, she yearned to be a dragon once more. While she tries to restore her dragonhood, she learns the horrific backstory of her father and his evil doings, which led to a curse being put upon her family.

This was a darker, more mature addition to the Unicorn Chronicles. My favorite of the short stories.
