While Sarasa continues working hard to master the fourth volume of the Complete Alchemy Works, she and her small gang of adventurers are called upon by the mayor’s daughter to investigate the cause of the hellflame grizzly attack that came from deep within the Gelba Rohha Foothills Forest. Soon after, Iris’s father appears, and he comes with shocking news. It looks like Iris is going to be forced into a political marriage unless she can find another way to help her debt-mired father. Quick to act, Sarasa and the gang head to the great forest to make some fast cash off materials from the fearsome monsters they found during their investigation...
Between boots and gloves, they’ve got the equipment for the job! And ice stones and ice arrows will be the perfect weapons for attacking their fiery foes!
Much like previous volumes, cute girls doing cute things but in writing as opposed to animation. I find it an entertaining read, a nice light-hearted story with chill (albeit simple) characters and problems that are relatively easily solved (involving volcanos and the unexpected debts of a friend's family). No outstanding world building, a simple if a bit silly crafting system and a fairly straightforward plot, but if you were expecting otherwise by volume 3, why are you reading it? All in all, an enjoyable read.
Some mfer told me that this story has a good romance subplot. So, here I am, having finished 2 books in the series and about to finish this, the third, wondering how I was misled so completely when, seemingly out of nowhere, Iris decides to propose to Sarasa. WHAT? Where is my romantic subplot?
I presume this “argument” between Sarasa and Iris will continue in the next novel, thus becoming the romantic subplot. I’m not going to judge the book harshly for not providing me sooner with something that wasn’t its MO from the beginning or anything, I just wanna say, what the hell, Matt? I thought you had sent me on a wild goose chase until I just happened to like the series enough to be 3 volumes in. It better be worth it.
