About the author

Jean E. Pendziwol is an award winning Canadian author of books for adults and children. Her children’s books include Governor General Literary Award and TD Canadian Children's Literature Award winner Skating Wild on an Inland Sea (Groundwood Books, ill. Todd Stewart), and the bestselling No Dragons for Tea: Fire Safety for Kids (and Dragons) (Kids Can Press), which continues to be used as a valuable resource for teaching fire safety. Her debut adult novel, The Lightkeeper’s Daughters was published by HarperCollins and is available in 20 other countries and 16 languages around the world. This adorable poetry book is about a little girl and her dragon spend a sunny summer day at the beach. The story is told in a rhythmic pattern with end rhyming words. As the reader bounces along, the colorful, vibrant pictures will capture your attention. This book has water safety tips that are great to teach young kids. There is the Dragon’s Water Safety Rhyme in the back to help children learn water safety and also a safety checklist to go over with students. This story is fun, interesting, and beneficial to a young reader, which is why I chose this book as one, “I really liked” in my Picture Book Soak.

As with the other books by this author, this is a wonderful book for teaching children about life lessons. This book is about water safety -- a perfect book to read before going to the pool or the beach.
