This is the sequel to the science fiction novel, Technically Not Dead. If possible, the stakes are even higher than they were. Innocents are threatened with fates worse than death and our crew, Thea, Rex, Ouen, and Amara, have to figure out where they fit into the grand and terrifying schemes that move in the shadows.

-----

After his meeting in the libraries of Mercury, Ouen struggles to balance his feelings for Amara with the apparent reality that she chose blind devotion to a cult over her friends. After many months of searching and failing to find proof that Amara isn’t what she says, the team goes their separate ways. Ouen is left on his own, and he wonders what it means for his future, as well as the future of the solar system.

Alton and Clara’s plans progress at an easy rate. Everything is lined up perfectly until a devastating betrayal sets them back years. They fight to recover what they’ve lost and set things right, but doubt begins to corrode the shiny exterior of their lives and reveal who they truly are.

Time, perspectives, and loyalties shift. Ouen, Rex, and Thea finally unveil information they chased for so long, only to find that what once seemed like the end of everything, is nothing more than a perilous beginning.

I was not expecting a cliff-hanger at the end of this book...and was given one of the biggest cliff-hangers ever!

This book has all of the action, suspense, betrayal, and fighting that you could ask for in a space novel. I will say that the violence was more graphic than what I was suspecting after reading the first one in the series and it did disturb me for a few seconds. Minus those few instances, I loved this book just as much, or even more than the first book!

Much deeper, darker, and more action-packed than the first book in this series, this book felt completely different in the best way. I was immediately thrust into the action and desperately need the next book!!

Sci-Fi is definitely not on my usual go to genre lists, but if I could find more books like Coded Humanity, I think it could definitely become one. I was absolutely riveted with the story from the very first page until the end. I remember that book 1 took me a bit to get into before I was hooked but that is definitely not the case with book 2. The real meat of the story begins right away and it’s impossible to put down. Ouen really solidifies himself as my favorite character in this one just based on his relationship with Raphaelle. I honestly could just read an entire book of those two just living life and having adventures and I would be more than happy. Amara… my heart breaks for her numerous times in this one, and I won’t clarify more than that for sake of no spoilers. I love Rex and Thea so much and I definitely hope to see more of them in book 3. While there are definitely topics in this book that I’m confused on the exact specifics of and I’m sure I couldn’t write a dissertation on them even if you paid me (here’s looking at you, nanites) for a moment in time you believe you can thanks to Leah’s descriptive and clear writing. I’m sure she could write a dissertation on all these wild topics and I would read all of them, her writing is that good.

One of the smartest things Jubilee does in this book (imo) is to give a sense of the passing of time. For some relationships to work, time must pass. I like the way the emotional anguish and straight up confusion the characters go through shapes them. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that the Ouen, Eric, Rafaelle scene was where it hit the hardest.

I still think some line edits and consistency in spelling and wording would help, but it's clear the author did a lot of research and thought out her depiction of future technology (and utilization of older tech). This type of story is really up my alley.

I definitely like this series! Looking forward to book 3

It was a fun ride. I really love books related to space, and I enjoy some planet-hopping in between. I found the story interesting and characters very compelling. It was somewhat slow in some places, but the pace picked up towards the end. I felt so heartbroken for Amara and Ouen since I absolutely hate misunderstandings. However, the ending made me feel better, and I am glad it got solved. I wish the story was longer, but I guess I will wait for the third book. I need to know the ending. Recommended for space and sci-fi lovers. 4.5 stars

This book was SO good. It was a perfect continuation for Technically Not Dead and it did not disappoint. The action was great, the villain was CREEPY, and the themes were amazing.

This book is fairly dark, so I would not recommend it for younger teens. It has some gruesome moments and both physical and psychological torture and manipulation. Use your own discretion when deciding whether or not to pick up this book.

The sheer entertaining element of this book is a 5 star read for me!! I had some pretty graphic scenes going on in my head while reading Coded Humanity. I was so invested in these characters that I began shaking at one point. I read dark academia and dark romance. That has never happened to me. That said, I am loving this ride! Can’t wait for book 3!!!

This one felt a little more confusing, but still a compelling read that I had a hard time putting down. I assume the confusion is mainly because it's apparently the second of three.

I'm pleased with the direction she's taking us, and I really want to see how it ends!
